JOURNAL
THE Dear Readers,
Welcome to the October 2014 edition of The Journal! After what has been one of the hottest Septembers in over 100 years we are finally starting to see the temperatures recede slightly! September was a surprisingly busy month on Camposol and the surrounding areas. The good weather has helped keep a healthy number of people in the bars and restaurants, which is great, positive news for our local economy. Sadly, one of the negative things that has been playing on my mind over this last month is the incessant rumours that seem to circulate in the ex-pat community. Someone stopped me in the street a few weeks ago to tell me how sorry they were, as they had heard that The Journal had gone out of business. Over the last 4 years, this has happened on more than one occasion. A few days later I was visiting a long term and loyal advertiser of this magazine, and they asked me if I had heard the rumour that THEY were going out of business! I don’t know how or where rumours and gossip of this kind originate, but enough is enough. If people want to discuss community matters, then why can’t they discuss the positive things, as opposed to the constant scurrilous gossip that does the rounds? This actually brings me to my next point. If you are interested in discussing what’s happening in our community, and wish to do so in a positive and constructive manner then the CDiP have a public meeting at Marianos on Sector A Camposol (details later in the magazine). For those that don’t know, the CDiP is Camposol´s own political party which aims to represent the needs of the community from within the town hall. At the meeting they will be explaining their programme and answering any questions from the audience. Go along and hear what they have to say. We also wish to congratulate Oscar from Oscar’s Bar on Camposol Sector B. Recently his family took over the running of the Social Centre in Cañadas Del Romero and they have gone to great lengths to make improvements that will benefit the wider community. You can read more about this later in the magazine. Well done guys! Enjoy this month’s magazine everyone! Kind regards, Robert P.S: Don’t forget to check out our exclusive offer for 7th Heaven in the Port!! Proud to be a climate neutral publication

British Drug Gang Captured In Mallorca
periodically to their home country to pick up the drugs and transport them to Mallorca
A gang of drug traffickers has been dismantled in Magaluf with nine Britons detained
The investigation, directed by Instruction court 12 in Palma, has been carried out by Central Units of the Guardia Civil; specialist in organised crime, in conjunction with the British National Crime Agency.
The Guardia Civil and the British National Crime Agency worked together

This success means one of the most active groups has been dismantled, and is partly the result of increased patrols by the Guardia Civil during the summer. to make the arrests in early September. The nine detained Britons, six men and three women, face two charges of drug trafficking and belonging to a criminal organisation. Eight house searches were carried out according to an Interior Ministry statement. Codenamed Narval, more than 60 agents took part in the operation and they have impounded a selection of drugs, cocaine, crystal meth and ecstasy. They also found precision scales and 24,000 € in cash. Among those arrested, two were employed by a club in Magaluf. Investigations started in June this year, after information was supplied to the Guardia Civil by drug traffickers who had been detained, most of them British. The members of the network did not choose to live in an urbanisation outside Magaluf, but had flats in the area of Punta Ballena, where most of the clubs can be found. Inside these flats, the organisation guarded and prepared the drugs which would later be sold on by small distributors. The detained are from Manchester and some of them have a criminal record in the U.K. and Spain; they would travel
Guardia Civil Arrest 400 People For Stealing From The Campo The Guardia Civil of the Murcia Region have arrested more than 400 people involved in stealing produce from the campo The ROCA team (against thefts in the campo) is in its first year and has detained or arrested 400 people and issued penal punishments on more than 250. The six ROCA teams, each made up of 16 Guardia Civil, started their activity last summer and their results have been very satisfying and the plan to continue in the same line to reduce the level of crime in the countryside. Murcia is one of 15 provinces first to start this scheme as being the area most affected by this sort of crime. Their work includes keeping in constant contact with the people in the farming co-operatives, obtaining information on these crimes, from others detained, and to investigate the farms or the location of the crime. They also advse co-operatives on how they can by themselves improve their own security. Since their operation penal infraction detentions have increased by 30%

Miss Spain has become the first openly gay national beauty queen. Patricia Yurena came out by posting a photo of her and her girlfriend – Vanesa Cortes, a singer and DJ – on Instagram with the caption ‘Romeo and Juliet’. The two-time winner of Spain’s most prestigious beauty award has received widespread support on social media after coming out in public. Two openly gay beauty queens competed for the Miss California USA in 2012, but both lost out on the title. In the same year Donald Trump’s Miss Universe Organisation announced it would allow transgender women to compete.

“The Best For Food, Drinks, Entertainment And Sports” Camposol sector A Gravedigger suspended for corpse photo gaffe
The mummified body of a man who died 23 years ago had been moved from his grave to allow the burial of his wife alongside him in the family tomb in Guardamar del Segura. The niece of the deceased had arranged for the grave to be extended. Clemente, the gravedigger, opened the tomb to begin his usual job of breaking up the corpse to allow another body to fit into the same space. For reasons unknown, the niece then took a photo on her mobile of Clemente holding up the body alongside another man, said to be the corpse’s nephew by marriage, who is grinning broadly. According to Spanish daily Información,

A PP Deputy In Valencia, Elisa Díaz Allegedly Attacked A British Woman Leaving Her Deaf The attack on the British woman happened in a dog pound in Alicante province where the parliamentarian volunteered when an argument broke out when Elisa Díaz accused the British woman of leaving her dogs off the lead. now the heath centres consulted by the Instruction Judge, magistrate Antonio Ferrer, have sent the Valencia High Court the information that the woman involved was not deaf before, had not previous illnesses and her hearing was perfect prior to the attack. A forensic doctor has informed the court the British woman is suffering from ‘a traumatic affection in a nerve’ which could correspond to the beating she received hours previously. The forensic doctor said, ‘If the blow had been in the correct place it could produce deafness’. He said now the woman is suffering from vertigo is a classic symptom in such a case. In the High Court, two witnesses proposed by the accused claimed ‘the British woman is very conflictive’. The defence has attempted to say the woman was deaf before and therefore the deputy is guilty of a fault and not of a crime.
have completed the necessary forms. It follows the recent seizure of six luxury cars in Torrevieja on the same night as part of the initiative.
According to sources close to the case, the reports are so damning that the Prosecutor has invited both sides to reach an agreement so the prison sentence can be as short as possible. The defendant’s lawyer Alberto Padilla, has asked for Alperi’s daughter to pay 50,000€ in compensation. If she fails to do this, then the judge will open the case summary and she would face between six and twelve years in prison on the charge of causing the loss or uselessness of an organ

