Gazdecki, new publisher of The Bunk Room-North Lake. My husband Matt and I will be celebrating 16 years of marriage at the end of this month. We have three beautiful, strong daughters that we homeschool. Emma, Anna and Josephine (Jojo) are equally excited about this new chapter of our lives. We have watched The Bunk Room grow over the past 5 years. I was happy when Emma and Anna began to write and submit articles. They both met the requirements to become Team writer. Jojo needed a little more encouragement, but now that she is involved, she loves it. I have always been a big fan of The Bunk Room mission, to inspire kids to love and embrace reading and writing. I would like to thank the Slaby Family for allowing us to partner with them on our Bunk Room-North Lake adventure. It has been a crazy couple of weeks to transition, not only the business, but our home life. Maria has been more than wonderful to work with. I have to say that we work very well together. Our thought process, many times, was one in the same. With our combined efforts, we were able to create a 32 page edition. This means, more children in print! Keep your eye on The Bunk Room, we are on our way to bigger and better things!

What a difference a day makes! Seems like just yesterday I was up to my eyeballs, all alone and buried in the production of our last issue. Then, poof! Just like that my dream of finding the perfect publishing partner came true when our very own Bunk Roomie mom, Julie Gazdecki, rose to the challenge! Julie is the epitome of YES I Can! In the last 4 weeks, she has rolled up her sleeves and fearlessly taken this issue to print, adapting to dozens of new processes, technologies and concepts. And, she has excelled! Alone, I could only take this edition so far. Together, we can move mountains! It has been my pure joy and pleasure transitioning this edition of The Bunk Room to the Gazdecki family. You’re in good hands, North Lake readers! So now, what am I going to do with all that extra time on my hands?! :) Expand of course! Our campaign to develop publishers nationwide is a GO. It has been a very busy last couple of weeks for me as I have been applying to law schools and reorienting myself now that I have graduated from college with my Bachelor’s degree in Business Management. I still can’t believe I’m finished. As I watch my siblings wrestle deadlines in their new term of school, I feel sooooo relieved and happy to have finished! It was a ton of work for the last four years, but I’m so glad I did it! I didn’t realize where these college courses would take me when I started at 13 years old, but one class after

another, I realized I could finish! I’m thankful my parents encouraged me to take on the challenge! This break has allowed me to get ready for law school and get a job, which brings me to my next bit of exciting news!
Last week I started working as an intern for the Orlando Predators! The Predators are an Arena League Football team. They play inside a basketball arena and the field in only 50 yards in length in comparison to the fields in the NFL, which are 100 yards. It has been very exciting for me to work there as I have been learning so much about what goes into preparing for the game and what kind of things have to be done durning the game. I’m on my toes pretty much all the time! This is a great learning experience for me as I wish to become a General Manager in the NFL and everything that I learn with the Predators will be applicable in my future. As always, the articles in this edition of The Bunk Room are fantastic! Our features are top notch: Asya is doing amazing work out in California with her designs and foundation, and Grant tells about his unique travel experience to Russia. Both very inspiring! I have really enjoyed reading your articles and I implore you my dear fellows, to continue to write and submit your writing to us. (Say that with a British accent. It sounds awesome!) Adios amigos, hope to see you in the next edition of The Bunk Room!

