Build a sandcastle The Beaches Lodge No. 473 Freemasons hosts its eighth annual sandcastle building competition Sunday. The rain-or-shine event will take place just east of the Woodbine Bathing Station on the sand adjacent to the Beach boardwalk. Those interested in participating are welcome to come as early as they like. The Beaches Cup will be awarded to the team with the best sandcastle at 3 p.m. “In past years, students from nearby schools have had teams on the beach early competing against teams comprised from Freemasons lodges, numerous families, businesses and organizations from the area,” said area resident Graeme Boyce, the event’s organizer. “It’s a lot of fun and anyone wishing to compete merely shows up and starts digging and sculpting...” There is no entry fee. Proceeds from the events will be directed to The Mikey Network, an organization that works to create public awareness and provide education about heart healthy lifestyles and is committed to placing Automatic External Defibrillators in as many locations as possible so people affected by cardiac arrest might have a second chance at life. For details, contact Eric Boyce at eric.boyce@thebeacheslodge. com or 647-824-6454 or John Holmes at jholmes@tyco.ca or 416-659-7023.