END OF THE SUMMER SEASON Brings It’s Little Jobs The visitors have gone and peace reins again, we have had a break from all that activity and some very normal jobs need to be done to protect our garden / patio furniture. We are going to be using our patio furniture less in the next few months. The problem is we could still be using patio furniture at Christmas etc. Some people will have extra patio furniture for when they have guests staying and will not need to have it all out all year and others will be going back home until next year. So I recommend to all of you this is a good time (as the weather should be cooler) to wash down all your patio furniture in warm water with washing

up liquid using a soft bristle hand brush to get into all the nooks and cranies and rinse off or hose down. Do NOT use a jet spray as this can sometimes take off some of the protective coating of your furniture. I do this every year at this time because my visitors have been using sun creams etc., plus the normal sweating and all the dust that has been flying around that happens in the summer months and of course this all sticks. It helps to keep different materials fresher and helps to prolong the life of your furniture.. If you have any removable covers to your cushions or furniture it is also a good idea to gives these a quick wash too.
buy covers or wrap up in plastic and store in a corner of your garden. Please do make sure you allow ventilation. Most garden / patio chairs do stack so won’t take up too much room. If you are going back home for the winter then take all your furniture inside, this will protect it from the winter elements and again prolong the life of your furniture. If nothing else it’s a good idea to take in all your cushions at least including sunbed cushions. Another job not connected to furniture is to clean around the top tiles of your pool as some sun lotions may have stuck there too.
Once everything is clean and dry I By Chris from Furniture Plus decide what needs to stay out for the winter months and the rest I store away in a shed covered up in plastic to keep everything clean ready for next SPECIAL OCTOBER OFFER! Peace-of-mind with Linea Directa We understand that your peace-of-mind is important, especially in your home. Our claims department will take a full statement of the circumstances of the incident. We will check the insurance coverage with you explaining all the procedures. If emergency repairs are required from locksmiths to glaziers, we will help you swiftly handle your claim and get things back to normal as soon as possible. Fortunately, incidents of theft in Spain are relatively small compared to other EU countries, however should you be burgled, your homeowner’s insurance policy will cover the loss or destruction of personal property if it’s stolen from your home. Hold-up outside the home In many cases, your home insurance policy may cover you for any incidents that occur outside your home. Should you be the victim of a hold-up outside your premises your personal belongings are covered. We will ensure replacement documents are quickly and efficiently dealt with, and if required, arrange the locks on your home to be changed. When you discover you’ve been burgled As soon as you discover you’ve been burgled, whether it’s a break-in or theft at your home, first call the police. Don’t touch anything until they arrive. A police report will be needed to process your claim. Then secure your home to avoid further damage, board up any broken windows, make a list of damaged or missing belongings, detail the damage to your home resulting from the burglary, taking photographs of damaged windows or door. Crime rates in Spain remain among the lowest in the EU according to the latest Interior Ministry crime report. However, since the economic crisis began in 2008, there has been a steep increase in domestic burglaries and theft as a result. In 2012 the number of burglaries in homes rose by 25.4%. The message to expat residents is not to panic. There are some simple precautions to take, as you would back in the UK, such as fitting security grills, installing exterior lights and alarms, being careful about what content is posted on social networks, especially anything to do with trips and holidays away from home. It also helps to take out a quality home insurance policy that will cover your home and its contents should any unfortunate incident occur.

Consuegra’s Rose of Saffron Festival October 24-26
Many Mediterranean cuisines use the delicious and colourful seasoning known as saffron in their regional recipes. The bright red-orange threads of saffron are the dried stigmas, or female portion, of the flower of Crocus sativus, the autumn flowering, or saffron crocus. Each bulb can produce several flowers, while each flower produces just 3 stigmas.
Saffron is commercially produced in many places in the world, but most chefs prefer the superior quality saffron grown in central Spain. There, it takes more than 100,000 flowers to produce a pound of saffron. Since only a few strands, or about 1/8 tsp are used for an average recipe, saffron is available retail in fractions of an ounce, not pounds. The red, highly aromatic saffron of “Castilla y la Mancha” is the only one in the world with its own appellation, or DO, (Dominacione de Origen) assuring it is the true Manchegan saffron. On a recent tour of the growing fields in the town of Consuegra, I paid 3.5 euros ($5) for 1gram directly from the grower, Jesus Moreno. (1 g equals .035 oz) It was beautifully packaged in a fancy, wax-sealed bottle, perfect for gifting. The best time to harvest saffron is in mid-morning on a sunny day, when the flowers just open and are still fresh. The morning I was there it was overcast, with patches of rain alternating with brief and elusive patches of sunshine. Just as I got to the fields it cleared and the sun came blazing out. The crocus flowers, tightly closed in purple buds, were slowly opening as Jesus and his wife Jaqu, bent at the waist, inched down the plant rows harvesting saffron. They plucked the whole flower, leaving barren fields in their wake as they slowly filled their baskets.

Each day an established field will send up new flowers where yesterdays were picked, and the process begins again. The whole back breaking harvest is completed within 2-3 weeks. Then the stigmas are separated from the flower and dried before packaging for retail and wholesale distribution. When the saffron
finally reaches your kitchen it needs to be steeped in a bit of warm cooking liquid for 20 minutes or so before being incorporated, liquid and all, into your recipe. The longer it cooks the more flavour is extracted, so it is added early in the cooking process. Saffron also adds colour, similar to turmeric, which is sometimes recommended as an inexpensive alternative. Don’t do it! The intense flavour of saffron, which some describe as slightly bitter, some sweet as honey, and some as redolent of the sea, cannot be duplicated by turmeric. The association is made up of young people from 12 to 18 years old who want to help their community. The Mazarrón Bahia Leo Club and its sponsor The Lions Club of Mazarron Bahia are celebrating the clearance of the ground at Camposol which is the long awaited play area for the Camposol
children and visitors. The planning of the play equipment has happened and hopefully it will be able to be completed so that the children can finally have their play area. The Mazarron Leos wanted to do something for their community and especially to ensure that their younger brothers and sisters and children in the future had somewhere to play. The Mazarron Leos and Lions would like to take this opportunity to say a special thank you to Teresa of the Chronicle and all the many people of Camposol who given their support to this project and showing the true Camposol community spirit. The Leos are very grateful to the many people of Camposol who support them and welcome new members. The works on “C” sector are being undertaken and paid for by MAZARRÓN COUNCIL as part of the original plans that were drawn up by MASA when they asked for approval for Camposol to be built. The LIONS did not make this decision, and if you have any complaints please refer them to ISHMAEL of the council at the Cultural Centre on “B” sector. These improvements

are what many of the residents of Camposol thought would happen when they purchased their NEW HOME IN THE SUN, though it has been a long time coming. We and many of the residents embrace the fact that at last something positive is happening on Camposol.
.As the summer comes to an end and the dark nights draw in, air conditioning is probably not foremost in your mind. However did you know that almost all modern air con units are “inverter units” which can also heat your property and it is a lot cheaper than you might imagine!
AC
On a lighter note the ground behind the Cultural Centre has now been flattened, and as you see the LEOS of Camposol are parading and are continuing to raise funds so that this project can be completed, the first being an evening at the TREVI BAR with the fantastic voice of PITU on the 26th September at 19.30. Please come along and help support the young ones of Camposol. Recently the LIONS held a fantastic GARDEN PARTY with a barbeque and the dulcet tones of PATRICK to wind away the evening.

