Second-half Groom goal lifts A&M past UTSA, 1-0 Michael Ayo
The Battalion he No. 12 Texas A&M women’s soccer team (1-1) split a pair of games on its opening weekend as it defeated the UT-San Antonio Roadrunners 1-0 Sunday night after falling to the No. 7 Duke Blue Devils 1-0 Friday evening. Sunday night, the Aggies took a scoreless tie into the second half of play, predominately controlling the ball throughout the first 45 minutes but failing to find the back of the net. During the first half, A&M got off 11 shots, three on goal, before the Roadrunners were able to get a shot of their own. Despite multiple chances, A&M was unable to convert its opportunities into goals and ended the half with 13 shots, three on goal, while UTSA got only two shots, none on goal. The second half started off similar to the first, as the Aggies controlled the ball in UTSA’s territory but were unable to score. With 11:33 left in the match, junior forward Shea Groom broke the tie, taking a down field pass from freshman defender Grace Wright — who was credited with the assist — and found the back of the net for Texas A&M’s first goal of the season. “[Shea] had a great goal,” said head coach G Guerrieri. “Great debut for [Wright]. She’s a soccer player. She’s very good at using her body and she set up that goal for us. I’m pleased with her performance.” Five minutes later, though, the match became heated when multiple failed attempts to

When he started comparing notes with his friend, Sagar Hemani, who was attending Missouri University at the time, and he found out Hemani was experiencing similar struggles, the two freshmen began to hatch out a business plan. Five years later, Wazirali and Hemani are cofounders of Dorm It Up, an online business

ell Howdy. Picking up this newspaper makes you awesome for two reasons.
Reason One: You are helping me keep my job, which is cool. Reason Two: You want to learn something new. (Or you just want crosswords and sudokus, in which case they’re on page six.) We work hard to produce this newspaper. We try our best to cover every aspect of this campus and present accurate information to keep you informed of Texas A&M and the people around it. Some days we do better than others, but what makes us unique is that we present information from a viewpoint no one else has — we’re students of Texas A&M University. As students of Texas A&M, it’s our responsibility to maintain the tradition of excellence that comes with this school’s prestigious reputation (i.e., don’t do dumb things) and learn and develop innovative ideas to better your life, this school and (cheesy but true) this place we call Earth. Side note: I like parentheses. Get off my back, writing profs. As you go through this semester I challenge you
to read everything. Read the news all day, seek the facts, form your own ideas, start conversations. Read a point of view you don’t agree with; learn something new. Remember to let us know what you’re up to. We look for stories everywhere but it’s always nice when they come to us. The Battalion is an easy resource to share your opinions with other students, faculty and staff — use it. Make your opinions known. Our door is always open, so come hang out with us. We can give you an opportunity to learn a new skill, or practice one you already have. We’re always in need of writers, photographers, artists, videographers and editors. Come say Howdy (yes, Howdy) at MSC Open House. I’ll probably be there all day. Help us make The Battalion better. Thanks and Gig ’Em. Following the completion of Texas A&M’s fall camp Thursday afternoon, redshirt freshman Matt Davis announced his intention to transfer from the program. Davis — who played an integral part in maintaining A&M’s 2012 recruiting class during the program’s coaching transition — fell to fourth in the quarterback depth chart behind junior Matt Joeckel and true freshman Kenny Hill following the completion of fall camp. Davis intends to enroll at Tyler Junior College, where he will compete this season, before the recruiting process begins anew with multiple programs expected to pursue the top-shelf quarterback.
