hen I look back over the past 11 years of TAOWOP, I celebrate each challenge and respect the lessons learned. I recall the launch of TAEWOP 11 years ago in downtown Atlanta, there was a balloon launch! I remember so vividly as the balloons went into the air, we believed this publication would reach unsurpassable heights. And we have! ogether we launched a print publication which has since reached an international digital presence with the potential of millions of readers and subscribers. TAOWOP’s presence is found on ISSUU, Magcloud, and Martview digital magazine portals. TAOWOP is also listed in the National Directory of Magazines Oxford Communications, New York, New YorkThe Acts of Women of Power-480166910. Thank you for walking in power with us and shedding light on the “acts” or “actions of women all across the globe!

Called into ministry in 2010 as a traveling Evangelist, God planted a Ministerial Women’s Ministry seed and it was birthed shortly thereafter. Evangelist laughed It was one of the fastest births she had ever experienced. Recalling the conservation, she had with the Lord when He said it was not going to be an easy task, Evangelist says her response was, Lord I don’t even like women, why would you ask this of me? The response wasn’t what she wanted to hear because He said, The very thing you don’t like you will labor with until you learn to love it. So The Women of Word Ministries was birthed, and born in September of 2010. Many challenges came with the call, it started off really well though, it seemed all the women there were on one accord, until God began using some and not others. This is one of the biggest problems I find next to having a committed team of women working with you and your vision. TAOWOP- What is the one of the greatest misconception about ministering?
TAOWOP- Have you experienced challenges balancing life vs ministry?
A misconception in ministry is thinking everybody will be for you. No this is not true everybody will not like you nor will they agree with you it’s all part of God’s plan of separating the sheep from the goat. Another misconception in ministry is thinking you will be compensated for your labor. Sometimes in order to fulfill the assignment you may have to empty your finances to get the job done and trust me God replenishes!
Spiritual impartation and being spiritually pregnant is a privilege and an honor. Just like anything in life, once it’s here you make adjustments. We multitask and learn balance quickly.
TAOWOP- As a multi-faceted woman in ministry; what is one of your greatest accomplishments? In the 6 years of doing ministry, my greatest accomplishment in ministry is birthing the ministries that God placed into my spirit,15 Reasons to Hope, Women of Word Ministries, S.H.E.R.O. Magazine, and now H.E.R.O MAGAZINE. The seeds, birthing, and the manifestation of ministries were well worth the sacrifice. It’s a feeling of IT IS FINISHED! in a sense yet it is only the beginning.
TAOWOP- As a single woman in ministry, what are “some” of your experiences? Due to my calling and focus on assignments I honor my purpose so I don’t feed into my singleness negatively, my desire is to please God. I do know that if I seek the kingdom of God first, Boaz is just around the corner. TAOWOP- What would you share with an incoming “Lady Leader”to assist them in their journey? If God has called you into a ministerial relationship with him, please don’t take it lightly God wants to be intimate with you. He shows how much He loves through your birthing process, remember it’s not just your baby, ITS HIS!

By Pastor Valari Knight A few short years ago I wouldn’t have imagined being this blessed in this season of my life. As I enter my 64th year of life, the winter of life, society says I should be planning for retirement and here I am in the season of ReFirement. Yes ReFirement! This year has me rejuvenated and excited concerning opportunities and possibilities of the future. I am filled with hope and trusting God for the greater things he has promised. Not only am I on FIRE for what God has blessing me with, I am on FIRE for the things of God yet to come. Several years ago I was in a very dry and desolate place. I was not as active on the preaching circuits, my mother was getting quite ill and my marriage was failing. I literally found myself withering. My energy was draining and I was running on empty. With a metabolism slowed by a thyroid condition, I had no drive or ambition. Don’t misunderstand me however, for as a pastor and first lady I still somehow functioned well in the church. I led with confidence and demonstrated good
leade ship. I mustered up strength every day to conduct conferences and smiles to the outside world, but on the inside, I was dying. With my mother weakening from previous strokes and dementia her imminent death brought an inability to push myself. I found it difficult to push through for the church. After preaching a women’s conference I shared my story with a dear ministry friend who later taught me that before I consider the people, I must first put myself together. In his book, Winning Ways for Wise Women, Chime Gogo speaks of a woman’s outward appearance in Package Yourself Right”, I took this to mean inwardly as well. In my opinion it is impossible to carry on a facade or image for appearance sake only to return to brokenness within. When I return to God, not only does he see what is on the outside, but he considers the who person, namely, the heart. Taking a good account of myself, I knew I was broken and needed the Lord to bring restoration and wholeness.

