“By nurturing the artist, we enrich the community.” The Art League develops the artist through education, exhibition, and a stimulating, supportive environment, while sharing the experience of the visual arts with the community. You may be new to The Art League through participation in exhibits in our gallery, or through studies at our prestigious school. Whatever your introduction to us is, you’ll enjoy our dynamic and comprehensive visual arts offerings as well as exhibition and art sales opportunities in the largest gallery at the landmark Torpedo Factory Art Center (TFAC). These opportunities are presented by the League’s hundreds of artists, patrons, and volunteers.

Development/Outreach 703-519-1741 Outreach/ Scholarships/ Internships The League partners with the Alexandria Court Service Unit on our award-winning outreach project, SOHO—A Space of Her Own. The project teams mentors with at-risk girls who receive intensive art instruction and develop essential life skills. Working in groups, the girls redesign their personal spaces using their artwork and visual concepts learned during the program. To become a mentor or learn more, contact the Development Office. The Geri Gordon Scholarship Fund was established in 1998 to celebrate former Art League School Director Geri Gordon’s remarkable vision and 20 years of service and dedication. Scholarships are awarded for League art classes. Donations to the fund are welcome. Unpaid internships are available throughout the year. They provide excellent work experience in the visual arts and meet college internship requirements. For details, contact the Gallery.

The Gallery

The gallery is located on the first floor of the TFAC, in studio 21. Hours are 10:00am–6:00pm, Monday through Saturday, and 12:00pm–6:00pm on Sunday. The Gallery stays open late on Thursdays, 10:00am–9:00pm.

Join as an Artist Member for Full Benefits Membership in The Art League is open to all, and provides a fellowship of over 1,000 artists, as well as excellent exhibit opportunities. Members may enter monthly shows that are judged by art professionals such as art critics, educators, and museum curators. A reception opens each show, and works remain on display for one

month. Members receive a monthly newsletter, which includes notices of events, projects, and programs. The gallery sponsors lectures and technical seminars free of charge or at nominal cost. The gallery maintains a lending library of art history, biographical, technical, and media books. The Store

Our store is located in room 217 of the TFAC and is open 9:15am– 4:00pm, Monday through Saturday, while classes are in session. The first two weeks of each term, extended evening and weekend hours are 6:00pm–8:00pm, Monday through Thursday, and 10:00am–4:00pm, Sundays. For the remainder of the term, evening hours are 6:30pm– 7:30pm Tuesday and Wednesday. Hours between terms are 10:00am–4:00pm Monday through Saturday. The store may close for lunch.

Art Supplies As a non-profit organization, The Art League Store sells supplies at a discounted price to League students and members. Every effort is made to stock items requested by instructors, as well as popular materials for the fine artist. Our staff of professional artists can guide you in your selection. Most class supply lists are available in the store. Due to our large enrollment, we are unable to email, fax, or read lists over the phone. To Register

The school office is located on the 2nd floor of the Torpedo Factory Art Center (TFAC), room 216. The office is open 10:00am–5:00pm, Monday through Saturday. Classes are held in TFAC, and Madison Annex.

The Art League School is a non-accredited institution and is open to all. A full range of day, evening, and weekend courses is offered in virtually all of the fine arts and many fine crafts. Our instructors are professional artists. The school offers children’s classes for ages five through teen, and camps throughout the summer. Information is available on our website or by contacting the school during office hours.

Workshops Art League instructors, as well as distinguished visiting instructors, offer concentrated week or weekend sessions in specific media, techniques, and subjects. Travel workshops to international and domestic locations are also offered yearround. For information on travel workshops, contact Margaret Cerutti at 703-683-1780 or margaretc@theartleague.org.

Weather In case of inclement weather, go to our website home page, call the school office, or tune in for announcements on TBD (WJLA ABC 7 and NewsChannel 8) as well as WTOP 103.5 FM.

Holidays Classes do not meet on Thanksgiving, Easter Sunday, Memorial Day, or July 4. These holidays, or any additional days designated by the instructor, will have make-up dates.

