JOURNAL
THE Dear Readers,
Welcome to the July edition of The Journal! As always we have been working nonstop to produce a fantastic magazine for you to enjoy! This has meant that while everyone was relaxing in the bar, enjoying the World Cup, Danny and I were locked away in the office working nonstop to meet the print deadline! Imagine our surprise when we emerged to the news that both England AND Spain had crashed out of the tournament in the early stages! With the World Cup more or less out of the way, this means we can now focus on Wimbledon in the hope that we can once again cheer Andy Murray to victory! In this month’s magazine we have lots going on. Our Anonymous resident is back again. Not content with starting a war of words over dog ownership on Camposol in our June edition, this month he/she vents their spleen over car parking at the commercial centre on B sector. Those of you that have been out and about recently and visited Just Fabulous on Camposol will have seen their amazing new card machine. If you haven’t paid them a visit yet, then head down there where the staff will be happy to show you what a fantastic machine it is. You can design and print personalised cards with your own unique message in a plethora of different themes. When tasked with finding someone special the perfect card, then look no further! Also this month we would like to welcome Wimax Online to the both the magazine and the local area. Wimax Online have recently invested in providing a unique 4G network that covers Camposol and surrounding areas. This means that their customers can receive High Speed internet via a 4G modem, without the need for any external antenna, and their prices are unbelievable low too! It’s great to see that residents now have a number of different options when choosing their internet provider. Enjoy this month’s magazine, enjoy the summer and please keep your e-mails coming in. We love hearing your feedback, both good and bad and try and respond to everyone who writes to us! Regards, Robert Rutherford

No win bonus
A SPANISH politician has slammed the whopping €720,000 Spain’s players would have each received if they had won the World Cup. The eye-watering sum is more than double that which their Brazilian and German counterparts stand to earn. The winning country is set to receive €27 million in prize money. Spanish captain Iker Casillas and vicecaptain Xavi have agreed a deal over the bonuses players would receive from that sum with the Spanish football federation. The news prompted one politician to tweet: “Spain would have paid more than double the bonus that Germany would for the World cup. Are we twice as rich as Germany?” But Spain’s manager Vincente del Bosque has hit back at the criticism, insisting he wants bonuses to be ‘entirely transparent’. Meanwhile forward Juan Mata emphasised money was no incentive for the players, leaving the rest of us wondering exactly what the incentive was for the Spanish team after they ended up being the first team to exit the competition after losing their first two games.
Chicken Pox Vaccine Sale Ban Causes Outbreak CHICKEN pox cases in Spain are rocketing now that pharmacies are not
allowed to sell vaccinations against the condition over the counter, according to healthcare researchers. So far this year, 63,136 people – adults and children – have been diagnosed with the itchy, uncomfortable skin complaint – nearly 9,000 or 16.5 per cent more than in the same period in 2013. And the number of cases is rising almost weekly – in the third week in April, 5,274 patients were found to have chicken pox, an increase of nearly a quarter on the previous week, and between April 28 and May 4, a further 3,800 were reported, or a rise of around seven per cent on the week before. But this time last year saw a fall in diagnoses of chicken pox – by early May, doctors had detected 12.7 per cent fewer cases than in the first four months of 2012. The Trade Federation of Spanish Pharmacists (FEFE) says the almost epidemic wave of chicken pox has cropped up since April when the central government’s ministry of health decided to ban chemists from selling the vaccine over the counter in a bid to save money. In a normal year, pharmacies in Spain shift around 320,000 chicken pox vaccines, although due to the clampdown on sales, this is predicted to fall to to as few as 48,000 annually. The health service has warned in the past that any child who had not already suffered chicken pox by the age of 12 should be vaccinated, since adult strains of the condition are far more debilitating and cause a greater long-term risk to health than the much milder one usually caught in earliest childhood. Adult chicken pox can lead to pneumonia or bronchial pneumonia, and can be very harmful to unborn children if caught by pregnant women. Normally, if a child suffers chicken pox at a very young age – the most common being around five to seven – he or she is then immune to it for life, since although cases of a second bout of the condition have been known, they are extremely rare. The national health system funds vaccinations for 12-year-olds who have not already had chicken pox, but anyone else who wanted to be injected had to buy their own over the counter. Now, with the ban on sales, they cannot do so and will normally only be given a

prescription for a vaccination if they are considered to be a very high-risk case.
Changes To Registering Births And Deaths British nationals living in Spain should note from Monday 9th June, the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) is changing the way that it registers the births and deaths of British citizens overseas. The process will be gradually withdrawn from British Consulates in Spain during the rest of 2014. Thereafter this option for British expatriates will be carried out by a central registration in the UK. Consular birth registration is an optional service and is only available to those born overseas who have an automatic entitlement to British Nationality at birth. There is no legal requirement for consular birth registration, and a local birth certificate with a certified translation if necessary should be sufficient for all purposes in the UK including applying for a passport. Similarly there is no requirement for a consular death certificate – a local certificate should be sufficient for winding up the affairs and obtaining probate in the UK. The processing time for registrations will remain the same but applicants will need to allow extra time for documents to be sent to and from the UK. British nationals can find information here on how to apply for a consular birth of death certificate. Centralisation of birth and death registration into a single-purpose unit in the UK will allow the FCO to provide a common online application procedure with a credit card payment facility, which will be more efficient and convenient for customers. Centralisation will also enable FCO consular staff to better focus on their primary function of assisting British nationals in distress.

Work has continued around the sector concentrating on a garden area on D25 and work near the D Sector “Welcome” sign. Thanks to the volunteers who turned out on Monday 9th June. Monday is now our day for working but many individuals work on other days as it suits them. At this time of year mosquitoes are very busy so it is important not to provide breading areas for them which can be as small as a puddle. If anyone suspects an abandoned pool has them breading they can report it to Tatiana at the Cultural Centre and the Council will come and spray. Fatal car crashes soar due to alcohol, drugs and ageing cars, reveals survey More than one in ten drivers on Spanish roads are intoxicated, according to official data. A Department of Transport (DGT) survey, involving 3,000 drivers across the country, found that 8.8% of drivers had been taking drugs, particularly cannabis, while 4.1% were over the alcohol limit. Toxicology reports show 43% of those killed on Spanish roads this year had taken drugs or been drinking alcohol. The DGT also insists that traffic fatalities

– which numbered nearly 2,000 in 2012 – could be halved if people drove only when sober. Boss Maria Segui explained that while Spain has accepted the ‘don’t drink and drive’ concept, the country has failed to realise it also applies to drugs. She also blames the state and age of cars for an alarming rise in road deaths this year. She said that many of the 396 fatalities this year – four times more than last year – were due to the average Spanish car being 12-years old.
PROTECTING YOUR FURNITURE ETC IN THE HOT MONTHS. The hot summer months are well on the way now and the Spanish Sun is unrelenting from dawn to dusk. Some people escape it by popping off to good old Blighty for a few months and the ones left behind entertain family and friends or just enjoy the summer. Why don’t we do as the Spanish do in the summer, after all they have the handle on the summer here as they were born and bred in Spain and have the experience of the hot months. The one thing I do myself is keep my shutters shut during the morning at the back of my house as the sun rises there.

