Garden for seniors, kids at Eastview REbecca field rfield@insidetoronto.com An intergenerational garden to be used by children and seniors is being built at Eastview Neighbourhood Community Centre this week. The garden is being built in collaboration with the local Boys and Girls club and Evergreen Brick Works. It is part of a food program that will allow community members to grow food that will be used at the club, as well as donated to shelters. “It’s more like a learning garden and an opportunity for children and seniors to do some gardening that they wouldn’t normally get to do on their own,” said Laurette Jack, the children’s programming supervisor at the community centre. Seniors and children will get the chance to plant food, herbs and edible flowers, and tend to the garden throughout the summer. “The kids can do stuff for the seniors, and the seniors can teach kids about stuff that are in the garden,” said Jack who will be organizing programming surrounding the garden this summer, as well as a summer camp themed on the environment and the arts. “We’ve been going green for a while,” said Jack who pointed >>>eastview’s, page 10
