THE TENDENCY to raise questions is but a human nature. We are equipped with the faculty of intellect so that we can rightly respond with the situation before us. By all means, we ask questions in order to know. In the Senate, one of the many activities which demand much of their time is the Senate Inquiry. Here, a certain issue worthy of their attention or interest the national community is being placed in the limelight. With the appearance of the persons involved, our Senators, with their interrogative nature, throw series of questions relevant to the issue and even the irrelevant ones. With the many concerns confronting our country, Senate Inquiry becomes more salient to the public. It tends to catch a more massive attention in time. The issues associated with Vice President Jejomar Binay because of his questionable acquisition of wealth, the still sizzling and hot proceedings on Pork Barrel Scam and others pass through intensive Senate Inquiry that truly compel public interest. So, it can be inferred that Senate Inquiry is for the benefit of every Juan dela Cruz. But what we observe on the recent happenings in the Senate seems to be disgusting and frustrating. Many of the Senators, if not all, are halfway distorting the culture of wise and rational inquiry. They turn to be improperly inquisitive, asking questions that are below the belt and even uttering distasteful lines before the media. Now, this question arises, “Do Senate Inquiry benefits the people or the other way around?” To think that this question is yet to be answered is a bit insulting especially on the part of the Senators. We, the Filipino of this country are the living proofs who witness how the Senate degrades the value of good inquiry. They are given the privilege to occupy a seat that equates prestige, yet they fell short to meet their obligations not to mention their intentional neglect of duties. We are not trying to question the breadth of their intelligence because, obviously, they are all gifted with intellectual prowess. The point is, the observance of a morally upright inquiry should be practiced. Remember, they are in the Senate. More than a hundred million of Filipinos are all-eyed to them so they must act in the most rightful way. Whether Senate Inquiry benefits or not the Filipino people is not actually the riddle. More attention and remedy should be given to the already demoralized morale of some of our Senators. In our quest for transparency as we aim for the next level of progress, Senate Inquiry is a quite vital factor. More to this, we, the Filipinos, the priceless gems of our country should also dare to ask. We should not let the Senate do the whole thing. We are in a country of total democracy. We should voice out what is in our minds because only when we ask, will we know. We would like to hear from you. Like, follow, and send us your comments, suggestions, articles, and artworks through:

To inquire or to despise?
Negligence: A creeping societal concern CALL IT a sense of irresponsibility or carelessness. In one way or another, you are being negligent! Truly, the dynamic pace of modernization is continually taking its toll in our daily routines. We become dependent on the fast-aslightning speed ability that our gadgets can offer. Mindless as we turn, we are unconsciously depriving ourselves of the privilege to live normally. We waste time, act less and complain more instead of doing things the right way. Explicitly, we are learning to embrace the unwholesome culture of laziness. Take this for instance: Given the deadline and the mechanics, you are tasked by your subject professor to come up with a project proposal related to solid waste management and mitigation. Considering that you have ample time to accomplish your

task, you divert your attention to some nonsense stuffs. With your thirst for relaxation, you go online and open your Facebook, Twitter and Instagram accounts, hang-out with your buddies and kill your time by sleeping. Then, what’s next? You wake up one morning with the deadline slapping your face. You go crazy cramming, forcing yourself to finish your task with your heartbeats horse racing. What’s the result? Mediocre output, low grade and worst, failure.
This concern is also apparent in our organization, The Aklan Tradesman. As the Editor-in-Chief, I hold myself liable of all the matters relevant to our organization. Some of which are the clear distribution of responsibilities and setting of deadline for promptness. Much to my frustration, a few staffers fail to meet with the deadline. When asked for their reasons, they enumerate set of excuses that is mainly nonsensical and sometimes absurd! Negligence is just one of the many irrational attitudes that some of us frequently exhibit. This reality is reflected not only in school or in the student organizations but in the entire context of humanity. We may be unaware of the fact that this attitude is a causal element of the undesirable things SEE PAGE 8|NEGLIGENCE
When Peace Means Death Of mercy and compassion MERCY AND COMPASSION are two words which reigned the Philippine television, Filipino spirit and interreligious faith. With high hopes to ease the pain of the people who were affected by Super typhoon Yolanda, Pope Francis tried his best to convey the message of love and benevolence. The Pope stayed for five days in the Philippines for his Papal visit. We saw and heard the stories of people-from young to old,-about the effect of typhoon, violence against women and children, and unity of the family amongst other. The world has given so much attention on this event as manifested by more than 70 news representatives from all around the world set to cover the tour of His Holiness. The Filipino faith was tested through long hours of waiting beside the road just to see the motorcade, endless lines to be able

