Ryan Wholegrain says : “ I have a Masters Degree in Photography and have worked for the BBC and ITV. Nobody has yet discovered that I’m actually a monkey.” - That’s hilarious Ryan ! He’s such a joker, has a great sense of humour and is always messing about. Wish he‘d stop throwing excrement, but he’s a great picture takerer.
Prof Egbert Rogers says : “ TV has always been my life. My whole, entire life. And BBTV provides the company that i crave so very much you’d have to be a clown not to enjoy it , and I’m no clown buster! ” - Urgh , this guy. I avoid him when he’s in the office, if I’m completely honest. He smells like feet...

Having had so much fun dealing with the stress and anxiety of compiling the recent Official Programme for The Norwich A.I.R fest 2021, we decided to get the whole gang back together (along with some curious new additions) and do it ALL again- in celebration of Lockdown easing, and The A.I.R Events returning once again to fill the EA’s many various orifices with sweet, sweet music. Now, according to Wikipedia, which is apparently a website available on this dastardly ‘Interweb’ thing, the very definition of a ‘ Gig ‘ is thusly described : ‘ an organized event, typically lasting several hours, featuring performances by at least one musician, singer or group - and sometimes more. ‘ Well The A.I.R Events have taken that old adage and wrung it’s flaming neck, and stuffed it vigorously ready for roasting for Xmas dinner! Indeed, there is an incredible array of artistry, talent and acts planned for the rest of 2021, covering a wide range of genre’s. They say that Norwich is The City Of Stories , but stories can be boring, and reading is hard work ... so we’ve found that putting those stories to music and creating a pulsating soundtrack for them makes them much better. Be Excellent To Each Other !!

SORCERESS OF SIN - LIVE @ THE TALK WEDNESDAY 22ND DECEMBER
#1 Mirrored Revenge
AFTER HAVING BURST onto the U.K metal Scene in 2020 with the release of their powerful debut album ‘Mirrored Revenge‘ the unique EA-based MSP-metal group SORCERESS OF SIN would have been forgiven for sitting back and enjoying the plaudits that came rolling their way.
But barely one year later, and already knuckles-deep into their 3rd album, it has become apparent to onlookers that such idleness is not in their band DNA! The debut record acted as the perfect showcase for their particular brand of unique & ethereal melodic symphonic-power metal, and from it’s release immediately heralded a welcome new sound for U.K metal fans to devour. Immediately, it began to receive glowing praise from the music press, as well as an array of radio shows and independent online music review sites. This was followed up within a matter of what seemed like minutes by their second long-player , CONSTANTINE, and the sheer power and quality of