Adam Coyle´s Services include the installation and the service & maintenance of air conditioning units. He added: “In order for a unit to operate efficiently it must contain exactly the right amount of gas and filters need to be checked and cleaned. Safety is also a primary concern and some older units may contain a banned gas called R22. If this is present in the unit, I can replace it at a competitive price”. Adam prides himself on his straight and honest approach. He always endeavours to find the best and most cost efficient solution for his clients and will only recommend replacing a unit if there is no alternative. His after sales service is also second to none. He said “Many people don´t realise that in Spain the product guarantee is with the manufacturer rather than the supplier, but I will always do everything I can to help resolve any after sales issues”. “I always treat my customers as I would want myself and my family to be treated. We are a family run business and I moved to Spain 2 years ago with my wife Sarah, who has a beauty business, for a better quality life and to spend more time with my parents who have lived here for 13 years. Important Safety Information about using your Log Burner this year. The autumn is finally here bringing with it the cooler days and nights. Many of us therefore, will be getting ready to light our log burners for the first time of the season. Before enjoying the warmth of your log burner, there are some important facts to consider. Burning wood, no matter how you do it, releases pollutants. There is no avoiding this but, how you deal with the associated problems can make a huge difference. One of the main dangers of wood burning is the excessive build up of creosote in chimney pipes. Creosote is a gummy, foul smelling, corrosive and extremely combustible substance that, if no precautions are taken, will coat the insides of everything it passes through. It is formed when volatile gases given off in the burning process combine and condense on their way out of the chimney. The gases leave the burning wood with the smoke. If the smoke is cooled below 250 degrees F, the gases liquefy, combine, and solidify, forming creosote. Creosote takes several forms, all bad. As a liquid, it can run down the insides of pipes and chimneys, oozing out of any openings. It can form a hard layer coating the insides of pipes and chimney liners. It can form into a fluffy substance that plugs pipes and breaks off and falls down, filling low spots in piping. It is the cause of most chimney fires and the reason chimneys and pipes have to be cleaned and inspected periodically. Most of us that have modern day log burners will have what is known as an “Airtight” stove. There is a seal around the door, and the burn is then controlled

by using vents which control the amount of air entering the log burner. Generally most people during the cold weather stack the log burner full before going to bed and then “Choke” the air.
This keeps the house lovely and warm all night. The problem is that an air starved, slow burn, produces relatively cool temperatures ideal for creosote formation. People get up in the morning to a warm house, but may not realize they have also contributed to the build up of creosote Creosote build up is pretty sneaky. You may not notice it at first but it tends to feed on itself. As it builds up, it restricts the flow in the chimney and/ or stove pipes. This slows the smoke on its way out, allowing more

restricting the flow. As with all problems, prevention is better than the cure. That is why it is recommended to have your chimney professionally swept in order to remove all creosote and debris, eliminating the risk of a chimney fire which can be dangerous and costly. Tony the Chimney Sweep provides a quick, clean and hassle free service in order to give you peace of mind when using your log burner this winter. Cañadas De Romero ALL NEW Social and Cultural Centre
We are absolutely delighted to inform our readers of the recent changes that have taken place at Cañadas De Romero social centre near Camposol. Many of you will already know that Oscar from Oscars Bar on Sector B Camposol has been running the Social Centre with the help of his family. During that time Oscar tells us that he had a vision to use the Social centre to its full potential by transforming the bar into a place where people of all nationalities can integrate and socialise together. From running Oscar´s Bar on Camposol, he realised that people
page 22
living locally had a desire to integrate and experience the Spanish Culture, but all too often, didn’t. “The people used to tell me that while they would like to go into a Spanish Bar or Restaurant, they were afraid of being embarrassed by not speaking the language, or not understanding the waiter when ordering. Also I noticed a lot of residents could speak Spanish, but complained that they had nowhere to practice it as everyone on Camposol speaks English! If they don’t practice speaking Spanish, soon they forget how!” Said Oscar. This inspired Oscar’s vision of creating a place where British and Spanish people can truly integrate in a relaxed, friendly environment. A place where people can go to learn and practice their Spanish or English, where they can get free advice on living in Spain and understanding the Spanish system. “If they have a bill or a letter or an email that they don’t understand, or need to know how to pay their taxes, or have questions about healthcare, they can come and see us and we can advise them over a coffee or a beer. I want a place where people can relax and enjoy lunch with their friends, and make new ones!” Oscar said.
www.thejournalspain.es
To help him realise his vision, Oscar has recruited Antonio Hernadez Benitez, who is a well know figure in the local community. Antonio is a qualified English teacher and translator, an expert local historian, and allotment keeper. Antonio will be in charge of running the social centre on a day to day basis and has lots of exciting plans to make Canadas Social Centre the place to be. There will be Free Wifi, free access to computers, free printing, and free translation of documents or emails, free language exchange, fitness classes, Spanish Cooking Lessons, a Petanca Club, Bi-Linguall Bingo, free talks on local history and tradition and a whole host of other activities. On the weekends there will be live music, and every day there will be a fantastic choice of food and tapas available. At The Journal we believe that this is great step forward for our community. We hope that the residents both Spanish and English take full advantage of the opportunity that has been created by Oscar and Antonio and will help make Canadas Del Romero a huge success for everyone!

Friends & Buddies Friends and Buddies is a nonprofit making community group which started life 9 years ago as Friends of Camposol. Shortly afterwards we were joined by Buddies a similar group which was operating in the Port and became Friends and Buddies (often called F & B). The aim of Friends & Buddies is to make available company, friendship and social activities for people on their own. A lot of our members have joined following bereavement when they had to find a social life as a single person rather than as a couple. This means we have a good group of people who understand what the bereaved person is going through and this can be helpful. However the group is for anyone who, for whatever reason, have found themselves living on their own. It is not a dating agency!