Journey Through 6th Grade We went on many field trips. My favorite one was Sea World because all my friends got to be in a group together. We played a lot of games in class, my favorite being sparkle (a vocabulary game). We also had a lot of parties in the classroom; like the end of the year party and Christmas party. They were so much fun! I also got the chance to be in Art Club which was an amazing experience.
By Kylar 12, Port St. John, FL Saying goodbye isn’t easy. That’s what I had to do on the last day of school. Everybody cried buckets but for others, they kept their emotions inside. My first day of school and I was so scared. The worst part was that I was extremely shy. When I walked, everybody stared at me. It was frightening. I took my seat in the back of the class and of course I was the only new student so I was pointed out in every class.
Mr. Othmer is my homeroom teacher who is awesome and hilarious! He read us books and had the whole class doubled over in laughter. My next class is with Mr. Mugge, he was a dull teacher but could be funny at times. He always uses big words and his phrases are hilarious. My final class is with Mr.Poole. He’s my social studies and science teacher. He sure made them fun.
My favorite activity was art class. When it came to friends I didn’t have many, but the ones that I did have meant a lot to me. My very first true friend I made was Rachel; she asked to be my friend in the school lunch line on the second day of school and we have been friends ever since. I met Alyssa in the middle of the year. She is a true friend too and we are still best friends to this day and always will be.
Soon it was our sixth grade graduation. Many students received awards over the year. I got an award for most improved in reading. It was an exciting moment for me. I cried while watching the sixth grade video and so did my friends. The food was great and we had an awesome time hanging out with our friends. I will remember that moment of saying goodbye for the rest of my life It is so hard to say goodbye.

Fashion By Asya Gonzalez 15, Covina, CA
What exactly do you do? I design and sell 1940s inspired t-shirts, crocheted hats and purses. I love to draw. Right now we have one girl featured (on our t-shirts) but I've already drawn 14 other girls. They will be introduced later. I also have a charity called She Is Worth It! that focuses on helping girls in the human trafficking industry. This industry is the second largest crime industry, second only to the drug industry.
What do you love about what you do? I love how this is my first step into the fashion industry and at the same time, I have an opportunity to help these girls by bringing awareness. People can't stay silent when they are aware!
What's challenging about your business? The challenge is definitely getting my brand out there. One big challenging moment was trying to build a new website when we realized the old one we were using didn't allow people to view our site on their smart phones. There are times when I'm so tired from school, sports, church, etc. that I've thought of taking a break, but then I think to myself, "Why would you quit? What a waste! This is a great opportunity and is also an opportunity to help other children!"

What is your long-term goal?
14 | TheBunkRoom.com | May/June 2013 | Be published! See page 8.
My long-term goal is to definitely use this experience to launch me into the fashion industry and also to use it as a platform when I'm ready for college. I'd like to attend the Los Angeles Art Institute. I've always wanted to be a fashion designer. Â I can see myself designing shoes, dresses and other women's clothing. Â It's all I've ever wanted to do!
Passion! Who inspires you?
Danica Patrick is a huge inspiration to me. I met her once when I was six and she told me I could do whatever I wanted to do if it was my dream. She is a very successful woman driving for Indy Car and now NASCAR. She had a goal and didn't let anything stop her. Amazing!
How much time do you spend on your business daily? Weekly? I am always talking about my business. I answer email and fan questions. I post on Facebook and come up with new ideas. My mom and I have a "think tank" where we talk about new ideas.
How have your family and friends reacted? Are they supportive? My family and friends are a huge support for me. They cheer me on and lift me up. I have tons of support from them and I always get a lot of great advice from them.
What advice would you give kids who are trying to go for their dreams? Some advice I'd like to offer is definitely to go for your dreams. Don't live someone else's. Only you can make it happen! Also, you have to be happy and have fun otherwise none of it is worth it. Another thing to do is to ask for help. Do not try to do it all on your own. The most successful businesses have lots and lots of help! Russia I stepped off the airplane and instantly became aware that I was in a foreign land. Gone were the familiar smells and sounds of Minnesota. Unknown letters, mysterious sounds, and new smells surrounded me and beckoned me to explore. After two long airplane flights, I had finally arrived in Russia. My interest in Russia started when I signed up for International Studies, a class offered at my high school in Minnetonka, Minnesota. This class involves corresponding with a pen pal in a foreign country throughout the school year. My Russian partner, Christina, and I had a great time getting to know each other as we learned the similarities and differences between Russia and the United States. We developed an instant friendship. However, I longed to experience Russia in person.

summer of 2012 with my fellow students and teachers, and I jumped at the opportunity. Our adventure started with a few days in St. Petersburg, a beautiful city filled with relics of Imperial Russia. My travel companions and I (Emily, Parker, Piers and Ross and our teachers Mr. Hendrickson and Ms. Aiken) toured much of the city.
I was fortunate to be given the chance to travel to Russia in the
Great; and Peterhof, a palace for the tsars located along the sea.
After St. Petersburg, it was finally time to meet all of my Russian friends in Petrozavodsk. After a 9-hour train ride through the Russian wilderness, our group arrived in Petrozavodsk and were warmly greeted by 20 Russians holding traditional bread and welcome posters. It was incredible to meet everyone, including Christina, in person.

