here are two phrases that have become part of our vocabulary at NCC: So Far So God and The Best is Yet to Come. God is coming at us from two directions—His faithfulness is pursuing us from the past, and His sovereignty is setting us up for the future. We find ourselves where those two realities, those two theologies, intersect. There is no better place to be!
Every weekend at NCC feels like a minor miracle, with more than 500 volunteers serving across our seven campuses. Along with serving our local communities, we took 21 mission trips across the country and around the world. And, of course, we completed Phase 1 of our Yes & Amen vision. Thanks to your generosity, we did it debt-free. 2019 was a banner year, and I have no doubt, greater things are still to come! It’s a new year, a new decade—2020. Ready or not, here we come!

Yes & Amen A year of overflowing generosity
In January 2019, NCC leaders met to pray in the empty shell of the 127-year-old Navy Yard Car Barn as construction began in this miracle property. We kept working like it depended on us and praying like it depended on God, and in an astonishingly short six months, we were consecrating our new worship space! In September this historic structure, formerly known as the “Blue Castle,” was officially renamed Capital Turnaround, a name replete with biblical and historical significance. Because of the generosity of NCCers, we were able to complete Phase 1 of Yes & Amen in record time—and completely debt-free! As of early 2020, we are on track to complete Phase 2 debt-free as well.
1,493 INDIVIDUALS INVESTED IN THE YES & AMEN VISION
Phase 1:
1,000-seat event venue which doubles as worship space. Completed June 2019.
Phase 2:
20,000-sq-ft Child Development Center to bless the city and serve as Kids Ministry space on the weekends. Targeted completion: Fall 2020.
Phase 3:
Mixed-use marketplace: restaurants, retail, and co-working space. We’re currently praying, planning, and dreaming about specifics for this community hub and economic engine.

This trip challenged me in many ways as I thought about how I can be more generous, how I can be a peacemaker / third party for conflicts I’m not directly involved in, how I often judge others based on their differing beliefs, and the importance of holding space for different narratives. I learned that God loves each of us so much. Every person.”

I’m very grateful for NCC Worship leading me into God’s presence all throughout the week.”

This is such a tangible way for them to bless others! In fact, one of our NCC kids told his parents that he really wanted to buy everything for one blessing bag all by himself, instead of having his parents purchase the items. This young man spent an entire day cleaning toys, taking pictures, and listing his toys for sale online. He sold his own toys and used that money to bless someone experiencing homelessness.”

It was a very emotional five days for me as I saw God working in my students’ lives. It was a perfect amount of fun and a perfect amount of deep issues (that some people might feel like youth can’t handle). Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of such a life-changing experience alongside my girls.”

Pastor Joel Schmidgall & Pastor Marion Mason Our newest campus began meeting in our brand-new space at Capital Turnaround in July 2019. We took the month of September to publicly launch the campus. We blanketed the neighborhood and the web with invitations to come and check us out. Many visitors join us every weekend, and growth is steady!

Our NCC Kids and Youth leaders are intentionally and consistently empowering kids and students week after week. Our growing NCC Missions efforts saw the highest engagement ever! And each of these have initiatives planned for this coming year that will continue to push us as a campus.

At Kingstowne this year, we have been recruiting our 6-12 graders to serve our younger kids. This is such a great way to mentor our older kids in leadership! We sponsor the Caring Mentors program at Hayfield Secondary School and helped it grow from 34 mentors during the 2018-2019 school year to 77 mentors during the 20192020 school year.

“I have been going to the Lincoln campus of NCC since before I considered myself a Christian. I found NCC through an assignment in a 12-step recovery program. We were supposed to “connect with our version of a higher power” and report back. I googled “churches and DC” and found NCC. Back in 2014 the balcony at NCC was rather empty and dark. It provided space for me to explore safely. NCC is a church where you can bring your whole self and you will be valued and celebrated.” —Jeremy
POTOM AC YAR D Pastor Jon Vaughan
Our NCC Kids team has been the highlight of the year for PY! More than 50 leaders and volunteers invest into the next generation within our campus community. The discipleship experience on Sunday mornings is fun, interactive, and practically empowers our kids to love their neighbors. We celebrated three of our elementary kids getting baptized this year!

B LU_PRI NT We are a sending church, and we’ve been waiting to see how God wants us to serve in Baltimore for a long time now. This past fall, we announced that God has called Pastor Joshua and Ericka Symonette to plant a church and launch a new ministry in Baltimore to disrupt the school-to-prison pipeline. Pastor Joshua will continue to serve on our teaching team, and their new ministry, Blu_Print Collective, is the newest expression of NCC.