Helps keep my casa cooler for the day and do not open again until after 2.00 p.m. Then I will close the shutters on the front of my casa as the sun is pouring in there after 2.00 p.m. Then when the evening breeze gets up in the evening I open up the shutters to air the casa. Not only does this help keep my casa cooler for sleeping in the night it also protects my furniture from the strong rays of sunshine. Using your shutters in this way saves your wooden furniture drying out and fading, including any of your upholstery and other fabrics such as curtains etc. I am not saying live like a pit pony in the dark, just leave a little gap to allow light in to see where you are going and leave internal doors open for light as well.
their homes and something to sit under in their rocking chairs so they can watch the world go by or have a good gossip. Keep your mattresses well aired and wash your mattress and pillow protectors often during the hot months. This helps keep everything smelling a lot sweeter and fresher and good for mattress condition. If you have rooms you rarely use do keep them well aired too, this does help with the humidity problem here in a lot of homes. Also, it is good if you can to pull furniture away a bit from the walls in these rooms and get a bit of an air flow going. It has been known to help with damp patches. Another tip if you are out for part of the day or the whole day close all your shutters and for those with Air Conditioning you will see a difference in your electric bills. The hardest part of this is training your family and friends to follow your lead in keeping your home cool and furniture protected. Good luck with that one – some battles I have won and others I just threw in the towel, it was easier. The Spanish also like their trees near their properties as this gives shade to

Lazy or Just Downright Selfish??
By an Anonymous Resident
Nowadays on the few occasions that I visit the UK it is very evident in all built up areas it is very difficult to find some where to park your car unless you are willing to pay a small fortune for the pleasure of doing so. For those that do park in the wrong place or let their ticket run out there are the much hated traffic wardens who slap a ticket on your windscreens with obvious enthusiasm. If you follow my regular contributions you will not be surprised to hear that I have often had confrontations over what I considered was the injustice of such draconian methods to obtain what can only be described as an indirect taxation of motorists. Having lived on Camposol for a number of years now I have changed my opinion to one of fully understanding why the authorities need to stamp down on what can only be described as selfish and antisocial behavior by those car users who feel that they can park anywhere and sod the inconvenience to anyone else be they other road users or pedestrians. Take a normal day on the small car park which stretches from Santander Bank to the veterinary surgery. When the car park is full, usually about 11am, there are those that rather than use the two car parking areas either end of the commercial centre they prefer to park on the road along the front causing a major inconvenience to all others wishing to use the road. On top of this there are those that have a little feeling of guilt and park half on the road and half on the pavement blocking it for pedestrians. As an observation many of these cars appear to be those of the resident, “up yours brigade”, who drive around in illegal UK registered cars and don’t give a s.... for the law or anybody else. As another interesting aside the reason this particular car park is full is by 11am is that the majority of legal parking areas are filled with cars of the employees of the businesses on the commercial centre. If you don’t believe me check it out. You will see many cars marked with
page 12
logos of the businesses that reside there. You would think they would be savvy enough to see if they freed up these spaces by parking their cars just a few minutes’ walk away they may offer a better experience to their potential customers who would be able to park closer to their businesses. Why do they do it? Because, unlike the UK, they can get away with it. Wouldn’t it be nice if we could live in a place where everyone had some consideration for everyone else? Of course it’s not going to happen as within Camposol and the surrounding area we have many who only care about one thing. Themselves!! The only answer is to do what they do in the UK. Hit them in their pockets. The Mayor of Camposol should immediately speak with the ayuntamiento about putting parking meters in place on this small car park, painting double yellow lines along the main road and employ a uniformed Traffic Warden in a peaked hat to issue parking fines on those who think that it’s OK to ignore them. There should also be an immediate contract tendered out for a wheel clamping operator. I will leave it to others to write in about the really inconsiderate b........s who use the three allocated disabled bays when they shouldn’t. Lazy or just downright selfish? An Anonymous Resident

Dear Mr Rutherford, I would like to respond to the feature article on page 14 of your June edition titled “What a load of C….!!! as follows: At long last somebody has written an article that I suspect the vast majority of dog-free Camposol residents are in total agreement with. Every word of the letter about dog crap and barking dogs has struck a chord with and many of my good neighbours who are equally sick of this situation and we believe the time has come to kick this problem very hard into the public arena. I live on Camposol with my registered disabled wife and unfortunately she needs a lot of sleep, which is impossible with our neighbour’s dogs barking almost continually. Having confronted the owner of the dog which orchestrates the chain reaction of all the other dogs in the immediate vicinity to start barking from early morning to late at night his reaction was to tell me “what his dog did on his property was none of my business and that was the end of the matter”. Having immigrated to Spain in the hope that the Spanish climate and a peaceful environment would help my wife to recover we are now faced with one of two choices. Either we return to the UK or we fight this selfish, irresponsible and totally inconsiderate “person” who, along with many others of his ilk on Camposol, masquerades as “good neighbours”. A measure of how despicable these people are can be demonstrated by the fact that a few euros will purchase a small harmless device Inversiones Rustisol
that can be attached to a dog’s collar which will permanently rectify the problem of barking and you can hardly say that plastic bags for picking up crap are an expensive item compared to dog food and vets bills! I would quote your June letter on the issue which reads as follows” This problem, is I’m afraid, escalating out of control on Camposol and for many is becoming an unacceptable imposition on their everyday lives. The time is now here to either ban all dogs from Camposol or at a minimum action allow a maximum of one per household” With a neighbour like mine it is in my opinion time to name and shame these irresponsible owners and unless the majority of the “responsible” dog owners take up the challenge to do something about it now, to rectify this problem permanently, then I

would certainly agree that ALL dogs be banned on Camposol and the minimum action of one dog per household is not an option. I also believe that once it becomes widely known that Camposol is a dog free area then all the unsold properties would sell very quickly, house prices could start to rise and possibly more houses would need to be built to meet the demand of folk wishing to live in a dog free area and my neighbour would be the one who would have to make the choice of returning to the UK or getting rid of his ******* dogs along with their crap and certainly not me and my wife! It is worth emphasising just how disease ridden dog crap is. Campylobacteriosis, E. Coli, Salmonellosis, Yersiniosis and Toxocariasis to name a few and some of these diseases can cause blindness, particularly in children, and even lead to death and these people are totally ambivalent to us bringing these diseases into our houses and trampling them into our carpets! Human error caused horror train crash The driver of the high-speed train, Francisco JosĂŠ GarzĂłn, had been
travelling well above the speed limit when the accident occurred, said investigators from Spain’s railway accident commission (CAIF) in a new 266-page report. He had also been distracted by a call from the train’s conductor, the report found. Investigators said the high-speed train bound for the pilgrimage city of Santiago de Compostela had been travelling at 190kph (118mph) when it entered a curve with a speed limit of just 80kph. The train crashed into a concrete embankment with four carriages overturning in the resulting smash. One was torn apart by the force of the collision, in an accident which captured world headlines.

