WELCOME TO THE 2015 WINTER EDITION OF PACE! I hope you have all had an enjoyable 2015 so far and are managing to keep warm as the weather gets colder! In this edition of PACE, we hear from ACPE graduates Paul Collins and Chris Barton, both who have great insights to share regarding their time at ACPE, and
how it has shaped their careers. We also share some exciting details about the new Brightly platform, an online forum for current students and alumni alike, and some news on current online learning opportunities at ACPE.

ACPE GRADUATE GIVES OTHER GRADUATES A CHANCE TO KICK START THEIR CAREER IN FITNESS Written by Paul Collins, ACPE Graduate 1996, Bachelor of Physical Education As a former ACPE graduate, maintaining a connection with the place that kickstarted my career has had many benefits, from long-term friendships to providing opportunities for new graduates with a potential career pathway. After returning from the USA where I was helping prepare former NRL star Jarryd Hayne for his NFL Pro-trial in front of NFL scouts from across the USA, I joined the team at Snap Fitness, a 24-hour gym franchise, as Fitness Director, looking after nine gyms across Sydney, with 3 more expected to open in 2015. Working alongside a likeminded team of innovators in small business makes you realise the importance of a good network. Having completed a Bachelor of Physical Education degree at ACPE I was fully aware of what ACPE had to
offer through its networks, having the opportunity to be mentored at The Kings School by a former ACPE graduate and the Head of the PE Department Rob Rowland-Smith, who is the pinnacle of fitness in Australia and has inspired me over the years to author more than 25 fitness books world-wide as part of The Body Coach Book series (www.thebodycoach.com) and complete Strength & Conditioning for Rugby League. I’ll never forget the daily training and running sand hills at Palm Beach, being inspired by Rob to make it happen. Now it’s time for me to give back. IN BRIEF A WORD FROM ACPE GRADUATE CHRIS BARTON To say that I am proud to be an ACPE graduate is an understatement. As I am closely approaching 19 years since my graduation in 1996, it is only now dawning on me what an important part of my life the time I spent at ACPE was and how proud I am to say that I am an ACPE graduate. Besides leaving ACPE with a valuable teaching degree that enabled me to travel the world and teach in different continents for a period of two years, on reflection what I really gained from my time at ACPE was far more valuable and has lead me to a fulfilling business career. • I gained valuable interpersonal and communication skills that have been extremely helpful in all facets of life, from running my companies all the way through to learning skills that help me raise my own kids today. • The confidence to public speak. I left High School a shy teenager and ACPE gave me the skills to be comfortable to get up in front of any group and speak with passion about topics that are important to me. • The skills set to understand my strengths and weakness and use this knowledge to make key critical life decisions. • A network of strong contacts and connections that has assisted me to have a fulfilling career running my own
businesses including Rewards.Here in which I currently work with ACPE today in providing a unique staff rewards website for ACPE employees www.rewardshere.com.au • And to top it all off, I was lucky enough to meet my wonderful wife at ACPE who I am proud to say was the Dux of her graduating year! I would encourage all alumni to get involved in giving back to ACPE and taking the time to reflect on what ACPE gave to you, you may just be surprised when you scratch under the surface the real value. Let’s embrace our great alumni network, assist each other, be proud of what we have and continue to give back. I look forward to connecting with you soon.

ONLINE COURSES NOW AVAILABLE AT ACPE ACPE is now offering the following courses online: Bachelor of Sports Business; Bachelor of Sports Coaching and Administration and the Graduate Diploma in Sports Administration. ACPE is the first college in Study Group worldwide to successfully implement automatic scheduled recording. Eventually, all lectures will be recorded and available on Studysmart. Another cutting edge strategy has been to bring the online student right into the gym. Students studying the unit Strength and Conditioning online instructed their `client’ from their computer miles away from the gym at Olympic Park. Our teaching team is thrilled because we ourselves really doubted whether we could teach movement based subject in the online setting. Thanks to a renewed commitment to learning technologies and instructional design, we were happy to be proved wrong! Ultimately our goal is to extend the physical classroom into the virtual space so that online students feel like they are really there; and not missing out on anything that might spontaneously happen in the physical classroom.
