Framework plan includes campus renovations

Giving Tuesday donations nearly double

Administrators are beginning to plan updates to the university, expanding upon the President’s Framework for the Future, according to President Ron Liebowitz, who has been having “open discussions” with various groups on campus about status report updates regarding the Framework. These open discussions are meant to inform the community and gather input about the new proposals, Liebowitz told The Brandeis Hoot in an interview. Discussions so far have included a dinner with undergraduate students on Tuesday,

The university raised $865,000 from 2,559 gifts this Tuesday, a 60.2 percent increase in gifts and 97.4 percent increase in donation amount from last year’s $438,000 from 1,597 gifts, President Ron Liebowitz told The Brandeis Hoot in an interview. “They [the Giving Tuesday committee] engaged and involved the alumni board leadership,” Liebowitz told The Hoot. “They brought this to the alumni board for the first time, I believe, and they made an incredible outreach to their classmates, friends and so forth. Students run for Racial Minority Senator after Union apology By Celia Young editor

Three students are running for the single open racial minority senator seat on the Student Union, which Brandeis students will vote in on Dec. 10. The three students, Ishaan Khurana

’23, Kurtis Lee ’22 and Sampada Pokharel ’23, spoke with The Brandeis Hoot at a meet the candidates event Thursday night. The special election comes after the second racial minority seat’s vacancy since Oct. 6 after the then-vice president dismissed Rajan Vohra ’21 for not attending senate meetings.

The Union discussed filling the seat in a Nov. 13 senate meeting at the same time as a special election for the vice president to the Union. Student Union Secretary Taylor Fu ’21 sent an apology to the student body for not including the seat in the vice presidential special election in a Nov. 19 email. “The Student Union has re-

ceived well deserved criticism about the lack of representation on the Student Union. The Student Union is a union that should represent the entire student body, especially those voices that are most marginalized. This was an all-around failure on our part, and one that we take full responsibility for,” the email read.

The Branda app is being updated to meet the unique needs of the student body, including addressing accessibility concerns, according to the app’s development team, who gave a community update on Nov. 22. Sam Stern ’20, who co-founded the app in 2018 with Benjamin Segal ’20, said that Branda has many potential sources of revenue but that the app will never utilize any of them because
