DETAILS | Beautiful Bouquet

Beautiful Bouquet FLOWERS BY GIMI created this beautiful unstructured bouquet for a bride who wanted a natural looking bouquet that moved as she walked down the aisle. Senior florist Dustin Francisco used a selection of white and ivory coloured Garden Roses and Ranunculus, along with double Lisianthus and pale pink Astilbi flowers, and accented them with Italian Ruscus, Feathered Eucalyptus and local Asparagus Ferns. Finally it was tied with a white satin ribbon. “The client wanted the bouquet to have an unstructured garden feel which we achieved with a natural and loose combination of blooms,” said the florist. “Even the buttonholes were simply tied with a bit of satin ribbon, without any floral tape or wire, as if the flower had been picked and pinned on.”

Bermuda Blues With blue being the bride’s favourite colour, the palette was an easy choice for Scarlett who wed Troy in April at the Unfinished Church. “The pictures on the beach really exemplified the palette,” she said. “The mint colour with the grey suits was the right complement for the sand and ocean to make everything glow! We were in a variety of settings, from grass to beach to marble, and the two colours flowed throughout all the venues swimmingly.”

Blush & Black Pale blush pink contrasted with rich black accents added a touch of formality to this elegant summer beach wedding. “The colour palette really came together as a whole because of the natural backdrop of the beach, turquoise water and green grass that surrounds Mid Ocean Beach Club,” said bride Kate Dunmore. “While we were married on the beach, adding the touch of black elevated the feeling of the wedding and made it slightly more formal.”

It’s Suzan Sickling and my mother-in-law, Heather Brewer, who truly deserve all the credit for the beautiful bouquets—I showed them photographs of what I wanted and they did the rest.” Adding the perfect touch to their Bermuda wedding, Jill and Miles, along with their wedding party, climbed aboard their family boat and headed out to Hamilton Harbour to toast to wedded bliss. “So much of our lives is spent on the water, I wanted that to be incorporated into our day. worked closely with Suzan Sickling to create a tablescape that consisted of 22 different types of florals and greenery and 196 clear vases in 22 different styles. I created a tablescape plan noting each arrangement, vases and location. Lots of work but the result was epic!” Illustrations were adhered to the bride and groom’s chairs (pineapple for her and fox for him) to tie into the wedding suite and reception signage. “We worked with graphic design legend Christina Lehahan to create the perfect paper suite and signage. It needed to be elegant with a touch of masculinity. Font is a big part of our event design and she nailed it!” said Gitshner. “Christina also created coasters, featuring the couple’s fox illustration, which guests were welcome to take home as favours. It took a whopping four days for Gitshner and Strong and their team of vendors to set up for Logan and Kevin’s October wedding. When the couple arrived at their reception (by boat!) they were in awe. “I’ll never forget the look in Logan and Kevin’s eyes, especially the tears— the good kind!” says Gitshner. For Logan and Kevin, it was everything they dreamed of: “Everything came together perfectly. We wouldn’t have changed a thing!” says Logan. Guests of the couple enjoyed signature cocktails, appropriately named The Fizzy Fox and Old Spool Mule, and a seated dinner of organic chicken and local fish before cutting into the stunning orange chiffon cake created by Paula Hayward of Sweet P. After dinner, guests danced on a custom dance floor (featuring the couple’s nicknames: Keve and Lo) to the sounds of Working Title well into the early morning hours, nourished by late-night treats like mini chicken and waffles, sliders, truffle fries and popcorn. Looking back, Logan and Kevin say that and more, crediting Gitshner and Strong for incorporating their wants and needs and allowing them to be stress-free in the lead-up to their big day. Logan’s one piece of advice for couples getAbove: One of the most popular elements of décor was the “Love Ball” guest book that Logan’s sister, Lindsay Butterfield sourced on a buying trip. “She knew it was the perfect detail for Logan and Kevin’s wedding. aving grown up in Trinidad and Tobago, Sparkle Sooknanan dreamed of getting married with her toes in the sand and when fiancé Ryan

