JOURNAL
THE Dear Readers,
Welcome to the May 2015 edition of The Journal! This month we have lots in store for you! As always this edition is packed with news, features and a plethora of other things to keep you entertained! We interview our resident agony uncle Paul Cosco about his life, work and why being a councillor means so much to him, our monthly word search is vegetable themed (its good be random sometimes) and the joke page is hilarious as always! Things are heating up for the local May elections with lots of activity from the political parties taking place in and around the area. Whoever you choose to vote for, the important thing is to make your voice heard, by attending the polling station and actually VOTING! As we go to print the details of who attends which polling station are still ongoing. We will keep you updated via our Facebook page. Or those of you haven’t been on there search for “The Journal Spain” and hit the “Like” button. You will find lots of interesting, up to the minute news on there, as well as lots of videos and pictures of cute animals! Last month was April Fool’s day, and both Danny and I are delighted that we caught so many people out with the upside down front cover. Just to clarify, the story about the “Pet Tax” was completely made up- an April fool. Most people understood that, but I was widely criticised for giving the town hall ideas! After a very busy Semana Santa, Café Bar El Faro is reopening its doors for the summer! For the months of May it will be open every weekend from 3.30pm till late! Head up and enjoy the best views around! The property market continues to show great signs of recovery, and now has never been a better time to buy! If you are buying property and need to move funds, then check out the new Currencies Direct advert in the Property and Finance Section. You could get up to 5% more than sending with your regular bank. Remember to tell them that you found their advert in The Journal! We would like to politely remind our advertisers and contributors that our deadline is the 13th of the month. Being punctual with your submissions and advert changes is very, very much appreciated. Have a great month everyone, and thanks for reading. Robert Rutherford

Barcelona bans tourists from famous market
there’s a difference between a couple or a family browsing and a group of 10 or 15 people being taken round, often by a guide.
everyone involved,â€? Davies added. The measure comes in the wake of a petition by stallholders at La Boqueria to Barcelona’s market institute requesting that group access be limited to avoid overcrowding. The objective is to “assist the proper development of market activity and avoid blockages inside the marketâ€?. The restrictions follow a series other measures to tackle overcrowding at some of Barcelona’s most famous sites, such as the Gaudi-designed Parc GĂźell. But for Dobson, tackling the tourism problem in Barcelona is about striking a balance. “Of course locals get annoyed when the places they frequent on a daily basis are overrun with tourists but they have to understand they are an important part of the economy,â€? he said.
In yet another step to control tourism in the city, Barcelona’s iconic La Boqueria market is to ban large tourist groups. With its entrance just off the bustling thoroughfare of La Rambla, the Mercat de Sant Josep de la Boqueria, known simply as La Boqueria, is one of Barcelona’s biggest tourist attractions. But, in yet another move to quell the growing unrest between locals and tourists, the market has banned groups of more than 15 tourists from entering the market during the busiest times of the week – Friday and Saturday mornings. Barcelona’s city hall has put the regulations in motion, it announced in a statement Large tourist groups will be banned from the market between 8am, and 3pm. For Rob Dobson, a Barcelona expert who runs the Homage to BCN blog, the new regulations are a positive step: “I think the new plan is a good idea. I’m a bit surprised it hasn’t been implemented before, he told said. “Of course tourists are part of the makeup and economy of this city and a huge part of La Boqueria on any day, but
“A group of 15 is still a bit large in my opinion but I think everyone will benefit from the new regulations in the end. If tourist groups of over 15 people do visit the market during the restricted hours, security guards will inform them of the rules and escort them out, according to Catalan daily, La Vanguardia.
“Give them (the tourists) a map, point out the most interesting stalls and let them discover it for themselves, I say. That way they’re more likely to buy things, too, which is good for

And for savvy locals maybe the best idea is just to avoid the market at peak time. “I would never go to either Park GĂźell or La Boqueria on a Friday or Saturday,â€? said Dobson, “that would be utter madness on my part.â€?
“As a person who does genuinely need to stop in La Boqueria from time to time, I find those huge groups of tourists a real pain, Barcelonabased writer and travel expert Sally Davies said.

First house sold by lottery ticket in Spain A fourbedroom town house near Castellón worth €90,000 now has a new owner who won it with a €10 lottery ticket. The Bolumar family came up with the idea of offloading the property through a lottery after struggling to sell the home they inherited when an elderly relative died two years ago. In a stagnant property market and with little hope of a new buyer finding a bank willing to lend, the family realized it would be a struggle to sell the home for
page 6
what it was worth using the traditional market. “When we put it on the market, a few people showed an interest but no bank was willing to issue a mortgage,” explained Pepe Bolumar, 35, the grandson of the original owner. “So one day I came up with the idea of raffling off the property.” It took more than a year to set up and a struggle through bureaucratic processes to stage but on the last Sunday of March the lottery took place and the house in Segorbe became the property of the winning lottery ticket holder. The house was offered through a website and attracted participants from across Spain and abroad. “For the price of just €10 someone has won a house in perfect condition and they won’t have to pay a cent more because all the costs are included,” Bolumar said
will now act as consultants on others who want to offer their home through a lottery. “We were the first to do this in Spain but it could benefit others,” said Bolumar who believes it offers benefits to both the vendor and the lottery winner.

REGISTERING YOUR VEHICLE IN SPAIN. SPANISH LICENSE PLATES AND REGISTRATION DOCUMENT. Registering a non-Spanish vehicle in Spain is a complex and potentially costly procedure. However, you may be exempt from Spanish registration tax by getting Spanish number plates within one month of entering the country. But to do this, you need to become a resident. Linea Directa has been insuring expat drivers in Spain for over a decade and understands all the steps involved. Below we outline this process. STEP 1: OBTAINING A CERTIFICATE OF CONFORMITY This is a statement by the car’s manufacturer that it conforms to EU regulations. You will need the car’s chassis number to complete this straightforward process online at www.eurococ.eu/en/certificate_ of_conformity. The charges for this service will vary according to type of vehicle, make and country of 1st registration. STEP 2: CURRENT LOG BOOK The vehicle’s original log book

and 56€ for diesel-engine cars.
STEP 3: RESIDENCY IN SPAIN
The Spanish Tax Agency can provide your vehicle with a valid “tax disc” for Spain, which must be carried in the car when in use. You will need to complete the relevant form online and pay the amount according to your car’s tax band. You can carry out all these procedures yourself or you can seek the assistance of an accountant to do this for you. We hope the information provided in this article is of interest.
The Spanish residency certificate (Certificado de Empadronamiento) is your official proof of residency in Spain. Your local town hall can provide you with this document. You will need to take your passport and proof of Spanish address (rental contract, contract to purchase or property deeds). STEP 4: OBTAINING A SPANISH MOT CERTIFICATE
Step 5: OBTAINING A SPANISH EQUIVALENT OF A TAX DISC