3. If not enrolling online, fill out the registration form and send it with your payment made out to The Art League School at 105 North Union Street Alexandria, VA 22314. Upon receipt of your registration form and payment in full, unless the class is full or cancelled, you are registered. If the class is full or cancelled, you will be notified and are entitled to a full refund. You may begin classes in any term and register for workshops at any time. Late registrations will be honored for available classes only. A transfer fee of $20 will be assessed for each transfer from one class to another, unless the transfer was a result of an administrative decision. All transfers must be made before the third meeting of the class. No workshop and camp refunds are given unless The Art League School office is notified at least ten days prior to the start of the camp or workshop. No class refunds are given unless we are notified by the Friday prior to the start of the term (see calendar on the inside of the front cover of the catalog). There is a non-refundable registration fee of $20 that is included in the tuition.

Location

The public is invited to attend our annual Student/Faculty Show in The Art League Gallery, February 20–March 3, 2013. The reception will be held on Sunday, March 3, 2013.

The Art League School is located in the Torpedo Factory Art Center (TFAC) at 105 North Union Street, Alexandria, VA 22314. Classes are also held in one other location: our Madison Annex, which can be entered at either 305 Madison Street or 808 North Fairfax Street, Alexandria, VA 22314.

School Policy

No student will be denied admission on the basis of race, sex, or ethnicity. However, because of the need for group cooperation in classes, The Art League reserves the option of refusing admission to any person deemed incompatible with any class group due to disruptiveness, or for any impediment to the learning process of the group as a whole. Safety precautions and proper use of art materials and chemicals are rigorously practiced. Please use discretion when registering for classes, as The Art League cannot be held responsible for adverse reactions that may arise in some individuals. If you are pregnant, or think you may be, please consult a physician before registering.

Take the Yellow or Blue Line to the King Street Station; then take the Alexandria Dash Bus #2 or #5, eastbound. For the Madison Annex, stay on the bus until the Madison and North Fairfax Street intersection. For the TFAC, leave the bus at the King Street and Fairfax Street intersection then, walk 2 blocks east on King Street to North Union Street. Turn left on Union Street, and the TFAC is a half block down on the right. In addition, the free King Street Trolley runs every 15 minutes from the King Street Station to Union Street, seven days a week from 11:30am–10:15pm.

Parking For students in the TFAC classrooms, there is inexpensive evening and weekend parking at the City Hall lot at 108 North Fairfax Street. For students in the Madison Annex, free parking is available weekdays after 6:30pm and on the weekends at Colonial Parking on 267 Montgomery Street.

Sketchbooks Stephen Procopio Through practice and demonstration, participants learn methods for developing more coherent and engaging sketchbooks. A portion of each class is spent examining and discussing works of other artists, including the masters e.g. Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rembrandt and contemporaries e.g. Eleanor Dickenson, James Jean, Craig Thompson. This class provides first-time/beginning students with a solid foundation in drawing. Working with pencil and charcoal, students learn to use line, value, gesture, and perspective. Students also develop the ability to “see” as artists. The class works with a variety of subjects including still life, figure, and landscape. Students often repeat this course to refine their control of the medium. Model fees are extra.

In this class students learn to use the various hardnesses of graphite pencils on many kinds of papers. The first seven weeks cover techniques such as blending, powders, washes, erasing, and line in expressive and realistic styles. Participants may use their own photos and props or those supplied by the teacher. The last few weeks may be devoted to personal projects. This class is suitable for all levels and provides a great opportunity to work with a versatile draftsman and designer at your side. Supplies are inexpensive and uncomplicated. Some previous drawing experience is required. A $10 materials fee, payable to the instructor, covers papers.

Classical Figure Marjorie Forgues This class explores the classical process of painting and drawing the figure from start to finish. Students learn to understand form by drawing from the cast and then moving to the figure. An emphasis is placed on proportion, construction, and lighting as well as modeling of the form to create a realistic surface. Instruction includes demonstrations as well as one-on-one time.

Students develop consistency, accuracy, and confidence before using color. Weekly demonstrations and drills train students to see proportions, planes, values, and learn systematic human head construction. Continuing students may use their preferred media to draw from photos, or 2- and 3-week poses. Basic Drawing is a suggested prerequisite.

Colored Pencil Drawing Lisa Semerad Participants explore drawing with this flexible, fabulous, controllable color feast, and leave class with hands and clothes clean. Through study from still life and photos students learn about color, layering, mixed media, and solvent technique, along with the rich color and texture possibilities of various paper surfaces. Previous drawing experience is recommended. Experienced students may pursue personal projects. Supply list is in the store. Bring supplies to first class.

