Welcome

WELCOME On behalf of The Arts Centre Gold Coast, it gives me great pleasure in welcoming you to our inaugural Glitter Festival 2015. This initiative demonstrates the city’s coming of age and our willingness to be openly bold about our social views and sophisticated in our creative aspirations.

Glitter Festival will be a true celebration of everything that is LGBTIQAP+ on the Gold Coast, while at the same time responding to a growing need for greater acceptance and inclusiveness. Art provides the perfect platform for the exchanging of ideas, challenging stereotypes and the bringing together of people – so I thank you for joining us on this exciting and shimmering experience. So get ready to be glittered!

Destry Puia Glitter Festival Champion & The Arts Centre Gold Coast General Manager

Proudly supported by

Glitter Festival 2015 is set to be the biggest festival of LGBTIQAP+ arts and culture that the Gold Coast has ever seen. The Arts Centre Gold Coast’s doors will literally be flung open to welcome the entire community in a celebration of music, cabaret, theatre, film and visual arts. In addition to this programming, our signature and affiliated events will be the most sort after experiences on the Gold Coast social calendar this year. We are thrilled to deliver what is an incredibly accessible program of shows, events, discussions and community activities that have been curated to not only entertain, but to provoke ideas and discussion and to celebrate everything that is fabulous on the GC. Underpinned by an artistic program, Glitter is one massive social event and meeting place for the community to gather and network and be joyful in the company of each other’s individuality. It’s time to spray this town in Glitter, join the party, unite and be proud to be part of an open and progressive community.

LIZA (on an E) Following several sell-out seasons in the West End and Australia, Trevor Ashley channels the infamously iconic Liza Minnelli in Liza (on an E). Raucous, ruinous and just the right (or wrong) side of risqué, Ashley dishes the dirt on Liza’s extraordinary life and delivers her greatest hits accompanied by a live on stage band in a power packed performance. This is an evening that will have you laughing, crying and screaming for more, it’s a rollercoaster ride of riotous proportions. Start spreadin’ the booze – Trevor Ashley is bringing Liza back! Don’t miss the opportunity to see an international hit show like no other.

Hailing from Melbourne, Philmah Bocks and Art Simone are one of Australia’s best known, award winning drag duos and they are lip-syncing their way from Melbourne to the Gold Coast to get a tan. With itsy bitsy polka dot bikinis and legs that just shouldn’t be seen, it’s all on display! Well known for their spicy comedy and with a cocktail of high energy and a bus load of glamorous gowns, Philmah and Art create wonderful nights of vibrancy and social lubrication.

Featuring local drag performers who’ve been whipped in to shape (we literally whipped them when they weren’t good), you’re in for quite a day at the beach...
