Saw, file, sand, solder and texture the metal to make pendants, brooches, rings, and more! Combine gems and found objects with the metals we use in the studio to make unique pieces of jewelry.

PRECIOUS METAL CLAY JEWELRY

It can be worked with your fingers or with simple tools. In this class you will learn how to form PMC into items that fire in a kiln for thirty minutes and emerge as wearable jewelry objects. Instruction will include how to texture, form and finish your pieces. PMC will be available for purchase in class; the price fluctuates depending on market price. To give you an idea of the cost, during our Winter 2019 semester, PMC was approximately $52 per 25g package. In this class, we will create a linear marriage of metal pattern using copper and silver sheet or nickel silver and silver sheet in 18g. Come learn how to diversify your technique and create unique pieces through the marriage of metals!

EXPLORATIONS IN JEWELRY TECHNIQUES & DESIGN

Elizabeth Tokoly 19U JEL084: Tuesdays, Jun 18-Jul 23, 12:30 PM to 3:30 PM 6 sessions $200 ($205 after Jun 6) Material fee payable to instructor Material list: tasoc.org Intermediate and advanced Advanced beginner and intermediate students will move through a series of core projects to build a foundation, including: step bezel setting, cold connection (rivets and jump rings), texturing, soldering (chain with toggle clasp), chain samples, file rings (bamboo and facet), appliqué jewelry, hollow forms, easy prongs, and tube settings. Findings (parts used to complete a piece of jewelry) will be covered throughout the class. Projects will take a series of sessions to complete, varying based on design and technique. Upon completion, a curriculum specific to your design style/technical direction will be created. Advanced students may work on individual projects with guidance from the instructor. Learn the technical and problem-solving skills necessary to create your own jewelry designs from drawings to finished pieces.

If you can use a roller, cookie cutter, and stamps, you can design beautiful jewelry. PMC is a fine silver clay (.999% pure silver) that you sculpt to form one-of-a-kind pendants, earrings, rings, or anything you can imagine! Once your clay is dried, it is fired in a kiln and you are left with a beautiful, fine, silver heirloom. In addition to jewelry design, you will learn mold making, stone setting in PMC, and patina methods to create interesting effects. PMC will be available for purchase in class; the price fluctuates depending on market price. This class will introduce you to the basic skills in jewelry making through a variety of simple projects. Learn how to design, use tools, saw, form, solder, and polish. Students are encouraged to be inquisitive while exploring and experimenting with different materials.
