CONTENTS WELCOME The Union invites you “Into the Enchanted Forest” for our flagship event of the term: The Lent Ball on 14th March 2022. After the success of our Winter Spectacular, the Union is hoping to make this next ball an even more memorable and extravagant affair! Surrounded by stunning, mystical decor, you will have the opportunity to don black tie, take in fabulous music and entertainment, and enjoy unlimited food and drinks. Our committee have worked hard to put together an incredible lineup of acts, vendors and ents for you to enjoy all through the ball. We look forward to welcoming you into the Enchanted Forest!

Roasting and grinding their own aromatic spice blends, this popular duo pride themselves on flavour and authenticity. FOOD Wandering Yak Inspired by the flavours of the Middle East, the Wandering Yak deliver vibrant plant-based street food. Bringing five of their most loved flavours to the Union, Jack’s are back to keep your sweet tooth satisfied late into the evening. ACTS Main Stage (The Chamber) MARSELA (20:30 to 20:50) MARSELA is a London based independent artist. Her powerhouse vocals are at the forefront of her musical identity, with cinematic storytelling that explores themes of love, power and grief. Instagram: @marselamusic Linktree: @marselamusic

Cheap Date (21:00 to 21:50) Cheap Date is an alternative rock band formed in Cambridge, influenced by the likes of The Strokes, Radiohead, Tom Misch and more. They play upbeat, well-known rock covers and hard-hitting originals. Facebook: @cheapdat3 Instagram: @cheap_date TikTok: @cheap.date

ACTS Malachi Amour x KAZAK (22:00 to 22:50) Malachi Amour and Kazak are two UK hip-hop artists hailing from North-West London. Joined by a line-up of seasoned industry musicians, Malachi and Kazak bring a variety of UK hip-hop and Afro-Caribbean styles such as afroswing and R&Drill to the live-band experience. Fink Ployd (23:00 to 23:50) Fink Ployd is a Homerton-based cover band founded in 2017. The spoonerism in Fink Ployd’s name pays tribute to their namesake and recognises Homerton’s historical links to the iconic British band. Vets on the ball circuit, Fink Ployd covers everyone’s favourite pop-rock bangers from the ‘60s to now, guaranteeing all ball-goers a boogie to remember. Instagram: @f_ployd

CONTENTS ACTS Bethany Reddy as “Gaga’s Born” (00:00 to 01:00) There is no doubt that Lady Gaga is one of the most enigmatic, provocative, and exciting artists in modern music. Her eccentric dress sense and unconventional style has made her one of the most recognisable and talked about performers on the planet. There are not many singers that do justice to such a formidable talent, but Beth Reddy is one of them. Her powerhouse vocals have to be heard to be believed and the effortless way which she delivers Gaga’s greatest hits with will have audience members on the edge of glory. Soft Crunchy Landing (01:10 to 2:00) Formed in 2017 by a group of Emma students, Soft Crunchy Landing has always sought to provide Cambridge with pop and funk classics performed by some of the university’s finest musical talent. The group is 18-strong and plays a wide variety of music consisting of the standards, swing, funk and a number of classic vocal charts. Syzygie (20:00 to 20:45) To quote the group themselves: “Big fokkern jazz cowboys.” Instagram: @syzygie.music HoJO (Homerton Jazz Orchestra) (20:55 to 21:25) The Homerton Jazz Orchestra (HoJO) is one of the finest jazz suits in Cambridge. They perform a variety of tunes, from contemporary swing classics to exciting new music – including in-house compositions and arrangements. Past performances include the Homerton 250th Festival, annual sets at the Cambridge International Jazz Festival and May Ball circuit, and during visits from Rev. Jesse Jackson and Prince Charles. Daniel Daley Quintet (01:10 to 02:00) The Daniel Daley Sextet is a jazz combo formed of students from Homerton and Lucy Cavendish and play a range of styles swing classics to Latin charts to modern funk.