The number of illegal immigrants arriving in Spain jumped by 68 percent during 2014, the majority entering via Spain’s north African territories using fake documentation. The number of illegal immigrants entering Spain through Ceuta and Melilla alone increased by more than half during 2014 compared to the year before with a surge in refugees arriving from Syria. But although the headlines have given the most attention to those attempting to cross into the enclaves by climbing the fences, the majority of those who entered Spain did so with forged documentation presented at the border. The total of 12,549 illegal immigrants in 2014 was a big jump from the year before when 7,472 entered Spain illegally, according to Spanish Interior Ministry information. The data, showed that Syrians comprised the largest group of migrants and that about 60 percent of all those arriving in Spain entered through its north African enclaves. In Ceuta, 1,666 people entered illegally while another 5,819 entered Melilla without permission in 2014 - up from a

The data has upset the parliamentarian who requested it because he believes too much is being made of Spain’s immigration problem while not enough is done for the vulnerable trying to reach here. Spanish leaders called for more international cooperation in combating illegal immigration at a meeting on Monday of Euro-Mediterranean leaders in Barcelona focused on immigration and terrorism. The country has stepped up security in the African cities in recent years, pledging €2.1 million ($2.9 million) last year to boost border enforcement between Morocco and the territories.
Spain has been slammed for its treatment of immigrants at its borders with Morocco. In a report last month human rights organization Amnesty International accused Spain of carrying out unlawful deportations to Morocco and the unnecessary or excessive use of force by law enforcement officials at the enclave borders.

Police have arrested one of Italy’s most wanted mafia crime bosses as he went to collect a money transfer on the Costa del Sol. Lucio Morrone, 53, aka ‘Spalluzzella’, was detained on a European Arrest Warrant in a joint operation between the Civil Guard and Italian Carabinieri. He fled Italy five years ago and had been living under an assumed name in the popular resort of Benalmadena in southern Spain. Morrone appears on a list of 100 Most Wanted Italian fugitives and was wanted for crimes related to drug trafficking and “involvement in criminal mafia activity”. In a statement released by Spain’s Civil Guard he was described as “the head of a dangerous clan of the Neopolitan Camorra”. Morrone is thought to be the leader

of the “Teste Matte” (Crazy Heads) criminal organization which ran illicit operations in Naples’ Spagnoli area. The arrest came just days after another Italian crime boss was arrested just a few miles along the coast in San Pedro de Alcántara. Carlo Leone, a member of the Naples’ Elia clan was involved in international drug trafficking. Undersecretary of Defense Gioacchino Alfano praised Naples’ carabinieri on the operation. “Once again, legality and justice have prevailed over deceit and criminality,” Alfano told Italy’s Ansa agency. “For this umpteenth success I congratulate the Naples police and investigative teams, who have shown that they never give up,” he said.
Gays are biggest targets in Spain’s hate crimes Forty percent of the 1,285 hate crimes reported to police across Spain last year targeted gays and lesbians, the interior ministry has said There were a total of 513 hate crimes motivated by sexual orientation or sexual identity reported to police in 2014, a

13.5 percent increase over the previous year, the ministry said in a report. The vast majority of the victims, 72 percent, were women. Hate crimes motivated by race accounted for 37 percent of last year’s tally, while those that targeted disabled people accounted for 15.5 percent. The total number of hate crimes reported last year was 9.6 percent higher than the figure for 2013, the first year Spain collected figures. The interior ministry said the rise was due to more complete recordkeeping and the fact that more people feel comfortable coming forward, the ministry said. Interior Minister Jorge Fernandez Diaz said last year’s figures did not include complaints made to the regional police force in the northern Basque Country for “technical reasons”. The publication of national hate crime figures last year for the first time helped throw the spotlight on the problem, leading more people to feel comfortable to file complaints, he added. A quarter of the victims of the hate crimes reported last year were under the age of 18. In most cases the culprits were identified. “Impunity for hate crimes does not exist,” the interior minister said.

decade between 2002 and 2011. Since the millenium Europe has experienced its hottest years on record.
bring climate change to the attention of politicians in the run up to the United Nations’ Climate Change Conference to be held in Paris in December 2015. “The problem is that the Spanish government is currently conducting a series of measures that are completely contrary to the fight against climate change,” Gómez Cantero said. “Oil drilling, fracking, high taxes for installing solar panels… they are causing a serious problem because while the UN calls for the elimination of fossil fuels as early as possible, Spain is still looking for more and more.” Gómez Cantero also wants to raise awareness among the general public about the daily effects of climate change. The objective is “to reach as much of the population as we can to make them aware of and understand how climate change has affected people and the environment,” Gómez Cantero said
Some of Spain’s most famous crops could be at risk as temperatures are set to rise by as much as 5 degrees if nothing is done to tackle climate change, a new report warns. Spain could be basking in temperatures similar to those in North Africa by 2050 if the climate change continues to affect the country and the current rate, according to a new report The report, Cambio Climático en Europa 1950-2050 (Climate Change in Europe 1950-2050) by Spanish climatologist Jonathan Gómez Cantero warns that some of Spain’s most famous and successful crops could be at risk if nothing is done to tackle climate change. Andalusian olives, lemons in Valencia and even the country’s vineyards in La Rioja could all be at risk if temperatures rise to equal those of Morocco, according to the report. In Europe, the rate of warming has been 0.2 degrees above the world average and the continent experienced its hottest ever
The picture is even bleaker in Spain, which has experienced a rise in temperature of 0.5 degrees during every decade since the beginning of the 20th century. Add to this the decrease in precipitation since 1950 and you have a country that has become both significantly warmer and drier. “The new report shows that climate change is already a reality in Spain,” Jonathan Gómez Cantero, who authored the report and is a member of the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change. “People need to be informed and know the reality of this phenomenon,” he added. “With a temperature increase of 2 degrees, Southern Europe would have a similar climate to North Africa and Northern Europe would have a climate similar to what southern Europe has now,” said Gómez Cantero The aim of the report, presented by the Spanish political party Equo, is to
The report has also warned that some of Spain’s key industries, such as agriculture, fishing and tourism run the risk of losing millions of euros and putting countless jobs on the line. But as well as explaining the risks, the report sets out solutions to Spain’s climate change problem. “Spain must urgently take measures to stop burning fossil fuels and put more focus on renewable energy,” Gómez Cantero told The Local. “The implementation of more efficient technology in cities and agriculture as well as promoting the use of public transport and electric cars would serve to greatly curb greenhouse gas emissions.” Rising temperatures would have a direct impact on Spain, which would see longer summers and warmer winters. Important crops would be lost and the number of natural disasters would increase. December 2015’s climate change conference in Paris is expected to be