Some of the highlights included the Hermitage, an art museum; St. Isaac’s Cathedral, a very large church with an amazing view of the city; the Peter and Paul Fortress, a fort with the remains of many Russian tsars, including Peter the

During the week in Petrozavodsk, I stayed with Olya, another student at the Russian school with whom we corresponded. Olya’s family included her boyfriend, Vlad, her mother, Svetlana, and her cat, Sasha. They are some of the nicest people I have ever met and were a great host family. Some of my favorite memories were eating traditional Russian foods perfectly prepared by Svetlana like borscht (a beet soup), blini (thin pancakes), and pelmini (meat ravioli).
In Petrozavodsk I also went to a traditional Russian fair, spent time at Christina’s school and went to Kizhi, an island with wooden churches that are hundreds of years old. We also visited a Russian orphanage. I will never forget these experiences and the relationships that I formed. After a fantastic week in Petrozavodsk, we finished our journey with a few days in Moscow. Here we took in many sights, including the Kremlin, St. Basil’s Cathedral and many fascinating museums. Sadly, after two unforgettable weeks in Russia, it was time to head home to my family and friends in Minnesota. Although the trip was over, I took with me memories that will last a lifetime.

Belgium is a small country bordered by France, Germany and the Netherlands. The weather is gray in the winter, and gray and blue in the summer.
Sometimes, I have to smile when I hear Belgians daydreaming about Florida, thinking it is one giant beach with palm trees and Disney World ...
How is it to belong to two different countries? Well, it has pros and cons. Some of the advantages are: having amazing friends that I wouldn’t know if my
My mom and dad met in Leesburg, FL when Mom got a job as an au pair for some friends of Dad. To make a very long story short, 20 years later, they got married, moved to Belgium, and then I was born. Finally.
Since I was three months old, I went to daycare and preschool in French. My parents raised me to be bilingual: English and French. When I was almost four, my dad (born in Leesburg, FL), got too homesick after living in Belgium for seven years, so we moved to Florida. We’ve lived here ever since, though Mom and I go visit every vacation. So, from the beginning, I spoke French with my mom and English with my dad. He thinks he speaks French pretty well, but, to tell you the truth, his French is horrible.
Now, sometimes, I forget words in French because I’ve started to speak

English with Mom more and more even though I’ve been trying not to, but it all comes back when I go to Belgium. I wouldn’t say that French is my second language, more that it’s my other native language.
This article is about me, my family and my two countries: USA and Belgium.

Sometimes, I have to smile when I hear Belgians daydreaming about Florida, thinking it is one giant beach with palm trees and Disney World, while I know how hot it is on this “giant beach.”
What is difficult about living in two worlds is that I can see three of my best friends in the whole wide world (literally) only twice a year. The same goes for my mom’s side of the family. Another disadvantage is that most of the time when I go to Belgium, my dad stays behind and I miss him a lot. It seems like wherever I am, I always miss the other side of the ocean. One more thing is that the plane tickets cost a lot of money that could be used for other things. In a few words: I love it here… and I can’t wait to go back to Belgium!

Selling Cam aro: The Drama !
I’ve had a lot of people call me about the Camaro but not all of them have actually come and driven it. I have had a few people come and drive it, but today I had to drive the car for the person interested in buying it. The reason he wanted me to drive was because he hasn’t driven a stick in a long time.
When he arrived, he was with his dad and his sister. They were from Cuba so it was kind of hard to understand them. They looked at the car and I told them about it. Eventually they were ready for the test ride. I hoped in the driver’s seat and turned the key and nothing happened! Unfortunately the battery was dead so I had to jump it. . . .

