“Property Sales and Rentals”

JOURNAL

THE Dear Reader,

Welcome to the September 2014 edition of The Journal! This month we have another fantastic, feature filled, issue for you to enjoy! August was one of the busiest and most successful months in many a year for local businesses. Virtually all that I have spoken to have reported a year on year increase for the month. This really is great news for the area as it shows that the light at the end of the tunnel is shining bright, after a number of difficult years for business owners. If you are one of the many residents and holiday makers that has spent the summer showing your support for local businesses then give yourself a well-deserved pat on the back. This month we have lots to report! Jelly fish invaded the beaches of Los Urriutias, near Mar Menor rendering the area useless to bathers after thieves reportedly stole the lead weights from nets further out at sea used to stop the Jellyfish washing up on the shore! Having been stung by a Jellyfish for the first time this summer, I can testify that it is a far from pleasant experience, and only hope that the nets have now been fixed. We are delighted to announce a new group has been formed, aimed at novices that would like to learn to play the Ukulele. Ukuleles are small, fun and easy to learn. They are inexpensive too and can be purchased on eBay for less than 30€! So what are you waiting for? Look out for the advert later in the magazine. Things in the Real Estate sector are busier than ever, and we would like to welcome back Blue Med Estates to our magazine. The guys over at Blue Med are so busy that not only are they seeking fresh properties to sell, but they are on the lookout for some new staff members to help them cope with demand! Also Villaquest are on the move. They have outgrown their old premises by Mercadona in Puerto De Mazarron. They have now moved round the corner next to Ibex insurance to a larger showroom giving them the space to showcase their fantastic property portfolio. This is great news all round, and demonstrates that the property market in the area is moving in the right direction. There really has never been a better time to buy a property in the area! Even though it still feels like summer, the colder autumn nights are looming and soon it will be my favourite time of the year- Log Burner time! Get yourself prepared by calling Tony The Chimney Sweep, who will make sure that your chimney is in perfect working order for the winter! You will find his number inside. Enjoy this month’s magazine everyone! Kind regards, Robert Rutherford

Bus Chaos As UK Tourists Stranded In Spain

Sixty-two tourists travelling from London to Spain with the low-cost coach travel company Megabus were left stranded for over seven hours after the British driver of their vehicle was arrested in Girona. A routine road trip turned into an overnight ordeal for passengers of a coach owned by Megabus travelling from London to Barcelona via France. Catalonia’s regional police force, the Mossos d’Esquadra, reported that they had stopped the vehicle for a routine check at Maçanet de la Selva near Girona on the AP-7 motorway which runs along Spain’s Mediterranean coast. Police said that the British driver was found to have falsified travel documents required to carry passengers and was duly arrested. But Megabus denied this version of events and told The Local: “Our driver had the correct documentation and identification for his journey and was well within his legal driving hours . There appears to have been a technical issue with the way the journey was being recorded.” The passengers were left stranded at a service station after police allegedly blocked their access to alternative

transport. “We arranged for replacement vehicles to allow customers to continue their journeys, supplied by a Spanish coach operator. However we are concerned

that local Spanish police prevented passengers from using these vehicles, resulting in a significant and unnecessary delay to their journey,” said Megabus in an official statement. After being denied access to transport, the passengers were forced to find their own accommodation for the night, which Megabus has agreed to pay for. “Our team kept in touch with passengers by email throughout the night and attempted to find accommodation for them which unfortunately was not possible. We advised that we would cover all costs for passengers who made their own arrangements for onward travel. We will also be issuing a full refund and providing complimentary return travel for all customers affected,” said the company. “We will be raising concerns with the appropriate authorities in Spain about how this situation was handled and the impact on our customers using this service,” they added. Megabus offers a limited number of seats on the service for as little as €2 ($2.68) with the rest being priced according to demand. Their coaches are larger than usual,

carrying 72 instead of 50 passengers, and the company is part of the Stagecoach Group which operates across the UK, Europe and North America.

The Balearic Islands government is cracking down on sex and alcohol tourism by launching an advertising campaign in the British press. Spearheading the campaign is the Balearics’ tourism councillor Jaime Martinez, who wants to end the recent sexual misconduct and drink-spiking culture that continue to colour the Islands’ reputation. Though the campaign is already spreading on social media sites and will be in the tabloid press by the end of the month, Martinez announced a special collaboration with the annual World Travel Market in London this November. The goal of this partnership is to utilise contacts that the international tourism event bring together – including the Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) and the British press – to get the message out. Turespana, Spain’s national tourism organisation, the Spanish ambassador in London and the UK Foreign Office have all given their support to make Ibiza, Mallorca, and the other Balearic Islands a more attractive holiday destination.

