Hospice Care Services Hospice is a method of caring for the terminally ill that provides comfort and support to patients and their family members when an illness no longer responds to cure-oriented
treatments. Hospice neither prolongs life nor hastens death. The primary goal is to improve the quality of a patient’s last days. Hospice care can be provided in the home, hospice facility, nursing home, or hospital. Medical, social, spiritual, and counseling services can all be part of hospice care. Medicare and many private health insurance programs cover hospice care but require specific patient eligibility, including certification by a physician that the patient is terminally ill with 6 months or less to live based on knowledge about the specific illness.
