School began, together and in-person, for our 1,366 students and 300 faculty and staff.
AUGUST LearningWorks 2021-22 school year program kicked off with 27 Blake students, one Blake alum and four LearningWorks graduates serving as teaching faculty. This year’s classes focused on digital literacy and citizenship, along with writing, speaking and job search skills.
SEPTEMBER
Homecoming and Reunion 2021 brought together alumni, current families, faculty, staff and friends who participated in fun events throughout the weekend. The reunion edition of Breakfast at Blake featured Outstanding Alumnus of the Year and President of Moderna Stephen Hoge ’94.

Lower School students welcomed grand friends on campuses to enjoy a half-day of learning together.

Upper School students in Advanced Drawing, taught by Bill Colburn ’88, took part in a project called “Art as Gift.” Drawing students forged relationships with Learning in Style School’s adult learners, swapped stories and, over four sessions, drew portraits of their new friends.
Third graders researched plants and animals and wrote a collaborative ebook about biomes, bird beak simulations and cacti dissection. They also created shoebox dioramas featuring clay animals they sculpted themselves.

“The skating unit is always a fun time to see kids improve their skills,” says physical education teacher Charlie Cracraft, “while also getting to play some tag games on the ice.” Ice skating is a favorite Lower School PE unit.
The girls’ and boys’ fencing teams and the boys’ swim and dive team took first place in their respective state meets.
APRIL
Over 300 community members proved we are better together by making gifts to the Blake Fund during Giving Week, exceeding the school’s goal and unlocking a $50,000 gift from a generous donor.
Eighth graders in Erica Boulay-Ali’s and Rachel Godlewski’s English classes took part in a Poetry Out Loud unit, culminating with a performance in the MacMillan Performing Arts Center for an all-Middle School audience.

Fifth and eighth graders celebrated their final day as Lower and Middle School students during closing ceremonies held on Blake and Highcroft campuses. Senior commencement recognized and honored the class of 2022 before they moved on to their next chapter.
