13 years ago I made a series of drawings of the 24 hour queue of asylum seekers and economic migrants outside the Home Office Nationality Directorate in Croydon. 13 years later the people are different but the problems are the same - thousands of people trying to gain access to another country to improve, and in many cases, save, their lives. Recent world conflict has forced people to take huge risks and live in abject circumstance to escape war. By showing a new series of paintings inspired by the refugee crisis alongside the original Home Office drawings I hope to emphasise how little has changed in the way society views and handles human displacement.
