Land Rover Floors Castle Horse Trials
Friday 11th, Saturday 12th and Sunday 13th May, 2018
Programme ÂŁ4.00
Welcome from the Duke of Roxburghe It gives me great pleasure again to be welcoming all the riders to the Floors Castle Horse Trials. This year we are delighted to welcome Land Rover as Title Sponsors for what is now the Land Rover Floors Castle Horse Trials. We feel very privileged to be associated with the Title Sponsor at both Burghley and Kentucky Horse Trials. Thanks to the loyal support of all our sponsors we are again able to offer a superb level of prize money across all classes, which is, I know, greatly appreciated by all the competitors and a huge thank you to all those who have driven long distances to come and support us. Angus Smales has continued to make a few small but important changes to the course, and this year includes the cannon fences which all classes will jump by the memorial to King James II of Scotland who was killed trying to recapture Roxburgh Castle from the English in 1460. My best wishes to all the competitors in all the classes both eventing and non-eventing for a successful and safe event.

Sponsors of the Burghley Young Event Horse Series 32
DUBARRY BURGHLEY YOUNG EVENT HORSE SERIES This hugely popular competition has been integral to Burghley Horse Trials for over 30 years and is still acknowledged as the shop window to view potential ‘four star’ horses at an early age. Open to four and five year olds, the aim of the Series is to encourage breeders and trainers to produce and present the type of young horse which will be considered to be the best material to make a world class three day event horse. The judges look for an athletic, loose moving horse with a promising jumping technique and attitude which, with correct training and production, will develop physically and mentally into a strong three day eventer. The winner is that with the highest overall marks from four sections: Section I
Dressage
Marked out of 30
Section II
Jumping up to 0.90m for 4 year olds and up to 1.05m for 5 year olds
Marked out of 40
Section III
Conformation (12 marks) & Quality (8 marks)
Marked out of 20
Section IV
Suitability & Potential
1-10 marks
Dressage: each horse performs a simple dressage test to demonstrate obedience, suppleness and, good elastic and regular gaits. Marks are not awarded for individual movements. Jumping: follows immediately after the dressage. Judges are looking for a bold athletic horse with good technique. A horse should not necessarily be penalised for knocking down one fence (or even a four year old having one refusal), providing he learns from his mistake. However, a fall of horse or rider or three cumulative refusals will result in elimination. Conformation and Quality: assessed in hand. The horses’ build and type should enable them to withstand the demands of the sport in terms of soundness, speed and stamina. Suitability and Potential: the top ten highest scoring horses from sections I – III are invited to come into the Ring to be assessed on potential quality for international competition. The horses are brought into line in the order that the judge sees their potential. Ten marks will be awarded to the horse that the judge selects first, 9 to the second, 8 to the third, etc down to 1 mark to the tenth horse. These marks are added to those from the previous 3 sections to establish the winner One horse per 15 starters at today’s event will qualify for the Dubarry Burghley Young Event Horse Finals which take place at the Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials on Friday, 31 August. For further information on Land Rover Burghley Horse Trials including admission prices for spectators and advanced bookings see www.burghley-horse.co.uk.

Whether you’re looking to make the perfect oven chips or a creamy dauphinois, an Albert Bartlett potato is always your best bet. Grown to the highest standards for the best possible taste, you’ll find an Albert Bartlett potato to suit every recipe. As a family-run business, we’ve been growing potatoes for over 60 years and are now the UK’s leading supplier of fresh potatoes, so you could say we show pretty good form too.

from the Organising Committee of Land Rover Floors Castle International Horse Trials.
We are hugely indebted to all our volunteer helpers, who give generously of their time before, during and after the event. We greatly appreciate all our starters, controllers, scorers and score collectors, jump judges, stewards, writers, time keepers, caterers and roles too many to list. Without your support we simply could not run this event. 135