Age Concern 2015 How we have grown! In 2010 (our first year) we had 8 clients requiring ongoing assistance. This year we are taking (on average) 5 a month. So it does not take a mathematician to see that we are growing quite fast and really need to keep our volunteers numbers up too to ensure we can fulfil our commitments. This area (we cover Camposol, Mazarron, Puerto de Mazarron, Totana, and down to Cartagena) has an ageing and growing population. We have up until now been able to cover all the services we offer but this can only continue if we have the resources and the volunteers to cover it. So, we are holding an OPEN DAY on 20th MAY any time between 11-1pm at the CULTURAL CENTRE Camposol B. There are different tasks but there is no need for volunteers to have any experience as we do not do Caring or Nursing. So why not come along for coffee, a cake and a chat. There are 2 committee posts required too. Firstly a Vice President, who will take over the Presidents post next year. This is not a time consuming post, but with all
page 22
the skills of leadership and management many of you have acquired over your careers there must be someone who could fill the post and give something back to the community. No experience necessary as full training will be given. If you think you could take on the post but would like more information or to discuss further, visit us to talk things over at any of the times shown below or call 634310216. Secondly, we need a press officer, this requires attending 1 meeting for 1 hour a month and also to find out what is going on and then compile an article for the local magazines and papers. An important part of our activities are our monthly social activities, menudel-dias and occasional trips. Our main social activities come under the umbrella of our “Talking Shop ” which is a service for the over fifties and aims to provide support through its programme of activities. We meet at the Cultural centre from 1.30-3.30 on 1st Wednesday of each month. On 6th May we are lucky enough to have a talk on Local History about the effect of the Civil War on this area of Spain by Antonio and then Play your Cards right. On 3rd June is “All our yesterdays” On 1st July we will have a beetle drive. We are always is on the look out for informative, amusing speakers who would like to do a presentation or demonstration to members for about

20-30 minutes. Anything interesting considered! Get in touch with Mags on 634344589 if you would like to make a contribution. The other regular event is a monthly Menu-Del-Dia. This is on the last Wednesday of the month, the next being on 27th May at Mar y Tierra, on the paseo in the Port which is always popular. Tickets are always 10 Euros and include some light entertainment. Normally these are from 1.30PM until 4.30PM if you would like to come but have transport difficulties let us know and we will try to help. Age Concern does not have any government or local funding so raises its funding through its fund raising activities to sustain our lifeline activities and advice and information service. Our main Fund raisers are our monthly table top sales, our Anniversary Black & white Ball and our Christmas fair. Our very Popular Black and White Ball will be on Wednesday 9th September outside Bar La Sal in the Port. Tickets will be €15 (to include buffet) and are on sale from 1st May. Entertainment will be provided by the talented Karen Noble and Terry Jay. Tickets will be limited so don’t miss out. Tickets for all our activities are available from the Cultural centre Wednesday and Thursday 10-1pm and Friday 12.30-3.30. though, when numbers are limited, we offer tickets to our members first. As a Social Club, we don’t need to make profits, so when we receive more from ticket sales than an event has cost, we’re able use the surplus towards keeping ticket prices for future events as low as possible. Last year we held 3 dinner dances, a 3 night mini break in Madrid, 2 day trips, an Easter Monday fair and a 3 night mini break to the Las Fallas festival in Valencia.
On Good Friday morning we met on the Paseo in Puerto de Mazarron for a United Service of Celebration. We were joined by folk from several local churches and they took part in an hour of readings and songs – it was a very special time together and included the Wellspring ukulele group leading two of the songs. We also gave out chocolate mini eggs to people passing by and to those who stopped and sang along with us, including two Guardia Civil Officers who came over for a look It was lovely to be part of the Spanish Easter celebrations again this year and to be welcomed by the local people; we would like to thank Restaurante Gula Gula for the power supply to our PA system.. it really made a difference to us being heard, with all the other sounds coming from all around the marina area. After our meeting we had refreshments together and enjoyed the glorious Costa Calida sunshine.

• Do you know Camposol and Country Club? Yes, I know both urbanizations very well as I have made many friends and clients over the years. Also I was town councilor for city planning in 1995. I am very disappointed to learn of the ongoing problems relevant to both these places.

Exactly, we are introducing our proposals to every existing association on Camposol and Country Club in order to get their feedback about what else needs to be done. Through my work and my family it was been put to me by many of the residents who are very frustrated with previous total lack of effort on the part of local government. We have designated two British people with businesses and living on Camposol to find out everyone’s need. Now is the time to get cracking and solve all these problems. Together we can resolve and these longstanding issues. Francisco García Asensio For Mayor.

Editor: So Paul, tells us a bit about yourself and how you became a counselor.
E: Wow, 20 years! You must really enjoy it P: My job isn’t always easy, but it’s always interesting. I never wake up in the morning and dread going in. I love the fact
2015
E: What sort of counselling to you specialise in? P: I am experienced in all areas. I have worked as a therapist for many organizations throughout the UK including the NHS in Nottingham, Bristol, Birmingham and London. I have also run teams for New Scotland Yard, Tower Hamlets and Ealing Drug and Alcohol Services. I spent time working with the bereaved for the UK charity CRUISE. I have also freelanced for many years dealing with a wide range of client’s issues. Sometimes, clients come in with abuse stories so awful, I have a hard time believing it actually happened. I mean, here they are sitting in front of me and acting “normal.” The resilience of people is quite inspirational. When I am able to help them live even healthier lives I feel blessed.
E: Do you feel that 20 years listening to other people’s problems has changed you? P: Undoubtedly. I find I am more understanding than before. I listen far more intently, with clarity and I have developed patience that I didn’t know existed in me. It has made me want to do more. I would hope all the changes have been positive. I feel the biggest change has come from my understanding of myself. It sounds rather selfish in a way but it has been a big journey for me. Engaging in my own personal therapy has allowed me to delve deep within and visit places I feared going to in the past. It has enabled me to feel stronger and more capable and have more trust in who I really am. I also understand more about the relationships I want in my life. I guess this springs from my gaining a deeper understanding of what is important in my life and not just going along for the sake of it, or for others. It has by no means been an easy, painfree ride, it’s been the reverse. Now that I feel more comfortable with whom I am, I have found that I no longer seek affirmation of that from others. That was a huge step for me personally. Coming face-to-face with the truth of who I was and who I am has been by far the most valuable gift I have been given. E: Paul thanks for your time, it has been a pleasure. P: The pleasure was mine.
E: So you’re telling us that being a Councilor is tough and rewarding in equal measure? P: Definitely, the best feeling comes when a client returns and tells me specifically how my intervention was helpful. I have had clients tell me they can hear my voice when they feel anxious or upset. They can hear me tell them what to do, and they do it, and it works. I have just improved someone’s life. There is no better feeling than that. I thoroughly enjoy listening to people’s life stories and issues.

Paul: I’ve always enjoyed intimate, one-on-one conversations rather than “small talk” in a large group. I’ve had always been “that friend.” You know the one you go to with all of your problems. Everyone trusted me because I was like a vault. No matter what you told me, it never went any further. I was also a very empathic and understanding listener. I actually enjoyed hearing other’s problems, not because I wanted to see them in pain, but because I knew that was their way of connecting with me, sharing. At the age of 30, with a history of living in 53 places and having 58 jobs’, (I counted them!), no career or qualifications, my life a total mess I had to seek my own help. I had reached the point where I did not want to continue living if my life was going to be the way it was. I asked for help and the spent four years of daily counselling and group therapy, working on my problems to get to a place where I was able to follow my passion - helping people. I went to university and studied whilst working full time. The day I made the decision to change my life and ask for help, it all started to fell into place for me. Fast-forward 20 odd years and here I am today.

that I never really know on any given day what will happen. So far, no matter how much experience I gain, there is always a new skill to learn, a new way to grow, or a new problem to tackle. Each day, my clients surprise and challenge me. They let me into the most secret, painful parts of their lives. Often, I am the only one that knows these parts. The trust that my clients place in me amazes me. Often, they feel relieved just to have “gotten something off my chest” with an objective person listening in a non-judgmental manner. Sometimes clients feel so good after the first session, they don’t come back! Although this could be considered complimentary to me, it is actually detrimental to them, as we may not have addressed the root cause.

