“These three summer exhibitions represent a wealth of talent, nourished by the scents, sounds and sights of Scilly, culminating in this vibrant and passionate outpouring. A sepia and golden sunset is brought to life with the skill of a deftly used palette knife. The boiling swell of the Atlantic Ocean held static for a moment, wild spray and foam in limbo. The stillness of a secret bay drenched in blinding light for a split second

The Artists
Neil Pinkett In these testing times, it’s a privilege to come here to just paint. Those little tubes of water that run onto the sand massage the spirit, the gentle familiar landscape is cosseting and soothing. A wonderful place.
Ian Shearman This collection is from my second visit to the Isles of Scilly. The challenging weather conditions and the alternating nature of the sea were the focus of my work. I was particularly captivated by the depth of colour and varieties of texture within the landscape. The strengths of the winds and rapidly changing light made working outside an exciting challenge.
Rosemary Trestini Tresco remains an inspiration. I usually spend the first two days of my spells there simply soaking up the atmosphere; sketching, taking photographs, absorbing the peace the light and the enduring beauty of its scenery. But it is the sounds of Tresco which are as important as its sights. After a couple of days the noise and confusion of the outside world are washed away by that serenity.
David Rust I so enjoy the Scillies and I hope my work this year describes my feelings and enthusiasm for painting these beautifully unique islands.
Ellen Watson I came across this quote by Paul Gardner the other day, “A painting is never finished – it simply stops at interesting places.” I am still learning when to stop.
Paul Lewin Through bright sunshine and fierce storms Tresco has again revealed its peculiar beauty, a place of both refuge and confrontation. Although my time on the island is relatively short I always manage an intense period of creativity that feeds my painting throughout the year.
Imogen Bone This year I have experience living and working away from the islands which has greatly influenced the paintings. It is a welcome sight to come back to the crystal clear colours that Scilly has, even in the most adverse of weather there is a clarity here that is reassuring.
Anthony Garratt There is so much wrapped up in a memory of Tresco. When I sit in the studio and try to re-imagine my time on the island, I can immediately hear the sound of the bracken and hollow soil underfoot as I trudge towards the North End; visualise the enormous tumbling clouds; imagine the incessant thump of the Atlantic hitting the island and the calm lapping of the shoreline on the white sandy beaches. It is an overwhelmingly sensory experience and one which deserves some energetic painting.
Maggie O’Brien This was my first visit to Tresco in the depth of winter. I loved it. The emptiness of the island, aqua-grey seas, just the calling of the birds and the lap of the tide for company. I was lucky. Four days of cold, bright winter sunshine when I sat, wrapped up on the beach and painted, blowing on my fingers and wrestling with the blowing sand. For a further three of rain I hunkered down in the cottage and worked from memory and imagination, snug inside while the wind howled. Not just a great painting trip but a magical, restorative experience.
