Maria Grazia Postiglione

We are thrilled to introduce Maria Grazia Postiglione, our new Supervisor in the Spa at Arbutus. Maria was born and raised in Ischia, Italy, a volcanic island situated in the Gulf of Naples. Ischia is famous for thermal baths and natural hot springs, making it a favourite destination for tourists seeking some pampering. Growing up in a family that owns a health and beauty store, Maria learned all about the spa industry, becoming tremendously knowledgeable about skin care and spa treatments. Maria’s motto is that “life is all about balance”. When Maria is not working, she is spending time with family, visiting new places, or taking long walks. Though, she also quite enjoys staying home and watching a series on Netflix or reading motivational books. Both warm and incredibly friendly, Maria offers relaxing facials, beautiful manicures, pedicures, and a variety of other treatments.

Hossein Farghadani

It’s no secret that badminton is on the upswing at the Club and the Recreation Services team is thrilled to introduce Hossein Farghdani, our new Badminton Instructor. Hossein first dabbled in badminton when he was only 8 years old and has now been playing and coaching for 27 years. “Coaching is like meditation for me,” says Hossein. Born to be a coach, Hossein loves observing his students improve it gives him satisfaction and joy. Quite the avid adventurer, Hossein enjoys biking, working out, and hiking with his dog, Roxy. When he’s not on the trail, he also enjoys cooking, watching TV/movies, and studying sports. If you think Hossein looks familiar, you’re right! He knows the Club well and previously worked as an attendant in the Fitness Centre.

Gavin Maxwell

pickleball coordinator/coach and squash pro

Pickleball, another growing program area at the Club, welcomes our new Pickleball Coach/ Coordinator and Assistant Squash Pro, Gavin Maxwell. Gavin recently hopped over the Georgia Straight, moving from Victoria. Naturally energetic and eager to assist our members, he has a passion for all racquet sports and has been playing squash for almost 15 years and pickleball for 1 and a half years. Gavin started coaching squash when he was only 16 years old. A former national level squash player, he has been able to help other players improve their game. What started out as quick tips, soon turned into coaching. Gavin is very passionate about helping people become the best possible players that they can be. When Gavin is not at work, he loves to be active. Whether it's going on a hike, biking, or just exploring the city.

Hannah Thompson

Offering a warm welcome and a smile, Reception always sets a friendly tone when our members enter the Club. The team is about to get even sunnier with the introduction of our newest full-time Receptionist, Hannah Thompson. Hannah recently moved to Vancouver from Ontario to complete her postgraduate education degree at UBC, so she is no stranger to problem solving skills and thinking on her feet. Upon graduation, Hannah is hoping to teach elementary school children. Outside of work, Hannah is a competitive figure skater. She was going to compete nationally, but the competition was cancelled due to COVID-19. Let’s hope she’ll bring home some gold in the near future. ♦
