Thirteen billboard-sized images by Beach-based photographer Johan Hallberg-Campbell are set to grace the busy intersection of King and John streets during Toronto’s Nuit Blanche, which is set to run from 6:53 p.m. Saturday to sunrise Sunday. The powerful landscapes and portraits, printed on 8x 8 feet vinyl banners, aim to share the strength and spirit of the residents and vast scenery of Moose Cree and Attawapiskat First Nation communities in Northern Ontario. During the all-night celebration of contemporary art, Hallberg-Campbell’s Wisdom of the North photo essay will be located at eye level on one of Toronto’s busiest corners. “It’s bringing the North to one of the most urbanized parts of the country,” said Hallberg-Campbell, a full-time freelance photographer who has lived near Kingston Road and Woodbine Avenue for more than four years. “I’m excited to share my experiences with people who have never before experienced Northern Ontario’s First Nation >>>PHOTOGRAPHER, page 16