“The Best For Food, Drinks, Entertainment And Sports” Camposol sector A 127 kilo cocaine haul found on Spanish naval training ship

A 127-kilo cocaine haul with a street value of almost€500,000 was found aboard the Spanish

naval training shipJuan Sebastian Elcano docked in Cadiz. The discovery was made by the Civil

Guard who seized and searched the vessel when it returned to Spain following a six-month global voyage. The drugs are thought to have been loaded in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, where the boat stopped in mid-April. In early May more than 20 kilos of cocaine loaded on ship was sold while it was docked in New York, with the Spanish authorities then tipped off by the US department of Homeland Security Investigations. It took until last month when the ship moored off of the northwest Spanish city Pontevedra to detain three suspected sailors – two Spaniards and an Ecuadorian – for drug

trafficking. It is unknown whether the three had accomplices, though US authorities report the men were paid €3,800 for every kilo they trafficked.

Brian Jones Property Maintenance If you have “persianas” you will probably know that they are the pull down shutter blinds which cover the windows of most Spanish properties. However what you may not realise is that if they break or are becoming worn with the passage of time they CAN be repaired and Brian Jones of Brian Jones Property Maintenance is the man for the job! Brian is well known in Mazarron having lived and worked in the area for around 12 years and whilst he can “turn his hand” to most things he specialises in plumbing work which includes the supply and maintenance of boilers, construction of pergolas and most recently in the supply and repair of persianas. Brian said: “I have noticed that many of the persianas are the original fittings and not surprisingly they are getting worn and parts are breaking down. Most people think that the simple solution is to replace the persiana but what they don´t realise that to do this it is usually necessary to replace the whole window unit. However what they also fail to realise is that persianas can be repaired and I have a wide range of fittings which can restore the persiana, making it look and operate like a new blind. I can also fit additional security locks to persianas and windows to improve the security of the property” “In many cases it is possible to replace the current plastic fittings with new

metal fixings so that they last longer in the future” Plumbing is the “bread and butter” side of the business and Brian Jones Property Maintenance does all types of plumbing work including the supply, repair and maintenance of gas and electric boilers. Due to the hardness of the water here in Spain; pipes, boilers and appliances tend to have a shorter lifespan than in the UK and Brian can also supply and install whole house water filtration systems to eliminate the limescale which causes many of the problems. The construction of practical yet very attractive pergolas is also a speciality of Brian Jones Property Maintenance and Brian has many design examples that customers choose from. ARE YOU SURE THIS DOES NOT APPLY TO YOU? Have you been in Spain for 8 years or more? I am giving up on being a domestic goddess! After getting fit from my injured leg and ankle with the ironing slip up, I managed on the 22nd June to completely break my ankle putting away the hoover, and I have to say it has been a lot more painful than the first time around. Surprise! Surprise! I am far from impressed with this latest disaster of mine. So here I am stuck at home, finding daytime T.V. does not really do it for me. With my newly found free time I decided to catch up with some personal paper work, which was long over due to say the least. I had some forms for various different

companies regarding PPI claims I could make from when we were in England, but these forms were stating claims from only 8 to 10 years ago. I felt it was going to be a waste of time and ink completing these forms as we had been here for 10 years plus. Talking to my brother about this paper trail he recommended a company called The Fair Trade Practice to me. He had started using them and said I should give them a bell. Well, I got straight on the “old dog and bone”, which I always prefer to pen pushing and everything was so easy. The VERY BEST BIT is the 8 – 10 years which was being implied is rubbish. This company look into your loans, mortgages and credit cards going back 20 years or more. That’s more like it! They do it all for you, chasing any companies you have been involved with

2014

whilst you were in the U.K. All you do is put your feet up and let them take the stress, right up my street. Since then I have spoken to friends who have tried to get their PPI claims sorted themselves with no good results to boast about. They have been told it will be dealt with, but they’ve had no response and one company never even bothered to send the required forms. One was told that now you live in Spain you cannot claim, so they have filed their paper work away again. This just isn’t true, and it’s been so much easier having a U.K. based company do all the work than doing it myself overseas. It’s worth looking into , these are some of their statistics for you to consider: 1 in 3 of their clients have successful claims 81% of their successful clients did not think they had PPI Their average successful client can receive £3,400 95% of their clients are recommended to them, which says a lot about a company in

this line of work. They are not a hard selling company and they do not advertise as they work on a word of mouth policy. I have to say I like how this company acts towards their clients, in a calm and professional attitude, this is one of my main reasons for recommending them. You can find out more on their website www. thefairtradepractice.co.uk. As well as clients in the UK they have clients in Spain and as far afield as Brazil, Australia and many other countries too. If they find that you do not have any PPI there is no charge so you have nothing to lose. You can contact Adam Lawrence by email at adam.lawrence@ thefairtradepractice.co.uk or telephone +441329 223 660 and ask for him directly. When they ask you who recommended you just say Chris in Spain. Why not see if you get some pounds back from mis-selling, turn them into euros and get a nice present for yourself. Good luck with your claim, I am looking forward to getting back to work soon before I end up climbing the walls. Written By Chris of Furniture Plus.

Jellyfish Invasion In Murcia!

info@camposolbusiness.com explained the variety of jellyfish, ‘Cotylohiza tuberculata’ has no sting, but their massive number makes it impossible to bathe. The centre also reported this year had been quiet for the dangerous jellyfishes, such as the Portuguese Caravel.

