Kathy Vincent Bribie Island Croquet Club is a very successful and friendly Club. Lots of members have won lots of awards both in Queensland and elsewhere. I have included them in these articles with smiling faces holding their trophies. But that is just one tip of what the club is about. It is not just winning trophies. What Makes A Good Club? Apart From Playing Croquet That Is! Well, it is the generosity of personal time to volunteer to help. At present the club is playing in Shield, Plate and Pennant Competitions with other Queensland Clubs, many games at Bribie. This doesn’t just mean turning up and playing croquet, no there is so much more going on behind the scenes. There is the raisin toast to prepare for the visitors, many of who have travelled quite a distance. There is the morning tea which members have
been busy baking. There are the helpers who tidy up the Clubhouse and put everything away. But, most important of all are the band of volunteers who get up early and set up all the courts before many of us are even up especially on the cold winter mornings. They also regularly keep our courts groomed every week and mark out the courts. There are the captains of the different disciplines of croquet who put in many hours of work. There are the tournament managers, the members who organize raffles, and the ladies who run the kitchen. There is the management committee who are constantly trying to improve what happens at the Club and listen to member’s suggestions. A special thank you needs to go to Dick Byres the President and Jan Rees the Vice President who give so much time not only at the club but at meetings of the Sunshine Coast Regional Croquet Clubs and the Queensland Croquet
Association meetings. It is not only members who are generous to the Club Busy Fingers have been very generous and even companies such as ‘Uberline’ who kindly donated 2 x 25-litre drums of line marking paint.