Technology Spain Announces Broadband Grants Spain’s industry ministry has announced the details of a EUR 63 million tender for the deployment of broadband technologies at speeds of at least 30 Mbps throughout the country, one of the main objectives of the digital agenda. Around EUR 55 million in EU loans plus EUR 8 million in direct subsidies will be handed out in three lots, all of which require execution of the corresponding projects by 31 December 2017. Lot A is intended for the deployment of ultrabroadband services (100 Mbps or higher) to areas with fewer than 50,000 inhabitants, while Lot B will be awarded to projects extending the coverage of broadband at speeds between 30 and 100 Mbps in areas with less than 20,000 inhabitants, and Lot C is aimed at extending 30 Mbps coverage to areas with less than 10,000 inhabitants.

Facebook Introduces New App
www.thejournalspain.es
The most neglected aspect of any smartphone tends to be the actual phone. That’s partly because talking on the phone is invariably an exercise in agonizing cross-talk and stutters, but it’s also because of how we organize our contacts today. In short, we don’t. But you know who does? Facebook. Facebook has introduced Hello, an Android app (iOS doesn’t let apps play with the necessary phone permissions) that takes the service’s unprecedentedly comprehensive access to all of our contact information and crams it into a delightful dialer. That a dialer can be considered delightful in the first place might seem like a stretch; it is, after all, just a bunch of numbers, an entry field for contacts, a star, and a pound sign whose main function is reminding you of how much you despise hashtags. It’s the most utilitarian part of your phone, and it enables your most awkward moments with it. And yet, Hello manages to rethink the dialer in subtle ways that make the process of calling someone (or, importantly, some business) exceptionally simple— as long as you and that someone have complementary Facebook privacy settings, or they were already in your phone’s contact list to begin with. Which is to say, if you’re friends with someone and they’ve made their number available, they’re suddenly in

your phone, whether they’ve given you their number directly or not.
lives of your friends, without requiring you to regularly track those friends down. As for what Facebook gets out of it, for now it might be enough simply to make new app experience that people embrace. More than that Hello reminds you of what makes Facebook essential. No matter how long you go without checking it, no matter how much you forget that it’s there, it remains a Rolodex of your life.
This Suitcase Pairs With Your Phone, and Charges It Too
If this sounds like a reminder to double check your Facebook privacy settings, good! You should. Before you use Hello you should go to your Facebook Page and dig into the Privacy portion of the Settings page. There, you can adjust who can look you up by your phone number, be it Everyone, Friends of Friends, or just Friends. That’s still not quite granular enough for my liking, especially with the kind of access Hello gives. It’s unlikely you want every single friend you’ve picked up in the last decade of social networking or so to know what hemisphere you live in, much less give them a direct conduit to breathing heavily into your ear holes. But Facebook has put systems in place to help with the unpleasant sides of phone communication as well, that range from subtle to absolute. Incoming calls will show a profile picture of an incoming caller, even if they aren’t in your phone’s contact list, along with whatever FB info they make public, like city and employer. It’ll even tell you if it’s their birthday, so you know to launch into song. Nuisance callers can be perma-blocked with a simple tap, and you can ask Hello to automatically block numbers that other users have blocked in volume, which is to say telephonic spammers. Hello is a contact list that evolves with your life and the

The Bluesmart bag has a 10,000 mAh battery built into it, with a full-size USB port on top of the bag for charging up phones and tablets. You can also charge two devices at once or keep your tablet or phone juiced while it’s stowed in the overhead compartment. There’s a second USB charging interface on the inside of the bag, as well as separate padded compartments for a tablet and laptop. When paired with your phone via Bluetooth, the bag will also automatically lock when you step away from it. You can unlock it wirelessly with the sidecar app for iOS, Android, and Windows Phone, and to meet TSA-approved standards, it also has a standard key lock so security agents can search your bag. As you’d expect, this bag is pretty pricey, but it’s not entirely out of line with brand-name (and non-smart) luggage. It’s available for $320 via preorder through the Bluesmart site right now, and the company hopes to sell the bag through major online retailers in time for the holiday season. The company say that if all goes well with the firstgeneration bag, different sized models may follow in the coming years.
The main feature of any smartphone isn’t its camera. It’s not the apps, the screen resolution, or the build quality either. It’s the fact that it’s always on you—a trait that makes the other features much more significant. It’s a pocket computer. You need one. Camposol and District Independent Party
CDiP Partido Independiente de Camposol y Distrito
WHY YOU SHOULD SUPPORT THE CDiP If you want to see Camposol flourish as a delightful place to live .You should support the CDiP If you want to see all the evils left behind by Masa put right. You should support CDiP If you want a fair share of your taxes spent on Camposol. You should support CDiP. If you want to be represented by courageous Councillors unafraid of taking your fight all the way. You should support CDiP If you want to see property values get back to reality on Camposol. You have to support CDiP. If you are living in an illegal build. You must support CDiP because that’s the only way that problem will be addressed. If you don’t have an escritura. You must support CDiP because we will get those escritura. If we are successful in May, we will establish a five day a week office on B Sector Commercial centre. This office will offer a means of contacting the Council direct and will also practice as a citizen’s advice bureau. We are establishing a business Association and will enable the people who put their money where their mouths are, to be properly represented politically. If the residents of Camposol do not take this opportunity to support the CDiP in May, then in the long term the Urbanization is doomed to decay.
Camposol and District Independent Party
CDiP Partido Independiente de Camposol y Distrito On May 24th Camposol residents will be making the most important decision during their residency here. Your support can help the CDiP send up to six candidates into the Mazarron Council chamber. This number means that no administration can be formed without the CDiP in coalition. If you give us this power, the reward for Camposol will be enormous. We will be able to ensure that at long last Camposol residents are treated with respect instead of a decade long contempt. Many gullible people were seduced by Mayor Garcia’s few months’ intervention in the problems of Camposol leading up to this election. Mayor Garcia has now been dropped by his party and will not stand on May 24 th. As most of you will know Mayor Garcia is under investigation on charges of corruption. We take no pleasure in the Mayor’s fall from grace, a disaster for his friends and family, but it illustrates once again the endemic recurrence of Corruption in our Town Halls. All CDiP candidates are obliged to sign a legal and binding document which states clearly that any involvement in corruption, however small, means expulsion from the Party and resignation of the Council seat. In addition the Party will report any such corruption to the Police.
Do the right thing on May 24th. Support CDiP and change Camposol for the better. On Election Day our members will be standing by to help any who request help in getting to your Polling station. If you will need help email us on cdipmazarron@gmail.com In the meantime help us raise funds for this crusade by joining the Party. Simply email your details to cdipmazarron@gmail.com you will be contacted within forty eight hours.