Downer proposed, they jetted to Bermuda to plan their special day. The now-wedded couple met through a mutual friend in New York City and got engaged under the Manhattan Bridge. Despite their big-city living, “We wanted to be married outside, on the beach,” said Sparkle. “We visited Bermuda and fell in love with the beaches, the pink sand and the people. We knew from our first visit that the property at Rosewood Tucker’s Point was the perfect location for a fairy-tale wedding.” The couple set about planning their destination Bermuda wedding with the help of Kathleen Dodwell of Bermuda Event Solutions, calling her their “most valuable resource.” “Our wedding planner, Kathleen, was absolutely terrific. We met her when we visited Bermuda to look at wedding venues. We loved her and hired her immediately. From start to finish, she was amazing. She listened to everything we wanted, was incredibly responsive during the planning process, and found us the most wonderful vendors. On the day of the wedding, rain was threatening. She kept us calm, quickly switched some plans, and the result was a perfect day. Every single one of our 95 guests commented that it was the best wedding they had ever attended. Hiring Kathleen was the best decision we made.” With 95 family members and friends in attendance (all from abroad!), Sparkle and Ryan tied the knot on November 19, 2016, with their toes in the sand. “On the day of the wedding, rain was looming but we decided to stick with our beach location. For a couple brief moments, it started raining. The bridal party quickly opened umbrellas and everything continued without interruption. Nothing could ruin that moment and the rain quickly passed. Then a beautiful rainbow emerged. It

For more information on fees associated with civil marriage ceremonies, to apply for a marriage licence and to download the application form, please visit: www.gov.bm/content/apply-marriage-licence or call the Registry General office at 441-297-7709 or 441-297-7707. Copies of final divorce decrees or death certificates, if applicable, must also be included with the application. If sending the documents by post, address your application to Registrar General, Government Administration Building, 30 Parliament Street, Hamilton, HM 12, Bermuda. It will take about 15 days for your wedding licence to be issued, and it will be valid for three months. You or a designated person may pick up this licence at the registrar’s office. Within one month of your wedding, you will receive an official marriage certificate that is recognised and legal world-wide. Obtain written permission from the owner or occupier of the venue, that is, WEDCO or the Department of Parks. Finally, notify the registrar of the selected wedding date. The Registry General staff will confirm the time of the ceremony. In addition, the couple is responsible for arranging the logistics of set-up and any other features of the wedding. The Registry General will only be responsible for providing a table, chair and relevant documents for signature. In the event of inclement weather that prohibits an outdoor wedding, the alternate venue for the marriage will be the Registry General. In such cases, the marriage ceremony fee will be reduced to $245, which is the fee applicable to marriages conducted within the Registry General office.

The weather was also absolutely brilliant juxtaposed with the horrific weather the night before.” “Everything ran so smoothly and the ceremony was quite short, which was a bonus because the sun was beating down fiercely,” added David. Once the show began everything went quickly, said the groom, and before they knew it the couple and their guests were on the way to their early afternoon brunch reception at The Reefs. Using a coral, gold and white colour scheme—“We were going for a simple but classic theme, as that mirrors our personality as a couple,” said the bride—the Ocean Echo dining room was transformed thanks to Class Act Designs and Flowers by GiMi. “We had a brunch reception with every dish and dainty that you could have imagined! It was elegant, simple and laid-back—all the things we aspired for it to be,” said Natasha. But it was not without a few surprises and a little hilarity. “I wrote a poem for David that he knew nothing about and presented it to everyone immediately after the toasts were shared,” said the bride. “Needless to say, he had no words! THE FACE OF Wedding Photography GAVIN HOWARTH

S

ince 2006, local photographer Gavin Howarth has been capturing the moment when husbands and wives unite in wedded bliss. With almost 250 weddings under his belt,