The driver had not failed to apply the brakes to slow the train before entering the so-called Angrois curve and had not actually been driving in the 6km before the dangerous stretch of track, the CAIF said in its report. Garzón’s decision to answer a call from the train’s conductor was a contributing factor in this failure to brake, the investigators concluded. Garzón is currently facing 79 counts of negligent homicide for his role in what was Spain’s worst train accident in 40 years. While the CAIF laid the blame for the July 24th 2013 accident with the train’s driver, their report also contains a swathe of recommendations on how to improve the safety of the rail network. These include improved management of the installation of automatic braking

systems to slow trains travelling too fast and new onboard communications systems so that train drivers don’t need to receive mobile phone calls while working.

Review of Hopping
by Melanie McGrath By Anne Bennett.
This book is more about the essence of East End Londoners’ than their time told endurance for “The Londoners’ holiday”. Beautifully rendered she explores the bonds that hold families fast to one another. When the average family could but make much of simple pleasures and lean on and be kind to one another. Do as you would be done by! Set against the backdrop of an East End landscape soon to be erased by war and the social change of progress in its wake. Every summer throughout the 18th and
19th and much of the 20th Century’s hundreds of thousands of East Enders made the trip to the hop gardens of Kent to pick hops. It was the centre of the lives of many, mostly women and children who worked long hours in sometimes difficult conditions to bring in the hop harvest. The tradition of employing Londoners to pick hops in Kent began in the mid 15th Century when Flemish weavers first began cultivating the bines in the Kentish weald. At the time, hopped beer was unknown in Britain, but all over medieval Europe beer was a relatively safe substitute for water. Hopped beer could be brewed with a lower alcohol content than ale; the preferred British drink. The hop plant, Humulus lupulus, a relative of cannabis is a fast-growing herbaceous perennial which dies back to its rhizome in the winter. Mothers, in particular, looked forward to bringing their children down to the countryside for their health, and for many of them the money earned picking hops was usually the only part of the family income over which they had control which was often used to buy children the boots and coats they would need for the coming winter. Families would return to the same farms every year, in fact whole neighbourhoods would set up their London streets in the rows of hop huts. By 1878, 72,000 acres of Kent were laid to hops and 250,000 mostly women and children were making the three or four week trip into Kent to pick them, of these nearly half were Londoners and so a social and cultural event unique to Britain was born. This book although in fact a story is very much based on real life characters

first hand knowledge of the individuals mentioned, which were her grandparents, the author was able to convey and piece together an interactive family story of people leading ordinary lives in extraordinary times driven together by common wounds and a shared sense of fragility. It is well worth a read for not only its glimpse into what Britain’s capital was really like, good and bad. ! but a lesson in social and economic history for which if you did not live in London at the time and thereafter you could not begin to understand; you can’t hold back the tide, can you? Fittingly, perhaps the most recent immigrants to arrive in the East End of London are also East Europeans, who ironically are for the most part todays’ pickers in our dwindling hop gardens. They do not remember the ‘old’ East End alleys and turnings, nor do the passengers on the Eurostar, through which countryside they rush. It is for the most part the same countryside the old “hoppers” travelled through. The East End of London has always been a roiling, fluxing sort of place shaped and renewed by the energies of incomers. The only difference now is with the demise of the docks it has become a place cut off from its anchor from its original sea trading relevance. Hopping is a sequel to the best selling Silvertown by Melanie McGrath.

Technology Software company calls in English are a scam, police stress
POLICE have warned anyone who receives a call from someone claiming to be from a software support agency to hang up immediately and report the matter after getting numerous reports of computer users being defrauded out of large sums of cash. It was initially thought the con-artists were targeting expatriates, since the caller speaks in English with a south Asian accent, but Spanish victims in Segovia, Córdoba and Cádiz say they have been forced to pay
page 26
up to 200 euros a head. British residents on the Costa del Sol and Costa Blanca have reported receiving these unsolicited calls, although most hang up straight away, and similar incidences have been detected in the UK and USA. The caller, ringing from either a withheld number or with a prefix apparently from the Middle East or Asia, normally pretends to be from Microsoft and warns of a security threat affecting all computer users. To solve the ‘problem’, the bogus IT technician gives the user instructions to enable him to take control of the computer, and the potential victim can see the cursor moving around on the screen and clicking on various programmes. Next, the caller will tell the computer owner to pay a sum of money normally in region of several hundreds of euros to install a ‘security system’, usually asking for credit or debit card details. If the victim refuses, the caller will block the system rendering it unusable and irreparable. Police stress that no software firm would ring out of the blue and take control of a user’s computer, and warn residents not to allow this and not to provide their bank card numbers. In the event of receiving such a call, computer users should hang up, tell the police, and speak to their internet provider immediately to check their connection and ensure no illegal access has been made to their router.