Mazarrón Bay Bridge Club (MBBC) The long awaited MBBC AGM took place after the Monday morning bridge session. There were around 20 paid up members attending the meeting. The Club President, Phil, opened the meeting by speaking about the achievements since the last AGM in October 2013. He said that MBBC now had a
permanent home in the Playa Grande Hotel and that the responsibilities for running the Club was spread over 30% of the Members. The finances of MBBC had improved and that the Annual Membership and Table Money would remain at 5€ and 1€. 2€ for non Members. There are 50 paid up Members following the successful “Play to Learn” sessions on Thursdays. During the year (18 months actually – Editor) new playing cards, scorecards, travellers, felt table cloths, more boards and the long awaited and much discussed clock have been bought. The elections for the newly named Board of MBBC were completed with one vacancy due to the resignation of Trevor. The Board would like to thank Trevor for his hard work and hope that he continues to play on Mondays. The profile of the MBBC has increased with the web site, local press releases and notices in campsites although, unfortunately, that has not led to a surge of new members. There was a return match against Los Alcázares Bridge Club but the score was not recorded. Phil closed the short and amazingly uncontentious meeting. MBBC meets every Monday and every Friday at 09:30 at the Hotel Playa Grande. Dawn Llewellyn-Price Music forms such a large part of our everyday lives as humans, we often don’t realise its impact. Even for those who may say they’re ‘not really into music’ the vibes are still coming through advertising jingles, theme tunes of programmes and news bulletins. We hear music 24/7 without quite realising it. In Spain, the bars have an endless supply of bands and other artistes to tempt us into their premises, getting our feet tapping, our limbs moving, and even going to the gym is supported by backing tracks. Just walking down the street these days runs the gamut of bumping into someone otherwise absorbed with headphones or earbuds, barely paying attention to the world around them. It’s difficult to imagine a society without this man made noise. Can you imagine stone age Chica and Chico, outside their cave, just listening to the sounds of the world. Well, there wouldn’t have been much. The wind, leaves in the trees, the call of
birds, maybe the sound of a crackling fire if they’d invented it. Did they even speak? Had language been formed, or were the only sounds a few grunts. It must have been a still, relatively silent world, unless you lived on the banks of a fast flowing river. Or banged a few old bones together and did a jig. We’ve moved forward so fast this last 100 years or so, but at times it seems we’re purely overloaded. Noise is everywhere, traffic, car radios loudly zooming by, horns blowing. These are all our outside sounds now, we’re used to them, seek them out, and it seems we can barely lead our normal lives without a backing track. I don’t watch X-Factor or The Voice, but I adore Britain’s Got Talent as I love to see variety, and the amazing things humans are capable of creating. Recently, at one of our local watering holes in Swansea (despite it’s cafeteria size) I was entertained wonderfully with great fun and no airs and graces, by local girl Shelly Ann. Now, I’d never heard of her, but it quickly became clear she’d been on the Voice, and got pretty far into the competition, under the guidance of Ricky Wilson. (Kaiser Chiefs, I’m told.)
these people sing, but ask me who sings them, and I’ll glaze over. At a recent Ceroc event, we were going to dance to ‘Fireball’ I got all excited, see. ‘Oooh, Deep Purple!’ The dance teacher perused me from the stage. She must have seen a T.Rex or other dinosaur stood there. ‘No, Dawn, the one you danced to at Calpe last year.’ ‘Ah, OK.’ None the wiser, actually. In March I went to the funeral of Visage singer Steve Strange. The coffin went into the church to ‘Fade to grey’ and the band played it at again at the wake, which I guess is where my own grey matter has gone. Maybe even fifty shades of.
I’m just out of the loop, it seems. I know the songs

D Community Group Newsletter May 2015 The recent project on D7 community garden area and community car and trailer off road parking area has now been completed; the project included a 300m stretch of road on the outer perimeter that took the force of the flood last year. All the debris along that stretch was cleared back and the central community garden section that was badly affected needed a complete makeover. This section took three consecutive Fridays and 20 tons of gravel to spread by our volunteers, to complete the garden and bring it back from a disaster zone for the residents to enjoy again. I’m sure that you will agree the most important volunteers that attended were our tea ladies who kept the troops going. The D11/16/21 project unfortunately had to be cancelled last month because our contractor deemed it to be too wet to dig out the channel. Weather permitting this month trenching will start and gravel will be laid at strategic areas along the road. Some residents have asked for the gravel to be laid but the trenching has to be done first. Trenching out a channel was started on Calle Hayas D7 and D8. This particular project has been waiting in the wings for some considerable time and soon a delivery of 10 tons of gravel will arrive at the location to bolster the trench work. Some of the D7 residents have pledged 150 Euros
towards this project which will help greatly with the cost. There is a problem on Calle Serbales with deep mud settling in front of some residences at the bottom of the road when it rains. This month a team of volunteers will clear the mud. The work that is being done on the D7/D8 project will alleviate most of the mud flowing down their road. The memorial gardens on D25 Calle Esparraguera and also the Jubilee Garden opposite D20 on the dual carriageway are both being weeded this month by our volunteers, and the triangle on D19 will also be tidied up. A number of our members have requested that some signs be placed asking residents to stop their dogs fouling the area, we have had printed 50 No Fouling dog signs in 5 languages, and these will be placed around D Sector. Unfortunately fly tipping is still taking place on the D36 area. We will approach the Council to see if we can use other means to stop this happening. As a reminder for the residents, Mazarrón Council will remove large household items FREE Contact Tatiana: 968 131 717, we have a car and trailer which members can also use to take unwanted items to the Ecoparque. Members of the Committee have been approached by holiday home owners who would like to contribute to the community fund. We realise that when they come here on holiday they wish to relax. We have approach a few holiday makers with an idea of how they can contribute to D community and some of the holiday makers like the idea, which is to adopt a fruit tree or plants which can be planted at the entrance into D Sector. Full information will be posted on the community web site. A number of holiday owners/Residents have asked if they would be able to donate to our funds when they are not here, i.e. a monthly bank donation as other gardening groups are doing this. We are putting a procedure for this fund raising suggestion to the next D group meeting 27th April 2015. This month we finished installing the largest delivery in Green Finger’s history (round of applause!). These new trees in planters, and shrubs are already looking lovely although an attempt has already been made to steal one (this has now been retrieved and replanted). A huge thank you to our workers and all the
volunteers who turned out to help plant these, and even stayed late to finish the job - it has made a huge difference to
the main roadways. The planters have been concreted in and secured with iron bars, so only the tree was taken, but the new wheelbarrow planter was also destroyed by thieves...Each delivery has been funded by your generous donations so thefts like these are felt personally; Please keep your eyes and ears open to prevent any other ‘losses’, thank you. There will be a lot of watering ahead during the summer months so if you can spare any time to care for those near your villa it will be much appreciated. We would also be very grateful for any full water containers to be left behind the ‘Welcome Wall’, as to fill these with water for all the new trees is very time consuming - our supply from the pig farm has been suspended, we hope temporarily. Two more large pipes have been laid and landscaped at the bottom of the dual carriageway to cope with the heavy April showers, which we hope we have now seen the last of. Future projects include tackling the heavy weed growth on all the verges, caused by the warm, wet weather but this will be a long haul so bear with us as we try to catch up with this backbreaking task! If you see any volunteers in your area, they are always grateful for a cool drink! It’s lovely to accept so much time freely given by so many kind people, as well as all the financial assistance we receive, from bucket collections, raffle donations, tickets sold, contributions from local businesses and the local council, and
monthly payments to our maintenance scheme; It really makes living in this caring community a pleasure. We would like to invite everyone to our Annual General Meeting held at the Golf Club on 13th May at 3pm; please come along and put your views forward! New committee members are always welcome, as are new volunteers! On Wednesday mornings you are rewarded with a free breakfast and refreshments plus the incentive of making many new friends! Also, tickets are still available, 5 Euros each, for our Fun Games Night on 1st May, 7.30pm at the Golf Club – should be a great evening so come and support us and have fun at the same time! Please check the chalkboards and Facebook for any further information or contact John, our Chairman, on 634 325 427 or visit the website: http:// www.greenfingersgardenandsocialgroup. com/