Variety Stage (Library) GG Fearn (20:00-20:40) 21-year-old Welsh songwriter GG Fearn is a Law student from Lucy Cavendish. An experienced performer having toured Wales, GG has achieved airplay on BBC and other stations throughout the world. Her 4-song EP ‘Black Mirror’ is available on Spotify. New music coming soon. SAFFRA (21:40 to 22:30) Cambridge four-piece band SAFFRA are new to the UK jazz landscape but are already beginning to make a mark with their vibrant and inventive take on neo-soul/rnb. Each member contributes a unique set of musical experiences and influences to the band’s sound, which ranges from hip-hop to breakbeat, from techno to jazz, from soul to contemporary classical. These diverse sounds are blended seamlessly, bound together by the band’s love for fun, danceable grooves which push the envelope of modern jazz/rnb music. India Blue (20:50 to 21:40) India Blue is a faerie-folk musician and multi-instrumentalist weaving tunes on her harp, keys, and mandolin (to name a few). India’s lyrics are inspired by storytelling traditions, spirituality, and the wonder of nature. Having toured the UK Festival scene for the last 6 years, India has just released her debut studio album The Circus Came and Left (2022). Quasar (22:40 to 23:10) Having only formed this academic year, Quasar is quickly gaining popularity around Cambridge. Providing a blend of jazz and hip-hop, they have found numerous opportunities to perform around the city as live music makes its long-awaited return following the pandemic.

Poledancers (21:50 to 22:20 & 23:20 to 23:50) Enjoy mesmerising and daring performances from Cambridge’s own pole dancing society, CUPS.

Jez (22:30 to 23:10) Experience an exclusive show from the hilarious comedian magician and cabaret performer Jez Bond, as featured on Britain’s Got Talent.

CUJO (00:20 to 01:00) CUJO is Cambridge’s premier vehicle for promoting and performing jazz in the University and beyond, bringing together the top jazz musicians at Cambridge. They have performed in numerous professional venues in the UK and overseas, won gold awards in national competitions

Grand Canoe (01:00 to 02:00) London-based string-rending folk quartet, singing the harmonies of Celtic folk and millennial Americana. Since cutting their teeth busking on the streets of London, they’ve built a loyal fan base through a series of

ACTS intimate and exhilarating live shows at a list of classic venues throughout the city and further afield. Their upcoming single ‘I Saw’ echoes the gargantuan arena-folk and hot-stepping banjos of Mumford and Sons, while other tracks inherit the rambling folksinger tradition with polished violin and fulsome harmonies. Silent Disco DJs (Fairfax Rhodes Room) Eliza Pepper (20:00 to 22:00) The Queen of Clubs is defying her name by taking a break from the Cambridge clubbing scene to return to

the Union once again. Her kingdom is largely Jungle and Baile Funk, but it extends to House, Disco and Cheesy Bop Tunes. If you want a song shoot her a message on Facebook and Instagram before the Ball and she’ll have it prepped for you on the night! CHARITY We are delighted to be working with RAG (Raising and Giving) again. Cambridge RAG is the largest student-led organization in the University, organising some of the largest events in the student calendar all for charity. If you’re interested in helping out message them on facebook. They will be running a for-charity coat check at the Ball. Please remember to bring £1 in cash if you want to donate.

CONTENTS SAFETY INFORMATION Security Security staff will be present throughout the Ball for your safety, and we kindly ask that you comply with any instruction they may give you. Please ensure that you wear your wristband at all times and display it to our staff when requested to do so. Readmission is not permitted. First Aid In the event of a medical emergency, there will be staff trained in first aid located in the President’s Office outside the Chamber. If you require any other assistance don’t hesitate to speak with a member of staff or a committee member. Fire Safety In the event of a fire, please follow the signs and directions to your nearest exit as quickly and calmly as possible. Should you discover a fire, please report it to the nearest member of staff immediately. If you are told by security staff that an area has reached maximum capacity, please kindly respect the safety of other guests and do not enter this area.

FAQs COVID Regulations Please do not attend this event if you have reason to suspect you have COVID-19. You will need to present proof of vaccination, or a negative lateral flow taken within the previous 48 hours, in order to gain access. As stated in the ticket Terms and Conditions, you will not be eligible for a refund if you can not attend because of COVID-19. How to I enter? Enter via the alleyway by the round church. At the ticketing kiosk, present your ticket, ID (18+) and NHS (or equivalent) covid pass. If you have a member’s ticket, you will need to show your Union Membership ID card. Note that we accept Union membership cards as proof of your being aged 18+. Smoking Area Smoking is allowed in and only in the designated smoking area in the garden.
