WHAT’S THE DIFFERENCE?

The cake board is an essential piece of equipment in any cakey enthusiast’s baking arsenal, but with so many shapes, sizes, and materials available today, picking the right board for the right cake is super important. SHOP NOW

Usually around 3mm thick. Used for lighter, smaller cakes. Use for extra support between cake tiers.

Usually around 12mm thick. Ideal for heavier cakes such as large sponges and tiered wedding cakes.

A popular ‘in-between’ option. Made from compressed wood fibres (MDF). Usually between 4mm and 6mm thick. A thinner board but with much more strength.

How did you get into the world of cake decorating and treat making?

I got into cake decorating after having my first child. I was spending most of my time at home and needed a hobby. After watching the bake off, I was inspired to take up baking! This gradually turned into a love for cake decorating and treat making.

Liz is a digital content creator from Nottinghamshire. With her natural creative flair, Liz is taking the cake and treat decorating world by storm. She’s obsessed with creating fun designs, adding bright pops of colour, and has never met a sprinkle she didn’t like! @loveisbakeable

Who/what inspires your unique designs?

I like to search for inspo in non-cake related places. Like decor ideas, clip art, wallpapers etc. I find this helps keep my work authentic which is something I feel strongly on maintaining.

What has been your favourite trend in cake decorating lately?

I don't have a favourite trend to be fair, I'm into all techniques. BUT, I just don't think you can ever beat a fun sprinkle drip cake. It's an oldie but a goldie- simply timeless!

What are your 'holy grail' cake decorating tools and products? I do love my frost form kit, it speeds up and simplifies the process of cake making. Aside from that, you most definitely need an offset spatula, a tall metal cake scraper, disposable piping bags and the classic 1M piping tip. These are the tools I can't live without!

What are your 'top tips' for always being inspired? Top tips for being inspired is to take an occasional mental break. As someone who creates content for 4 companies, ideas have to come to me often. Admittedly, I sometimes feel uninspired and find it hard to come up with something new. A day or two break doing other things I enjoy seems to refresh my mind! If an idea comes to me I like to sketch it out so I don't forget about it, that also helps!

What's your favourite bake to date? That's like asking me to pick my favourite child! Probably a Cruella Deville buttercream transfer cake I made for frost form. I'm a huge fan of Disney and transfers (both buttercream and chocolate!) so that cake will always have a special place in my heart.

This irresistible style, born in Japan, is continuing to pop up here, there and everywhere. Perfect for adding personality to your bakes, think big eyes, rosy cheeks and pretty colours. See more of these amazing creations on page 15-16! @S OPI 326

We didn’t know it was possible, but fondant cakes are getting cuter than ever in 2022. Adding a creative cake topper is a simple but effective way to take yours to the next level. It’s also the perfect way to add a seasonal twist to your cakes. After a couple of years of limited socialising, any occasion from Easter to the Platinum Jubilee is an excuse for a celebratory cake!

We can confirm, the Lambeth style that has proven so popular over the last year is not going anywhere yet. This classic is showcasing some serious staying power! And it’s hardly a surprise - the vintage vibes are iconic. The highly detailed over-piping creates a spectacular finish worthy of any masterpiece. Watching an expert cake maker flawlessly put one of these cakes together is so satisfying!

Inspired by impressionist painters like Monet, palette knife decorating is taking the cake world by storm - and we are in full support of it! This style is all about texture. It kicks perfectionism to the kerb, favouring broad strokes creating movement and depth. The beauty of this style is how abstract it is - you really can let your imagination go wild and create something entirely unique!

Old school tray bakes are having a moment! And who doesn’t love a bit of nostalgia? We’re seeing lots of talented bakers putting a new spin on the classic sheet cake! The magic is in the decorating. The right finishing touches take them from simple to show-stopping! Tying in with another trend, tray bakes like brownies and blondies make an excellent addition to a pretty treat box!

The simplest of ways to create a beautiful, arch-shaped cake, we can totally see why this trend is gaining momentum! Just slice off a small portion and turn the cake on its side. Et voila! Toppers and decorations are then attached to the “side” of the cake. Who knew such a simple change of positioning could create such a stylish and contemporary look?

Simple Operation

Trays and spacers, especially designed for Eddie, are available for feeding options. They allow printing on a wide variety of object within the specifications

No change in taste

Due to direct printing there is no strange film or aftertaste, which would decrease the quality of the food.

Direct-to-food printing

Eddie prints directly onto the food item, which allows for a highly professional look and great detail. Even curved and uneven suraces produce great looking results.

Feeding Mechanism

Print objects can be transported to the printer either manually or automatically with the help of the carousel plate. Depending on the feeding mode, different print widths and heights result.

Cover your cake in ganache coloured with Pink Fondust, creating sharp edges using your scraper & off-set spatula.

Add butter cream to three bowls, with the third bowl having the most to be used for the top of the cake.

Add colouring to the buttercream to create 3 pale colours and put the coloured buttercream into your piping bags.

Using your circular cutter make an indentation onto the face of your cake, this will be your wreath guide

Starting with your pale pink & pale yellow, begin to pipe stars & swirls around the circular guide forming a wreath pattern.

Use your leaf tip #02 to add in the butter cream leaves.

Start at the back of the cake, hold piping bag at a 45° angle, begin piping a swirl motion to form a buttercream swirl crow.

Add Easter egg sprinkles to the top of your cake & smaller gold, pink & yellow sprinkles to your wreath.

Finally, take a little old gold lustre dust, add some rejuvenator spirit & mix. With a paintbrush, gently flick all over the cake.

Some of our favourite influencers have given their top tips to help you improve your vegan baking. Use one tablespoon of baking soda with one tablespoon of vinegar to recreate the equivalent of one egg. Substitute milk with soy milk or vegan yoghurt. Don’t overmix the batter. @chikzpatisserie

Use a 70/30 ratio between Vegan butter to Trex for butter cream as it needs the Trex to not look split/curdled. If it is too stiff to work with, a splash of freshly boiled water from the kettle will help loosen it up to the perfect working consistency. @bubbasbakes

Use plant based Elmlea and Dark chocolate for an easy vegan chocolate ganache. Vegan cakes tend to be softer than regular cakes so having a good shell around the sponge helps to keep them firm and structurally sound! @emilyhankinscakes