Health &Wellbeing Dear Paul I have been married to my husband for 18 years. He has always been a hard worker and a good husband. We have a good life since moving to Mazarron 7 years ago, a wonderful house, and everything we could ever want. However, he has a violent temper and over the years has physically and verbally abused me. These rages used to happen 2-3 times a year but lately have been happening more frequently. About 8 months ago, I started to have an affair with a man I met at bingo. During this time, my husband’s rages increased and we separated. My husband does not know about the affair. I am now having trouble coping with the separation from my husband. For various reasons, I don’t think my lover and I have a future together, although I do care about him.

My lover thinks it’s because of guilt over our affair. My lover is appalled that I would want to live with an abusive man and wants me to divorce him. I am afraid of losing my marriage and everything I have and ending up without my spouse or my lover. My lover says I should not base my decision on what I will give up but that I must concentrate on his abuse. I have stayed with my husband all these years because the time in-between these episodes are great, we rarely even fight. My husband has now come to me and has told me he will go into counselling with me and learn how to change. He wants our marriage to continue and he says he will do whatever it takes. I just don’t know what to do. Please help. JF Dear JF It is too easy for anyone to say what the hell have you been doing spending eighteen years with an abusive man.You have settled for this relationship and have felt that up until recently that the rest of the marriage was worth the abuse. Or is it that you are just used to it? You have been having an affair with a man who you feel offers you no future. You are in love; that means you have both let down your emotional boundaries with each other. Possibly, your husband has been sensing your affair and has been acting out more often and perhaps even more abusively. Sounds like you have already started to pack your bags and to go back to him. Sometimes, as a result of abuse, a woman’s self-esteem is so damaged that she lacks the confidence to maintain independence from her abuser. Often, women who leave abusive relationships have trouble earning

an adequate income or finding safe and affordable housing. Women may feel compelled to return to the relationship because they lack resources and support. This is not the case you find yourself in. Many women go back to their abusers because they feel sorry for them. A common tactic batterers use to control their mates is threatening to commit suicide. This may lead the victim to feel both guilty and worried, and she may return to the relationship to save the abuser. Just as often, batterers are able to convince their victims that they love them and are committed to changing. Some women very much want to believe the batterer and hope for real change. This is what is happening to you. According to statistics, the average abused woman leaves her abuser seven to eight times before she leaves permanently. Victims of abuse often live in a state of fear, confusion, and overwhelming sadness. To make a successful and permanent separation from an abuser, a woman needs support and easy access to organizations dedicated to aiding victims. With this support and the understanding that the abuse will continue if they return, many abused women are able to leave abusive relationships permanently. As a counsellor I would have to say: you need to negotiate with your spouse to stay separated and safe until you are both solidly in marriage counselling and he is in treatment for his abusiveness. The deal would be he has do all the treatment, even when he doesn’t like it. It sounds like the communication skills in your marriage need a lot of work, as well as his anger management skills. Abusers don’t change until their partners put have put their foot down and says firmly: “No more I have had enough!” I certainly cannot evaluate whether you and your husband should try again. I cannot be the person to tell you to continue living with an abusive man. I think that is wrong. I do know that when their feet are held to the fire, some people can change their behaviour. I think you should both get the help you need. Anyone, male or female who stays with an abuser has their own emotional issues. Your husband may slip up at times and you will always need to leave if he gets verbally or physically abusive again. Grownups don’t hit each other, and should not put up with being hit. But please, should you go back to him, have an emergency exit plan in place for a

Health &Wellbeing quick escape should his violence continue. For more information on escape planning email me. Paul Dear Paul My husband’s been cheating on me. We have had a good marriage for the last nine years. He has always denied being unfaithful when I confronted him about my fears. This was until recently when he had to tell me that he has been to the clinic because he caught something from a one night stand. He swears it was the only time. I don’t mind the sex part; It’s the lying about it. Now what? JJ Dear JJ It’s entirely up to you. First, you need to make a rational and realistic assessment of your husband’s character and then decide whether his potential for infidelity is enough of a glaring flaw to end your marriage. Cheating itself is obviously part of the thrill. He’d rather tell lies and keep secrets. It’s a terrible thing to learn that your husband can’t be trusted, and I’m sure he’ll come up with a long list of bull reasons why he lied, but at the end of the day, the fundamental reason is that he just couldn’t be bothered to be honest. He was morally lazy. It was simply easier for him to lie — and perhaps even more fun — right up until the moment it wasn’t. The question you have to ask yourself now is, can you see yourself ever being in a position to trust your husband again? Better yet, do you want to even bother? Nine years is a long time. Maybe you want
to try and make it work. Then again, maybe you’re ready to move on. What do you want to do? You say you don’t mind the sex part “I wonder?” I think there may be more to this than you are admitting. Sure, it’s a tough decision either way, but if you follow your gut instinct, you probably already know which way you want to go. Even if he can’t be honest with you, you still have to be honest with yourself. Paul