Spain Sets New Organ Transplant Record Thousands of jellyfish invaded Los Urrutias Beach near the Mar Menor in August. Normally nets offshore stop the invasion, but reports indicate the lead weights which hold down the nets have been stolen, allowing thousands of jellyfish to reach the beach. The locals are indignant, because they say a fisherman had warned Civil Protection that the weight’s had been stolen in a length of between one and two kilometres. Cleaning brigades from the City Hall worked on Saturday and Sunday at Los Urrutias and Punta Brava, but minutes later the smack of jellyfish was back. The Murcia Oceanographic Centre

WHAT TO DO IF YOU’VE BEEN BURGLED. Statistics in Spain Crime rates in Spain remain among the lowest in the EU according to the latest Interior Ministry crime report. However, since the economic crisis began in 2008, there has been a steep increase in domestic burglaries and theft as a result. In 2012 the number of burglaries in homes rose by 25.4%. The message to expat residents is not to panic. There are some simple precautions to take, as you would back in the UK, such as fitting security grills, installing exterior lights and alarms, being careful about what content is posted on social networks, especially anything to do with trips and holidays away from home. It also helps to take out a quality home insurance policy that will cover your home and its contents should any unfortunate incident occur.

Peace-of-mind with Linea Directa We understand that your peace-of-mind is important, especially in your home. Our claims department will take a full statement of the circumstances of the incident. We will check the insurance coverage with you explaining all the procedures. If emergency repairs are required from locksmiths to glaziers, we will help you swiftly handle your claim and get things back to normal as soon as possible. Fortunately, incidents of theft in Spain are relatively small compared to other EU countries, however should you be burgled, your homeowner’s insurance policy will cover the loss or destruction of personal property if it’s stolen from your home. Hold-up outside the home In many cases, your home insurance policy may cover you for any incidents that occur outside your home. Should you be the victim of a hold-up outside your premises your personal belongings are covered. We will ensure replacement documents are quickly and efficiently dealt with, and if required, arrange the locks on your home to be changed. We hope the information provided in this article is of interest. If you would like to contact Linea Directa please call 902 123 069 More information on Linea Directa online at www.lineadirecta.com

When you discover you’ve been burgled As soon as you discover you’ve been burgled, whether it’s a break-in or theft at your home, first call the police. Don’t touch anything until they arrive. A police report will be needed to process your claim. To our surprise not only was it built, installed and varnished, but when we came to pay for it, we were told that it had been jointly funded by the SIERRA ESPUNA MASONS and CAMPOSOL BRIDGE CLUB. Little-Known Regulations to Be Aware of During the Summer

Did you know that what’s permitted by law in one region of Spain may not necessarily be allowed in another? Always managing to comply with State, regional and local legislation is not simple at the best of times but can often be confounded during the holiday season when we tend to travel around a lot more than usual. Although familiarising yourself with the local laws of the region that you’re travelling to would not be at the top of your list of things to do before you set off, sometimes it might be necessary unless you are happy to incur a fine for breaking the law. Below are some of the strangest regulations that you could find yourself getting into trouble over during the summer months. Many of these are activities that we often do naturally, without thinking. response was unbelievable and more than €5,100 was handed over to MACS.

Team Harmony – Our Story

We have to date raised more than €26,000 and hope to make this €30,000 by the end of this year.

This month I thought that I would tell you a little about the history of Team Harmony and some of its members. Originally our fundraising work started in 2008 and our first event was “I’m a celebrity get me out of here” held at our home in Lorca in aid of PAWS animal charity. We thought that this would be a one off, but while having dinner with friends one night, one of the group told us about her problems with the cancer treatment that she was receiving and the huge help that MACS cancer support group was in helping her to cope both practically and emotionally, so after a few glasses of wine “Spain’s Got Talent” was launched. We had no idea at this point how it would work, but I have to say, people were fantastic, we very quickly had 12 acts entered and 180 tickets sold. It was a brilliant evening and we went on to hold 2 more contests raising money for Help for Heroes and San Animal (a locally based animal charity) plus some smaller events over this time; raising a total of 18,000

We certainly could not have achieved any of this without the generosity and pure talent of the acts that have given so much of their time which include: Martin Ross Lawford, The CAS band, The Classic Rock Band, Suzy Gee, Rough Justice, Dee, Paul Michael and Stevie Spit. Thank you to all for your continued support.

We had thought to retire at this point until the murder of Lee Rigby when my husband Dennis Blandford felt so strongly that as ex pats we should stand together against such atrocities. So we decided to hold an event at The Aguilas Resort Hotel and the support was phenomenal from local businesses and people wanting to attend the event. More than €2,300 was donated to the “The Fusiliers aid fund”.

Well; now I need to tell you about some of the team, most of whom have been with us from the very beginning. We have the most amazing bunch of people that give so much of their time, some travel more that one and a half hours to attend our events, pay for their tickets and then work all night so don’t even see the shows. Not only this, some also work tirelessly for Macs cancer support charity, others for San Animal. I am totally in awe of such special people that just give so much and feel very proud to work alongside them.