Colored Pencil Drawing Continued Lisa Semerad This class is for people who have a basic understanding of color selection and technique and want to work on their own projects. Topics covered include composition, continuity, concept, and finish. The last hour each week concludes with a lesson for increasing creativity and originality. Supply list is in the store. Composition & Design Fundamentals Lisa Semerad The foundation of strong imagery is design—a vital element to all art forms. Students learn to recognize and control movement within the picture plane through study of shape, value, pattern, line, texture, and color in multiple formats. Most exercises are in abstract form, which are then related to both abstract and representational art. No previous drawing experience needed.

This class comprises two main components: the principles of figure drawing and the study of artistic anatomy. Students learn the skills to depict the figure from live pose, memory, and imagination. Lectures, demos, discussions, and homework are planned. Model fees are extra.

Longer poses allow for more focused, complete or experimental study. Using both clothed and nude models, poses range from 1–6 hours long. Composition, narrative, accuracy, style exploration, and creative approaches are emphasized. Numerous drawing materials are demonstrated. Prerequisites are basic drawing and beginning figure. Model fees are extra.

Gesture Drawing Jackie Saunders Students capture the spirit and vitality of the human figure with pen and ink. Contour, cross-contour, and rhythmic lines interact with washes of diluted ink to create expressive, lively figure drawings. Model fees are extra.

See the figure as a dynamic whole. Gestural techniques in wet and dry media combine line and washes in both color and black and white to capture the pose, build volume, and anchor the figure in space. Emphasis is on expressive line in both contour and gesture.

This class explores media combinations in drawing such as black pencil and charcoal over pencil or photo-copies, graphite with turpentine, crayon resist with ink, pencil on board with conté and white acrylic, ball point with pencil and gouache, hard and colored pencils on tracing paper, oil washes with pencil on tracing paper, red and black chalk with ink lines and washes. Subject matter ranges from still life and landscape to figure and portrait, but emphasis is on exploration of the media and self-discovery. Each term introduces new media combinations. There is a small fee for some communal items, and model fees are extra.

The Art of Caricature David Carter The form and communicative potential of the face is a poignant means of expression for the artist. The art of caricature extends this visual vocabulary beyond nature’s normal repertoire. Whether for humor, satire, or the creation of fictional characters, caricature is “hyper-portraiture.” Students learn to combine anatomy with creative techniques for exaggerating and distorting the rhythms, gestures, and proportions that make each face unique. The exercises are designed to sensitize the mind and eye to the human form’s dynamic design and provide an understanding of its anatomy, proportion, and symmetry. Faces in Watercolor Jackie Saunders Learn to draw human faces using shape, proportion, sighting techniques, contour, and cross-contour line. Students learn to mix warm and cool flesh tones from fresh washes of watercolor pigment, and define features with clean, descriptive shadow shapes. Correct placement of the features is taught to capture not only the likeness but the spirit of the model. Model fees are extra.

The Watercolor Studio: Impressionism, Abstraction & Design

Gouache Painting in a Small Format

Miniature painting has had a rich tradition ranging from ancient Rome and medieval illuminated manuscripts, to India and Persia, to the Renaissance. The small format encourages the artist to create something intimate and personal. Gouache is the perfect medium for this type of work. Gouache is a heavy, opaque watercolor paint that has been used for centuries. It is easier to handle than transparent watercolor because it can be continually reworked, or “corrected.” Students learn techniques and use of tools and materials while the instructor provides examples, designs, and source materials for paintings. Different surfaces and formats are explored and demos of the medium are included.

This class offers a unique, creative atmosphere where engaging the right brain in the painting process is the fundamental goal. Each week’s lesson is based on the core concept of moving one’s work to the next level. Class direction is established through a discussion of concepts and artists as well as complete demonstrations and lectures. Students are encouraged to work in their personal style and develop their own direction. Experience in watercolor painting is required.

Carol Dupré This seminar covers important questions about painting, about a vulgate of language management or redirection within art language, paint language, histories of art reread, then the highly stimulated areas of approach that can reassess the significance of painting. Materials and variables of application, color mixtures, background facilitation or potencies, initial bases of anatomical structure and points of restructuration or editing of form are all covered. Also studied is the problem of content hierarchies versus surface diplomacy. Different pathways will be taken by each student—according to interest and area of study. A successful plein air painting starts with good site selection and a winning composition. We will explore how to achieve both when we head outside with sketchbooks and other paper surfaces. We will gather research on value, color, and form which can be used in the studio, or outside on another day, to create paintings. A minimum of supplies will guarantee that you cover much more ground and explore many more possibilities in your search for the perfect plein air painting.

