I am running for student body president because I believe I can adequately represent the student body for which I will be serving.
QUALIFICATIONS
PLATFORM
REPRESENTATION
If I am elected student body president, I think I can bring my experience from my time in the Corps and my time in the Air Force. Both of those are focused on leadership building exercises and I really believe the experiences, from those will comprehensively build my ability to serve the student body.
My campaign platform is based off of the three main points of inclusion, accountability and tradition... I want basically to improve the representative system that we have here at Texas A&M because students feel like it does not adequately represent the student body for which they are serving. Under accountability, specifically, I want to focus on Title IX. I am a big proponent of SASH [sexual assault and sexual harassment] — making sure that SASH cases are handled in an acceptable manner and justice is brought. … And under tradition, it starts with things like building and completing the funding of the Matthew Gaines statue.
I believe I can better represent the student body here at Texas A&M because I have been a person to reach out to every single organization. I care about every opinion, regardless of if they think it is insignificant — it is significant to me.

CROSS HISTORY JUNIOR
I feel like I’ve been called to this position because of the past leadership experience I have, and also the unique initiatives that I have, and people that have influenced me and the knowledge I’ve gained on those issues.
QUALIFICATIONS
PLATFORM
REPRESENTATION
One of the unique qualifications I have is I was a member of Legislative Relations and I’m currently the vice president of Legislative Relations. Having team management skills, I think, is paramount to be student body president. The student body president cannot be everywhere at once. However, the student body president needs to build great teams to focus on the initiatives that they feel like are important.
There are four parts of my campaign. First: the Matthew Gaines statue, second: transportation, third: open education resources, and fourth: traditions on campus.
One of the things that I’ve found when speaking to people is making sure that you hear other people’s voices when you speak — that you listen, but also bring other people’s ideas to the table. I’m only one person, but by meeting with individuals of different races, different classes, different walks of life, taking their stories and their experiences and helping share those at the table if I get that opportunity it is incredibly important to me.

I am running for student body president because of what Aggieland means to me. This place is my favorite place on Earth, and it would be an honor to serve all students and help push this community forward.
JIMENEZ SOCIOLOGY JUNIOR
I’m running for student body president because I feel that the position has been stagnant for several years and that it could really benefit from a new voice.
QUALIFICATIONS
QUALIFICATIONS
I think one of the biggest qualifications I have had is being able to be the Interfraternity Council president. To be a president of a group of about 2,000 people has been an absolute honor and it really taught me a lot about myself and how to lead and motivate others.
PLATFORM
I like to think of it as a vision and a platform. The vision is to simply create a true and unified voice for all Aggie students across all parts of campus. … With regards to policy, there are four main points I would like to hit on. First, I think we need to look at how to change traffic and transportation. I also think that we need to amend student rule seven. I think the Matthew Gaines statue needs to be funded, and I think we need more healthy dining options across all parts of campus.
REPRESENTATION
I think I can represent all students by first figuring out what all students want; by listening to all students and hearing their needs, we can then push this community forward.
H T I W LEAD E R O O M
CAROLINE “LIBBY”
MOORE POLITICAL SCIENCE JUNIOR
I believe that my experiences on campus in sharing Aggie stories and listening to Aggie stories has definitely helped me become passionate about serving the student body, and led me to my decision to become student body president.
QUALIFICATIONS
I’ve had experience with listening and trying to understand different issues on campus and different dangerous situations, whether it’s regarding student safety or just different opinions that students have on campus, and then trying to create solutions and act on those through my position in Traditions Council or Student Senate, and making sure that campus is a home for everyone.
PLATFORM
My campaign platform is cultivating a culture of respect and leadership. I want to make sure that Aggies are respecting other Aggies; that we all have a community here at Texas A&M. Leadership comes in that we’re going to make sure that everyone has an opportunity to become a leader both inside and outside of campus to succeed both inside and outside of campus.
REPRESENTATION
MISAEL
I’ll represent the student body just like I have now. I’m going to listen to all stories, especially those that are different from mine. I know not every Ag has the same story, and we all go through different issues on campus. So, just being an option for students to speak their truth and have their voice heard, and creating that relationship with students to then go create change on campus.
I represent a diverse portion of the Texas A&M student population, being a Latino, being queer and being part of a group of colleges that don’t often receive representation in these types of positions.
PLATFORM
My platform consists of making Texas A&M a more accessible institution for everybody who wants to attend it. I really believe that everybody who enters this university as a freshman should be able to come and leave here with a degree, and that the people who do enter here as a freshman would represent a more diverse group than they currently do.
REPRESENTATION
I think that it’s relatively difficult to capture the unique palette of Texas A&M as a single individual, even though I have a variety of experiences being a queer Latino activist on campus. I would attempt to gather people from as many colleges, as many ethnic groups and as many marginalized groups as possible in order to build that diverse and beautiful coalition that makes up Texas A&M.

