This Christmas 2017, we’ve gone naked and are offering a packaging-free alternative to every product in the collection for a waste-free Christmas. At a time of increased product packaging and dwindling resources, there’s a chance to offer balance by offering choice. Our customers always count on us to innovate and create dazzling products with the environment in mind. Going naked means more money can be dedicated to ethically sourcing beautiful raw materials and essential oils rather than excess packaging. When we can’t eliminate packaging completely, like in the case of gift boxes, we use only recycled, recyclable, reusable or compostable materials like our 100 percent post-consumer recycled plastic bottles, pots and biodegradable bags. Nothing is tested on animals and the whole collection is vegan. The collection is available online www.lush.co.nz on Tuesday 3 October and in stores nationwide from Thursday 5 October until Saturday 24 December.

If you’ve caught a glimpse of the naked shower gels you may find yourself asking how these differ from their packaged counterparts. Naked shower gel has a completely different formula to solid soap. They contain most of the same ingredients as their packaged versions with only a few ingredients that are different. The ingredient that makes them solid is sodium stearate. We use this ingredient in our naked deodorants as well and it thickens and helps harden the mix, eliminating the need for packaging. Propylene glycol has also been added to the naked shower gel formula, a humectant that will help to attract and retain moisture in the skin. It also reduces bacteria growth and has been added to make the naked shower gels self-preserving. Cosmetic scientist and product inventor Daniel Campbell explains: “Naked shower gels behave and function exactly like the liquid version, you can use either.” These funky little numbers hydrate when they hit the shower and lather up just like a shower gel.
