Putting the fizz into park renewal REBECCA FIELD rfield@insidetoronto.com Tommy Thomspon Park is getting a new look and it’s a whole lot greener thanks to a $500,000 donation by Coca-Cola Canada. Over the next five years, start-
ing early 2014, the company, along with Environment Canada, the Toronto Port Authority, and the City of Toronto, will be restoring the area in a project with the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA). The funding for the project
will be given in $100,000 installments over five years. “This great location behind me will be transformed from a stagnant marsh and abandoned disposal site into sustainable wetlands and will provide natural habitats and flowing freshwater while reducing pollution
in the area,” said Nicola Kettlitz, president of Coca-Cola Canada, Tuesday morning at the park during an event announcing their donation. The park, located on the Leslie Spit, is being used as a confined disposal facility for >>>tommy, page 18

A bylaw limiting the concentration of bars on Queen Street West in Parkdale, was not only unanimously passed by Toronto and East York Community Council (TEYCC), but a number of councillors praised the idea and said they want the same rules in their wards, including Toronto-Danforth Councillor Paula Fletcher. The Queen West Restaurant Study report was before community council on Tuesday. It outlines a number of amendments to the zoning bylaw with an aim to balance the interests of area residents and businesses and address concerns related to the ever increasing number of restaurants and bars, including some that function more like night clubs along Queen Street West between Roncesvalles Avenue and Dufferin Street.