LOS AMIGOS DE MAZARRON FC LATEST NEWS
On Wednesday 28th of March the society gathered at the Lorca Resort Golf Club for the monthly Stapleford competition, although on the journey over many members wondered whether we would be playing, as the rain was coming down and strong winds were blowing. However, by the time we had sorted the pairings, got the buggies, and arrived at the first tee, the rain had relented. The wind was still causing problems, and on a course where the ball really needs to go in a straight line, many had their patience tested. By the time we had played the first nine, the sun had broken though, and players improved their scores. On reaching the 19th the cards were checked and results were as follows:-
Mazarron’s stuttering form in the runin to the end of season play off race continued with a 5-1 defeat away to second placed La Hoya Lorca. The following week saw the local derby against Sporting Camposol . Mazarron had won the corresponding game earlier in the season by a narrow 1-0 margin and the return game followed a similar fashion with Mazarron eventually completing the double with a 2-1 victory. Mazarron’ s decision to offer free admission to spectators for this game certainly paid off with a bumper crowd and hugely increased receipts from the raffle and the canteen. There were many new faces at the game and it is hoped that they will return again to support the team in its efforts to gain promotion back to the Preferente Division. The squad has been strengthened by the return of former captain and central defender Juan Andreo who made his debut in the game against Sporting Camposol and was voted Man of the Match by the Los Amigos supporters. After the Easter break Mazarron travelled to Blanca Telecanal and came away with a vital 2-1 win when goalkeeper Carrasco saved a penalty for the second successive game. At the time

of writing Mazarron have five games left to play and are in sixth place with a four point point cushion over the team below them EF Los Alcazares who are just outside the play off positions. Two of Mazarron’s games are at home to play-off contenders, Espinardo and CD Alberca, both of which will be “six-pointers” and they travel to Los Alcazares in the penultimate game of the season. The season proper ends on 17th May with a home game against CD Lumbreras but, if Mazarron do qualify for the play offs, the team finishing in third plays against the team finishing in sixth over two legs and the team finishing third plays the team finishing fourth, again over two legs with the winners playing in a two-legged final to determine the third promotion position. Mazarron’s home games are normally played on Sundays with varying kick off times. Admission is just €4 with juveniles free. Los Amigos de Mazarron FC also organise a supporters’ coach to most away games, something unique in this area where away support is almost non-existent. Coach tickets for away games are 8€ for Los Amigos de Mazarron FC members and 10€ for non members. Full details of all games, date and kick off times and coach departure times both home and away, are normally not announced until the Wednesday before the weekend on which the game is to be played and advertised in the local media, on www.mazarronfc.es, on our own Los Amigos de Mazarron FC Facebook page, and on posters at various points throughout Camposol and Mazarron. Spanish F1 Grand Prix 2015 Dates: 08 May Friday (Practice) 09 May Saturday (Qualifying) 10 May Sunday (Race) Location: Montmelo, Barcelona, Spain. 30 minutes from BCN city center by car The Santander 2015 Spanish Grand Prix (or Gran Premio de España) is held at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain.
McLaren Faces Race Against Time to Improve Car for Spain The last time Fernando Alonso won a race was in front of his home fans at the Spanish Grand Prix two years ago. That race is next on the Formula One calendar and given the ongoing problems at McLaren, he will be happy with a top-10 finish in Barcelona. After four races, McLaren has not scored a point despite boasting world champions in Alonso and Jenson Button. With three weeks until the Spanish GP, things are not looking good. Alonso’s 11th-place finish in Sunday’s Bahrain GP was McLaren’s best performance of the season — hardly much to shout about. But Button did not even make it out of the garage, and even if he had the 2009 F1 champion would have started from the back of the grid because of an electrical fault that also curtailed his qualifying. “Clearly we aren’t satisfied with our level of competiveness,” McLaren’s racing director Eric Boullier said. “We still have a mountain to climb, but climb it we will, of that you can be 100 percent certain.” Yet Boullier remains cautious about how much will be gained from anticipated upgrades on the car in the weeks ahead. “We’ll make no predictions as where they’ll place us, pace-wise,
page 46
relative to our chief competitors,” the Frenchman said. Clearly, McLaren is scrambling around for answers. The switch to Honda engines was a much-heralded move leading into the new season, with enthusiastic talk of rekindling the highly successful partnership of the late 1980s and 1990s. But problems with downforce and the power unit have put those dreams firmly on hold. The Bahrain GP was particularly tough on Button, who spent much of the race sending tweets from his garage after being deprived of his 100th race for McLaren.
They will have to be. Button has not qualified higher than 17th so far, while Alonso — who missed the season-opener in Australia after recovering from a crash in testing — qualified 18th in China and Malaysia. “We’ll be preparing fiercely for the first European race,” said Yasuhisa Arai, Honda’s chief officer of motorsport. “We’ll be concentrating on competitiveness and reliability.” Alonso has not secured a podium finish since last year’s Chinese GP, 19 races ago, while Button’s last podium was at the 2014 season-opener in Australia.
His qualifying session had been cut brutally short at the start, and he also struggled in practice — stalling in the first session and called back to the pits for the second. “Disappointing for all of us, and particularly for Jenson,” Boullier said, explaining why Button did not start. “We believed that there was a significant likelihood that the issue would recur in running and would indeed eventually scupper Jenson’s race.” The frustration has not got to the drivers quite yet, but two-time champion Alonso still spoke in the conditional sense when talking about an “eventual” improvement later in the season. “It’s clear that we’re all committed to this project and to doing all we can to being about our eventual comeback,” said Alonso, who has 32 career race wins.

Bond cars
Every month we will feature a car that has apeared in a James Bond film #1 Sunbeam Alpine Sunbeam Alpine - Dr. No Model: Series II (1962) Bond Movie: Dr. No (1962) Synopsis: James Bond’s first car was the modest Sunbeam Alpine Series II, in lake blue. After being invited to the mountain apartment of enemy spy Miss Taro, Bond drove the Sunbeam up the dusty road and into a trap. He was soon chased by a large hearse that
tried to ram him off the edge of the sharp cliff. After some tense corners, a crane blocked the road ahead. Bond managed to pass underneath, but the hearse was too tall and skidded off the mountain to a fiery death. Like many Bond cars to follow, the Sunbeam was English made, manufactured just outside of Coventry
in the West Midlands. The iconic car had also featured in the novel Dr. No, where it was the personal car of John Strangways, head of Station J, Jamaica. For the film, it was rumoured that the producers had borrowed the Sunbeam from a local resident to avoid the cost of importing their own.

Property, Financial and Legal IF IT’S NOT ONE THING IT’S ANOTHER They say reading broadens the mind but there is a limit - I expect you know what I mean – every time you pick up a magazine, there is an article about something - money is a popular topic and if its not that, then it’s the doom and gloom when you die, and the pitfalls involving your inheritance. It seems there is no escape from it – from the UK side we are all hearing about the new pension laws – about how we all now have the freedom to do as much or as little as we wish with our pension annuities, investments, etc. For so many years, we have been constrained by rules under which our pension companies have had to operate in that we were drip fed our pension in monthly payments. Potentially, this could all come to an end, and we have to ask ourselves whether this is a good thing or not?? On the plus side, there is no doubt that the opportunity will be a boon for many, to be able to unlock sums of money to facilitate various costs and to bring about a welcome change in lifestyle. However, nothing comes without a cost, so if any of you are thinking of

that every foreigner in Spain is compelled to effect a new Spanish Will. This is not true!
A considerable number of rumours emanate because of this situation ie that it is possible to avoid payment of Spanish taxes by insertion of a particular clause in their Will – this is also untrue ! Anyone wishing advice in either of the above areas should consult a professional who has not only the hard earned qualifications but also the lifetime of experience acquired over a number of years to be able to give advice in these areas. The effect of the legislation is that if you wish to leave your Spanish estate to your Spouse (as opposed to your children) then it needs to be clear in your Spanish Will that you wish UK law to apply regarding the fall of succession of your Estate. Without that clarity, it is possible that when dealing with the administration of a Spanish estate and where property is involved, that the Registrar may require clarity as to which law should apply. That is the bones of the new legislation – (which at the moment is to take effect from August 2015) . In most cases, Wills already effected already make it clear that the Testator has opted for UK law to apply in this regard.