Painting the Landscape— “Breaking It Down” Through demonstrations and confidence building exercises, students learn techniques, methods, and approaches to painting the landscape. This class explores and focuses on a different element of landscape each quarter. Fall: trees, flora, and the figure outdoors. Winter: clouds and skies. Abstract Expressions

This two-day class explores the picturesque streets in Old Town as subject matter for “en plein air” painting in any media. Students select two sites, the first site for a morning painting, the other for an afternoon painting. Each scene is rendered over the two-day period. In case of rain or excessive heat, students may choose to escape to a classroom and use photos taken of the chosen scenes to finish the works.

Students liberate their inner voices, feelings, experiences, and personal visions through abstract expression. The root of the class is experimentation. Abstracting with Acrylic Mixed Media

This class develops students’ painting skills through the self-expression of color and form. Students use color concepts from Post-Impressionism to Action Painting. The motifs of landscape, figure, and still life are examined. There are critiques, slide presentations, and gallery field trips.

Developing the Narrative Beverly Ryan Students find ways to link storylines and visual elements to say something with paint. By approaching content through personal experience, gestural drawing or painting, and experimentation with seemingly random ideas, discoveries are made that lead to individualistic narrative work. Risktaking, intuitive problem-solving, and discussion are encouraged and lead the student to insightful solutions. The building of one’s own vocabulary of forms is a goal.

This class is designed for students with some background in printmaking, as well as for more advanced students. By working with a master printmaker students can refine their skills in intaglio, lithography and/or monotype printing by focusing on individual or class projects. New and more advanced techniques will be introduced for student exploration. A $40 lab fee is payable to instructor.

Printmaking Projects and Techniques Penny Barringer

Nancy McIntyre Silk screen printing can fill a page with color in a single stroke, or build layer upon transparent layer of intricate detail. Screen prints may be vibrant or subtle, sharp-edged, or brushy and textured. Students create hand-painted, hand-cut, and photographic stencils, and then print through them using water-based non-toxic inks. Lab fee of $50, payable to the instructor, covers supplies and screen.

Field trips enhance the learning experience by providing one-on-one hands-on instruction. Please bring your camera manual to each class.

Learn the basics of traditional black & white photography including proper film exposure, film development, and printing of negatives. Any skill level is welcome from beginner to advanced. 35mm and medium format cameras are welcome, but not required. There is also an opportunity to experiment with the plastic Holga “toy camera.”

Is your child yearning for something new? Art camp provides a wonderful way of introducing children to several forms of visual art. In our basic art camp, each day brings a new project which may include drawing, painting, printmaking, or sculpture. In the specialty camps the focus is on immersing the children in one media. Camps come in whole and half day sessions over a five day week. Tuition for the all-day camps includes a supervised lunch hour. Create your own all-day session by combining a basic camp with a media specialty camp. The Art League Ceramics Studio is located at our Madison Annex in Old Town, Alexandria. The studios are large, bright, and well equipped, easily stimulating creativity. Open studio time allows students to practice and expand their skills outside of class. Students interested in a complete clay experience may participate in our assistant work-study program and have the opportunity to learn how to mix glazes, recycle clay, and load kilns. Participants in the assistants program are eligible for tuition reduction. Please call The Art League School for details. This course focuses on making forms and surfaces appropriate for the wood firing process. Students are encouraged to think of the effects of the flames on their wares as soon as the clay touches the wheel. Textures and surfaces left thick and defined catch ash and encourage natural ash glazes. Class participants experiment with different clay bodies and learn about their possibilities, which seem endless! Discussions include historic pots and firing techniques, and what these bring to contemporary work.

This three-day workshop focuses on functional wheel thrown pottery. Several approaches to handle, spout, and feet making are explored. Demonstrations, slides, and group discussion form the basis for an understanding of how to look critically at ceramic work, as well as expand the understanding of form, surface, volume, and intent. Linda demonstrates throwing and altering forms in the morning, followed by a break for lunch with a film. Participants will be able to work hands-on in the afternoon, with one-on-one attention from Linda.

