During the excavations at Snaketown a nearly exact palette was found, see ‘Excavations at Snaketown’ Plate C Item B. They categorize it as ‘An eccentric, border and edges grooved and notched.’ This one’s edges are carved in a basket pattern. There are only two known examples of this style in the world, the one at Snaketown and this one. One of the finest Hohokam lithics we have ever handled. Heavy deposits on the surface. Hohokam Palettes often are referred to as ‘Paint Palettes’ however most Archaeologists believe these were used as more of a snuff palette for ceremonial use.