Se nd res to adult teenagers, and endless rap songs at o! inhumane hours. This was only the beginning of this past summer’s Christ in Youth (CIY) Camp and it was certainly a trip to remember. The seven day peregrination began with what was quite possibly the longest and most interesting car ride of my life, driving the entire way to Johnson University in Tennessee. Once the entire group finally arrived, we scarfed down breakfast and took the next few hours to get ourselves settled into the dorms and freshen up before our first meeting that night. The many youth groups that had come from across the country gathered into the campus’ gym where we got to know our hosts for CIY, and were also introduced to the band for that week, who would be playing concerts in the morning and the evening. The schedule for the next five days was as follows: early breakfast, then get to the morning meeting. After that, it was lunch and then we had free time until around five o’clock. Many filled that time with a good nap, while others chose to explore the campus, go swimming at the campus pool, or simply take a stroll across the ample, beautiful grounds. A much enjoyed pastime was Frisbee, an apparent requirement of staying at a college. One day, we were up until 11 at night in the middle of a raging thunderstorm, playing with a light-up Frisbee. Even standing soaked and shivering in the dorm lobby, we were smiling. Once the exciting stay was over, we packed our bags, said a farewell to the new friends we had made, and piled back into the van. However, the adventure wasn’t over just yet; on the way home, we stopped at Six Flags over Georgia, and spent an afternoon in the sweltering heat screaming at the top of our lungs. Sweaty and exhausted, we stopped at a Golden Corral for dinner, and took in a change of clothes with us. What a sight we must have made, more than 20 hungry, tired people going into Golden Corral to change clothes and eat. Worn out as we were, I quickly discovered that cotton candy does wonders for the energy levels of teens.

We finally arrived home at three in the morning, all in dire need of nap and our own showers. Altogether an entirely unforgettable trip!

By Lauryn 13, Montgomery, AL In about 15 years from now, I will be 28 years old. By the time I’m 28, I'd hope to be married and teaching deaf children somewhere in California because I really like the "Sunshine State!”
I'd love to have three kids and when they're all grown up, then I'd love to open up my very own pet store... Pet hotel rather, with lots of features that no other pet hotel has. It's been a personal dream of mine since I was about 10 years old, so I strongly believe in this dream that I’ve kept alive for the past three years.
Speaking of pets and animals, I would ADORE having two HUGE Huskies. I currently have two tiny toy poodles and I really wish that we could get a big dog that you could run around in the back yard with and roughhouse with, so I'd love more than anything to have two big huskies. If I don't get huskies, then at least some sort of other large dog! Lastly, house-wise I'd like to live in a large quiet suburban home with all my dogs, kids and my husband.
Inspiring One “ABC” at a Time By Amber 16, Clermont, FL Lake Minneola High School Here on the hill at Lake Minneola High School we have an exceptional preschool center with kids ages three to five. Each week we have a different theme, which determines the activities for that particular week or subject. For instance, when it’s animal theme, we sing songs about animals, eat animal crackers and read books about animals. The preschoolers are currently learning how to count to 50, how to sing their ABCs and how to recite the Pledge of Allegiance. In addition, every day we give them snacks, play with them outside on the playground and have circle time. When these wonderful children grow up, they will attend Lake Minneola and be our future hawks.
These amazing kids have really opened my eyes to helping kids grow into becoming strong and intelligent adults. I plan to go to the University of Georgia and major in Physical Therapy, specializing in children. They are our future! Let’s Go Hawks!

The Circle of Life This is a poem I wrote about my mom. The first time she saw the movie "The Lion King" was a few days after I was born, and she was about to attend her grandfather's funeral. She said that the song Circle of Life came on and she began to cry as she held her new baby and said good-bye to an important man in her life. A new child in her arms, Fragile and innocent, Tender hands on a tender heart.

There’s More To What Meets The Eye!