I want to be a leader because I feel like I can give back to the student body, which has given so much to me. A lot of mentors have really poured into me and my time at A&M and making sure I understand what the Aggie Spirit is, and I want to pass it on to the next generation of Aggies.

Why do you want to be a yell leader? You know how as Aggies we have a saying to “pass it back,” but I also want to go another step and pay it forward – help unify our campus as regs and non-regs. We can just to do amazing things.

Why do you want to be a yell leader?
I think the biggest reason I want to be a senior yell leader is to have the ability to impact others and to share the love of the Aggie family. This last year, being a junior yell leader, I was blessed with the opportunity and just being able to have that impact on people and just be the face of Texas A&M, because it doesn’t matter who Karsten Lowe is, but any interaction I have, I am representing Texas A&M.
Favorite Aggie tradition? Silver Taps
Favorite thing to do in Aggieland? Go to the Chicken
If you could eat one thing for the rest of your life, what would it be? If it was one restaurant, I’d pick Whataburger because of the diversity of the menu. If we are going by sole food, the Chick-fil-A chicken sandwich.

REBOLLOSO
AGRICULTURAL LEADERSHIP AND DEVELOPMENT JUNIOR Why do you want to be a yell leader?
The main reason why I’m running for senior yell is actually to promote diversity within the university. These are individuals who aren’t only representatives of the university but ambassadors that go out on behalf of the university all over the United States. I feel that since A&M is becoming a Hispanic-serving institution – which means that the percentage of Hispanics is now 22 percent and soon to grow – I feel like the individuals who represent A&M should reflect what the university is becoming and what it promotes.

Favorite Aggie tradition? Why do you want to be a yell leader?
It is a position where you get to be a shining light and show love toward people and carry out the traditions – not something that we started, but a legacy that has been left over the past years. I think that makes it so special that yell leader is like a living legacy that has been around since 1907.

Why do you want to be a yell leader? I realized that it’s something that you can give back to the university by serving in this position, and A&M has given me so much that I thought, “You know what, I might as well try to give back.” And so I think this is the best way you can do that.
My favorite thing to do is walk to class and say “Howdy!”

I think that these guys have a platform that is held up by the 60,000 students that go here and that are behind them. Their five voices together can’t even come close to filling the stadium, but the 12th Man does it routinely every Saturday in the fall. If elected yell leader, I want to stand for respect, loyalty and integrity and I want to use my position to glorify God, who gave me the ability and the opportunity to try.

CLASS OF 2020 GIFT Before heading into their senior year, members of the Class of 2020 will choose a permanent legacy to leave on the Texas A&M campus. Previous class gifts include the mosaic seal in the Academic Building from the Class of 1978 and the Spirit of Bonfire sculptures from the Class of 1987. Other classes have used their gifts for the maintenance and improvement of existing campus landmarks and institutions. With $25,000 and five distinct gift options, it’s time for the Class of 2020 to decide how it will shape the future of Aggieland.
Opinion poll questions on the ballot
Luke Henkhaus — THE BATTALION
When Texas A&M joined the Southeastern Conference in 2012, we stopped playing the annual football game against the University of Texas at Austin due to fully booked non-conference schedules. Recently, however, administrators such as Chancellor Sharp and President Young have publicly stated that they are considering reestablishing the Texas A&M vs. UT football rivalry. To help them and the rest of our administration make an informed decision regarding whether or not to bring back the game, they should be given accurate feedback from the student body about student opinion surrounding this issue. To that end, Do you support reinstating the annual Texas A&M University vs. University of Texas at Austin rivalry game on our non-conference football schedule?