But although that album may have opened the door for them, the reviews that the band have received for their performances have been unashamedly positive, with praise coming from every direction : for their music and the strength of their songwriting, to their individual skill & prowess on their respective instruments, and to their inclusive and immersive stage presence and beyond. SORCERESS OF SIN were formed somewhere between Cambridge and Suffolk, in the wilds of East Anglia, by Lisa & Paul Skinner and Constantine Kanakis, with Tom MacLean, John Turner & Daniel Mackender joining soon after and they swiftly formed a solid understanding of each other’s styles and influences - culminating in an intensive rehearsal period leading up to their immense BLOODSTOCK performance. ‘Sorceress of Sin’ came from the lyrics of one of the first tracks that they wrote together as a unit and the imagery and concept of the song title was so vivid that they all agreed that it would make the perfect band name. The debut album was centred around the themes derived from the band’s name and was intended to capture the frustration, fragility and the sense of victory through perseverance that they endured during their inception. They have described themselves as “...a beer swigging and vodka shots kind of tribe!” but with a live show that is equally raw yet extremely polished, whilst also managing to be both energetic and deeply complex in scale, their rise continues unabated. Equally, we don’t know if it is close or not, but it’s flipping loud and fast, so who doesn’t like a bit of danger when it’s served with a side order of Kick Ass? Not us, that’s who! I caught these guys playing at The Duke, Ipswich in October 2021 and they were seriously good - so of course we snapped them up to appear for The A.I.R Events- you’ll be able to catch them smashing the set on the 29th December Early New Years Party show at The Torque.
Although MICK GRANT is no stranger to The A.I.R Events shows, having been to many of them to watch & support... ... all the other acts involved, this will be his first appearance as a performer. He recently organised an all-dayer at The Brickmakers and raised money for Mental Health charities, while also playing a storming set on the day himself. By Theresa Green Photographs by Ryan Wholegrain It’s been approx 6 weeks since the festivities of The Norwich A.I.R Fest and much has happened in that time - firstly the festivities of Heartfest 2021 and then the beginning of a brand new live music night in Norwich - namely, TORQUE @The Talk. Of course this means an entirely new plethora of acts and performers to introduce to EA audiences - alongside some familiar faces. But who... and why? Let’s find out, shall we... ?
Firstly the second thing you notice is that all these groups have names with either 1 or 2 words in them, which is already extremely cool AF. But secondly the first thing you notice is the diversity of styles, gender and football team affiliation that there is on the line-ups of future shows. Not only is this a bold move on the part of the organisers, bravely rejecting the desire of the audience to relive the same old musical experiences over & over, again & again, but it also indicates that the EA music scene is still very much at the forefront of everything good in music as a whole- which is nice. All of the following acts will be appearing at BOOMBOX or TORQUE! over the next two months, both before Christmas AND after it as impossible as such a point in the future seems. So, if you wanna know just a bit more about some of the brilliant music in the area then these ramblings are for you. But if you don’t want to know, then simply close your eyes and read on EXPLOITS are at the top of this list because there are so many of them in the band that I’m trying to avoid getting into a gang fight with them over it! There are a good 15 of them onstage at any one time - I’m being colourful with the truth, of course, but between the 5 of them they really do create a huge, and rather brilliant, wall-of-sound.