it’s safe to say the highly sought-after photographer is an expert in capturing the biggest day of his clients’ lives. “Experience and intuition play a huge role when working. The working knowledge of Bermuda, its infinitely changeable weather, and the many other aspects of a typical wedding day mean no two weddings are ever the same,” says Howarth. And it’s his unrivaled experience and his desire to seek out the most idyllic settings for his couples that make Howarth the best in his field. For Howarth, the process—from the initial meeting between himself and the engaged couple to the delivery of their wedding photos—is a long but enjoyable one and one in which he takes great pride, making sure every detail is as it should be. “Final delivery is always the proudest moment. It’s a long process and starts with getting to know each client. You end up walking away from the wedding day exhausted having given it your all and that is when the real work begins. Taking the large volume of images and working through them, polishing each and whittling down to a final set is extremely rewarding. Capturing such important memories for my clients is something I am privileged to be able to do.” As a full-service wedding photographer, Howarth is available for any length of coverage although he mostly photographs larger weddings of four hours or longer. He also offers an array of wedding-related products, from albums to prints and many other popular items which can be ordered through his modern, web-based client portal. When it comes to forging relationships with his clients, Howarth says, the most important aspect is trust: “Trust is essential; my clients able to let go and enjoy the day to its fullest. “To reserve my services, clients would need to sign an agreement and pay a retainer

We not only sell you the wedding gown of your dreams, we can personalise it with our team of skilled tailors. Hill and her team of six employees work tirelessly to create, alter and custom-fit gowns of all shapes, sizes and styles for Bermuda brides, while also carrying several lines of high-quality ready-to-wear gowns. But it’s not just Hill’s gowns and design work that keep her customers coming back for more, it’s the friendly and relaxed atmosphere of her studio and her ability to forge positive relationships with her clients. “Often when our customers walk through the door, they are first-time clients but after several fittings, we become quite close, sharing giggles along the way.” Looking towards the future, Hill hopes to offer a “New to You” service, which focuses on giving used gowns new life. “Many brides sell their wedding gowns after their big day is done and we’re PHOTOGRAPH BY TWO & QUARTER

orphing wedding dreams into perfectly curated reality is ultra-creative duo Selange Gitschner and Matthew Strong of Dasfete, a full-service event

planning and styling business offering clients everything from design and production, creative direction, décor sourcing, space planning and logistics, styling, photo shoot direction, consulting and more. Founder and creative director Selange is a certified interior designer, specialising in environmental and sustainable design. She joined the events and marketing industry in 2005, building a tremendous reputation for delivering creative and unique events, which led her to launch Dasfete in 2015 with partner and production director Matthew Strong. “Matthew and I are a great team,” says Selange. “I prepare a design brief with inspiration, images and layouts. Then we meet with the client and review the design. From there, we start working on the production and custom installations. We don’t follow a standard formula; instead, each event is designed and produced around its individual concept.” Imperative to creating a perfect event is knowing their clients, so says Selange. “We spend a lot of time getting to know our clients. Every couple is unique so we are always looking to customise every aspect of an event specifically for each client. Getting to know our clients and producing something that is beyond what they thought was possible is what makes this process so rewarding.” Known for their out-of-this-world custom designed bars, tables, light fixtures, hanging installations and stylised tablescapes, the creative duo say that collaborating with other experts in the industry is not only important, it’s a way of celebrating diversity and kicking creativity up a notch! “We love working with local vendors Selange, who works with vendors like Suzan Sickling, Gosling’s, MEF, Great Sound, Undercover Tents, Twisted Spoon Cocktail Co. ermudian artist Alexandra Mosher is a model of local success. Taking inspiration from the island’s natural flora and fauna, Mosher launched her jewellery design

business in 2004, offering sculptural jewellery for romantics who want to take a piece of Bermuda with them everywhere they go. With a background in jewellery design, wax carving and fabrication, Mosher expertly hand-sculpts her designs in wax before casting them in metal. Her team of 20 Bermudian women finishes the pieces in the Front Street studio, adding Mosher’s signature touch of pink sand. “I’ve recently started playing with Bermuda textured pieces in 14K gold,” says Mosher. “I’m particularly proud of my technique for the fine jewellery collection; it’s an elegant way of wearing organic elements of Bermuda’s beauty in textures, like The Unfinished Church, Southampton Sea Urchin and Longtail Feathers.” One of her many accomplishments, including Best of Bermuda awards too numerous to count, is a nod from the Bermuda Tourism Authority. “We are one of the first companies in Bermuda to receive a National Service Standards certification from the BTA,” says Mosher. The accolade dubs Alexandra Mosher Studio Jewellery as an impactful, diverse and unique business, delivering a consistent standard of product and customer service. Indeed, Mosher prides herself on her brand’s customer service, saying that helping her clients find the perfect piece is always a delightful experience. “We engage with our customers like they are new friends,” says Mosher. “If they’re visiting, we pride ourselves on being their Bermuda tourism ambassadors. We love our local friends too, who check back in to see what we’re sculpting each season.