Vegetable word search Q: Tom wants to send Sally an expensive ring through the mail because they live thousands of miles apart. The only problem is that everything sent through the mail is stolen unless there is a lock put on it. Both Tom and Sally have plenty of locks and keys but they don’t have any of the same locks or keys. How can Tom send Sally the ring without it getting stolen? Q: You are playing a game of dodge ball with two other people, John and Tom. You’re standing in a triangle and you all take turns throwing at one of the others of your choosing until there is only one person remaining. You have a 30 percent chance of hitting someone you aim at, John has a 50 percent chance, and Tom a 100 percent change (he never misses). If you hit somebody they are out and no longer get a turn. If the order of throwing is you, John, then Tom; what should you do to have the best chance of winning?

Our Spring/Summer fashion show was again an enormous success thanks to your generous donations of good quality garments and your continued support for this event. The team of volunteers organising and helping on the day enabled the sum of 1304.30 € to be raised for our charity. Thanks must also go to Daniel Wheatley who stepped in to provide the music at the eleventh hour so thank you to him and also to Peter Smith who as always
Summers just round the corner so be careful with animals in cars over the next few months.. Update on Lola is that she appears to be doing so well, she is now off her medication but we are still watching what she eats and drinks. She is due for another check up in two weeks time. A BIG, BIG thank you to all the people that have helped us raise the 3000€ that was needed to cover her hospital bill. Kind and generous donations, and an auction mean that the bill was paid in full, thanks again everyone. One of our rescued ponies that came from the parerra has been adopted by Maipe Riding School, where she will be earning her keep giving lessons to youngsters, Thanks Marji. Also remember Lucario, whose legs were so bad having been shackled, his wounds were full of maggots; he even had maggots in his eyes!!!! What this boy had been through is shameful, he was in need of constant care and dressings, now 8 months on and the good news is that he too has been homed this month. The new owners have been helping Marji in the stables lately and expressed an interest in Lucario, so they have now adopted him, we loved him dearly but it’s great to see them adopted He too will be staying at the stables in livery. Antonio was taken to San Vicente hospital to meet a horse that the owners thought needed a companion. Their horse was a big boy and Antonio was our largest donkey. They were introduced and spent a week in the hospital getting to know each other; the horse was recovering from colic at the time. The horse, donkey and most of all the owners all fell for each other and Antonio now resides in Albacete, in stables fit for a king.... there’s even cctv in the stables so we can watch them sleeping , Well done Antonio you deserve it, miss you boy . Just wish we could find similar owners/premises for all our rescues but these are few and far between so we will just have to keep looking. Phoenix who was rescued from a Spanish man in Murcia the other month, has now come to us, she is so gorgeous ....some say she looks like the Donkey from shriek!!!!!!! Romero is also settling in having been castrated last month ...... they’re getting on with the others now and making friends
. Please do not forget about us we really need your unwanted goods to sell in our shop, I will be on Camposol B as usual each Monday for collections. We will also collect larger items at a time to suit us both. Until next month.....

We would like to thank the Mazarrón Bowls Club for their continued support with their donations of brand new underwear for the families whom we help; they are so gratefully received by them. Last month a kind donation of 140€ was given in memory of Connie Wickett who sadly passed away. We thank her family and friends for thinking of us as a tribute to her. We are still appealing for toiletries such as toothpaste, shampoo, shower gel, sanitary towels etc. These items are so very much appreciated as essential items for our clients, so heartfelt thanks goes to those of you who are supporting this continuous appeal and buying us an item or two as you do your shopping. We also continue to see very high demand for children´s clothing and shoes. Please be so kind as to ask around all your friends with children so they are aware of our need for such items.
The Maipe Riding School is at the side of the A30 motorway junction 184 near Cartagena, should anyone want to pay them a visit ....Cloud one of our horses is still there also Nacho a small donkey who will be castrated next week

A man got a job as a zookeeper, on his first day at the zoo he was walking past the aviary when he saw a beautiful finch. He reached into the cage and caught the bird to give it a stroke. Unfortunately he squeezed too hard and killed the bird. In a panic he threw the dead bird into the lions cage to get rid of the evidence. As he was walking away he accidentally knocked over the Bee hive exhibit. The hive crashed to the ground and the bees began to swarm out. In a panic he stomped all over the hive and killed the bees then threw the lot over the wall into the lions cage. As he walked past the Monkey cage he turned to see all the monkeys taking the Mickey out of him. He flew into a rage and entered the monkey cage and punched the first monkey he saw, killing him outright. In a panic now he also threw the monkey’s body over into the lions cage. The next day the zoo introduced a new lion to the lion enclosure. The lion walked up to the leader of the pack an old and wise lion and said “Hi mate, I’m new, just got here from Africa, what’s this place like then?”
Last month’s Suduko answers
“It’s all right here mate” said the old lion. “What’s the food like then?” said the newcomer. “Not too bad” said the old lion “Last night I had finch, chimps and mushy bees!” A woman went to the cinema with her dog and on the way out she was stopped by a man. He said to her “ I’m sorry to bother you but I noticed that your dog watched the film all the way through, crying at the right times, hiding during the scary bits and laughing during the funny bits. Don’t you find that a bit odd?” “Well yes” said the woman “That is odd. He hated the book.” Two television aerials met up and fell in love, they decided to get married. Apparently the ceremony was rubbish, but the reception was brilliant!!! Did you hear about the man who drowned in a bowl of Muesli? Apparently he was pulled under by a strong currant!!! A man was walking along the road when he tripped over and broke his arm. He dashed to the local hospital and entered the main doors where he saw a nurse pulling bunches of flowers from a second world war German helmet. “Hello is this the emergency room?” he asked, “no” came the reply “this is geriatrics!” There was once a very rich man who decided that he had everything he wanted in life except a companion equal to himself. The rich man went to a bunch of scientists and paid them to make an exact clone of himself. The scientists went to work and a few days
later came back with a clone of the rich man. The clone was a perfect copy in every way except for one fault, he couldn’t stop swearing. After a while the rich man could take the swearing no longer and took the clone to the top of the highest building in town. He looked around to make sure the coast was clear before pushing the clone over the edge. Just as he did a policeman stepped out from the shadows and arrested the rich man. “ What are you arresting me for” said the rich man, “for making abusive clone falls” said the policeman. Last week I went to a night club in Basingstoke, but when I got to the door the bouncer said “I’m sorry but you can’t come in because you haven’t got a tie on”. I went back to my car and searched for a tie but couldn’t find one anywhere. Just then I spotted a pair of jump leads in the boot of the car so I wrapped them around my neck. I walked back up to the bouncer, who looked me up and down and said “alright you can come in, but don’t start anything” A young boy went out one day and returns home later with a settee strapped to his back and carrying an armchair under each arm. His father went absolutely mad and turned to the boy and said “What have I told you about excepting suites from strangers!!!”