D Sector Community Group Well, it has been a very hot summer this year, so not much has been done gardening wise. We were going to resume work in September but will wait until it has cooled down considerably. Our bucketeers have done a grand job in the heat and we would like to extend a big thank you to them all, and of, course, all those people who contributed. It was good to see the dual carriageway lights back on and hope that the whole carriageway will be alight soon. We have had some requests for roundabouts to be cleared, and would advise that Antonio will resume work soon and he is going to remove this waste. We had a very successful Summer Party on the 22nd September with nearly

Technology what exact combination of pros and cons people want. The very fact that Ha:Mo is a new system makes it worth trying.
France’s Bizarre Three-Wheeled Buggies May Be the Perfect Electric Vehicles The streets of one French city will soon be filled with funky vehicles that resemble hulked-up mopeds. But before you make fun, consider that while they look silly, the way these things are being used may make them the perfect electric vehicles. Next month, Toyota and Grenoble will launch a program giving residents access to two of the weirder vehicles built in recent memory. Through the Cité Lib by Ha:Mo (harmonious mobility) system, Toyota is providing 70 EVs that can be rented for short periods of time. Like bike sharing, the idea is to give people a way to get from public transit stations to their destinations, covering the “last mile” so they don’t feel the need to take their car. Anyone 18 and older with a driver’s license can sign up for the program, which uses two kinds of Toyota vehicles: the three-wheeled i-Road, which seats one, and the
page 26
four-wheeled COMS, with room for two. Fees vary, but expect to pay about €3 for 15 minutes, or €5 for half an hour. Users can park at any of 27 stations around the city, where they plug in to charge before walking away. The vehicles are better than Smart cars for moving around a cramped old city like Grenoble (manoeuvrability is an undervalued part of mobility), though you can’t just park them wherever. Using electricity instead of gasoline is good for the environment and lungs of le peuple, but not as good as making everyone pedal. In any case, these are early days for vehicle sharing services, and we don’t know
www.thejournalspain.es
One potential weakness of the Ha-Mo program is its network of just 27 parking/charging stations. The fact that the cars must be parked there limits their usefulness. Surely some residents will be too far from stations to make the vehicles worth renting. Toyota could take a lesson here from Car2Go San Diego, one of the cities where the program uses electric instead of gaspowered cars. There, users can park wherever they want, unless the car’s battery drops below 20 percent of its range while they’re driving. In that case, they must end their journey at one of the stations around the city where they can plug in. If Ha:Mo follows suit or finds another way to solves that issue, it could finally make mass EV adoption—if not ownership—a reality.

of information at a time, but only at the expense of larger antennas. That adds to the cost and development time because the antenna and radio chip must be made separately, bonded together, and then tested. The Berkeley/Stanford team went the opposite direction, by
This chip is an all-inclusive radio that harvests power from the messages it receives. Engineers from UC Berkeley and Stanford University have printed an ant-sized radio onto a silicon chip. Small radios, but most transmit and receive at lower frequencies. They can send lots
amping up their data rate to 24 GHz for receiving and 60 GHz for transmitting (most microradios top out at around 900 MHz and 2.4 GHz, respectively). “One of the benefits of going to high frequencies is that the wavelengths get smaller and you can put the antennas on the
chip itself,” said Ali Niknejad, a co-developer of the radio and director of UC Berkeley’s Wireless Research Center. This also reduces the amount of energy the radio needs to transmit, so much so that it can charge itself by scavenging energy from the signals it receives. Moving to the higher frequency also lets the little radios send data at extremely fast rates (3-4 times faster than your phone), compensating for the lower volume of data it can send at a time. Coming up with tiny, cost-effective radios has huge implications, and not just so your refrigerator can text you when your lettuce starts going bad. Niknejad says he is currently working on a DARPA proposal to integrate these chip radios into larger chipsets, so the government can make sure the technology they buy hasn’t been tampered with. Another example would be embedded chips in retail items. Instead of seeing a cashier, you’d simply walk out of the store with your cart full of items, which would ping a central database and subtract the cost from your bank account before you reach your car.

