NCC MANIFESTO WE ARE...
WE PRAY...
more afraid of missing opportunities than making mistakes. We are a lab where everything is an experiment. If the Kingdom of God had departments, we’d be R&D. There are ways of doing church that no one has thought of yet. We are orthodox in belief, but unorthodox in practice.
like it depends on God, and work like it depends on us. We want to be great at the great commandment and the great commission. We strive to make the name of Jesus famous in our generation.
WE BELIEVE...
WE HOPE...
that if you want to reach people no one is reaching, you have to do things no one is doing. A church that stays within its four walls isn’t a church at all. We don’t go to church because we are the church. The church is not a noun, it’s a verb. An action verb.
to become a part of the personal dream God has given you, and we invite you to become a part of the corporate dream God has given us. NCC is a dream factory where people get a vision from God and go for it.
WE WANT... to be more known for what we’re for than what we’re against. We celebrate each person as invaluable and irreplaceable in the eyes of God because no one can worship God like you or for you. Like Jesus, we love people when they least expect it and least deserve it.
DREAM BIG. PRAY HARD. THINK LONG.
Every number has a name. Every name has a story. Every story matters to God.

UPRISING
70 students chose to serve locally and think globally for five days at mission camp
31 Small Group Leaders commit every week to discipling the next generation
17 Students joined a “Trade Group” focused on how our passions become worship
“Take Courage” was our theme for this past year’s Mission Camp, where 70 students spent 5 days serving with a number of our missions partners in DC. One of the most impactful evenings of the camp was our Night of Reconciliation. Our multiracial group of Uprising students honestly conversed together, then fervently prayed that their generation would overturn racial division and be bringers of unity in every sphere they influence.
Our kids and students aren’t just the church of tomorrow, they are the church of now.

DC DREAM CENTER 2016 was a busy year of building—literally! We are seeing dreams become brick-and-mortar reality as construction is completed at the DC Dream Center, one of our key mission expressions in the DC area. The DC Dream Center will be located in what used to be an abandoned apartment building in SE DC, beautifully rehabbed to house an art center, dance studio, computer lab, basketball court, recording studio, and much more. The heartfelt giving of many NCCers helped to fund the $4.9 million construction project.
From mentoring and tutoring to personal development and legal assistance, the DC|DC will encompass a spectrum of programs from low-barrier after-school activities and tutoring to one-on-one mentoring. One person at a time, the DC|DC inspires youth and adults to dare to dream and learn to lead, so that they reach their God-given potential.

770 M STREET This year, we continued to deepen ties and build relationships with a wide variety of community stakeholders as we zero in on a final vision for this historic property. We have been talking with Mayor Muriel Bowser’s office of Planning and Economic Development; the DC Historic Preservation Review Board; area neighborhood commissions; Councilmember Charles Allen’s office; the Washington Navy Yard; the Office of Planning and Zoning; and local and national developers. We share a common goal: to honor the historic roots of the 124-year-old building, provide community gathering space, and support the needs of NCC as it continues to grow. While we think, dream, and plan together, the 100,000-square-foot building continues to be a self-sustaining rental property with net proceeds funding kingdom work.

NOTE FROM
PASTOR MARK
This past year was a banner year at NCC! On October 30, 2016, our eight campuses gathered at DAR Constitution Hall to celebrate twenty years of God’s faithfulness. It was a so far, so God moment. It’s hard to believe twenty years have come and gone, but we’re just getting started! My favorite definition of aging is accumulating evidence of God’s faithfulness. Our 20th Celebration was a microcosm of all that God has done. We have accumulated so much evidence of God’s miracles, God’s mercies! And the best is yet to come! One personal highlight for me was the message I preached on July 2, 2016, kicking off our Mountains Move series. I issued a challenge in the form of a question: “What is the bravest prayer you could pray?” I never imagined that after four decades of praying for my asthma to be healed that it would happen that day! On December 31, 2016, I celebrated 183 days of being inhaler-free, and counting! As the calendar flips to 2017, I am anticipating all that God is going to do in and through our church. We are on the brink of opening the DC Dream Center, a place where hope becomes habit. We will dive into the Bible in our Long Story Short series. And we will keep serving our city, keep making disciples, keep sending out missions teams, and keep praying for God to to show up and show off His grace, His power, His goodness!