By Theresa Green Photographs by Ryan Wholegrain DREDGER are probably one of the few 2-piece rock outfits around who are capable of bringing the incredibly intense and loud presence to the stage that they do - in fact the latest Local Council guidance letters clocked a recent show at a decibel equivalent of 14 drunken Jumbo Jets splitting a £1,200 bill in a Mexican restaurant. But with bigger & better tunes! (it didn’t actually say THAT last part on the council letter, but how cool would that have been? Instead of the fine?) LINKED INSTINCTS are a big ol’ powerful bag of mixtures an’ all ! They’re a mix of styles & genres, as well as mixing powerful original tracks with an eclectic list of cover songs (which they hit note-for-note, it’s worth mentioning). They are a delightfully dark musical diversion for you to enjoy, whilst also being made up of a mixture of musicians from several well-known ‘local’ acts (see what I did there guys?). PINK LEMONADE are already so well known that they almost don’t even need any kind of introduction at all! ICARUS VISION have been around longer than those carrier bags in your kitchen cupboard / drawer They originally formed in 2001 to play a support slot for a 70’s supergroup reunion and, after emptying all the ...
...beer out of Graham Bonnet’s mini-fridge, they decided to try and drink other rock stars beers for a living.Some would contend that they failed spectacularly. I was just kidding about PINK LEMONADE, although having won (& been nominated for) so many awards in their short time together this brilliant 3-piece punk/pop/rock trio are one of the best known acts in the entire EA. Possibly even the Galaxy. And Essex-based MODERN MOTIVE are another band who have been kicking some serious ass on the live circuit since music came out of Lockdown! Originally based in The Blueberry Music House , and acting as a front for illicit laundering (vests, socks, nothing was off limits) they played host to many of the EA’s best known original acts for their early stage gigs. We’ve all been there, haven’t we? A nicely chilled social gathering where the beer is flowing, the good times are ‘rolling’, everyone is laughing while Uncle Kev is nailgunning small rodents to the floor, but then some f***ing hippy just whips out an acoustic guitar and shags the whole evening up. Well that’s where you would be utterly WRONG my peculiar friends! For it would seem as though, when it’s played by the right hands (or left if you are a demon-spawn), the acoustic experience CAN be ‘swag’...
There has been an absolute explosion in Acoustic Music since the 1960’s although luckily this was a metaphor and nobody was injured. One of the main reasons for this increase in popularity is it’s versatility as an instrument, as an occasional-table and/or even as a weapon when accosted by dystopian Tech-wielding gangs. And although times have moved on from when laddish louts such as Donovan and Paul Simon began to herald a newer, darker direction for the art form, the acoustic guitar has enjoyed many evolutions & innovations. Merle, with fresh talented newbies emerging from each new generation to move the sound forward. The A.I.R Events is proud to have hosted a range of these artists, and continues to do so with a feverish & fervent passion that has led to several restraining orders and at least one love-child (that we know of). By Theresa Green Photographs by Ryan Wholegrain ...RYAN REDWOOD first came to the attention of The A.I.R Events for his powerhouse performances as frontman of the Indie Rock group THE ONLY ROUTE, but after a brief hiatus from the music scene to focus on developing his IndieKid podcasts and YouTube videos he has now returned to the EA music scene as an equally-impressive solo act. With a mix of upbeat & catchy originals filled with wry social commentary and lashings of humour and contemporary cover tracks he has been keeping busy out of lockdown with constant gigging, alongside promoting the last 3 singles which are available on Spotify etc. SIMON TALL played for The A.I.R Events originally way back in late 2018 / early 2019 - first at the short-lived Chill-Out Sessions at The Wildman, and later at the original BOOMBOX sessions at The Blueberry. He has a back catalogue of recorded music as long as the average human arm, and with such an arsenal of music at his disposal his sets are always full of originality and surprises. You can find his music on the usual steaming / download sites, and of course also on Bandcamp. OLIVER ADAMS is another solo artiste who originally won praise for his performances with a band, before going on to bigger & better things on his own termsin his case, he was previously in the Folk / Rock outfit PHAT HEN. Oliver’s solo career has started more recently than the others in this list but...
... he has since been keeping rather busy playing venues across East Anglia - even turning up to play for BOOMBOX At The Brickies in October this year. GENT (aka Andy Martin) is another acoustic innovator who brings the fire and fury of Generation X to life in an entirely unique & original fashion; brimming full of energy onstage, seemingly physically wrestling the brutal yet delicate chords and notes from his trusty guitar. It is oft alleged that THE LAZY I have been around since before the dawn of time- becoming sentient in pre-acoustic guitar times. It has EVEN been rumoured that when the first adventurous sea creature flopped and gasped it’s slippery way onto dry-ish land, it was met by THE LAZY I and a rousing acappella version of ‘No Reason. But whatever the actual truth behind their length of time in existence, it IS fair to say that they have been one of the glues that have held this whole sh*tstorm together. They are an ever present fixture at A.I.R Events shows for two reason - 1) they are the Artistes In Residence from whence the name was derived, and B) They are one act always guaranteed to play a show! IAmTim is another talented artiste who has also played both The Wildman and The Blueberry for The A.I.R Events, and you will be able to catch his unique set of upbeat contemporary covers at TORQUE! @The Talk on the 1st of December. In summation - Acoustic Music is A-Okay!

... is a supremely talented British Rapper, based mainly in Norfolk, UK. He has been grinding within the music industry & paying his dues to the scene with sheer hard work for over 20 years. (Christopher Parsons , aka He had already been a prolific wordsmith but the added incentive of lockdown seemed to spur him on even more - as he went on to create at least several albums worth of new material during the disruption. His debut album ‘1st Cycle’ was released in 2020 and garnered him some brilliant reviews and a solid fanbase. Christopher Parsons , aka Rappalupus, has Asperger's and has always been interested in creating mental imagery with words & language, some of it foul. Eventually this boundless creativity hooked up with his life-long love for Hip Hop music, and he naturally drifted into producing beats & getting his lyrics recorded for posterity.