The Acts of Women of Power went into the heart of one of God’s Anointed Psalmists and Gospel Artists, Minister Pat Grigsby ... TAOWOP- As an instrument of ministry, how have you viewed the various changes in gospel music? Everything encounters change and gospel music is not an exception. It is imperative that though the method in which gospel music is expressed will change, that the message remains biblically sound. Unfortunately, some aspects of gospel music lack scriptural accuracy, but the musical/instrumentation and performance attracts listeners from all walks of life. Those of us with the message’s conviction in our heart must keep first things first, the message in the music.
TAOWOP-What is one of the greatest misconceptions about ministering vocally? One of the greatest misconceptions about ministering vocally is relying on your gift or vocal ability/skill to perform rather than the anointing to minister. One can be an anointed singer or musician yet not always minister with an anointing. I encourage quality time in prayer, worship, study of God’s word along with maintaining your vocal ability.
TAOWOP-Have you experienced challenges as a female and how did you conquer them? There have been challenges being a woman in ministry however, keeping focus on what God has called and anointed me to do helps me maintain a positive perspective. Not being competitive or try to adapt to any particular style or personality but to be who I am in God. I am thankful to be surrounded by other women in ministry who serve as mentors and examples because they have gone where I aspire to go. I also pray for wisdom and insight on how to strategically approach every situation and allow the Spirit to lead and guide me.
TAOWOP-What is your view on contemporary versus traditional music? Contemporary music has taken gospel music to another level of receptivity in that it reaches a broader audience. However, traditional music along with hymns, anthems and spirituals tend to carry an undeniable depth which may be attributed to the experience by which the songs were written.
TAOWOP-What would you share with an incoming ministry artist to assist them in their journey? I would encourage incoming anyone coming into music ministry to establish and maintain a personal relationship with God. Rather than always desiring something from God’s hand, stay in His face and at His feet in worship. Allow God to prepare you before you go on display, don’t despise the process. Pat Grigsby, is a licensed minister, speaker, psalmist, and worship leader. Native Georgian with a Bachelor’s in Business (music minor). She instituted Atlanta’s first Praise & Worship Team Ministry in an African American church and has served in various capacities of leadership. Pat performed in the Tyler Perry movie “Madea’s Witness Protection” as well as with the Atlanta Super Choir in Switzerland (Montreux Jazz Festival) and in Spain (Olympics –Barcelona). 2015 Barack Obama President’s Volunteer Service Award recipient. USING THE WHOLE BOX OF CRAYONS Minister Elaine Montford WOP Central Florida Regional Director
Recently, I saw a picture posted on my Facebook page of a vibrantly colored field of wildflowers; and the caption read, Life is about using the whole box of crayons. It reminded me of an adult coloring book I had recently purchased. I’ve only taken the time to color a couple of pages, but this is what I’ve learned: If you outline the image with a darker shade, it changes the dimensional perception; and if you use black/brown, it gives the lighter colored image even greater depth. But if you really want the lighter, brighter, colors to pop... use a completely black background. Why am I telling you this? Because often in Life, we only want the bright sunny situations, or the pretty pastel moments,
on our life canvas... In fact, if we could, some of us would remove the darker, gloomy colors from our crayon box altogether! This is because we often don’t understand or accept their value in our life painting. When we recognize the value of darker outlines, or even black backgrounds, we can appreciate the finished picture. In order for our life to have depth, in order for our testimony to make an impact...there has to be an occasional dark moment; there has to be varying hues of all the colors. It’s really all about contrast and balance. Since God is the Artist, give Him full control of your crayons, and watch the masterpiece He creates!

W ere you able to attend the conference
this year? My God, my God, what a time was had by all! This conference was everything and more!! Every speaker, every song, every dance, every spoken word was to the glory of God. We heard testimonies of God moving in the lives of the people, we witnessed mighty moves of God in song and dance and every word that came forth touched lives in a phenomenal way! It was beyond amazing to see the people blessed and pouring out to God. Our exhibitors brought forth products that blessed each and every one of us from books to massages. Did you get your picture taken on the “red carpet”? Our photographer Melissa's Memories was amazing and the way she encouraged each one of us in our poses made the picture taking process awesome. We all looked great! Body by U Fitness held court in the exercise room and we fueled our temples for 2 days in preparation of the move to come. We brought forth a triple whammy this year, as we stretched out with Elder Desiree' Harris- Bonner, dancercised with me Minister Sher Harris and was educated by Health Coach Lorrie Bush on proper eating. There was much activity all weekend long, way too much to try and list them all. But what you must do is start planning now s o you will be with us for next year’s conference. It is well worth the time and effort to be there as you will be ministered to and your
presence will minister to someone else. As women of God we are our sister’s keeper and it is worth every effort to be where God is and become a vessel to touch someone else’s life. Saturday morning of the conference, the praise team ministered and the spirit of God moved over the crowd and found us jumping and shouting, praising and bowing down! God blessed us all during this weekend and thanking him was in the hearts of everyone. We danced and shouted and cried and praised. Thru the Fire dance troupe blessed the people in such an amazing way! All hearts and minds were lifted and transformed and the feel of the Holy Spirit in that room sent chills up and down your spine. No where are you able to come together with the saints of God and be ministered to, the way we were at Making the Impossible Possible conference. Pastor BJ and her awesome ministry team put together one phenomenal weekend that truly blessed the hearts of the people. Thank you Pastor, for inviting Body by U Fitness to minister again this year. We all n e e d a vacation after this conference to bring ourselves back down to earth. We are already preparing our minds and hearts to participate next year for Lilac and Lavender! Body by U Fitness will be there and it is our prayer that you will too! Don’t miss this opportunity to minister and be ministered to in this great gathering of the Saints of God.

