President General, Awka Union, U.S.A. and Canada, Ogbuefi Kenneth A. Chinweze, members of the high table, distinguished ladies and gentlemen here present. On behalf of myself and family, the executive committee and the entire members of Awka Union, Los Angeles Chapter, I welcome you to this special occasion. As you all know, today, we are inaugurating the Los Angeles Chapter of Awka Union, USA and Canada; thereby formally joining other Chapters of the Union as we work towards the progress of our members in particular and our dear town Awka in general. Before proceeding further, I will like to give you a brief history of the Los Angeles chapter of Awka Union, USA and Canada. Prior to this time, some well-meaning sons and daughters of Awka town, under the leadership of Ogbuefi Charles Oforah made concerted efforts to organize themselves into a Union but for some reasons, that effort did not metamorphose into reality. What you are witnessing today is due in part to the efforts of Ogbuefi Kenneth Emeka Ezenwa and his pretty wife, Ojiefi Nkolika Ezenwa who summoned and hosted the first meeting of the Union in their home. As a saying goes, "behind every successful or unsuccessful man, there is always a woman". Just like the biblical tree planted in good soil, that singular action came to fruition. From then on, we have been growing from strength to strength. Unlike Apostle Paul who had to go through a third missionary journey to propagate the gospel of Jesus Christ to a successful end. I believe and hope that this our second visionary journey, by the special grace of God, is very successful and final. Our current membership does not truly reflect the number of Awka people here in Los Angeles, there are many Awka indigenes and their nwadianas in this city waiting on the fence, I belief that most of them got discouraged after the first effort failed. He who has never fallen or fell without getting up from where he has fallen will never be great. I therefore wish to use this opportunity to invite all Awka sons, daughters and our Nwadianas to join us in this crusade, so that together we all can make a difference. I earnestly wish to thank each and every one of you who left his or her engagements and traveled from far and near to honor our invitation tonight. May God in his infinite mercy guide and guard you back to your respective destinations and may you meet your loved ones in better condition. To our friends and

well-wishers around, I truly appreciate your presence and I am thrilled to have you in our midst. To our members, I thank you immensely for all your efforts in making tonight a huge and remarkable in success. Your efforts can only be rewarded by He who sees in secret and may He build your homes as you are helping to build this Union and wka to a greater height. I will not conclude this remark without reminding our guests and members the main purpose of tonight's gathering. We are here to solicit your help to raise money for our pet project which is modernizing and equipping the public library in Awka with computers. The importance of this cannot be overemphasized. We are in the age of science and technology. If our children are to be competitive in the world, they have to be computer savvy. Modernizing and equipping the library with computers is the first step in this direction. We look forward to your financial support to make this a reality. Your financial support will ever be remembered. Thank you once more as I commend you to the powerful hands of Almighty God for a journey mercy back to your respective locations.
