Sharm Winter

Season Opens Sharm El Sheikh is definitely the nearest winter resort to Europe, where the sun shines 360 days a year every year.

Sharm shall be geared to welcome the winter season’s tourists with open arms so as to give them an unforgetable holiday.

It is left to us Sharmers to benefit of this season especially that it includes important holidays such as Eid El Adha, Christmas, New Year and Eid El Milad (Egyptian Christmas) and Russian Christmas.

We should expect tourists from the neighbouring countries in the Middle East and Europe (especially Russia) and local tourism from Cairo, Alexandria and other major cities.

One should not miss the opportunity as the winter season usually attracts a different class of tourists and the fact that they are also coming to celebrate a special occasion.

Tourists tend to spend more, but we have to make available events they would enjoy and be left with happy memories for them to think of Sharm for years to come.

Let us have again fireworks decorating the midnight sky on New Year’s Eve. Let us create the atmosphere by decorating the city, the hotels, shops, cafes and restaurants and welcome whole heartedly our guests to make them keep the best memories, so that they become our best ambassadors in their own countries and communities.

Sharm has just won the first prize as the best diving destination while the diving and snorkelling activities are not policed or organized as they should.

We were under the impression that the governing body of the diving centres controls the activities of its members and applies standards for their operations, but it does not seem to be the case.

The boats lack basic safety requirements, trained staff on first aid and life saving techniques, first aid equipment and supplies.

Boats and diving centres must have public liability insurance policies clearly displayed on boat decks and diving centres offices.

Diving

In the last eight months that is since the popular uprising, we behaved as if there is no law and order. Because of the recklessness in our behaviour, whether overland or at sea, the lives and well being of others is not our concern.

We call on the Ministry of Tourism & local government to be more vigilant & check all dive centres to comply with the rules & regulations, especially their staff training & the boats they use should be piloted by experienced licensed captains & not deck hands.

One last point to close, our guests are our responsibility.

We have to make them know and feel so. A happy satisfied guest is our best propaganda ambassador abroad.