We thought at this point that our fundraising needed an identity; therefore Team Harmony was born. This then spurred us on to organise another event in March this year, again in aid of MACS cancer support Group. The

As we were only formed as Team Harmony in January I find it incredible that we have a website, entirely

designed and run by Andy Eustace. A fabulous Team Harmony song has been written and sung by Paul Hawtin and a Team poem written by the very talented Christine Lawford. I also need to mention that Elaine Meynell from San Animal spends many hours designing our posters and tickets. I asked some of the team to speak about their part in this venture and the funniest was from Joan Claridge who said “being a member of Team Harmony is like being on one of those scary funfair rides, you don’t know why you do it but you want to go back for more” Jeannie and Tony Kettle said “we love being part of Team Harmony, not only do we have great fun at the events, but

ISIS Plans To Recapture Andalucia

A militant force growing in the east is threatening to take over the western world. The violent jihadist terrorist group known as the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria, or Isis – publicly disavowed even by al-Qaeda for being too extreme – has now set its sights on Spain. Two young Isis extremists appeared in a YouTube video last month vowing to liberate al-Andalus, the ‘land of our forefathers’. By al-Andalus, the men are referring to Moorish Andalucia as it was during 700 years of Islamic rule – and which Isis claims is rightfully theirs. In the minute-long video, a smiling jihadist wearing a kefiah scarf around his head asserts in Spanish, with a heavy North African accent: “I say to the entire world as a warning: we are living under the Islamic banner, the Islamic caliphate. “We will die for it until we open those occupied lands from Jakarta to Andalucia. “And I say: Spain is the land of our ancestors and we will open it with the power of Allah.” Last month, Isis formally declared an Islamic state in the vast expanses of the Middle East that have fallen under its control. It extends from the Syrian city of Aleppo to Diyala province in eastern Iraq. When announcing the caliphate – an Islamic state ruled over by a Caliph – the militants refer to the state as ‘restored’, reinforcing the conviction that this is land that is rightfully theirs. The self-appointed Caliph of this new Muslim state is Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi,

the driving force behind the Isis takeover. Al-Baghdadi – who has a $10 million US bounty on his head, and rules under the name Caliph Ibrahim – is a mystery figure. He is believed to have been born in Samarra, north of Baghdad, in 1971, and joined the insurgency that erupted in Iraq soon after the 2003 US-led invasion. For seven years he went underground, only reappearing as the leader of Isis in 2010 when it was still an al-Qaeda affiliate, based in Iraq. His stature has grown exponentially since then, transforming his umbrella organisation into a trans-national military force. Isis has released a map on Twitter (pictured, right) showing the countries it plans to occupy within the next five years. It spans from Morocco – renamed Maghreb – to the borders of China. India and parts of China combine to form a region called Khurasan; the Balkan states, including Greece, Romania and Bulgaria, become Orobpa; Yemen and Oman form Yaman. Spain is clearly singled out as being a key European target. The most unlikely ‘victim’ of this Isis announcement could be al-Qaeda, which has carried the mantle of the jihadi cause since the 2001 attacks on the World Trade Center. Isis was born of al-Qaeda but the father figure has been forced aside by its rebellious offspring. The leaders of the two militant groups have clashed publicly since Isis emerged as an independent force in April last year. Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri, realising he was losing control of the Isis branch of his group, demanded that Isis return to Iraq and leave Syria to the al-Nusra Front, another jihadist group in Syria. But Isis publicly rebelled, and alZawahiri was forced to formally disavow the group in February. Initially a Sunni group, Isis has transformed into the go-to destination for extremists of any views, with a number of Shi’ites now joining the ranks. More than 20,000 fighters have

reportedly now declared loyalty to the Isis cause. And, with considerable military success, the group is surpassing al-Qaeda as the world’s most dangerous jihadist group. Most importantly, the Islamic State has now achieved what al-Qaeda never could, establishing a state that stakes their claim to the heart of the Arab world and controlling it. But it is the presence of foreign fighters – from countries like the UK, France, Germany, Spain, Cambodia and Australia – that has most significantly unsettled the west. In Madrid in June, eight jihadist recruiters were arrested, and 12 others suspected of terrorist activity. A further eight were arrested in Ceuta while other collaborators were traced to Huelva, Malaga and La Linea. All were suspected of funding, indoctrinating and facilitating travel for would-be fighters, and all are Spanish citizens.

Car Dealers Caught Clocking Cars

“We are in a state of shock. We thought car dealers were all honest.” Said no one, ever, as national police have arrested 27 used car dealers for dialling back cars’ odometers to sell them at a higher price. The investigation began after a man bought a car in Toledo thinking it had undertaken a total of 87,000km, only to find out it had actually travelled 207,000km. Since this incident, 48 falsified cars – from 24 dealerships – have been found in five provinces. Authorities have reported that only a small percentage of falsified cars ever get discovered by their owners.