In the last edition we began to dis-
cuss silent addictions. Oftentimes when we think of addictions, we think of an addictive behavior to a substance...namely alcohol and/ or drugs, however there are some addictive behaviors contributed to our personalities and experiences. In this edition we will discuss the addictive behavior of Low Self Esteem. Our self esteem is how we regard ourselves. The respect that we have for ourselves as well as the respect we expect from others towards ourselves. This can be a high regard or one that is very low. How we see ourselves can be based on many factors, such as relationships with our parents, siblings, teachers, life experiences or a flaw in appearance .
When we develop a low self esteem it negatively affects all of our relationships in and outside of the home. We are unable to associate well with others because we are always concerned with how they see us. The word of God tells us in Psalms 139:14 “I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made; marvelous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right and well.”The word also tells me I am made in the image of God. How good is that! I have no right to think I am subservient to anyone when I am fearfully and wonderfully made in His image. The cure to this silent addiction is to SEE YOURSELF AS GOD SEES YOU – You are one of a kind – UNIQUE!
Founder of Walk N Your Talk Ministries her mission is to share the scriptures and some experiences to move others to walk in OBEDIENCE to God’s word regardless of the cost. Evangelist Lesia resides in Augusta, Georgia with her husband Earle R Beale. 20 l WOP MAGAZINE SUMMER 2016 EDITTION
Recently TAOWOP caught up with Stephanie D. Sanders a soulful singer/ songwriter that soothes and uplifts the spirit. She desires to motivate others and represent Christ in all she does. She says “I’m Ready” in her song YES,SHE IS definitely in her lane as a Singer, Actressand Voice Artist
TAOWOP-Stephanie, what in your life prompted you to become the artist you are today?
-Finances can be a challenge at times as the average Independent Artist has to fund everything pretty much on their own.
To be honest I feel like it's something that has always been a part of me. I always loved music, dance and entertainment. It took time for me to grab hold of the vision and purpose that God had for my life. But when I did I made sure to do my part to make it. Once I committed to the artistry I never looked back. TAOWOP- Where there any challenges or was everything smooth sailing?
TAOWOP- What goals and expectations have you set for your self?
Life itself was a major challenge for me as things happened they took me in different directions and seemed to have prolonged my destiny until I took control back. -At other times support from others has been a challenge but at some point you have to decide to "Keep Steppin" even if you have to walk alone.
I would like to: -Win an Oscar for acting and one or more of my songs in a major motion picture film -Be an award winning Singer/Songwriter, Actress, TV Host, Creator/Producer, Author & Speaker -Provide yearly Scholarships to minority students going to college -Deliver 3 cds a year in 3 different genres of interest -Travel the world TAOWOP- What would you share with upcoming artists on remaining true to themselves? -Pray to God and ask him to reveal to you your talents and how he would have you to use them. -Take steps in that direction and allow him to guide you and even re-direct you at times. -Remember that you can’t live your life for someone else. You have got to fulfill your destiny whether you have support or not. The support will come. -Do what’s in your heart to do and be the best you. -Make sure to keep God first in all you do.