WEDDING ALBUM

RICAI WILLIAMS & DAYSHALAE SMITH June 15, 2017 Our wedding was a traditional Bermudian wedding. We loved that it was on a Thursday afternoon, my dress was lace with a stunning veil and train, and the men wore coral Bermuda shorts. The bridesmaids matched the men perfectly in their coral summer dresses. But overall, The Unfinished Church along with the string trio was absolutely breathtaking as we all walked down the aisle. We topped it off in Bermudian style with a romantic traditional horse and buggy ride to our photo shoot destination where our Old Fashioned car then met us to take us to Pier 6 for the reception. Our traditional wedding was definitely more beautiful and perfect than we ever imagined. Photographers Gary Williams & Graham Mocklow

CELINA ARAUJO & ALLEN FERREIRA May 6, 2017 Our wedding was an intimate one with about 125 guests at the cathedral at St. Theresa’s followed by a reception at Elbow Beach Hotel. The day was just perfect—a bit of wind but no rain—and everything turned out just as we had imagined. With wonderful support from our family and friend and amazing services all around, it was the best day of our lives thus far! Photographer: Gavin Howarth

CHARANN WOOLRIDGE & KHALID MUHMMAD November 5, 2016 Our wedding day was everything we wanted. Although it rained most of the day, it seemed like everything stopped the moment it was time for my wife to be to walk down the aisle. It was as if God was smiling as we met each other at the altar. Through all the typical wedding blunders, the only thing that mattered was the fact that our future would begin when we said, “I do.” Our wedding day was not perfect, but that’s what made it so beautiful, and we wouldn’t change a moment of it. JENNIFER CARRA & SPENCER BOYER October 26, 2016 We are from Somers, Connecticut and we planned our destination wedding, which was held at The Reefs, in only 60 days! Seventy of our closest friends and family were able to come to Bermuda to share in our special day. Also, I took my mother’s original wedding dress from over 30 years ago and created my dress out of hers. It honestly could not have been more perfect. We both truly fell in love with Bermuda and so did all of our guests! Photographer: Donovin Seymour Photography

JOANNA DOVE & DEREK MAKI October 15, 2017 I grew up in Bermuda, and Derek and I were married on October 15, 2017, which proved to be a particularly memorable weekend as it was only two days after Hurricane Nicole directly hit the island! As we rode out the hurricane we had no idea what the extent of the damage would be, if the wedding would even happen, or if our guests would be able to arrive. In true resilient Bermudian form, everyone involved in the wedding did everything they possibly could to ensure we still had the special day we had envisioned. It was truly amazing how everyone from our wedding planner to the florist, caterers (Buzz for a cocktail party and Beau Rivage for the rehearsal dinner) Mid Ocean staff, the Reverend at the Unfinished Church, cake baker, local hotels(and many more) took it all in stride to pull off the day without a hitch. The weather was absolutely perfect on the day, and the island looked incredible; you couldn’t even tell there had been a hurricane, and, most importantly, everyone was ready to party! It was an amazing day we will certainly never forget, and I don’t think anywhere but Bermuda could have pulled it off so seamlessly. Photographer: Gavin Howarth

VANESSA LOPES & STEPHEN CHENEY December 31, 2016 It was an intimate ceremony filled with laughter and happy tears. We incorporated Bermudian tradition and added a touch of Disney magic (hidden Mickey) pins. After the ceremony we took our guests on a train ride back up to Rosewood Tucker’s Point for dinner and pre-New Years Eve festivities and then off to watch the fireworks over the sound! Two & Quarter were so phenomenal and were more like family photographing us. Heidi and the entire team from Rosewood was absolutely flawless and of course so was my incredible wedding planner, Katie Trimingham from All the Trimmings. Bermuda is truly magical and offers something to brides and grooms that no other island does: its people and its stunning backdrop. Photographer: Two & Quarter www.bermudianweddings.com
