BMF launches national Youth Recruitment Campaign Young people are the lifeblood of any industry and many young people leaving school - and their careers advisors - often overlook the range of rewarding career opportunities offered by builders, timber, and plumbing and heating merchants and their suppliers. To educate, inform and encourage young people into our industry, the BMF has launched a national youth recruitment campaign this month aimed at 16-19 year olds. The campaign is designed to make teachers, careers advisors and job centres aware of the many rewarding, diverse and challenging opportunities offered by our industry and to encourage them to actively promote merchanting as a career choice. Posters and brochures have been sent to 750 job centres and over 7,500 schools, colleges and academies to coincide with the start of the new school year. Further information is available on a dedicated website www.merchant-recruitment.co.uk and there is also a Facebook page at merchant recruitment and Twitter page @BMF_Youth You can help us too in our promotion! All members will be receiving a pack of the material, extra copies of which can be obtained from june.upton@bmf.org.uk
You can also personalise the promotional material with your own company logo and address to send out locally, details and costs of which can be obtained by contacting chris.harding@bmf.org.uk We are inviting students to a BMF Recruitment Open Day at our Coventry Headquarters on 21 October, where school leavers and job applicants will have the opportunity to talk to merchants, suppliers, trainers and past apprentices to find out what a career in merchanting involves. We have some 30 stands available to book at a cost of just £95.00 for the day and you can contact june.upton@bmf.org.uk to book.
John Newcomb said: “Attracting young, talented people is absolutely vital if our industry is going to thrive and develop in the future. Our campaign will promote the tremendous opportunities available to them. It will also ensure that careers advisors understand our apprenticeship scheme and the sound foundation this provides for progressive vocational training including a diploma, a foundation degree and post graduate diploma leading to a master’s degree.” Contact Peter.Matthews@bmf.org.uk for further information.