Participate first hand in the magic of firing pots in a wood kiln! This is a unique opportunity to experience the entire process of firing a woodfired salt kiln as pots are naturally decorated by the flames, wood ash, and salt. Students begin by loading the kiln on Saturday morning and allowing it to preheat through the night. The main firebox is lit early Sunday morning and finishes Sunday evening. Along with a lot of shared food and conversation, Blair and Allison place a strong emphasis on their glazing, stacking, stoking, and salting techniques. Participants may bring 12–18 pieces. This workshop is held offsite at the instructors’ studio in Maryland. The Associates’ Program within the Ceramics Department provides access to shared studio space for advanced artists interested in working in a cooperative learning environment. The program provides the opportunity for Ceramic Artists to refine their craft while working toward defined goals in an atmosphere of artistic interaction, healthy critique, and professional growth. The Associates’ Program is an important part of The Art League’s Ceramics Program. Associates are expected to help with educational and other outreach programs when necessary on a rotating basis. Carving these ancient mediums is a great experience for every sculptor. This class provides students with the techniques and skills needed for stone and wood carving, starting with the sketch and continuing to the carving, finishing, patina, and mounting of the piece on a base. Students work on an individual project in the medium they choose. The studio is equipped with power and hand tools. Wood and stone are available for purchase in class.

Ever wondered how experts recreate a face when the subject may have been dead for thousands of years? By utilizing modern forensic techniques and materials, each student puts together a sculpted reconstruction of a human head starting with only a skull as a reference. At the end of the course, the real subjects are revealed, solving a 7-week mystery! Cast skulls and plasticine are included, other supplies are extra.

Apps for Artists Nancy Freeman With the advent of smart phones and tablet computers there has been an explosion of amazing, inexpensive tools to create art. Some start with a blank “canvas” on which to draw or paint. Some start with a camera. Some start with an existing image. Many can do all three. This survey course covers the range of apps that artists can use. Although there are thousands of image apps, they fall into six main categories, which are divided into four weeks. All class sessions begin with demonstrations and examples of these remarkable tools, and then allow time for students to work with them and ask questions. Participants need to bring an iPad.

The studio provides large workspaces with an assortment of floor looms, table looms, spinning wheels, dyeing facilities, silk steamer, and an extensive fiber library. Open studio is available to Art League members and students for a nominal fee. Our floor loom rental fees include open studio time. Inkle Weaving

Plain weave is a structure often abandoned in favor of the supposedly more exciting twills and tied weaves, but plain weave can be exciting and dramatic. This round robin workshop produces a variety of beautiful plain weave samples. Many of the techniques can be woven on a 4-shaft loom. Appropriate for beginning, intermediate, and more advanced weavers wanting to try some new techniques. In this introductory class to using natural dyes, students join the instructor in the dye kitchen where the focus is on the extraction of dye colors from raw materials, for example tree bark, roots, and leaves. Surface Design Techniques for Textiles Candace Edgerly Silk screen on textiles using dyes allows the fabric artist to create simple designs or intricate detail without disturbing the “hand” or feel of the fabric. Wicked Wire Construction Hats Jan Wutkowski Wire construction was traditionally used to create Titanicera type hats that were covered with lovely laces, tulle, or ribbon. Today it is primarily used to create dramatic avantgarde shapes. Learn to measure, cut, and bind millineary wire to construct the hat shape, then learn covering techniques. Discover the types of wire available and when to use each type in wire frames. This class demonstrates numerous ways to create shape, style, and drama from the wire construction process. A Story in the Making: Creating Story Cloth with Print and Stitch Julie Booth Students use a variety of fabric printing and painting techniques along with basic hand stitching to tell a story in cloth. Participants are encouraged to “find” their stories through a series of surface design exercises and to expand their concept of story. This workshop investigates an adventurous way to approach art. Participants experiment fearlessly with a variety of mediums. Splattering ink, brushing on charcoal, adding on, or ripping off are just a few methods that are explored. The aim is to be completely innovative by breaking away from the familiar and discovering new dimensions. Personal growth is emphasized while overcoming old restrictions.