The equipment needed to turn back odometers can be bought online for as low as €100 – roughly 10% of the profits dealers stand to make from dialling back the numbers on just one car. Used car sales are up 4.5% from last year, putting a record number of Spain’s population at risk for being scammed. According to the Federation of Associations of Automotive Dealerships, two used cars are bought for every new car purchased in Spain. Used car owners can protect themselves by looking up the kilometrage records on any car’s inspection reports, now tracked by the National Department of Traffic.

Technology

Made in Spain: ice cream that changes colour A Spanish scientist-turned-chef has come up with the world’s first ever colour-changing ice cream. The secret ‘recipe’ is actually within us. Manuel Linares is no ordinary scientist. A qualified physician, engineer and mathematician, he started cooking classes as a way of combatting stress, he told online Spanish daily El Confidencial. He took his new passion to a level

page 26

and completed an MA in ice cream making. That’s when he came up with his idea for an ice cream that changes colour as you lick it. “Everyone laughed, but as a physicist I know that there are various possibilities that might work and I was delighted when I managed to crack it and create an ice cream the changes colour,” Linares told the Science Recorder. Dubbed Xamaleon, the ice cream reacts to the acidic nature of our saliva and the heat of our tongues by changing colour from blue, to purple and pink as it gets licked off. Although Linares hasn’t completed the patent process yet for his self-proclaimed “elixir of love”, the chameleonic cooler is only available in his newly opened ice cream parlour in the Catalan town of Blanes and in another store in neighbouring Calella de Mar (north-east Spain). The frozen dessert is a tutti frutti of flavours including strawberries, pistachio almonds, banana, caramel and vanilla; all of which are all-natural ingredients. “We’d love to set up more ice cream parlours across Europe offering the Xamaleon and many other awesome flavours we’re working on,” Linares told The Local. “I’ve had to put together a list for my mum of all the articles that have been written about my ice cream, she says she’s so proud of me and needs to show them all off to her friends.”

Robots To Take Half The Jobs In Spain More than half of the jobs currently being done in Spain could be taken over by robots in

the next 20 years, according to a think-tank. The study from Brussels think-tank Bruegel found 55.3 percent of jobs in Spain at the moment could be computerized and left to robots in the next two decades. European countries most at risk from this computerization were Romania (62 percent) and Portugal (59 percent). The exact effect this could have on unemployment rates is unclear because as technology takes over, new jobs are created, meaning those who lose their work to robots will not necessarily become unemployed. “Technology is likely to dramatically reshape labour markets in the long run and to cause reallocations in the types of skills that the workers of tomorrow will need,” Jeremy Bowles of Bruegel wrote about his study last week. “To mitigate the risks of this reallocation it is important for our educational system to adapt.” A study published in September last year caused a stir when it listed the jobs in the USA most at risk to robots. The study calculated how at risk jobs were of computerization by identifying three things which hinder robots potentially taking over the job – creative intelligence, social intelligence and perception and manipulation tasks. Telemarketers (at a 99 percent risk), clerks, referees and credit analysts were among the jobs most likely to be taken over by robots, while those least at risk included recreational therapists, social workers and doctors. “I find it hard to believe robots can

2014

do telemarketing jobs,” Konstantin Appelt, CEO of Call Centre Barcelona, said. “It’s been tried before already and it failed. People don’t want to talk to machines, they just hang up straight away.” The Bruegel think-tank took this

data from the 2013 study which was based on USA employment figures and applied it to Europe to find out how at risk European countries were.

Spanish Scientists Find Distant ‘dying planet’

Astronomers at an observatory in Almería have become the first in Spain to find an ‘exoplanet’ – a world outside our solar system with their discovery of Kepler-91b, a ‘dying’ world orbiting a red giant star some 3,360 light years from Earth. An international team of astrophysicists led by Jorge LiloBox and David Barrado at the German-Spanish Astronomical Center at Calar Alto in southern Spain used computer simulation to analyze data from NASA’s Kepler space telescope to discover the alien world. The Kepler satellite telescope is designed to find Earth-like planets orbiting distant stars. It

2014

detects eclipses – changes in the brightness of starlight caused by planets passing in front them. In the case of the red giant star KIC 8219268, some 6.3 times bigger than the Sun, it was observed that a reduction in luminosity occurred every 6.24658 days. At first it was thought that the reduction was a ‘false positive’, caused by light curve variations. Further investigations into the distortions of the star’s shape caused by the gravity of a passing object confirmed the presence of a planet, which was named Kepler91b. It is only the 16th exoplanet to be confirmed by this method, of more than 1,800 exoplanets discovered so far in total. Despite being 35 percent bigger than Jupiter, the biggest star in our solar system, Kepler 91-b has 14 percent less mass, making it less than half as dense as water. The unlucky planet is constantly blasted by radiation from the nearby red giant. It is in the final stages of its life and will be swallowed by its mother star in approximately 55 million years.

