President’s Message

I hope you have had a good start to the Year of the Rat.

The management has worked hard to ensure that the Club is a safe place and have put measures in place in response to the coronavirus orange code. Temperature checks are now mandatory, and housekeeping have stepped up cleaning and disinfecting all areas of the Club. My thanks go out to all of those that are contributing to this and of course to the members for your patience and support.

Kindly take note of the Club’s subscription revision that will take effect from Sunday, 1 March. The Main Committee deliberated very long and hard before deciding on the increases. Despite our strict focus on costs, including reducing labour in our outlets, reviewing every contract and tendering to at least three alternatives and controlling our overheads very carefully, the Club has no alternative but to increase the monthly family subscription by SGD$7 per month, and the monthly single subscription by SGD$5 per month in order to balance the additional costs to the Club. You will not be required to take any action as the adjustment to subscriptions will take place automatically.

You may be aware that on the first Thursday of every month, we host a Members Connect Night. Weather permitting, this event takes place at the treetop Terrace, which is a fabulous venue overlooking our lovely grounds and with commanding views of the surrounding parts of Singapore (great for a function or private party). Members have the opportunity to network as well as meet the Main Committee and the Management team over a few drinks and light bites. All are welcome to join us at this event, which is open to both new and current Members alike. This month, we will celebrate St. Patrick’s Day on Friday, 13 March in the Windsor Arms. There will be a special Irish dance performance, live music and an interesting, “Pour your own Guinness pint” booth. You can also expect a sumptuous spread with unique Irish flavours. Another very special event happening this month is Mothering Sunday. Originally celebrated as the return to the mother church, Mothering Sunday is a special event for all British mums. Furthermore, other than at the Club, we believe that this event is celebrated nowhere else in Singapore. So, sons and daughters (and fathers too) show your appreciation for everything that mothers do and treat them to a great day and fantastic food at any of our restaurants.

Every month, the Club hosts a Wine & Gourmet dinner and this month is no exception. Wine expert and export manager, Carlos Daniel Fernandez Martinez from Manzanos Wines will grace the event on Friday, 27 March. Our chefs will be putting together a special pairing menu, and Carlos will be showcasing various varietals of the Siglo wines. This combination should be an educational and pleasurable one.