Increase and refine drawing skills by using the “sight-size” method of drawing from plaster casts that is the foundation in ateliers around the world. With this method, the cast and the artist’s easel are arranged so that the subject and the drawing paper appear to be the same size. Then, using various measuring tools, students render an object precisely as it looks to the artist on a one to one scale. Time is spent on the individual steps of blocking in, laying in, shadows, half-tones, highlights, value, and edges. Full demonstrations are included.

Participants plan and begin a series of three to four paintings based on their own photos and sketches. On the first evening, students meet with Diane to review ideas and plan subject matter for the week. Rolled canvas and stretching supplies are used to move beyond the boundaries of standard canvas sizes. This workshop focuses on making a unified, fresh environment for a child’s room or a nursery through the use of paint. Several painting techniques are taught throughout the class such as identifying color ideas, painting stripes, copying fabric patterns with stencils, and choosing wall finishes. Simple mural ideas are demonstrated and students practice and paint samples in class to take home and copy in the room.

Participants spend five days working plein air in and around Susan’s 1840’s farmhouse and studio, surrounded by woods, meadows, and hills near Plainfield, Vermont. Students may work in watercolor, oil, acrylic, or pastel. Some prior painting experience is required, but first time plein air painters are welcome. Class is limited to fourteen. Robin Reid Photography is all about capturing light. But what light is needed? Daylight doesn’t always cooperate; but pop-up flash is limited. Before one invests blindly, learn about the tools professionals use: flash, strobe, reflectors, umbrellas, gels, gobos, grids, and snoots. Participants learn to make many of these tools inexpensively. In addition, participants learn how the color of light impacts the final product, and how and when to change the size of the lights. Using untraditional fold form raising and hammer texturing, students will create a sculptural hand ornament incorporating fine silver and copper. A materials list is available from the instructors prior to the workshop, or an all-inclusive kit may be ordered in advance. Tuition includes use of enamels. Prerequisites: basic, competent hard silver soldering and fabrication techniques necessary.

Paula Coupe Participants make fine silver jewelry with ease and speed using a different approach from conventional methods. PMC is a compound of fine silver particles mixed into an organic binder that can be rolled, shaped, and textured with amazing detail. Students learn about the various types and forms of PMC and try the basic techniques for creating and finishing jewelry. A $15 tool kit, and metal clay may be purchased from the instructor.

This workshop explores the ancient art of making glass beads using a Hot Head torch and Bullseye compatible glass rods. Students learn to make basic glass beads, and then progress to making various shapes. Studio set-up and safety considerations are discussed. A $100 materials fee, payable to the instructor, covers all materials. This workshop is held offsite at the instructor’s studio in Maryland.

The ideal next step for the student who has some experience fusing, either in a kiln-forming course or independently, this workshop strengthens participant’s technical knowledge of fusing glass, allowing creativity to shine through. Learn to refine glass cutting and layup skills, anticipate and avoid common issues, how to use a circle cutter, and how to measure and cut glass to fit other pieces in a composition. Creating a plate and a coordinating piece of tableware, participants are introduced to basic design concepts. Simple methods for coldworking an edge are also covered. Finally, a refresher on firing schedules and proper firing techniques is reviewed so that students may work on their own and adapt firing schedules appropriately for personal kilns. A $100 materials fee is payable to the instructor. This workshop is held off-site at the instructors’ studio in Maryland.

Students explore the possibilities of kiln-formed glass as they learn the basics of glass cutting, firing schedules, glass compatibility, and annealing. Participants experiment with design possibilities using a wide variety of frit, stringers, confetti, and iridized glass to create a set of “Time & Temperature” tiles, a fused and slumped bowl, and several other projects. Both the technical and artistic sides of the medium of fused glass are shown. A $100 materials fee is payable to the instructor. Contemporary Glass Fusing for Jewelry Judith Conway

Working in a professional glass studio, students create fused glass pendants, earrings, and pins in this introductory workshop while learning to exploit the transparency and depth of glass. Students learn the techniques of layering colored glass, using dichroic coatings, shaping blanks with saws and grinders, and using multiple firings to create a professional look. Becoming Professional Workshops

Originally used as wrapping and end papers in the 1650’s, paste papers offer exciting design possibilities to modern calligraphers. This workshop delves into a variety of tools and techniques used to make patterns on paper. Paper selection, making and coloring paste, and drying methods are also discussed. Paste making is demonstrated. Participants leave with hand-made samples of paste papers, several recipes for different pastes, and a bibliography.