Diamonds are forever’ sang ‘Our Shirl’and they are, quite literally. ‘Diamonds are a girl’s best friend’ trilled Norma Jean as ‘Marilyn’, cascading in bling, publicised famous sellers like Harry Winston and Tiffany. And who doesn’t love a big sparkler of some sort lighting up the dark Halloween- heading nights, flickering in romantic candlelight, or by the light of the fridge door as you attack the chocolate kept within. Diamonds are pricey. We can’t all afford the monster rocks sported by some royalty and hip hop stars, unless of course you do a bit of TV shopping. The more ‘perfect than perfect’ stones available these days may not have been hewn out of the rocks by some bare backed labourer in South Africa or other diamond hotspots, but who cares, if they’re a fraction of the price, and can fool most jewellers into thinking they’re the real thing, which they technically are, but as diamonds have inclusions, these don’t. They make great statement pieces, and are ideal to wear in the more notorious holiday hot spots where sporting the real thing would just be madness.
Mugger: ‘Gimme your ten carat ring!’ Me: ‘Okay, no problem, I’ll just get another one when I get home.’ Mugger: ‘You must be rich, now hand it over!’ Me: ‘Not rich, just a savvy shopper, mate. These are only fifty quid off the telly!’ Mugger: ‘Keep it then. I don’t want no trash worth nuffink.’ (The above didn’t happen, but I’d love to see his face if it did.) These days, diamonds can be made into any designs, but did you know you can have your own diamond created? Not from rocks, but in a lab, using the strangest Want to stand ingredients. Dog hair, your own hair, beard shavings, and…wait for it, the ashes of a beloved. I kid you not. So, imagine hubby as a bright sparkler on your hand, reminding you of his pension contributions should he have left this earth, or in the case of one lady, her dog, not even pedigree, just a 57 varieties, beloved companion, his hair converted into a diamond that would be with her forever. they are ‘grown’ but you can pick a shape. If your deceased beloved had a lot of Boron in their body, the diamond will take on a blue tint. Some companies offer green, red, yellow (canary diamond copy) but most naturally come out with a blue tinge. Shylock’s ‘A pound of flesh!’ rings slightly true here, in that a pound of human ashes are enough to create a diamond. Reasons To Have Your Windows Tinted
by Nigel Pugh of NP Skinz
Window tinting has become a very important part of my business. Let’s face it, it makes your vehicle look better. Many of my customers have their windows tinted for visual appeal, but there are many other reasons to consider having a high quality film applied to your windows. I will outline the 7 top reasons to consider a film application: Decrease Interior Heat – Quality window film can provide up to a 78% reduction in heat transfer. This reduces the sun’s effect of heating up the inside of your car decreasing the amount of time that you will need to use your air
2014
conditioner. This can result in extending the life of the vehicles AC system.
offer varying shades of window film to appeal to almost any taste. If you do not
Energy Savings – As stated above, reducing interior heat can reduce the demand for AC use. This can have a significant impact on fuel mileage and a savings at. Who wouldn’t want that? Reduce Interior Fading – Quality film can block up to 99% of UV ray. This help to reduce fading of your seats, carpets, dash and wood trim. It also works to extend the life of these items. Reduce Health Risks – Exposure to the sun is known to cause potential health risks to the eyes and skin. By blocking 99% of UV light, window film will also act as a “sunscreen” to protect from the harmful effects of the sun. Reduces Hazardous Glare – Glare while driving can blind vision and create a dangerous condition. Window film applied to a vehicle’s side and rear windows can significantly reduce glare. Increase Safety and Security – Accidents can turn a window into thousands of dangerous shards of glass. Window film can act to hold the glass together during an accident. It can also impede a would-be thief from gaining access to your vehicle.
want to darken the windows, but still want the benefits listed above, we have a film for that too! We only use high Quality 3M Brand window films that won’t crack, fade, or bubble. Call me for a quote for your specific vehicle and to find out about the other services that I offer such as Vinyl Wrapping of your vehicle to Improve appearance and protect paintwork. OCTOBER GOMAD ARTICLE by Anne Bennett Christian Humanitarian Aid Charity for Mazarrón & the surrounding area. Hello Folks Well as I write this we are still sweltering in the heat and so are the animals but we do all we can to keep them cool for example frozen bottles of water in with the Rabbit and Guinea Pigs to try and make their homes a little cooler, we have been busy putting up more sheltering for the Donkeys & Pony’s so they have shade., (all they need now is a swimming pool, mini bar and sun loungers and life will be perfect for them. We had another new addition to our family of Donkeys this month...and wow what a stunner he is. Yes he may be old, he may be blind in one eye and very little sight in the other and yes he may have the most collapsed mane you have ever seen in your life from being worked so hard and starved, this boy i bet could certainly tell us a story or two, but he is the most precious Donkey ever. We saved him from going to the slaughter house, he now will spend his last years with us being loved and cared for. We did not have a name for him so we ran a competition on our Facebook page Andreas Animal Rescue & The Henrietta Foundation. People were asked to donate €1 and choose a name for him. The winning name was Alberto and it suits this fine old Gentleman perfectly. An update on Lucario is that his legs are healing nicely now, a few more weeks and he should be able to have the bandaged removed for good, then he will be up for adoption. Also Karla who is a five year old Palomino pony (light brown with beige main and tail) who was rescued from the perrera is now looking for her forever home. If you have the room and would like to own a pony give me a call and we can discuss her.
Helping those in need irrespective of race, creed or status. We have two events this month to help us raise much needed funds. On Friday 3rd October sees our Table Top at 6 Calle Alicante, Camposol A from 11am – 3pm, there will be various stalls and refreshment will be provided. Also our bi-annual Fashion Show will take place on 20th October at Mariano’s Restaurant/ Bar from 3 pm onwards with the Costa Cálida Radio DJ Edie B providing the music. So please come along and have some fun, maybe find a new outfit to wear at the many Christmas functions whilst helping others less fortunate than ourselves. On 16th August we joined the Fiesta Day at the Camposol Golf Club and had a “Vintage Stall” selling antiquity type items kindly donated. This together with the twice monthly Table Top Stall situated on Camposol B are ways in which we try to raise funds, together with our two shops. We are continually amazed at your generous donations without which we would not be able to help the families we do. We will appeal again with the run up to Christmas for toys for the ‘Toy Box’, together with the usual shower gel, shampoo, sanitary towels and nappies. We wish to thank Los Amigos Golf Association for their generous donation of 500 euro’s, which we are going to put towards purchasing books and school equipment for the families with children of school age. So we also appeal this month for items like pens, pencils, pencil cases, rulers, rubbers, pencil sharpeners, even the simplest of items cost money and most of the families we help just can’t afford to purchase them.
FUTURE EVENTS
I know I say this every month but if you feel you can help in any way with either donations (cash or goods to sell in our shops) please pop into our shops in either Mazarron or Fuente Alamo. If you do not have anything that we could sell to raise money a bag of carrots for the donkeys or tins of food or biscuits for the Dogs is always very much appreciated. Please don’t forget that I am stood on Camposol B car park on Mondays 11.30 until 1.30 for the collection of your unwanted goods, and to have a chat about animals if you need information or advice. Until next month then.....Thank you for reading Andrea and the AAR team

Los Palacios Gardening & Community Group
Traditions: In May, Camposol upheld the ancient tradition of Well Dressing on Paque Los Palacios, attended by many of our local groups. The event went so well, it is planned to be repeated next year. We are fortunate that Los Palacios has these wonderful spaces that can be used and enjoyed by all residents. If you would like to be part of the initiative to maintain these areas, please email me on joce@lospalacios-gardeners.com Our members enjoy many social gettogethers whilst contributing something to the community, check our notice board for upcoming events.. Contemplation: Coming up on the social calendar is Remembrance Day. This is on 11th November and focuses on remembering all those loved ones who have passed on - not only military. It is a very positive day and we expect a very good attendance including local Council representatives. Details can be found on our notice board opposite the post room at the commercial centre, or again email me for further information. Speculation: On 17th October we have a Race Night Scheduled at the Vista Bar. If you would like to enjoy chicken & chips on the night and the event, tickets are just 5 euros. Tickets are available on Friday mornings at the Book Cabin. Christmas will soon come round and we are repeating our Amapola Party Night
on 13th December. Martin Ross will be entertaining us and the usual great food can be sampled together with Cava on arrival. Communication: This month the Group was invited by the Mayor of Mazarron, Francisco García Méndez, to discuss the top ten concerns of the residents and owners of Los Palacios. A group survey produced a firm list which the Mayor stated would be acted upon. Pavement repairs have already commenced and materials for Memorial Park works were delivered on Monday 15th September. Heavy repair works will commence at the end of September when hopefully the current high temperatures will have reduced. All in all a very busy and positive month - watch this space for more news of Camposol culture & environmental issues. Joce Grant - Group Secretary www.lospalacios-gardeners.com