Hello my name is Justine Black, but you
can call me Justine. I want to drop some wisdom to my single sister’s on today. First I want to say that God is good all the time, yes all the time he is good. Well I would have been a married woman today four months into my marriage, but to God be the Glory he had other plans and so he instructed me to call my wedding off. You may be saying to yourself why in the world would you do that? What happened? What did he do? Why did God tell you to do something like that? For those women who do not understand when God tells you to do something he means just that. There was some things that came up on his end, that hurt me to the core being as this was my first time ever getting married, but oh well I can look back and say thank you God for saving me. Single ladies, God knows your heart and he also knows your desires. I am reminded over in the Book of Jeremiah 29:11 coming from the KJV “For I know the thoughts that I think towards you, saith the Lord, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you an expected end.” Yes Ladies God knows the plans that he has for your life. God also knows that you have a strong desire to be married, but don’t let a bad desire become your downfall. You maybe saying what do you mean? Well sometimes God shows things to us not to harm us, but to save our lives because he
cares so much for his daughters, this is what he did with me, he saved my life, it was not until later on when I talked with another sister in the Lord that I learned that it was not in God’s will to marry that man and that God himself told me that there was another, which means that God had his best for my life. While in my waiting on the Lord I understand that God wants the best for me and the plans he has for me are his best for me. I want to let you know that in your waiting time, allow God to work on you some more, if you still need to be cleaned up, then let him do just that, if you are still dealing with childhood hurt or issues from the past of being hurt or misused, let God heal you, You don’t want to carry a lot of Brown Paper Bags into a relationship nor into a marriage. This is what you can do in the meantime in your waiting ,pray, seek the face of the Lord, and study his word. You can even pray for the one whom God has for you this will teach you how to cover him; because if God blesses you with a man in a leadership position, you’ve got to know how to cover him in prayer and hold him up. There are so many things that you can do as a single women in waiting. I am not saying that I am perfect because I did feel at one point in waiting on God to bless me with a husband. I had premarital sex and became pregnant. I had a miscarriage this happened to me approximately 10 years ago back in 2006. But I got a hold of myself and I learned how to live holy before God. Was I tempted yes I was. But I thank God for a changed mindset. By Dawnya F. Lindsey “While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.” - Genesis 8:22
What are you waiting for? Rise up and take authority of your finances. Today. You are the only one that can do it and God is the only one that can help you implement that decision. The principles are the same in season and out of season. They don’t change from day to night or night to day. Overnight wealth still requires that you sow seed, fertilize it and reap the
harvest. Did you know that wealth is the harvest of seedtime? Get it? So starting right now, ask God to help you and start claiming your wealthy place. Create that budget and declare that you will not go into any more debt. If you’re not a tither, start tithing. Then watch God change your financial arena. Don’t forget to give Him the praise!

By Elder Yolanda Townsend Women have been vital leaders in ministry throughout time. We can read the testimonies of powerful women recorded in the Bible from Genesis to Revelations. Although we can see the clear distinction between the men and women, their contributions were still noticed and recognized. I have noticed the change, although not a huge setback, but rather one that has been around for some time. As women, we tend to view the growth of another sister’s success as something of jealously and or envy. When we take on these two characteristics then we begin to see the other as an opposing threat versus one of accomplishments. Jealously is a very powerful weapon that Christians should never have within us. Is it easy to fall prey to? Indeed if one does not walk, talk, and live His word. It is a powerful force that can destroy the best of friends, relationships, sisterhoods, family, and sisterly bonds. I have found that if we remember to remind ourselves of the Lord’s word through scriptures. 1 Peter 2:9 says that we are a chosen people meaning if Christ has chosen to die for each of us, then we all are considered to be part of His royal priesthood. If we carry this scripture within our hearts not only will we be free from this spirit
called jealously, but we can be an instrument to help bring someone else out of darkness into His marvelous light. I find one of the greatest misconceptions about women in ministry is the fact that we cannot work together in a spirit of unity. I have experienced this as a challenge and conquered this by having a servant’s heart. When we think on 1 Corinthians 15:58 we will always remain steadfast; knowing that your labor is not in vain. As a wife, mother, and ministry leader I am still learning to balance it all. I find it works best for me to have a daily calendar reminder of appointments, which brings structure within the home, and church. When structure and order is in place; ministry, both church and home, can flow effectively. I often share what I call life lessons with others to encourage them that would assist them on their journey in the kingdom. Always remember to keep your eyes focused on the call He has chosen you for. Knowing that we are all equally important to the Lord, and we each, as women leaders, bring an uniqueness to the body of Christ it will continue to be a beacon of light for those who are lost.

Mother Gerald C. Baker
WOP General Member, GA We often say that we are counting blessings, but that is sooo hard to do! GOD blesses us in so many ways!I look back over my life as I remember it, I have been blessed and showered with love. As a little girl, I was reared by my grandmother and mother in a small town in Florida, later we moved to the capitol city where I finished high school. I went north with my mother and attended nursing school, I also married to my high school classmate. There have been so many wonderful blessings and loving memories in my life, and to balance that, there have been some down times also. But through it all, I have learned to try
to keep GOD's testimonies, and to seek Him with my whole heart, I tell you, there's nothing like serving our LORD, JESUS! In a few months, I will have lived to be eighty years old! I am grateful. Yes, I'm aware of my blessings, and no, I can't count them all! "O give thanks unto the LORD; for He is good: because His mercy endures forever." Psalm 118:1 Dr. BJ Relefourd and the Acts of Women of Power staff wish Mother Gerald Baker birthday blessings! Mother Gerald Baker is in her 7th year as a contributor to TAOWOP Magazine! We love You!