Garmin’s New Golf Watch Will Teach You How to Swing Better
When it comes to improving your golf swing you have plenty of options. But nothing gives you insight into what you’re doing wrong quite like cold, hard data. Garmin knows this, and has updated its Approach golf watch line so you can get swing metrics as you play, right on your wrist. Garmin already has extensive experience in the GPS space for golf, both with watches and handheld units, but this is its first attempt to analyze your swing on the links. Other wrist-worn devices like the Zepp Golf track stats about your performance during your game. The implementation is different, though. Zepp’s solution is a 150€ sensor you strap onto your golf gloves. Garmin’s is a 400€ watch that blends GPS data, sensors, and smartwatch functionality. The Approach S6 comes with a full-colour touchscreen display and onscreen maps of the course you’re at (it pulls from a database of 30,000 international courses). If your aim runs afoul and your ball ends up deep in a sand trap or the woods, the watch can tell you which way to swing in case your sense of direction is lacking. But more notably, the S6 tracks
2014
your swing, right on the watch itself, with three metrics: SwingTempo, TempoTraining, and SwingStrength. The first calculates the relationship
between a golfer’s upswing and downswing as a ratio. 3:1 is the ideal, so the closer you get to that, the better. TempoTraining uses audio tones to help time your swing better. And SwingStrength tracks how much power you put into each swing. The watch can also act as a scorecard, tracking putts, shot distance, and fairways hits. After the fact, you can upload the day’s stats to Garmin Connect to analyze your data, identify trends in your performance, and get hole-by-hole details of the game. With those features, it’s equally well-suited for use on a range or on a course. In full GPS mode, it’s supposed to get 10 hours of battery life, but if you’re just using it as a watch, it will last up to 14 weeks. Garmin also packed in some smartwatch-like features: You can pair it with an iPhone 4S or later to get text, email, and missed call notifications delivered. It is expected to go on sale this autumn.
Amazon Enter The Smartphone Market Amazon has announced its first foray into the highly competitive
2014
world of mobile phones, with the e-tailer’s new Fire Phone explicitly taking on Apple’s iPhone and Samsung’s Galaxy S5. Featuring a unique 3D interface which Amazon calls “dynamic perspective”, the minimalist device also includes motionsensitive features that allow the user to access relevant features by flicking their wrist. It tracks the user’s head with four cameras to produce an image tailored to their own vision. Unveiling the device, however, chief executive Jeff Bezos portrayed the Fire Phone primarily as a gateway to Amazon’s own services, emphasising that it would predict what users might want to watch in Amazon’s TV and film catalogue. A new feature called Firefly also allows users to automatically identify realworld objects and then instantly purchase them on Amazon, or to look them up online if they are unavailable. Although the phone also features unlimited storage for digital photographs, Mr Bezos emphasised it was a device built for reading and watching films and TV. Although the Fire Phone is based on Google’s popular Android software, it uses a heavily
modified version called Fire OS, which Amazon has used on its popular Kindle Fire tablets. The company hopes that it will replicate the success of those e-reader and tablet devices, selling the Fire Phone at a low cost in order to encourage users to adopt it as either their first smartphone or because it offers the convenience of Amazon integration.
While the Firefly feature will also offer nutritional information for food it can identify, it immediately sparked fears that it would further challenge high street retailers by encouraging ‘showrooming’ in which shoppers research and test products in stores, but then buy them online. Analysts at the event said Amazon needed to demonstrate it had innovative features to justify the purchase of the phone, and praised it for innovating in relevant ways, such as improving on existing methods that allow phones to scroll through books or web pages simply by tilting them. The company has built up a huge following via its online websites and existing products, launching the Kindle eReader in 2007, the Kindle Fire tablet in 2011 and the Fire TV set-top box this year. Those platforms mean it now operates one of the largest Android app stores after Google, working in almost 200 countries. Although Facebook has previously launched a phone with HTC, Amazon itself has not attempted to compete directly with Apple or Samsung in the past. With more than 237million active customer accounts globally, comprising customers who have bought something in the last year, Amazon believes it has a head-start over other smartphone manufacturers, such as BlackBerry and Google itself, who have struggled to convince users to pay for applications and services. Dawn Llewellyn-Price If anyone has been to the Oasis at Bolnuevo on a Wednesday night, aka Spanish Night, during July and August, or any fiesta dance floor, they’ll know that the Spanish love to dance. They are born, toddle, and then dance into childhood. At least that’s how it seems, as they take the floor with an effortlessness that beguiles arthritic limbs and age, and perfectly in time for any music that may guide their feet, rumba, salsa, Paso doble, sevillianas, or the birdie song. They all hit the floor and away they go. It’s fun to watch even more fun to join in with the arm waving, fleet of foot fandango-ing which fills the floor to the point of a crush. But of course it’s Flamenco Spain is famous for, and whether it’s a festival of Flamenco like the one at La Union near Cartagena, or a trip to the Sacromonte gypsy quarter in Granada for a feast of tourist cave and spotted frocks, (I’ve been to both) it’s a form of dance which is a legend in its own lifetime. Wild and lawless gypsy barrios have the same reputation in any Spanish town, but where locals fear to tread, tourists abandon caution to the wind and tour guides, part with cash and stuff themselves into tiny caves to watch and clap along with mainly ageing dancers still displaying the skills of their youth. We took Canadian friends down to Granada, visited the Alhambra, and booked a bus to take us to a cave performance deep in the ‘dangerous’ gypsy quarter where castanets are sold as souvenirs, although rarely used except for tourist performances, and where ‘Duende’, that magical moment where the dancer becomes lost in the moment, is a far removed as crossing a palm with
silver or buying pegs off a woman in a voluminous skirt. ‘Tablaos’ are strictly for the tourists. Gypsies and flamenco are inexorably linked, while not all flamenco artistes are gypsies, the majority are, with Granada’s dynasties the Heredia, Maya and Carmona families. The encouraging shouting and clapping known in Sacromonte as zambra takes place alongside this 200 year old tradition, which probably began around campfires at the end of a working day, where someone would pick up a guitar and someone else would beat out a rhythm. On our Sacromonte adventure, Liz, our Canadian friend, was one of the first up and joining in despite the lack of space, taking photos and a memory back to Toronto marginally better than the experience of ‘Urgencias’ in Mazarron town where she ended up following dehydration and Vertigo. La Union festival is a serious spectacle where levity and angst vibrate off the stage and there’s barely a spotty frock in sight as a packed hall with rows of seats taken up by aficionados fill a huge space. A different ‘Duende.’ ‘Gitana si me quisieras, te compraria en grana la major cueva que hubiera.’ ‘Little gypsy, if you loved me I would buy you the best cave in Granada.’ Dawn Llewellyn Price

Humanists May Walk
Last walk of the season saw 21 people meet at the Oasis Restaurant in Bolnuevo for a pre-walk coffee and wee. Twenty walkers set off led by Joan. The walk went west along the coast following the wide track to the “Roman Quay” and passed the nudists (it was a warm day), around and back an inland track.
After a welcome cup or two of bubbles, the walk continued up the hill giving great views of the Bahia de Mazarrón before finishing. It was a short hop to Rincon de Elias restaurant on the Bolnuevo paseo for lunch. The meal was the usual good food and cost just 10€. The next walk will be in September or October. There are “Summer Lunch” dates so that people can keep in touch. The dates are on the web site at www. bolnuevo.com, click Humanists, or