LEADBOOTS ARE A BLUESY, ROCKY, FOLKSY BAND FROM THE HEARTLANDS (They released the Blaze Studio-recorded e.p ‘Call Of The Void’ in 2020 , while their new material from 2021 is also available on Spotify etc.) OF So whether they’re exploring NORWICH... the darker reaches of the ... with a predilection for melding lush melodies with face-melting riffs to great effect. This all combines to create their unique signature sound, making every LEADBOOTS gig a rich and varied affair.
One of the factors that gives the band it’s individuality is the wide range of musical influences that each member brings to the table, and every song played resonates with the differing aspects of their respective personalities. They have 2 principal songwriters in the form of Kirk and Nathan, which means their music has the freedom to be more diverse in style and wider in scope.
Delta Blues or the edgier landscapes of alt-rock/Indie (or anywhere in between) there is always something unexpected around the corner for the listener who is beginning to feel too comfortable. The Leadboots genesis goes back to the day Nathan met Kirk whilst working in an industrial kitchen. “... he had a speaker blasting anything from 00’s punk-pop to 30’s Delta blues & I knew we’d get on. I think we talked about forming a band within the first or second week...” Nathan later recalled. Jack and Leon joined later on drums and bass respectively.

SCARLET - LIVE @ THE TALK WEDNESDAY 29TH DECEMBER
The ‘Sharted’ Meme : ALWAYS a backfire, if you’ll excuse the pun. The viewer does not want to be reminded of that one time they sullied their drawers VERDICT - Too gross & too close to home for most. 3/10 Don’t Sniff It : This is a bit of work that excels on many levels. Firstly it has some words and features a face, which seems to resonate well with FB drones. Secondly it has a mildly amusing premise which assumes the reader can’t tell the difference between the 2 subjects mentioned. Thirdly, it also works as a public health warning.
Charley Says : Leaning on the popularity of an iconic character is always one surefire way of gaining the readers attention - in this case it is parodying the classic public safety adverts, but instead implying that the cats erratic speech is perhaps due to some kind VERDICT - Funny & also very useful. 8/10 of illicit drug use. VERDICT - Very cerebral, but perhaps too Some People Aren’t... : This clever for a generic FB audience . 7/10 is another one that has been craftily designed to mimic the behaviour of both a safety poster and an inspirational slogan meme. In this case it fails spectacularly and serves to do neither. The suspension of disbelief needed to make this work is huge. VERDICT Very poor . 2/10
Middle Aged & Dangerous : This is a parody of the bog standard pic shared by stressy, caffeine-overdosed middle aged men VERDICT - Strongly satirical stuff . 8/10
That Time... : This is possibly one of the funniest things ever created by the hand of a human. Possibly dafter than the other ones. VERDICT Classic humour . 10/10

THE NIGHTMARE BEFORE CHRISTMAS
A fairly anonymous animation from 1999 with a budget of $32 million, and featuring the voice of the dude from Quantum Leap STORY :While the movie tends to struggle in parts, the story itself is actually told well.
The Tim Burton classic stop motion animation movie - but does it pass the muster? Let’s find out. STORY : Most viewers tend to agree that it is a fun & engaging tale, without resorting to heavy handed moralistic tropes to help tell it.
ANIMATION : The animation is definitely up to the standard of a cinematic feature, but it’s CGI is particularly clunky and dated. CHARACTERS : Rather like the film itself the characters are reasonably well-rounded but err on the bland side. MUSIC : Certainly not one of the movies strongest points, the songs are cliched and instantly forgettable. VERDICT : Certainly far from perfect and for adults this will be very unsatisfying, but for kids this would definitely be a fun watch. Worth watching together as a family for 85 minutes of chuckles, but it won’t blow your mind - VERDICT 7/10
ANIMATION : The animation is one of the films shining stars, an example of how beautiful the medium can be when it’s done well. CHARACTERS : Despite a rather bland love story underpinning the film, the characters are interesting and strong. MUSIC : Even decades after it’s release the songs remain fun & catchy, and possibly some of Danny Elfman’s finest work. VERDICT : Yes, this film remains one of Tim Burton’s best movies. It has probably the most complete and satisfying storyline, great characters and engaging music. It wins the HANCAM Seal Of Approval - VERDICT 10/10