Spaniards named biggest tech addicts in Europe

interviews with 18 to 65-yearolds across Europe carried out by Samsung and market research company Ipsos MORI. Spaniards top the tech table with nearly nine daily hours of gadget usage, followed by the Italians (7h 48min) and the Norwegians (7h 36min). The average time spent on devices per day in other European countries is as follows: Sweden (6 hours 30 mins), Germany (7 hours 24 mins), Switzerland (7 hours 2 mins), Hungary (7 hours), UK (6 hours 54 mins), France (7 hours 2 mins), Netherlands (7 hours 30 mins) and Finland (6 hours). “We’ve seen a similar trend with teenage internet usage in Spain, it doubles the European average,” Marc Masip, a Barcelonabased psychologist specializing in disorders relating to new technologies, told The Local. “There haven’t been any sociodemographic studies on the matter so I can’t accurately say why Spaniards are more addicted to screens than other nationalities. “What I do know is that mobile phones are the main ‘culprits’; we carry them with us at all times and they’ve replaced our reality with a virtual existence.” Through his therapy practice Desconecta (Disconnect in Spanish), Madip teaches his patients, mainly youngsters, how to get over their nomophobia: the irrational fear of being without mobile phone contact that 77 percent of users suffer. “We’re bringing up a generation of cowards who only say “I love you” or “thanks” on Whatsapp because it’s more ‘convenient’. “They’ll end up not having the social skills to tackle a job interview or ask their girlfriends to marry them.” Ironically, Madip is also the cocreator of a phone app called FaceUp, which collects data on your phone and internet usage and sets challenges to stop you from reaching out for your mobile all the time.

Spaniards spend an incredible 8 hours and 48 minutes a day using devices outside work, making them the most tech addicted people in Europe, a new study has found. Dawn Llewellyn-Price For the first time in a decade, I had some respite from the heat of summer by going on a road trip to the UK, partaking of a twelve day holiday, living from the boot of the car and hotel rooms, even seeing rain. When a couple of family events were announced, flying back for just a couple of expensive days during high summer seemed mad. ‘Let’s have a touring holiday along the way, and ‘do France’ I suggested. Virgoman pulled a jib, but with memories of a lovely, albeit stuffed to the roof with household items, trip down when we first had our villa I convinced him that a couple of holdalls and an empty vehicle would be an easy option. Negotiating the Mediterranean road to the border (heeding all warnings) we stayed at a motorway hotel the first night and ‘did’ Carcassonne the following day, driving on through fields of sunflowers finding a hotel the second night run by a Frenchwoman who’d been to West Wales and married a guy from Eastbourne. Next day on to Rouen, and Monet’s cathedral in all it’s glory. Onto the

banks of the Seine we went, a fifteen minute walk from the cathedral, where we arrived five minutes before a free piano concerto within, and following a glass of vino in the square afterwards, discovered the most amazing sound and light show covering the exterior walls starting at 11pm. Jaw dropping. Through the Chunnel next day, via a chat with army major type about the Somme and his Gordon setter, Wedding and 40th in London heat over the next two days, plus a visit to Kew Gardens in sunshine, thunder and lighting. Back to France and Cap Gris Nez for a fleeting visit, then Le Havre for the night, ready to ‘do’ Normandy and Arromanches, Gold and Juno beaches, the D Day museum, Pegasus Bridge and Ranville cemetery the next day. Heart-breaking stuff, during this 70th anniversary year. Caen for the night, then La Rochelle, where we spent a lovely evening wandering, eating calamares in herbs de Provence, watching street performers, and trying to count the yacht masts. Impossible. Bordeaux next, where we parked underground near the river, only to find a large pool of engine oil sliding away under the car. Amazingly not ours, but a hideous ‘moment’ for Virgoman, who took an hour to recover from the shock. Great city, like most, best viewed on the ‘Wally Trolley’ tourist train. Pau was our last stop in France, the chateau, funicular railway, boulevard des Pyrenees, then on to Zaragoza for our finale. Amazing city. Open top bus opened our eyes to the modern half of this digital centre with cable cars and water parks and two way cycle paths. We didn’t book a single hotel except for London. Just picked one in the SatNav and away we went. Luck was with us