cleaning, weeding and spraying the streets of ‘C’ Sector North in strict rotation, and we welcome new worker John, and Ken who joins us for another three months hard labour(!) Our scheme has now been operating for a few years and it’s hard for new homeowners to appreciate what Camposol ‘C’ would look like without us: There used to be waist high weeds in every road, terrible pot holes, no neat gravelled kerbs or planted areas and lots of rubbish blowing about. It seemed like a ‘forgotten’ and very dirty area. No-one likes living or spending their holidays in such a place, so if you don’t already belong to our scheme, please consider joining? It only costs a small donation of 5 Euros per house each month to have the whole of ‘C’ Sector North swept, cleaned and sprayed. Every Euro of each member’s monthly donation is used to enhance the whole area, which has improved beyond recognition as each month passes, thanks to a lot of hard work. However, we are totally dependent upon your help, so thanks to those who spare a minute to take care of any plants near their homes, those who have offered our working parties refreshments and those who contribute to our buckets! Hopefully, one day when we are fully adopted by the Ayuntamiento, their roadsweeper will visit us a little more often than twice per year and Green Finger’s Maintenance Scheme will no longer be needed, but until then we ask that you give some thought to joining us, even if your house is only used as a holiday home – unfortunately the weeds don’t have holidays and your street still needs clearing all year round! Our volunteer working parties have begun working again every Wednesday during the Autumn/Winter season and we’d like to appeal to anyone who can spare a couple of hours to please come and help continue the improvement of our area: We meet at the Sensol Villas office (old Masa house) at 9am. Butties for breakfast are free, and don’t worry if you can’t do heavy work; there are light tasks inc. weeding, planting and watering! Come along and make new friends, even if you’re only here on holiday you’ll be beautifying your whole community! Don’t forget our Christmas Meal & Dance on 3rd December at the Golf Club with live music from Al Jay. Tickets

Hairdressing as a career
by Debbie Cook of Euphoria Hair and Beauty Have you ever thought of Hairdressing as a career? 36 years ago, I started my training as a hairdresser and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I have had a fun, interesting and long career. The real beauty of being a hairdresser is that it is something that you can take anywhere in the world, and there are so many opportunities and different avenues to pursue in the industry. Firstly you can work in a salon on a day to day basis and earn a really good living. This is very rewarding and if you are with the right team of people great fun. There is nothing quite like the salon vibe. Alternatively you can go into teaching and earn a good wage. Its very rewarding and to see young people learn is quite magical. Also cruise ships are an option you might want to pursue. Its extremely hard work, but it is fulfilling and rewarding and best of allyou get to see the world! Hairdressers also have the opportunity to work in the film industry work on movies and television sets. Alternately, there is session work, this is where you travel to different shows & companies from all over the world to demonstrate your skills or work for someone like Wella or L’Oreal and run workshops for aspiring young hairdressers. Working on Photo shoots might be your thing. Styling hair for magazines is a joy. Although, like all hairdressing it is hard work , but it is great fun and very lucrative. Hairdressing is a fantastic career to get into, yes the wages are very poor when you are training but once you are through that the world really is your oyster. Some people think that hairdressing is for the not very bright; as my husband used to tell me ‘you are only cutting hair and chatting all day’! Believe me there is a lot more to it than that. For one thing there is a heck of a lot of science involved because we are dealing with a lot of chemicals. We have to learn all about hair structure and what these chemicals do to the hair and how each process affects it.We need to know how to identify scalp problems and what to do about them and when to refer the client to a doctor. And this is just scratching the surface (pardon the pun)! Let me assure you it is very hard work. There is an awful lot to learn and it’s a bit like learning to drive you learn the basics but once you are qualified then that’s when the real learning starts and you never stop learning I know I haven’t. I have been teaching a young girl here for the last two years and she has just passed her level 1 & 2 N.V.Q in hairdressing, when
Health &Wellbeing she started I said to her there will be days when you really love what you are doing, and there will be days when you go home in tears with frustration because you just can’t quite understand something. At the time she said that wouldn’t happen but believe me it did! The most important thing you can do is get really good training. If you are thinking about learning the best thing is to find a good salon that will teach you by giving you an apprenticeship this way you earn and learn at the same time! You can also go to college to learn but having been a teacher for many years I have found that being in a salon environment really helps with the learning process and you really learn quickly as you see things on a day to day basis and you also learn all about the running of a salon too. This comes in useful if you ever want to open your own salon. So if you want a career that will be rewarding, exciting, interesting, creative, and fun, think about becoming a hairdresserYou are never too old to learn something new!(After all hairdressers are claimed to be the happiest people in their work) By Euphoria Hair and Beauty Salon , Puerto Lumbreras. EYES SORE, RED, TIRED. Red eyes are characterised by dilated blood vessels causing the appearance of redness on the surface of the eye. It is important to look after your eyes and it is recommended that you visit an optician every 2 years for a check-up. Eye problems are a common occurrence and can affect anyone. Modern life is busy and demanding and anyone is susceptible whether in the work place, at home or at leisure SYMPTOMS The common symptoms of minor eye problems include feelings of being sore, red, itchy, burning, tired, scratchiness, dry, or a sensation that there is something in the eye. Symptoms of more serious problems can include pain, blurred vision, discharge, inflammation or sensitivity to light. CAUSES Dry, dusty or smoky atmospheres can all cause eyes to become sore and irritated. Eyes can appear red because the vessels in the surface of the white portion of the eye become enlarged. Common eye problems can be caused by allergies, in particular hayfever, or by the environment you are in In the workplace computer screens or airconditioning can be responsible as can long distance or motorway driving. Recreational pastimes like swimming or socialising in smoky pubs, clubs or restaurants can be common causes.