freezer for at least 8 hrs or preferably overnight. Serve cut into slices with some berries, or sandwiched between wafers.
Chicken tikka skewers
The combination of sweet, acidic tomatoes with salty, spicy chorizo and tangy Sherry vinegar is a match made in heaven Ingredients This Italian style ice-cream is light and creamy and, best of all, you don’t need an ice-cream maker to prepare it Ingredients 1kg cherries, stones removed 400ml double cream 100g icing sugar 4 eggs, separated wafers, to serve (optional) Method Set aside a handful (about 50g) of the pitted cherries. Place the remainder in a large pan set over a medium heat with the cream and 50g icing sugar. Bring up to the boil, then gently simmer for 5 mins until the cherries start to soften. Carefully whizz in a blender, then pass through a sieve. Pour a little of the hot cherry cream over the egg yolks, whisk well, then pour back into the pan. Cook for about 5 mins more or until the mixture has thickened a little and will coat the back of a wooden spoon. Pour through a sieve into a bowl, cover the surface with cling film, then leave to cool completely. Whisk the egg whites until stiff peaks form, then whisk in the remaining 50g sugar, 1 tbsp at a time. Keep whisking until the mixture is stiff and resembles shaving foam. Stir a third of the mixture into the cooled cream, mix until it is well incorporated, then gently fold through the remaining mixture in 2 goes. Line a 900g loaf tin with cling film. Pour the mixture into the tin, then cover with cling film and place in the freezer for about 3 hrs until just starting to freeze. Stir the whole cherries into the semi-frozen mixture, then return to the
This breezy dish is perfect for the grill or barbecue - and it’s low-calorie too Ingredients 150g pot low-fat natural yogurt 2 tbsp hot curry paste 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts, cubed 250g pack cherry tomatoes 4 wholemeal chapatis, warmed, to serve For the cucumber salad ½ cucumber, halved lengthways, deseeded and sliced 1 red onion, thinly sliced handful chopped coriander leaves juice 1 lemon 50g pack lamb’s lettuces or pea shoots
3 ripe beef tomatoes, cut into wedges ½ red onion, thinly sliced few thyme sprigs, leaves picked 1 tbsp sherry vinegar 2 tbsp extra-virgin olive oil 100g chorizo, sliced on the diagonal Method Put the tomatoes in a bowl with the onion and thyme. Season, then drizzle with the vinegar and oil. Let the flavours mingle while you cook the chorizo. In a hot, dry pan, fry the chorizo slices until browned on both sides. Serve the tomatoes with the fried chorizo, drizzled with a little oil from the pan.
Method Put 8 wooden skewers in a bowl of water to soak. Mix the yogurt and curry paste together in a bowl, then add the chicken (if you have time, marinate for an hr or so). In a large bowl, toss together the cucumber, red onion, coriander and lemon juice. Chill until ready to serve. Shake off any excess marinade, then thread the chicken pieces and cherry tomatoes onto the pre-soaked skewers. Cook under a medium grill for 15-20 mins, turning from time to time, until cooked through and nicely browned. Don’t miss Stir the lettuce or pea shoots into the salad, then divide between 4 plates. Top each serving with 2 chicken tikka skewers and serve with the warm chapatis.

Los Palacios Gardening & Community Group
On Saturday 31st May, Forget me Knot resurrected the ancient tradition of “Well Dressing”. This was truly a joint community event, but nobody was sure exactly what form this would take. We didn´t have to worry, the end result was spectacular. The well on Parque Los Palacios was dressed with paintings and works art, all submitted by local people. Annette and her art group produced some amazing pictures as can be seen in the photo below. Many infirm guests attended from Forget me Not and Mabs, aided by professional carers from Helping Hands Homecare and Costa Calida Care Services, all of which provided their time free of
charge. FAST were also in attendance, fortunately not needed. The Reverend Maureen Kent, from St. Nicholas Church kindly said a few words and the hymn sheets were provided by Miles Better Water Filters. The musicians, Cliff, Brian and Antonio performed for free. The food was gifted by volunteers and we received an estimated 61 euros worth of plants, all of which, with the exception of 1 large tree, have now been placed in more suitable growing areas, some in the Memorial Garden and the rest in the well area. David Senior-Peake acted as liaison between the Groups and must also be congratulated for the end result.
Another great social event not to be missed is the Los Palacios Gardening & Community Group´s Summer Carnival in Mariano´s outside bar on 11th July, hosted by Barrington. B Clean Mid Summer Newsletter Now the hot weather is with us we will be taking a summer break starting at the end of June until it begins to cool down in the autumn. All the heavier work planned last month has now been completed. Thanks to all those who turned up to help spread the gravel along the strip of land at the side of the Rambla road leading from the bottom of the dual carriageway to the bridge. We are looking forward to planting some shrubs and trees when the cooler months return. Watering of the shrubs will continue to be necessary and we are arranging for an additional water tank to be sited on the Cultural Centre to B15 road, so if anyone can spare the occasional hour to give the plants a drink during the summer, please feel free to do so - and thank you. On Sunday 8th June, some of our group were able to join with others in the Community Litter Clean Up event organized by the Council. Thanks to all who gave assistance. Whilst on the subject of litter clearing The task is becoming ever more unpleasant by people who fail to clear up their dog’s mess. It is not the dog who leaves it there; it is the owner. It is unpleasant, anti social, dangerously unhealthy and illegal. To those who would choose to ignore this message, we ask you to remember that it is not only your dog that uses the uncultivated wild areas as a play ground, and the flies that settle on your sandwich or wine glass are not taking their first meal of the day! ‘B Clean’ Community Group Scheme continues to gradually attract more subscribing members and we are grateful to all those who have already
joined and also to those who so kindly stop to donate as they drive past our working volunteers. We hope that many more residents will join the scheme and subscribe just 5 euros a month to help us keep Camposol looking great. If you are interested and willing to add your name to the growing list of members, please contact Sandy or Helen for details (See below.) The more subscribers we have - the better Camposol will look. Planning of future projects takes place at our monthly meetings on the last Tuesday of each month at Trevi’s 4 till 5 p.m. Starting again at the end of September. Please come and tell us what improvements you would like to see happen. If you are interested in joining the Scheme, or can offer any physical help, please let us know. Meantime, have a wonderful summer. Information: SANDY (Treasurer): 968986030 email sanandstu@gmail.com HELEN (Secretary) : 968199506 email helenwhite522@gmail.com
Camposol ‘C’ Green Fingers Gardening and Social Group Our annual barbeque was a real success; dancing to Paul Allen and enjoying the food ably provided by the Golf Club this year! Special mention must go to all those who donated their time and hard work. Also, a huge thank-you to local restaurants who kindly provided prize meal packages for our raffle: Oscar’s Bar, Liz’s Café, La Vida Bar/Restaurant and Costa Café, much appreciated! The maintenance team will still be clearing, weeding and spraying all streets on ‘C’ as usual throughout the hotter months, even though the volunteer working parties have now finished for the summer. Thanks to all who have given us their time and efforts: it really makes a difference! All the palms have now been pruned along the dual carriageway and 40 more trees and shrubs have been planted in both of the garden areas at the bottom near the rambla. They have been well watered in but this needs to continue as they are not established yet because of the driest conditions we can remember; If you would like to give any plants near your home or holiday home a drink or leave any full water bottles behind the Welcome Wall if possible, it would be very much appreciated. Both areas are looking lovely but will take a huge commitment to keep everything alive
until the cooler months. Unfortunately, there have been more thefts; two ornamental figures have disappeared from the new garden area, please be vigilant and report these thieves. Thanks now to everyone for donations to our bucket: this month we had a record amount! It all helps further improvements made to ‘C’ Sector North, which is improving every month. Please note that John, our Chairman, has arranged discount home and car insurance through Liberty Seguros for Green Fingers members; please see the website for details. Also, save the date for our Christmas Meal and Dance on Wednesday, 3rd December at the Golf Club House, with Lenny Mitchell. Further details can be found on our Chalkboards or contact us on 634 325 427. Vaginal yeast infection Vaginal yeast infection is an infection of the vagina. It is most commonly due to the fungus Candida albicans. Causes Most women have a vaginal yeast infection at some time. Candida albicans is a common type of fungus. It is often found in small amounts in the vagina, mouth, digestive tract, and on the skin. Most of the time, it does not cause infection or symptoms. Candida and the many other germs that normally live in the vagina keep each other in balance. However, sometimes the number of Candida increases, leading to a yeast infection. This can happen if: You are taking antibiotics used to treat another infection. Antibiotics change the normal balance between germs in the vagina. You are pregnant You are overweight You have diabetes A yeast infection is not spread through sexual contact. Health &Wellbeing Epidermis: This top layer of the skin is very thin. It contains three types of cells: Squamous cells, below this are cells called basal cells. Cells called melanocytes are also in the epidermis. Melanoma occurs when melanocytes become malignant. Dermis: This middle layer of the skin is much thicker than the epidermis. It contains hair shafts, sweat glands, blood vessels, and nerves. Subcutis: This deepest layer of the skin contains proteins and fat. Why melanoma is usually brown or black? Because most of melanocytes make melanin, melanoma tumors are often brown or black. But this is not always the case, and melanomas can also appear pink, tan, or even white.
Where occurs melanoma? Melanoma most often starts on the trunk (chest or back), head or neck in men and on the legs of women, but it can start in other places, too, in fact Melanoma can occur on any skin surface. Melanoma, rarely arise in the meninges, eyes, digestive tract or some other areas where melanocytes are found. What are de risks factors of melanoma? People at high risk for developing melanoma are those who have: A family history of or have had a melanoma in the past. Unusual moles on the skin, or changing moles. Fair skin, light hair and eye color, who sunburn easily or tan with difficulty. A history of painful or blistering sunburns as children or teenagers (more than 3 times). Melanoma is rare in black and dark-skinned people. Having dark skin lowers the risk of melanoma, but a person with dark skin can still get melanoma.

