Welcome to the Clayesmore Classic & Supercar
Sunday, 2023!
We are thrilled to have you with us today and to share this magnificent display of classic beauties and slick supers! There is lots to see and do this year and we wish you all a great day.
How it all began...
The inaugural Clayesmore Classic & Supercar Sunday event took place last year as a collaboration with Zander Miller (2022, Manor) – a former student of Clayesmore. Zander, a phenomenal young entrepreneur, set up South Coast Supercar Club during lockdown, and over a very short time, built a large community of like-minded owners. Zander’s vision, tenacity and boundless energy for the supercar world rippled through the school, and it inspired everyone at Clayesmore to join forces to create this very special event at this very beautiful location. Here we are today!

From the new elegant lines and aggressive grille that give it an unapologetic presence, to the raised centre console that holds you in the heart of the car –DB12 reaches new heights of driver connection, performance and dynamic supremacy. This is no mere GT.

The feud between Henry Ford and Enzo Ferrari was sparked in the 1960s when Ford sought to acquire Ferrari, but Enzo Ferrari abruptly backed out of the deal, leaving Ford executives feeling humiliated. Determined to prove Ford’s superiority, Henry Ford II initiated the development of the first Ford GT, the GT40, to challenge Ferrari’s dominance in sports car racing. The GT40 went on to achieve a historic victory at the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 1966, marking a significant blow to Ferrari’s legacy and solidifying Ford’s reputation as a fierce competitor. In the modern era the rivalry still resonates, inspiring the creation of the new Ford GT. Introduced in 2016, it pays homage to the legendary GT40 and continues the legacy of challenging supercar manufacturers on the racetrack. With cutting-edge technology and exceptional performance, the new Ford GT serves as a symbol of Ford’s determination to compete with the best in the high-performance sports car market, perpetuating the historic feud between these automotive giants.

NOW FOR SOMETHING A LITTLE BIT DIFFERENT...
This vintage aluminum Saro Terrapin Speedboat was built by the renowned WWII aircraft builders Saunders & Roe. In 1952, Saunders & Roe merged with A.V. Roe and Company (Avro – famous for building the Lancaster bombers) to form Saunders-Roe Ltd. The merger brought together two prominent British aviation companies, each with its own expertise and history in aircraft manufacturing.
These speedboats were constructed in the 50s and 60s in the same manner, utilising their experience in building aircraft. At 13’ 6”, the Saro Terrapin is a light, fast and elegant speedboat seating four people comfortably. In this case, it is coupled with a 1960 35hp Mercury outboard engine enabling the boat to be propelled to 30 knots plus. This particular boat has been lovingly restored, incorporating modern materials while celebrating the expertise of our aircraft industry during the war years – and, for that matter, thereafter.
The owner is Old Clayesmorian Netti Blume, who was part of the first group to move into King’s House as it was built, and later became Head of House. Netti lived abroad before coming to Clayesmore and arrived in the Summer term of 1983 to take her A levels.
AS SEEN IN THE MAN FROM U.N.C.L.E.
When the directors of the Man From U.N.C.L.E wanted an iconic motorcycle for Kuryakin there was only one choice – a Métisse.
Based upon the race-winning pedigree of the Mk3 Métisse Scrambler, this Métisse Hammer motorcycle has been adapted to the film's requirements. The iconic looks of the Mk3 Metisse are enhanced by subtle design changes, to the front headlight and heatshields on the twin exhausts, for instance.
Armie Hammer rode the Metisse Hammer during filming and was so impressed he now owns and rides one in the States. The Métisse Hammer is being produced in a limited batch of 300, with each motorcycle guaranteed for its exclusivity with a prized Certificate of Authentication. Come and see it in front of the Owners Enclosure!
ASTON MARTIN VIRAGE VOLANTE WIDEBODY 1995
This is an exceptional, rare and significant car that comes with great provenance. This particular Aston Martin Virage Volante factory Widebody was first owned and registered by Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd themselves, with their own factory display plate ‘AM V8’.
Aston Martin Works have confirmed in writing that this car was first owned by Aston Martin Lagonda Ltd – presumably for marketing and display purposes, given that internal invoices on file for valeting are charged out to the Marketing Department!
We know the registration mark ‘AM V8’ was used at the time for factory ‘showcase’ demonstrators at various European motor shows; this car was used to showcase the new factory Widebody specification that was available for a further cost of in the region of £60,000. Owners of these cars could return their cars to the factory for this very special upgrade – but naturally it is the genuine factory original Widebody cars that are the more desirable and valuable. Only 26 factory-built Widebody cars were ever produced; further provenance for this car is that it is the first vehicle built with the improved specification, shown in the parts manual where this car, chassis number 60193, is referred to at the top of some pages as the starting point of where specification changed. This Aston Martin Virage Volante is finished in its correct colour of British Racing Green and the body and paintwork are presented in beautiful condition. The original green-piped parchment leather is stunning, as expected with such a low mileage. It's no surprise the car has won some recent show events with its last owner. The black mohair hood is in excellent order and this fantastic factory car has enormous presence with its detailed engine bay and remarkably clean underbody. There is no doubt this is a car for the discerning buyer/collector. Our Virage Volante 6.3 Cosmetic is truly outstanding in every respect and on the road the car is ... sensational, with impressive performance, acceleration and handling and real quality, luxury and comfort. This is a very special car to own.
In July 2023, at the prestigious British Classic Car Meet (BCCM) in St Moritz this car won the BCCM St Moritz Cup for the longest journey in its classic car range.