MAZARRON BAHIA LEO CLUB

Well summer was hopefully going to be a quiet month..No such luck for us or the poor animals that have found their way to be with us. So welcome to 2 Shetland Ponies plus a baby foal ( we think he is a cross between pony and donkey ) but whatever he seems to have been landed the name Little Will and what a sweetheart he is, quite a little Red. Rum charging round the paddock. Talking of paddock we have been very busy here clearing the paddock and re-designing it into two halves, one all sandy and soft for the relaxing times and the other half where hopefully they will learn is for going to the toilet in, feeding and having a race around and playtime. Minty our Sheep has also had a new friend arrive after a call from The Country Club where she had been found..welcome Henrietta..although she is not looking her best and is thin after a check up from the vet and de-ticked I am sure given time she will be looking quite sharp. The Lana Appeal is going along steady and the good news is we are half way towards reaching our goal of €4000 euros for our quarantine block in which all new comers can be placed until we know they are safe to be integrated with the rest of the gang. Talking of the rest of the gang please don’t forget we have a large and varied selection of dogs needing that permanent and forever home, they come in all shapes and sizes and also apart from the dogs we have 7 guinea pigs that would make the perfect child’s first pet..they are so cute and inexpensive to keep and take very little room...hint hint please. If you feel you would like to donate please come and browse our shops in Fuente Alamo or Mazarron where you will receive a warm welcome and the biggest smile ever if you drop some coins in a collection box or come bearing items that we can sell in our shops. Please remember to follow our Facebook Page Andreas Animal Rescue for all the latest information and see how chaotic our daily lives are...never a dull moment here...wish there was sometimes...wonder what a normal day is like ????

a few minutes to go, add the chapattis to the barbecue in batches to warm through. Serve the kebabs with the minty salad, cooling mango yogurt and chapattis, and let everyone assemble their own wraps.

Mexican corn on the cob A winner whatever the weather, chuck it on the barbie or just get the grill going - it can’t fail Ingredients Veggies needn’t feel left out at barbecues with these Indian-spiced kebabs. Ingredients 3 tbsp tikka paste 500g tub yogurt 2 tsp cumin seeds thumb-size piece fresh root ginger, finely grated 250g bag small new potatoes 300g paneer cheese, cut into chunks 3 red onions, peeled and sliced into wedges through the root 2 red peppers, deseeded and cut into chunks 5 tbsp mango chutney small pack mint leaves, leaves picked 250g bag salad leaves 12 chapatis Method Soak 12 wooden skewers in water for 30 mins (this helps to stop them burning). In a large bowl, mix together the tikka paste with half of the yogurt, the cumin, ginger and seasoning. Boil the potatoes in a pan of boiling salted water for 7 mins, then drain well and tip into the tikka mixture with the paneer. Gently mix into the marinade, then chill for at least 2 hrs to take on flavour. To assemble the kebabs, alternately thread the marinated potatoes and paneer onto the skewers with the onions and peppers, then cover on a tray until you are ready to barbecue. Heat the barbecue or a grill. Mix the mango chutney into the remaining yogurt, and the mint leaves into the salad leaves. Barbecue or grill the kebabs for 10-15 mins, turning, until the veg are charred and softened. With

Spice up barbecued sweetcorn with chilli, lime and lashings of melted butter Ingredients 4 corn cobs 100g butter, softened zest 1 lime 2 tsp chopped fresh chilli or 1 tsp chilli powder, mild or hot, depending how spicy you like it lime wedges, to serve Method Soak corn in cold water for 15 mins. Heat a griddle pan or barbecue and, when hot, place the corn directly on the bars. Cook for 30-40 mins, turning regularly, until the corn is tender and charred in spots.

4 skinless boneless chicken breast fillets 1 tbsp paprika 1 tsp dried onion flakes ¼ tsp cayenne pepper 2 tsp dried thyme 1 tbsp sunflower oil 200g tub guacamole, to serve Method Dry chicken with kitchen paper, then cut diagonal slashes over the smooth side. Mix spices with seasoning, then tip onto a plate. Brush the chicken on both sides with the oil, then coat all over with the spice mix. Heat a barbecue, griddle pan or grill, then cook the chicken for 5-6 mins on each side until cooked through. Serve each portion with a dollop of guacamole.

Meanwhile, mash the butter with the lime zest and chili. When the cobs are done, top each with a knob of flavoured butter and serve with lime wedges.

Camposol ‘C’ Green Fingers Gardening and Social Group

Our regular Monday and Wednesday maintenance workers have continued with street cleaning, weeding already planted areas and watering! These high Summer temperatures continue so please think of both the plants in your own gardens and those planted near your casa by our volunteers; All are suffering in these hot temperatures and winds so if you would like to adopt a tree, please choose one (or however many you wish!) planted either along the roads or near the different features we have, then just tie a ribbon or tape on it to designate it as ‘yours’; Total responsibility for it’s watering and care will pass to you and you can watch it grow and flourish knowing it’s because of you! Trees may be adopted as a way of remembering a special someone, or just to become more involved in looking after your area. September sees the re-commencing of our volunteer working parties on Wednesday mornings at 9am near the Sensol Villas office; If you can spare some time and energy to help, we would really be grateful and your efforts are always rewarded with a free breakfast! We continually receive positive comments about the transformation our teams have made to ‘C’ sector North: It’s hard to recall what it used to look like before the tidy verges, trimmed trees and swept streets, so if you’d like to make new friends and grow some muscles

at the same time, please get in touch! Future projects for this Autumn include concreting areas of Calles Begijar and Puerto Lumbreras before the Winter rains and completion to landscaping of the lower Petanca court.