If melanoma moles are not removed in the early stages, the cancer cells can grow downward into the healthy tissues and nearly lymphs nodes . However, it can almost always be cured in its early stages. Other types of skin tumors: Most skin tumors are not cancer (they are benign). These rarely, if ever, turn into cancer. Some of them include: Mole (also called a nevus): Almost all of them are harmless, but some types can raise your risk of melanoma. Sports Where are the May flowers?….. Due to the lack of rain many courses are suffering and are unable to display themselves at their best. There are very few of the natural flowers around that we should be seeing at this time of the year. Peraleja, where we held our monthly Stapleford competition, is one of the few still maintaining fairways and green in good condition, although it is sad to see dying fish in one of the lakes. Over 30 members arrived on time and with a split start on 1 & 10 we were able to get away smartly at 10am. It was anticipated that with this start we would be hoping for a reasonably quick round, but for reasons which we haven’t got to the bottom of yet, the last four, which included the Club secretary seemed to get lost on the course and arrived at the 19th hole sometime after everyone else. One member, who was in the lead at the time, had the wind taken from his sails
Dave Bennett was second with 35 points, followed in a close tie for third by Paul Allsop and Jim Booth on 34. Nearest the pin winners were Dave Bennett, and Joe Chalk. We have received notes from the handicap secretary that his pencil is sharpened and the top four can all expect a change in handicap, and the press secretary has commented on the lack of society shirt by the winner. “I forgot” is not an acceptable excuse!!!!!!!!!! We hoped to have had a great BBQ evening at the end of June. July fixtures will be posted on the web site as soon as they are available Geoff Sharp hatters45@msn.com
Los Amigos De Mazarrón F.C
LOS AMIGOS DE MAZARON FC LATEST NEWS Three successive defeats meant that Mazarron finished the season in it’s lowest position since the Los Amigos de Mazarron FC Supporters Club was formed back in 2006. However, there were still a number of high points during the season which give hope for a new push for promotion in the 2014-15 season. In Jose Ruben and Tolo, Mazarron had two of the leading goal scorers in the league and, if these players can be retained along with other experienced players like Cecilio, Alfonso, Tico and Moha, and the emerging talents of younger players like Randry and Dani, there is no reason why this cannot be achieved. Next season is crucial for Mazarron FC. Support from Los Amigos will always be there but the local Spanish fans are fast disappearing. The Club must make a determined effort to achieve promotion next year. For a town like Mazarron to be struggling in the division it is in now is not acceptable.
when George Bicknell in the last group arrived with a score of 39 points to take the trophy.

The Mazarron FC President Jose Rodriguez does a fabulous job in running the Club almost single handed and his efforts are much appreciated but he cannot do it alone. It has been said for the last few years that he needs help and backing from the Spanish community to supplement the excellent support he

receives from the ex-pat community and this is now needed more than ever. Of the teams which Mazarron FC runs at junior levels in five age groups, the Juveniles (17/18s) and Cadetes (15/16s) teams gained promotion from their respective divisions. The Alevins (11/12s) finished in third place in their division, just missing out on promotion. Cecilio was the choice of Los Amigos supporters as Mazarron’s Player of the Year and he received his trophy at the annual end of season function which was held this year at the Club House, Camposol Club de Golf on Tuesday 3rd June. Jose Ruben received the coveted Players’ Player of the Year award which is voted for by the players themselves. Mazarron players joined members and friends and enjoyed a great night with an excellent barbeque and entertainment from Woody which kept everyone on the dance floor until late in the evening. The hugely successful luncheon club enjoyed another great afternoon at Los Balcones, Canovas del Romero in May and, on 24th June, visited the Restaurante Castillo Del Pinar in Perin. On this occasion it was decided to forsake the standard Menu del Dia and choose the famous five course option with five different accompanying wines option at a cost of 15€ per head. There will be a report on the June function in next month’s edition. There will be another Luncheon Club outing in July and if you would like to join us please email Barbara on pamada.1130@yahoo.co.uk for full details including coach travel for the many who will wish to over-indulge!! Tickets are now on sale for the annual Los Amigos “President’s Bash” which this year will be held at Mariano’s on Tuesday 7th October. Following the success of the evenings with The Liverpool Band and Soul Power in the last two years, we have again lined up a fabulous evening for October. This year we have a “Legends Past and Present Evening” with two great individual tribute acts, one to the past legend John Lennon and the other to the present legend Gary Barlow. For this annual event we have prided ourselves on trying to bring the best possible entertainment to Camposol, acts which have rarely or never been seen here and this year is no exception. Alan Swoffer is flying in from the UK to bring the music of Lennon to the stage in a stunning musical tribute which he has been performing for 16 years. As well as being an exceptional singer, Alan is a Lennon lookalike and has appeared in a number of films as John Lennon including “The Truth” starring Damien Lewis and the blockbuster movie “The Bank Job” starring Jason Statham.

