A HAPPY TAILS STORY:

sage

THANK YOU! Thanks to generous supporters like you, a record-breaking $428,036 was raised and 53 dogs were adopted at this year’s Best in Show.

THANK YOU! Thanks to generous supporters like you, we reached our goal to raise $10,000 on Nevada’s Big Give day for our Foster Care Program.

THANK YOU! Thank you to everyone who has donated to our Mission: Possible 2020 Capital Campaign. Each donation takes us one step closer to our goal of saving every healthy and treatable animal who comes to us in need. We are now only $3.2 million away from our goal of $35 million required for the new facilities that will expand our lifesaving capabilities.

Thanks to your support, Sage, an underweight and shy stray when she came through our doors, recently celebrated her two-year adoption anniversary in her forever home. Her first year and a half were filled with idyllic companion animal adventures. Sage played on beaches and went on city walks and hiking adventures from coast-to-coast. She went camping and even kayaking. Her newest adventure is practicing her skills to become a therapy dog. Sage will soon be visiting hospitals, assisted care facilities, and veteran centers, demonstrating what lucky rescue pet owners already know – given a chance, our lost, homeless, and abandoned animals pay it forward in spades.

FROM THE CHIEF EXECUTIVE OFFICER

I came to The Animal Foundation a little over a decade ago because I saw an opportunity to transform a broken system at the highest volume single-site animal shelter in the United States, where the lives of lost, homeless, abandoned, and often mistreated animals were at stake. Much like a public hospital, as an openadmission shelter, The Animal Foundation takes in every animal who comes to us in need, no matter how sick or injured. From the expected dogs, cats, rabbits, reptiles, and birds to horses, pigs, chickens, fighting roosters, and occasional exotic animals, we serve them all. Just like a hospital, we can’t save them all. What we can do, with your continued support, is save every healthy and treatable animal who comes into our care. Today, thanks to a solution-driven, hard-working team of staff, volunteers, board members, and community partners, The Animal Foundation is a truly different organization than it was when I arrived. Together, we have taken The Animal Foundation from being an animal shelter in crisis to being one of the largest lifesaving shelters in the country that is on the cusp of becoming one of the best and most successful. We have made remarkable progress toward our Mission: Possible 2020 goal through lifesaving programs that address the root causes of pet overpopulation and homelessness. We would not be where we are today if it were not for the support we receive from the Las Vegas community when people adopt our shelter pets, spay and neuter their pets, engage in our other lifesaving programs, volunteer, and of course, donate. It is your continuing kindness and generosity that will take us to the next chapter in our story. That chapter includes new facilities that will allow us to increase our capacity to save more lives in a humane and healthy way and to become one of the highest volume nonprofit animal shelters in the United States saving all healthy and treatable animals who come into our care.

Sincerely,

Christine Robinson Chief Executive Officer, The Animal Foundation

Extend a Lifeline – foster a pet Sometimes, it doesn’t take much to save a life. By opening your heart – and your home – for as little as a few weeks, you can help us save the lives of pets not ready to be made available for adoption. These pets, who are underage, sick or injured, just need a quiet, stress-free environment and a little more TLC than we can provide in a shelter environment. Our foster coordinator will work directly with you to make sure your foster match is the right one for you, your lifestyle, and schedule. In most cases, our placements last from two weeks to two months. No special skills are required, just dedication, time, and patience. We provide you with everything you need, from food to medications, litter boxes, bowls and toys, depending on what is necessary. Fostering can be one of the most rewarding experiences you’ll ever have. Most of our foster caregivers tell us they get more out of fostering than the pets do! Watching a shelter rescue that has been homeless and neglected blossom when they realize they are safe and loved is magical. Fostering can also be a healing experience for someone who has lost a pet but is not yet ready for another permanent commitment. Maybe you’d like to add a dog or cat to your household, but aren’t sure. Fostering can be a great way to find out. No matter what your circumstances, fostering pets is a wonderful and personal way to contribute to saving homeless animals. For information about becoming a foster pet parent, please contact foster@animalfoundation.com. All foster parents must be 18 or older.