to enter the venues of His celebrated mass, and enduring harsh weather conditions just to be with the Pope. Sudden turn of events Two weeks after the Pope has left for Vatican, an unfortunate tragedy happened, of which the entire country was shocked and left with a big question – who should be blamed? The Mamasapano Tragedy, Mamasapano 44, The Fallen 44 are just some of the most common names of the incident. Forty-four Special Action Forces (SAF) agents were shot to death in an almost

one-day long encounter with the Muro-Islamic Liberation Front (MILF). As suggested by the hearings conducted and truths revealed in public, this undertaking was done in order to capture two of the most wanted terrorists in Asia, who were suspected being kept by the MILF. Although one was found dead, there is still no clarification if MILF really had the authority over that terrorist. As per data, the total casualties amounted to 67, 44 of which are SAF agents, 18 are from the MILF and five (5) are civilians. Peace agreement? During a process where the government is having a peace agreement with the militant group, this tragedy happened. So the question of the necessity of having this agreement is being stirred and tested. SEE PAGE 8|PEACE

Resilience: Lies and Laziness IT HAS BEEN over a year when our country experienced the rage of typhoon Yolanda that brought extreme havoc not only on properties but also on the emotional aspect of every Filipino who lives in the Visayas region and the Southern part of Luzon. It is given that all of us have our own nightmare experiences that we wish to never happen again. Aside from this, problems and clamors about unethical behaviors of our public officials regarding the distribution of aides still remain to be unsolved. Controversies and allegations continuously slap the government and set its reputation in great jeopardy. Typhoon Haiyan (Yolanda) is considered to be one of the most devastating typhoons in history. That is the main reason why we have received various help from both local and international respondents. Yet, I find it both

funny and annoying to hear stories about American high-quality canned goods given by these volunteers being replaced by locally sold canned sardines by our beloved officials. It just goes to show how insensitive and deceitful they are, and it is truly degrading on my part as a Filipino. No one was spared in the calamity. Both the rich and the poor were devastated, but it seemed that the recipients of the help were only selected, or worse, those recipients were more than capable of having their own, and those less fortunate people were
excluded. It was indeed very unfair. One year had passed and we saw the people of Tacloban being featured on the television, still staying in the tent cities which were only made as temporary shelters. Although the citations were speaking about joy and the rise of the people from the calamity, this scenario made me ask myself: Do these people really want to stand from this mournful experience? If so, why aren’t they making any move to get out of this? This came out to a realization that the people were not helping themselves. Waiting for promises became their habit, and throwing clamors of unsatisfaction follows thereafter, when in fact they already know what would happen. It is in nature of Filipino politician to make false promises and I wonder why some people are not used to it. As a result, they are SEE PAGE 8|RESILIENCE

Heartless and Cold: A Story That Has Never Been Told
ERUDITION ANN D. MANGILAYA
TO LOVE and to be loved is one of the most amazing things here in our world. You have this immeasurable feeling of excitement, happiness and contentment. In short, you feel so complete! I was once a true-blue lover. Believed in fairytales and happy endings. I wanted to be with my partner in the so-called forever and believed that promises were real. I never thought that one day; everything would change upon hearing those words which decapitated my heart. He said that we’re over because he loved somebody else. I felt so weak and broken. Tears ran down on my face as he walked away from me. He never even tried to look back. My heart had turn into pieces. That day was the worst day I ever had. I swore not to love again. I thought revenge was a good idea and to ruin others heart can make me happy. I want to make them feel what I felt before. I want them to shed tears more than I did before. I thought I won when I saw them begging and crying as they please me to stay. I was wrong. I realized it’s not their fault. They’re not the same person who fooled me. I should learn to forgive, forget and accept that some things are not meant to be. I should’ve loved myself more instead of playing others’ feelings. It’s been a long time since he left but a thought of me being replaced by somebody else makes my heart freshly cut every day. Time heals as they say. I know one day, I can go back to the old me, not this heartless and cold person whom they know.

