The pH balance that determines the degree of acidity or alkalinity in your body is a work of “healthy” art. It’s part of homeostasis, the ongoing state of balance among all your body systems to maintain optimal wellness.

Normally, your blood is slightly alkaline, measuring within a pH range of 7.35 to 7.451. Meanwhile, the gastric acids in your stomach are necessarily acidic with a pH range of 1.5 to 3.5, required to digest food and act as a line of defence against harmful bacteria and viruses2 . activation. Controlling pH inside and outside of cells is crucial for homeostasis3. Furthermore, in diseases such as arthritis, cancer, neuro-inflammation and stroke, an elevated level of acidity is found outside the cells of affected tissues4 .
