morial beside the B.B. Dougherty Administration Building at 7:30 a.m. Monday. Approximately 30 attended the celebration.

and spoke at the event. “Veterans are a very important part of our country,” Harper said. “The United States currently has 23 million

veterans.” Appalachian State Army Reserve Officer’s Training Corps performed a flag raising ceremony to end the event.

Basketball players form relationships off the court

by Nick Joyner Appalachian State came out strong this past Saturday, despite falling to the University of Georgia 45-6. The final score notwithstanding, the team trailed just 14-6 after two quarters, although they were pegged as underdogs to the Bulldogs. “It was the tale of two halves, there is no question about it,” head coach Scott Satterfield said. “We started out strong and didn’t shy away from this game. Our guys played with great effort to start the game.” At the half, though down by 8 points, App State led in many important statistical categories that usually result in a winning performance. The Mountaineers had

Appalachian State University will add a Carolina West Wireless cell phone tower on top of Gardner Residence Hall in August 2014, said Tom Kane, director of housing and residence life. The permanent tower will be added after the flooring is replaced on the second through the ninth floors in May 2014, Kane said. The tower has been temporarily placed on Bodenheimer Drive next to the pump station across from Mountaineer Hall, said Michael O’Connor, the director of Physical Plant. “Putting these sites on campus improves cell coverage, capacity and access for our students,” O’Connor said.