Dr. Samadhi Artemisa, an iridologist, found her passion 12 yeas ago when she got her own eyes interpreted. “It was a life changing experience for me.”
We got tickets to the Bright House suite. We went right to it. We waited for the game to start. When the game started I was excited.I had never seen a hockey game before! Later in the game I got to meet Shades, the mascot. I actually had a little conversation with him.
Iridology is the study of the iris (colored part of our eye) to determine information about a person’s health.
Soon enough, her carer was on its way. She got her license in iridology and acupuncture, as well as her bachelor’s and master’s degrees in holistic nutrition and her Ph.D. Artemisa is still learning about eyes to this day.
Finally, the game ended. The Solar Bears won, 4 to 6! I can't wait to see another hockey game!

Ms. Michelle is my tennis teacher. One day at church she asked me if I wanted to start playing tennis. I said “Yes” because it sounded like fun and I played a little before. I already had a tennis racket. She is very nice and she has taught me a lot in the last few weeks. I do up hits and down to the ground hits to warm up. I can turn my racket from side to side while doing up hits too. In just a couple of lessons, I can hit the ball over the net and farther. It feels great when I play and I have lots of fun. We did a dual and I won a prize. We are going to eat out lunch after the next time we meet. I want to practice and get better and better every time. I am going to train for the Olympics in 12 years.

Annika’s Iridology Exam
Your eyes. They take in the world and guide you through your days. One thing you may not know is that your eyes can do more than see; they are the window to your soul as well as your heath.
Last night, I went to a hockey game. The teams were the Titans and the Solar Bears. A friend of mine named Aidan invited me. It took about 45 minutes to get to the stadium.

The Bunk Roomies develop their journalistic skills by finding the story in everyone.
There are three types of eye colors in iridology. A pure blue, a pure brown and a mix eye color of blue and brown. No pupils are the same; not even with identical twins. That is what makes a person unique. Kids have small pupils and very tired adults have big pupils.
Our eyes are some of the things we take for granted but not Artemisa. She has a much deeper passion for eyes than the ordinary person. “I think eyes are just so beautiful.”
Artemisa takes a picture of a client’s eyes and studies them for weeks. Once she's done, she prescribe nutrients that can help improve any negative health risks the person is prone to have, including things like diabetes, heart trouble, digestive problems, etc. Everybody can have an iridology consultation, from kids to adults. The sooner, the better. The sooner people know about their health challenges, the sooner they can adapt to them.
Although Artemisa loves studying eyes, there still are some challenges. “I think what the challenging thing is, is to get the people to understand that if they come in with a physical symptom, it’s not necessarily going to show up in their eyes and it’s not necessarily going to change when their symptom goes away.”
LEGOs: Nearly 100 years old. A classic.
By Clayton Polk 11, Mount Dora, FL Bunk Roomie JAy-Team / Mount Dora Middle
Now, I have a vast collection of thousands of LEGO bricks!
Have you ever wondered how the very popular company LEGO started? In Billund, Denmark in 1916, LEGO began. In the beginning, the toys they produced were made of wood. Over time, they switched to making a system of plastic toys that became very popular called LEGO bricks. Now, there are many types of LEGO toys. There are sets based on movies such as “Lord of the Rings,” “Star Wars” and “Indiana Jones.” I like LEGOs because they make me feel like I can make anything, tell a story or just have fun building. I started playing with LEGOs when I was five or six. I didn’t have many sets then but I grew to love them with the limited amount that I had.
I think it would be great to get more people to build with LEGOs because it’s an awesome way to boost creativity and imagination. If I were to build a “dream” LEGO set, it would be the “Star Wars” Mos Eisley Cantina with music and sound bricks that would play the music from the movies with the characters including Chewbacca, Han Solo, Luke and Ben Kenobi. When I grow up, I plan to keep building with LEGO bricks and adding to my collection.

Osteoarthiritis shouldn’t slow you down. If you have knee pain or stiffness with activity and have not responded to anti-inflammatory medication or other treatments, you may be a good candidate for the MAKOplasty® procedure.
