Last call at Jilly’s is just a few days away. The strip club, located inside the former Broadview Hotel at Queen Street East and Broadview Avenue, is set to close up shop for good Saturday. The 55 or so staff members and dancers at Jilly’s Restaurant and Tavern, as it’s officially known, are bidding adieu to their patrons with a goodbye celebration that started Saturday, July 5. The comic book company, which initially refused the use of its logo on the monument created by famed Canadian sculptor Ruth Abernethy, granted approval Wednesday morning. “I’m really happy; it’s been a bit of teeter-totter,” said Ottawa resident Todd Boyce, a father of four, who was so touched by Jeffrey’s story he created a successful crowd-funding campaign to raise $25,000 to commission a permanent memorial of the east-end boy dressed in a Superman costume. “(DC) was feeling a lot of pressure from people lashing out at them,” he said, adding he had accepted the fact that the statue would bear a ‘J’ insignia instead of the iconic Superman ‘S’. Boyce said the story has gone viral across social media, and >>>jeffrey, page 11