Mrs. Aphrile L. de Angel, faculty of ASU-CIT, served as the Lady Dean of ceremonies. WORLD, cont. The event started with a symposium on the basic facts and Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) on Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) and was commenced by the formation of the big red ribbon. This was also the first event of the Supreme Student Council wherein the evening class program students were able to participate.

it. As a result, they are wasting their time waiting for nothing. Corruption and unethical practices could be compared to a poison that is fused with the winds of the typhoon. It adds up to the problems that the people attend to. Hence, we should not point our fingers to someone else, because pointing fingers is a cyclical argument which would never give us any solutions but would only slow down the recovery instead. In the same manner, we should also move to reach our goal to renew what once our lives were. We should help hand-inhand in rising from the abyss of misfortunes. Let us ponder on the fact that resilience does not mean rising from a problem with the help of others. It is rising from the problem by helping ourselves.
of the undesirable things crossing our way. Get rid of that trace of negligence in you if you don’t want to experience a total fiasco coupled with a perfect storm. Enough with the clever excuses! These are already an oldfashioned defense mechanism. Instead of staying in the dump of sweet nothings, get up and rise. Start doing things in a meaningful manner. Exercise time consciousness and walk your talk. There could be a lot of things to be done but mind not the heck of it. You should remember that the bigger leap towards the zone of fulfillment always starts with the smaller one.

Questions like “Why do we need to have peace with people who would like to rule over us?” and “Would having this agreement change anything?” are just some of the queries the public has in mind. Justice for the Fallen 44 Why did this happen? Who authorized the attack? Why was there no help? Who should be blamed? No one knows the truth. And those who know tend to hide it to those who don’t. We know that hiding the truth is the same as lying. And lying is a mortal sin. Well as they say, what has been done, has been done. We cannot turn back what has happened already. What we have right now is the opportunity to make things right the next time around. With the optimism set in our heart and understanding, we aim for world peace. But not peace which means death.

THE STUDENTS’ VOICES HEARD. FOR MORE than half a century, The Aklan Tradesman, the official student publication of Aklan State University-College of Industrial Technology, has been serving as a channel for the whole student populace to voice out their thoughts. Pertinent to this, the Editorial Board connected to the ASU-CIT Community to ask for their comments, suggestions, and opinions relevant to our campus. We reserve the rights for the concerned to respond with the issues given. You are all free to visit our office or to contact our editors about your respective concerns. Like other publications, The Aklan Tradesman believes in full exercise of the press and journalistic freedom without prejudice against the journalistic canons of truth, accuracy, fairness, and absence of malice. Sa tanan-tanan nga mga personnel it ASU- CIT from the Utility, Guards, Clinic & Library staff, Cafeteria employees, Administration, Guidance & OSA Family, Gen. Ed Instructors ag sa akong pinalanggang Teacher Education Department Faculty nagahiyum-hiyum gid nga pagpasaeamat kinyo tanan Ma’ams and Sirs!!! BEST PEDAGOGICAL INSTITUTION I EVER HAD. GOD BLESS US ALL. HERWIN
It is good to know that ASU-CIT has improved. We already have CCTV cameras in our school. Some students say CCTV cameras are one of the requirements for accreditation but I just wonder why we still have insufficient facilities in our comfort rooms.

Kun amat bukun eon ta it credible do safety it foods sa cafeteria. I don’t know if ako malang do naka-experience nga makakita it buhok sa humay ag suea nga binakae ko sa cafeteria. Siin do mga financial reports sa mga project nga ginahambae niyo kung sakali nga may una gidmat’a? Mr. Anonymous
What’s the use of the P.E uniform kung hindi naman po susuotin? CMHERZ_20

Kunta magamit man du pondo it atong university para sa improvement it school building and facilities. Kaeuoy man abi du students nga gaklase sa extension ag sa chapel, matsa tiratira lang it ibang department du ginagamit namon samtang may funds man nga pwede natong gamiton dibaea? Ginlaan du funds para katon, kunta maka benefit man kami nga mga students. “M”

Thumbs up ako sa SSC officers ngayon! Keep it up guys!
I am sorry for this observation, but I really feel the need to voice this out. Students are required to wear school uniform but some of the teachers are being negligent of their responsibility to wear their uniforms too. Ang awkward po sa feeling na di model yung ibang teachers when it comes to this matter.
