Kire Paputts and Colin Brunton are hoping a pot of gold will appear at the end of the rainbow they’re working to create. The east-end filmmakers, the same duo behind the Gerrard Street East short documentary series, have recently launched a crowdfunding campaign at Kickstarter.com to help pay for their latest project, a feature film called The Rainbow Kid – a dark and gritty coming-ofage story about a young man with Down syndrome who sets off on a crazy, life-changing adventure to find the pot of gold at the end of a rainbow. “(The Rainbow Kid) started off as a crazy idea I had one day about a kid with Down syndrome going off to find a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow,” said Paputts, who has volunteered for a few years now with Drama Way, an organization that offers creative classes to people with special needs. “The more I thought about it, the more it grew on me.” The film stars Scarborough resident Dylan Harman, playing the role of Eugene, who, while on his journey, encounters a host of larger-than-life characters including an alco>>>full-length, page 7
Woodbine Park will become a dog lover’s paradise the weekend of May 24 and 25 as Woofstock, North America’s largest festival for dogs, relocates to the Beach. The two-day, free outdoor dog festival and consumer expo is expected to draw upward of 300,000 people and 250 vendors/exhibitors. Woofstock was launched 11 years ago in the Distillery Historic District. Two years later, it moved to the St. Lawrence Market and is now setting up shop at Woodbine Park at the northeast corner of Lake Shore Boulevard East and Coxwell Avenue.