We are also delighted to have with us Kriz-K who will be performing the Gary Barlow tribute. Kriz is a talented musician who has appeared alongside Phillip Schofield in “Joseph and His Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat” at London’s Hammersmith Apollo Theatre. In 2009 he appeared on tour with JLS as support act and in the same year developed his Michael Buble Tribute Act which went from strength to strength, so much so that he was recognised as the World’s Number One Buble Tribute Act. Kriz was asked to develop a Gary Barlow Tribute a couple of years ago and this has proved an equally resounding success with a European Tour this summer. The Gary Barlow Tribute will take you on an emotional roller coaster and includes some of the early and the latest Take That songs as well as all the best Gary Barlow tracks. Tickets are now on sale for the Legends Past and Present Evening and are just 10€ each without supper or 15€ with supper. There is a choice of either chicken and chips or burger and chips and your ticket will indicate which you have chosen so there will be no confusion on the night!!!

Getting Equipment fitted to your Game Lower Irons Club Fitting A wedge is designed to lift a ball quickly from a short distance and each wedge is measured in degrees (angle of the clubface). The degree of all your wedges are very important as the loft of the club will make a difference to how far you can hit it. Ideally, you should choose wedge lofts that will allow you to carry distances from your most common approach yardages. If you find yourself often within a 100 yard range on approach then the proper wedge loft would be one that would allow you to carry that distance using a full swing. List of wedge degree lofts:

A number of other exiting events are being considered for the coming months including a visit to Golf Delux Adventure Golf in Los Alcazares and another Go-Karting Grand Prix at the excellent circuit in Puerto de Mazarron. We also hope to have news shortly of the 6th Annual Gala Evening and Dinner which is scheduled for March of next year.
* Lob Wedge – 58 to 64°
As usual during the summer, the weekly Los Amigos meetings have been suspended for the month of July and the next meeting will be at the Club House, Camposol Club de Golf on Thursday 7th August but some members will be popping over to the Golf Club on Thursday afternoons during July for a drink and a chat, so why not join them? Membership of Los Amigos de Mazarron FC runs from 1st August each year and costs 10€. Our Secretary Barbara Marchant is accepting membership renewals by email during July on pamada.1130@yahoo.co.uk or in person (by prior arrangement only) at the Golf Club on a Thursday afternoon.
* Approach/Gap Wedge – 50 to 53° * Sand Wedge – 54 to 57° Another key component to choosing the correct wedge is bounce. While commonly overlooked, bounce is the angle of the club’s sole to the ground. A wedge with high a bounce angle will usually yield better results when hitting out of loose bunker sand or high grass. Similarly, a lower bounce wedge is better employed on courses with tight lies and thin bunker sand. So, if there is a common course you play and the terrain seems almost the same each time out, you should take that into consideration when selecting what bounce is most appropriate in your wedges.
Fundamentally, a golf ball performs differently depending on the type of golfer you are. For example you may be better off selecting Ball A over Ball B - if Ball A helps you control for excessive spin generated by the swing; or you may be better off selecting Ball C over Ball D, if you don’t crave distance, but instead want a ball that has increased feel around the greens. Maybe you’re a golfer looking for pure distance, but have low club head speed. Then, you just might be better off with Ball E. If you want to work the ball a bit more or want better stopping power hitting into greens then Ball F may be the best choice for you. I hope the above information helps when choosing your golf equipment, if you need any assistance with any aspect of your game please don’t hesitate to e mail Ben Stokes or phone me, e mail golfstop@live.com or phone 634332476

Ball speed, angle of impact, launch angle and spin rate on the ball are all fundamental mechanical factors that affect ball performance. Golf ball construction, compression and cover hardness are also critical parameters. Moreover, golfers have different demands on a ball in terms of distance, control and feel - and those demands change over time and depending on course conditions and location. In other cases, some golfers place emphasis on value for money in selecting a ball for play. In fact, the selection of the right ball requires matching the ball to your unique swing characteristics and game objectives.

Mazda MX-5 25th Birthday 2014 marks the 25th birthday of the Mazda MX-5, and the automaker is celebrating by sending the convertable on a trip through the Green Hell. Mazda has handed over a production 2014 MX-5 to UK-based JOTA Sport to prepare it for the 24 Hour Nürburgring Endurance Race in Germany . The Nürburgring, dubbed the Green Hell by Formula One driver Jackie Stewart, is one of the world’s toughest circuits. The Miata will compete in the V3 class, which is limited to soft-topped vehicles with 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated engines. British racecar builders JOTA will be handling the race modifications to the car, but there’s not much to do. V3 class car are required to be kept nearly identical to their production variant, so JOTA will just be adding some racing-spec safety gear like a roll-bar, and a few sponsor stickers. Go to a Mazda dealer, and the MX-5 with its 167 hp four-cylinder engine and sixspeed manual gearbox won’t be much different from what you see on the track for this race. Four drivers (Stefan Johansson, Wolfgang Kaufmann, Teruaki Kato, and journalist Owen Mildenhall) will take turns racing around the

Nordschleife and Grand Prix Circuit. The path for this race is just over 15 miles long.
The race plans come just following the Miata’s 25th anniversary and the conclusion of production for the thirdgeneration model. Consider this race to be the current MX-5’s ceremonious send-off as the next iteration arrives. If you’re unfamiliar with the two-seat roadster civilian car that will become this racer, know that it gets dismissed as a “chick car,” but remains one of the great automotive feats of recent history. The original (and its successors, generally) was light and graceful with enough engine to make it a joy to take around corners, even within the speed limit.
Big-Name Drivers Flock to the First Fully Electric Racing Series
Jarno Trulli and Nick Heidfeld are the latest big-name drivers to sign on for the allelectric Formula E series that kicks off later this Autumn. The two aces bring the total up to 40 drivers competing this season, which opens September 13 in Beijing. The depth of talent underscores just how seriously the drivers, and the 10 teams competing in Formula E, are taking the series and the effort the FIA is

putting into making it succeed. “Formula E is a really exciting project and a really big innovation in motor racing,” says Sebastien Bourdais, who has competed in Champ Car, F1 and Le Mans. “You don’t get to be a part of such technological advances very often in a career.” While there is some hand-wringing over the viability of the sport–which, at this point, is essentially a spec series with Dallara providing the chassis and McLaren most of the electronics–any problems with e-racing won’t stem from lack of talent. In January, the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile launched the Drivers’ Club as a talent pool for teams to draw on; the roster includes former F1 drivers Sebastien Buemi, Nick Heidfeld, Takuma Sato, Bruno Senna, Jarno Trulli, and Lucas di Grassi. Even The Stig got a seat. Ben Collins, the 39-year-old former Formula 3, GT and stock car racer has signed on to race during this year’s inaugural season, but he’s most well known for this part in the insanely popular show Top Gear. He’s also done stunt driving work for Hollywood, including the latest James Bond movies, Quantum of Solace, Casino Royale, and Skyfall. Trulli and Heidfeld were among four drivers announced Wednesday. Trulli is an old

