Adult Day Care An adult day care center is a non-residential facility providing supervised activities for elderly and/or handicapped persons. Most adult day centers operate 10 to 12 hours per week day and provide meals, social/recreational outings, and general supervision. Some facilities provide reminders for taking medications, protect the client from wandering away that could result in serious injury or death, decrease the feeling of loneliness and depression, provide a supervised environment which gives the caregiver/family peace of mind, and provide a needed break in care giving. Hospice Care Services Hospice is a method of caring for the terminally ill that helps provide comfort and support to patients and family members when an illness no longer responds to cure-oriented treatments. Hospice neither prolongs life nor hastens death. The primary goal is to improve the quality of a patient’s last days. Hospice care can be provided in the home, hospice facility, nursing home, or hospital. Medical, social, spiritual, and counseling services can all be part of hospice care. Medicare and many private health insurance programs cover hospice care but require specific patient eligibility, including certification by a physician that the patient is terminally ill with 6 months or less to live based on knowledge about the normal course of the illness.
