WELCOME TO THE 2015 SPRING EDITION OF PACE! We are very excited to announce that ACPE is building a new campus! And as we get ready to pack up and relocate we will be commemorating the ACPE campus of fifteen years, 8 Figtree Drive.
In this edition we also have updates from 4 of our graduates, a new career webinar series to announce and we are very excited to share the achievements of the 93 students who have recently
returned from a very successful Australian University Games. Jacqueline Simmonds Associate Dean, Students and Services ACPE
A SNAZZY NEW CAMPUS After an incredible 15 years at 8 Figtree Drive, ACPE is moving around the corner to Parkview Dr, just near GG’s café. All staff offices, library, admin, classrooms, science labs, hall, gym, dance studios and common areas will be in the same building, the whole 4 storeys of it. It’s going to be amazing! We are posting updates of the state-ofthe-art campus on the ACPE Facebook page and there will be walking tours soon so be sure to follow us on Facebook for the latest news.
In the next issue of PACE we will feature 8 Figtree Drive and the 15 years it has served as the ACPE campus. The walls of the building have seen many classes taught and lessons learned; the walls themselves have been arranged and rearranged to accommodate the changing needs of the College. Remember when the floor of the gym was carpet, or when the library was still at #8 and life before the deck?
ACPE NEW CAMPUS We’d like you to send your memories of ACPE at 8 Figtree Drive – text and/or photos – to Liz Cardenas: lcardenas@acpe.edu.au
AUSTRALIAN UNIVERSITY GAMES The 2015 AUGs were recently held on the Gold Coast and we’re proud as punch to report the ACPE Pirates had a very successful week. ALUMNI NEWSLETTER / SPRING 2015
IN BRIEF ALUMNI PROFILES NORMAN FULLARD Bachelor of Sports Coaching and Administration, graduated 2014
with the Townsville Crocodiles in the National Basketball League (NBL). This was a tremendous opportunity for me and one that I have worked extremely hard for. Coaching in the pro’s is an enormous challenge however with the season close by I am eager and excited to start.
Throughout my degree I took every opportunity to facilitate active schools programs, gross motor development programs and sports specific strength and conditioning programs. I am currently the Fitness Operations Manager for Norths Fitness in North Sydney. I am responsible for a list of activities, from managing a team, generating & implementing sales initiatives, managing WH&S, training and assisting members and even down to general housekeeping of the facility. My degree facilitated the knowledge I needed to be successful in the role of operation manager and gave me the ability to apply that knowledge successfully. Education never ends, it only starts.
NORMAN FULLARD SAMUEL GRUGGEN Bachelor of Education (Physical and Health Education), graduated 2012 After completing my teaching degree I chose to continue to work full-time for Basketball NSW where my role was to develop junior athletes into becoming elite players to represent their state or country. Whilst working at Basketball NSW, I was also the head coach at Bankstown Bruins and several NSW State teams and attended numerous Australian Development Camps as a network coach. Early this year I accepted the role as Assistant Coach
SAMUEL GRUGGEN HANNAH PIGRAM Bachelor of Sports Business, graduated 2012 I was fortunate enough to land an excellent work experience opportunity in my final year at ACPE. This set me up for a casual then a full time job with the Australian Rugby Union. Working hard at this prospect helped me gain important knowledge about the sports industry and how essential it is to make the most of every chance that you are given. This then led to my current job working as a senior sales consultant/tour leader for a sports travel company. I travel around Australia and the world with packages and tours that our company has organised for our passengers to see sporting events and have the added bonus of sightseeing. I have travelled to events such as the Bledisloe Cup, Hong Kong 7’s, Lions Tour and Brazil FIFA World Cup.
The next journey for me is the Rugby World Cup and a year working as a tour leader in the UK and Europe. STEPHANIE GARCIA Bachelor of Dance Education, graduated 2015 After graduating from ACPE I applied for the Royal Academy of Dance’s Master of Arts in Education (Dance Teaching). The course is unique as it allows you to study subjects that you are truly passionate in exploring. As a postgraduate I now major in dance pedagogy, assessment issues in dance practice and leading learning. I visited the headquarters in August for my induction week. There I met my cohort of 12 educators from around the world and was introduced to my lecturers and course conveners. I chose to study at the RAD as it allows me to study via correspondence whilst working as a Dance and PDHPE teacher in NSW schools. Studying at ACPE has prepared me well for my postgraduate studies and I would like to thank my lecturers and mentors for their constant support whilst at the college.