Pollen, grit, dirt and pollution can also play a part. Too much straining of eyes at tiny objects, computers or fast-moving objects can cause fatigue of eye muscles causing redness of eyes and possibly pain. Exposure to dust, wind and smoke can cause burning and redness or watering of the eyes. In more serious cases this can cause infection or conjuntivitis. TREATMENT Most products on the market to treat minor eye problems can only be purchased from a pharmacy. They contain antihistamines (for allergy related symptoms), astringents (for sore eyes), antibacterials (for minor infections), lubricants (for dry eyes) or vasoconstrictors (for sore, red eyes). Vasoconstrictors can help reduce swollen blood vessels, soothing and removing redness from the eyes. Many of the treatments cannot be used at the same time as contact lenses so check with your pharmacist and always read the label and instructions. WHEN TO CONSULT? Because eye sight is so vital and the eyes so delicate you should err on the side of caution. If over-the-counter eye drops haven’t helped within a few days and the problem has been ongoing, see your doctor so they can find out the cause and recommend treatment. If you have bloodshot eyes for longer than a few days you should see your doctor. If you are suffering with sudden pain, blurred vision, inflammation or discharge you should consult your doctor straight away. USEFUL TIPS Blink consciously when doing close or continuous work. Blink fully with the whole lid shut, rest your eyes with regular breaks from screens, reading or bright objects every 30 minutes. Wear good quality sunglasses. Close eyes for a few seconds from time to time to give them a rest. Avoid smoky atmospheres. Use a humidifier to reduce the dry atmosphere in the home and office. Avoid car heaters, particularly at face level. Sit away from direct heat such as gas or electric fires. Use eye drops when irritation starts or when doing activities that can irritate or dry the eyes eg. watching television, reading, sewing and writing. This is all for now. If you have any questions do not hesitate and ask to Camposol pharmacy team. By Jose Luis Martínez-Lozano Martínez (Pharmacist).

Health &Wellbeing Tips for Staying Healthy in Your 70s, 80s, 90s...
Stress can have an enormous impact on your health and your quality of life at any age—and even more so as you get older. In fact, according to a recent study published in the Journal of the American Geriatrics Society, depression and anxiety are linked to physical decline in seniors. Concerns like: “Will there enough money now that I’m retired?” and “What will happen if I get a serious illness or become disabled?” are common in older adults. Seniors are at increased risk for depression. If you’re feeling overwhelmed, or unable to cope or deal with stress, it’s important to reach out to family, friends, caregivers and health care providers.
Research shows that you’re likely to live an average of about 10 years longer than your parents—and not only that, but you’re likely to live healthier longer too. So how do you give yourself the best possible chance for a long, healthy life? Although you aren’t able to control every factor that affects health as you age, many are in your hands. Some keys to living a long, healthy life include: Make healthful lifestyle choices—don’t smoke, eat right, practice good hygiene, and reduce stress in your life Have a positive outlook Stay as active as possible—mentally and physically Take safety precautions See your health care provider regularly and follow his or her recommendations for screening and preventative measures One of the most important things you can do to stay healthy in your golden years is to maintain your sense of purpose by staying connected to people and things that matter to you. According to experts, walking may help prevent physical disability later in life. In a large study researchers focused on sedentary men and women between the ages of 70 and 89 who either met twice a week for a supervised walk around a track and received instruction to walk or do balance and flexibility exercises three to four times a week at home or attended weekly workshops on healthy aging. After an average of 2.6 years, the walkers were 28 percent less likely to have become persistently physically disabled than the nonwalkers, suggesting that it’s never too late to start.

The risk for certain medical conditions— including heart attack, stroke, dementia, diabetes, lung disease, chronic pain, some types of cancer and other health concerns increases with age. However, healthy lifestyle choices can help reduce your risk for many of these issues. Here are some other common problems that can develop, even in relatively-healthy seniors: Balance Disorders—Many older people experience problems with balance and dizziness (vertigo). There are many different causes for balance disorders, so contact your health care provider if you feel unsteady or dizzy. Falls and fall-related injuries (including hip fractures) are serious concerns that can have a significant impact on your life and your ability to live independently. Memory Problems—it’s important to know: While some degree of forgetfulness is normal with age, significant memory loss or cognitive decline is not an inevitable part of normal aging. Serious memory problems or a decrease in cognitive function may be caused by a treatable, underlying condition— such as dehydration, malnutrition or sleep deprivation—or a medical problem like Alzheimer’s disease or dementia.
however, many older adults don’t get the recommended amounts of physical activity. Staying active can boost vitality, help maintain strength and flexibility, improve mental function, reduce your risk for health problems, and even help relieve chronic pain. Find an activity you enjoy and begin slowly. Try to incorporate endurance activities, strengthening exercises, stretching and balancing exercises into your exercise program. Good choices include walking, swimming, biking, gardening, tai chi and exercise classes designed for seniors. Trouble Sleeping—Many older adults do not get enough sleep. Insomnia and excessive daytime sleepiness are common problems. Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH, enlarged prostate), which affects as many as 90 percent of men in their 70s and 80s, can cause frequent night-time urination that disrupts sleep. If you’re having problems sleeping, these tips might be helpful: Make sure your bedroom is dark and quiet and that it’s not too warm. Adjust your bedtimes. Go to bed when you feel tired and get up at the same time each day. Turn off the TV at least one hour before going to bed. Wind down before bed by taking a bath or listening to soft music.
Inadequate Nutrition—As you get older, it’s more important than ever to eat right to stay healthy and maintain energy levels. However, good nutrition is a challenge for many seniors. Changes in your senses of taste and smell can affect your appetite. Slower digestion and metabolism can change how your body processes food.You may have difficulty shopping for, purchasing or preparing nutritious foods and meals. Slower digestion also can cause constipation. Make sure to get enough fibre—found in fruits, vegetables and whole grains—in your diet. Lack of Exercise—Exercise is an important part of a good health at every age;

