Adult Day Care An adult day care center is a non-residential facility providing supervised activities for elderly and/or handicapped persons. Most adult day centers operate 10 to 12 hours per week day and provide meals, social/recreational outings, and general supervision. Some facilities provide reminders for taking medications, protect the client from wandering away that could result in serious injury or death, decrease the feeling of loneliness and depression, provide a supervised environment which gives the caregiver/family peace of mind, and provide a needed break in care giving.

In addition to skilled nursing services and certified nursing assistant services, the nursing home resident can also receive physical, occupational, speech, and other rehabilitative therapies following an accident or illness. Nursing homes that participate in the Medicare and Medicaid programs are subject to federal requirements regarding staffing and quality of care for residents. Medicare covers nursing home services for 20 to 100 days for beneficiaries who require skilled nursing care or rehabilitation services following a hospitalization of at least three consecutive days.

In addition to rehabilitation services, this location also features the Outpatient Dialysis Department.

Senior Apartments Senior apartments are usually age-restricted 55+ or 62+ and follow HUD regulations which allow for such “age discrimination”. If 55+, at least one person in the apartment must be at least 55 and the community must have no more than 20% of all residents under age 55. If 62+, all residents must be at least 62. Exceptions are made by HUD for younger renters if they are handicapped.