Property, Financial and Legal WILL YOU OR WONT YOU MAKE A WILL ???? A frequently asked question is whether a foreign owner of property in Spain should make a Spanish will. As a foreigner you are able, unlike a Spaniard, to decide who inherits your property. The law of inheritance in Spain establishes a clear division of the inheritance. A parent must leave twothirds of the inheritance to his offspring, with the surviving spouse having a right to certain assets of the marriage. The inheritance is dealt with under the law of obligatory heirss, which dictates that the estate most be divided in three equal parts. One-third must be left in equal parts to the surviving issue. Onethird must also be left to the surviving issue, but divided in a way decided by the deceased. However, the surviving spouse has a life interest in this onethird share and the inheritor cannot dispose of it until the death of the surviving spouse. One-third can be left to whomever the deceased wishes. Anyone who has assets in Spain and dies without making a Spanish Will will die “INTESTATE” which means that his or her estate will be exposed to the risk of the vagaries of the Spanish law – as well

Property, Financial and Legal first Will has to include a certain form of words – without which their estate will be subjected to the Spanish law. This is NOT TRUE – When an English person makes a Spanish Will effectively this process dictates that you wish your Spanish estate to be subject to the rights of succession as dictated by the UK. That is your legal right. However, for the avoidance of doubt there will be a paragraph in your Will which makes that clear. Anyone who has any concerns about a Spanish Will already made, or one they wish to make, or even if they don’t understand why they should make a Spanish Will, then please contact me to fix a date and time to discuss the matter.

thank you to all those people who helped make that happen, you know who you are! Miel is recovering well and is now at home getting some much needed TLC after her ordeal.
As things hot up weather-wise, so they do for all the Animal Charities, with unwanted litters of puppies and kittens, abandonments and cases of neglect. It is certainly no different for AAR. We had a crate of three unwanted puppies handed in to our shop last month by a Spanish family. We agreed to take them provided they let us spay their bitch to avoid any further unwanted litters, which they agreed to. The pups unfortunately contracted parvo virus and were taken to our vets where they are still receiving treatment, but hopefully they seem to be recovering slowly.
Thanks for all your help and support as always Enjoy the Summer! Love and hugs Andrea xxxxxx
MABS EVENTS IN MAZARRÓN Up-coming events
Our new edition to the Donkeys, ‘Honey’, is doing well. She is gaining weight and settling in well with the others. She, along with some of our longer serving members, are looking for that special someone who has the space and love in their heart to adopt them. If you are unable to re-home one but would like to help, why not consider sponsorship? For a regular payment of a few Euros each month you could help with the upkeep of one of our donkeys, it would make a big difference. Any information on any of the donkeys can be found on the website or by contacting me. I would be happy to help. We have the stunning Savanna, a 14.2hh 6yr old Bay mare, with a lovely temperament, still looking for her forever home. Could she be the valuable new edition to your family if you have the space and are equine minded? You would not be disappointed with her. Miel, a X-Mastin female dog of approx 18 mths, was found at the side of the road after a hit and run accident, left for dead. After recovering her to our vets, we found she had three fractures to her front leg, one to her back and air in her lungs due to the impact! A very poorly girl! We had to give her a chance, so after an appeal for donations we were able to go ahead with the operations she required at a cost of 2000 Euros! So a BIG BIG

With Wimbledon under-way here are some tennis jokes not all are funny but they are topical! Q: What do you serve but not eat? A: A Tennis Ball.
Q: Where do ghosts play tennis? A: On a tennis corpse! Q: What is the definition of endless love? A: Ray Charles and Stevie Wonder playing tennis
Little girl: “Why does your son say, ‘Cluck, cluck, cluck?’” Mother: “Because he thinks he’s a chicken.”
Q: Why is a tennis game a noisy game? A: Because each player raises a racket. Q: What do a dentist and a tennis coach have in common? A: They both use drills! Q: What did the tennis ball say when it got hit? A: Who’s making all the racquet? Q. Where is the first tennis match mentioned in the Bible? A. When Joseph served in Pharaoh’s court. Q: Why do elephants wear green tennis shoes? A: To hide in the tall, tall grass. Q: Why is it not good to play tennis in a court? A: Because you might get arrested
Q: Why are fish never good tennis players? A: They don’t like getting close to the net. Q: How many tennis players does it take to change a light bulb? A: “What do you mean it was out, it was in!” Q: What’s the hardest thing about learning to play tennis? A: Telling your parents that your gay! Q: What did one tennis ball say to the other tennis ball? A: “See you round..” Q: Why should you never fall in love with a tennis player? A: To them, “Love” means nothing.
Last month’s Suduko answers
Q: Why is it good to stand on the service line? A: Because you can order ice cream Q. Why did the elephant float down the river on his back? A: So he wouldn’t get his tennis shoes wet. Q: What do you call a blonde tennis player with two brain cells? A: Pregnant Q: What’s a horse’s favorite sport? A: Stable Tennis. While out one morning in the park, a jogger found a brand new tennis ball, and seeing no one around it might belong to, he slipped it into the pocket of his shorts. Later, on his way home, he stopped at the pedestrian crossing, waiting for the lights to change. A blonde girl standing next to him eyed the large bulge in his shorts. “What’s that?” she asked, her eyes gleaming with lust. “Tennis ball,” came the breathless reply. “Oh,” said the blonde sympathetically, “that must be painful.... I had tennis elbow once.”
Little girl: “Why don’t you tell him he’s not a chicken?” Mother: “Because we need the eggs.” A man goes to Spain and attends a bullfight. Afterwards he goes to a nearby restaurant and orders the specialty of the day. The waiter brings him two very big balls on a huge plate, which the tourist eats with relish. The next day he goes to the same restaurant again, once again orders the specialty of the day, and he is brought two very big balls on a huge plate. It tastes even more scrumptious. The third day he does the same and the fourth, but on the fifth day he goes to the restaurant and orders the specialty of the day, and they bring him two very small balls on a big plate. The man asks, “What gives?” And the waiter says, “Senor, the bullfighter doesn’t always win!”
Answers to last month’s Riddles A: He is a pilot in the cabin of the airplane. A: He was born in hospital room 1940. A: 9, because including Mrs. Paige there is 4 daughters. A: One of the people at the table has the pie tin with a piece of pie in it in front of them.