The real champion of the day was the winner Nigel Chadderton who, playing off a single figure handicap, returned a score of 38 points, to win by two points. He was followed into 2nd by Pete Smithson on 36, Terry Bowles in 3rd on 35. Nearest the pin winner was Terry. There was also a game played at Camposol on the 23rd July whilst yours truly was on holiday, and no report was filed until now. The winner was John Taylor, 34 points, and 2nd was Joe Chalk on 31 points. There was no nearest the pin winner. A reminder to all members that when playing the 12th at Camposol, PLEASE wait to tee off, until you hear the bell ring……..accidents can happen so easily. We are booked to play at Hacienda on the 28th October, and Camposol on the 12th November. All members and guests welcome. Geoff Sharp hatters45@msn.com
Welcome back………… On Tuesday 19th August, 15 members & 1 guest gathered at Camposol Club de Golf, where a welcome was extended to our treasurer, Ian Dalley, who has at last been able to throw away his crutches and get out on the course to play alongside other members. Ian has suffered for some time with health problems and only been able to watch from the 19th. I am not sure that he was quite so pleased at the end of his round to learn that because he played so well (35 points) that his handicap will have to be lowered.
Los Amigos de Mazarrón Golf Society Open Competition It was the 1st of September, and 76 golfers descended upon Hacienda del Alamo Golf Resort for what was scheduled to be a great day’s golf. Advertising by our main sponsors, Kia Motors, Luz Del Sol and Euronics was in position and suitably arranged and it all augured well for a great day. Our thanks must go to the Course Manager, Lee Harrington, and his staff for their hard work in preparing the course to an excellent standard. 19 teams of four; many from our own society, means many people moving around the course but, by 09:25 everybody was in position for a shotgun start at 09:30. All players appeared to enjoy their golf without trauma so, straight to the Presentation of Awards:
3rd with 62.3 points: Team: Three Eagles & a Birdie. Captain: Norman Whibley with Terry Moore, Derrick Stephenson and Lynne Whibley. In 6th place with 66.1 points was the highest finishing Los Amigos team; LAGS 1; Captain: Tony Kniveton with Ian Robinson, Phil Hutchison and Jez Cooper. Our grateful thanks for their sponsorship are extended to KIA Talleres M Gallego, Luz Del Sol, Alphapools, TJ Electronics, @Home, C&M Construction, The Great Golf Company, The Black Bull Camposol, Avalon Funeral Plans, Decklid, 2Let2Sell2Buy, Mr Print, Ex Pat Pensions, Aguilon, La Peraleja and Lorca Golf Resorts. We raised a fantastic amount of well over €7,000 to help local children’s charities, and Tuesday, 2nd September was the Presentation Evening with the presenting of cheques to the ASPADEM School, BASE Infantile Football of Mazarrón and Making a Difference. At a special Awards Evening held in the Black Bull on Tuesday, 2nd September, we were able to donate the majority of money raised directly to the recipients. Our thanks to those who donated raffle prizes for that event including, La Cumbre Hotel, Viggos Restaurant, Mamma Mia, Gula Gula, Leonardo’s, UK Supplies, Hotel Costa, 7th Heaven, La Farola, Camposol Ferriteria, Juani & Pedro Garden Center. We must also say thanks to: Carol of the Black Bull, who in addition to making a most generous donation, also provided an excellent cold buffet to those attending the Presentation Evening. Also, to Lisa B for providing the music and PA system. Finally, a very big thank you to all those players who took part in the 2014 Los Amigos de Mazarrón Golf Society Open Competition.

A Hong Kong tycoon has placed the biggest ever order for RollsRoyce cars, agreeing to buy 30 Phantoms to chauffeur guests at a luxury resort he is building in Macau.
Stephen Hung
Stephen Hung's $20m (ÂŁ12m) purchase surpasses the 14 Phantoms bought by Hong Kong's Peninsula hotel in 2006. Hung signed the deal with RollsRoyce executives on Tuesday at the company's Goodwood factory in England. The extended wheelbase Phantoms will be used for guests at Hung's "ultra-luxury" Louis XIII hotel, which is scheduled to open in early 2016. Rolls-Royce said two of the cars will be the most expensive Phantoms ever commissioned, complete with goldplated accents on both the exterior and interior. Louis XIII Holdings said it would pay the carmaker a $2m deposit, $3m more by the end of the year and the remaining $15m when

the cars are delivered in the first half of 2016. The Phantom's list price is about $600,000, but many buyers order custom features that push prices much higher.
Hung has even enlisted a descendent of Louis XIII to help with the hotel's design, based on French Renaissance and Baroque styling.

Customers have been known to spend more than $1m on bespoke models. With casino revenues of $45m last year, Macau is the world's most lucrative gambling market, outpacing Las Vegas seven times over. After authorities ended a casino monopoly a decade ago, newly wealthy gamblers from mainland China started pouring in to glitzy new resorts built by foreign operators such as Las Vegas Sands and Wynn Resorts. The boom, however, is beginning to fade as the Chinese president Xi Jinping's 's corruption crackdown starts to bite, putting a dampener on lavish spending by China's wealthy. Macau's gambling revenues fell 6% in August, the third straight month of annual decline after five years of uninterrupted growth. Hung, a former investment banker, is known for his flamboyant style and the resort looks to be the flashiest of the wave of expansion projects now under construction in the tiny Chinese territory near Hong Kong. The resort will boast a 1,860-sq metre (20,000-sq ft) villa billed as the world's

– using nothing but saltwater. Its radical drive system allows the 5,070lbs (2,300kg) Quant e-Sportlimousine to reach 0-60 mph (100 km/h) in 2.8 seconds, making it as fast as the McLaren P1. After making its debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show in March, the saltwater technology has now been certified for use on European roads. The 920 horsepower (680 kW) Quant e-Sportlimousine uses something known as an electrolyte flow cell power system
to power four electric motors within the car. It works in a similar way to a hydrogen fuel cell, however, the liquid used for storing energy is saltwater. The liquid passes through a membrane
in between the two tanks, creating an electric charge. This electricity is then stored and distributed by super capacitors. The car carries the water in two 200litre tanks, which in one sitting will allow drivers to travel up to 373 miles (600km). Overall, the four-seater is 5.25 metres (0.4ft) long, 2.2 metres wide (7.2ft), the 1.35 metre (4.4ft). Its 22-inch wheels sit just beneath double gull-wing doors which feature ‘Chrystal Lake Blue’ paint.

Property, Financial and Legal + + + + + PRESS RELEASE FROM EXPAT PENSIONS + +++ BUDGET PENSION MEASURES START TO PAN OUT........ The Chancellor’s Budget announcements on pensions in March caused not only confusion among those in retirement or nearing retirement age, They also caused a sharp intake of breath across the whole financial services industry!! Suddenly, what seemed a fairly settled landscape was in turmoil - financial advisers are starting to draw conclusions on what we can expect in the run up to the next Election and the Budget in March 2015. Don’t imagine that George Osborne’s budget proposals were driven by a preelection desire to put more money, or the prospect of more money, into your pockets. That may be an end result, but consider these factors as the more likely driving force. The national deficit, an ageing population and slow economic recovery

Herbs & Spices Riddles Q: A rooster lays an egg at 6:00 AM. When does the farmer find it? Q: Six glasses are in a row. The first three are filled with milk and the last three are empty. By moving only one glass, can you arrange them so that the full and the empty glasses alternate? Q: What has feet and legs, but nothing else? Q: What happens when you throw a blue rock into the yellow sea? Q: A man was found dead in his study. He was slumped over his desk and a gun was in his hand. There was a cassette recorder on his desk. When the police entered the room and pressed the play button on the tape recorder they heard: “I can’t go on. I have nothing to live for.” Then there was the sound of a gunshot. How did the detective immediately know that the man had been murdered and it wasn’t a suicide?