Los Palacios Gardening & Community Group Working Behind the Scenes

A huge thank you must go to the kind Camposolers who donate to our bucket collection together with those who are members of our maintenance scheme, and of course those who have worked on individual areas near their own homes; without your support and that of our volunteers, none of this would happen and it all makes a huge difference. Our next Social Evening is at the Golf Club, 8pm on 5th September with Itchy Fingers: entry by ticket only; 6 Euros donation, and tickets will soon be available for our Christmas Meal and Dance on Wednesday 3rd December at the Golf Club with Al Jay; 18 Euros entry donation. Please support us at these functions as they promise to be great evenings in the company of good friends! If you have any unwanted gifts which you’d like to donate for our raffles, they are always appreciated, thank-you. "The Name You Can Trust"

Although the summer weather dictates that most physical work comes to either an end, or a at least progresses at a very slow pace, the Gardening Volunteers are still kept very busy. Apart from the forthcoming events which have to be planned and organised, the bookstall still continues to function. Pauline has ensured that the service is even more efficient by the installation of interior bookshelves, where a large number of books can now live in a permanent home and all the books are in alphabetical order by authors. This has provided more viewing areas and has cut down on the work needed for setup and put away. With approximately 3,000 books, the shelves were a very welcome addition. The bookstall now incorporates a large number of books in the German language, so spread the word to your German neighbours. The funds from the Bookstall enable us to carry out improvements to the public areas on Sector A and thanks go to all who those who support this initiative. To quote a well known brewery phrase,

“It´s possible the largest stock of English and German books in Murcia”. You will also still see our Bucket

weather conditions, but they carry on cheerfully and enjoy the banter from regular donators as they pass by. This regular stream of funds is crucial to the Volunteers being able to carry on adding to the stoned areas and making our Sector a talking point on Camposol. Our Events Team have planned the next “Social”, which is a Race Night at the Vista Bar on the 17th October. Make sure you get your tickets early from the Bookstall on Friday mornings, as last year they sold like hot cakes. (Look out for information on the boards opposite the Bookstall). Details of our Christmas Party Dance will be published shortly (13th December, Amapola Hotel) and we are pleased to announce that Martin Ross will be entertaining us that night. www.lospalaciosgardeners. com Joce Grant - Group Secretary

Health &Wellbeing The Straw that Broke the Camel´s Back!!!

The Straw that Broke the Camel´s Back – now that´s a phrase we have all heard before. It´s a phrase or analogy that we use a lot at the chiropractic clinic. When something or someone it carrying a heavy load and is near breaking point, it only takes a little to tip them over the edge. When the camel is nearing breaking point from carrying several bails of hay, it only take that one straw to create a severe reaction. So how does this apply to health? There are many examples that can be applied to this analogy, none more so than heart disease, such as angina. Angina usually presents as chest pain with associated pain into the left arm. It occurs when a major blood vessels of the heart become constricted or blocked. Usually 70% blockage is required for the problem to become symptomatic. So let me ask you a question. Is a non-symptomatic

65% blockage of one the major heart blood vessels healthy? I can think we can all agree no. That final 5 % is the tipping point when using this example. So what is the solution here? To reduce the blockage to the point of no longer feeling symptoms? OR to completely clear the blockage? So how does this apply to what we see as chiropractors. Most of us have heard of a friend or relative that ´just bent down to big something up´ and were suddenly immobile due to back pain. That is a classic ´straw that broke the camel´s back moment.´ So what to do at this stage? Often traditional chiropractors will give that magic adjustment that makes a patient feel immediately better, the ones we know do a great job with this. But what has actually happened here? The final straw has been taken away leaving the majority of the bail there. As structural chiropractors our approach is different. Our goal is to remove the bail, to return the spine back to its correct position and to keep our patients far away from that final straw moment. If you are seeking a long term solution for your spinal health, please contact us to hear more about our solution.

Constipation in adults Constipation is most often defined as having a bowel movement less than 3 times per week. It usually is associated with hard stools or difficulty passing stools. You may have pain while passing stools or may be unable to have a bowel movement after straining or pushing for more than 10 minutes. Considerations Normal bowel movements are different for each person. You may not have a bowel movement every day. Although some healthy people always have soft or near-runny stools, others have firm stools, but have no trouble passing them. When you rarely have a bowel movement, or it takes a lot of effort to pass stool, you have constipation. Passing large, wide, or hard stools may tear the anus, especially in children. This can cause bleeding and may lead to an anal fissure. Causes Constipation is most often caused by: • Low-fiber diet • Lack of physical activity • Not drinking enough water • Delay in going to the bathroom when you have the urge to move your bowels. Stress and travel can also contribute to constipation or other changes in bowel habits. Other causes of constipation may include: • Colon cancer • Diseases of the bowel, such as irritable bowel syndrome

Constipation in children often occurs if they hold back bowel movements when they aren’t ready for toilet training or are afraid of it. Home Care Children and adults should get enough fiber in their diet.Vegetables, fresh fruits, dried fruits, and whole wheat, bran, or oatmeal cereals are excellent sources of fiber. To reap the benefits of fiber, drink plenty of fluids to help pass the stool. Regular exercise may also help establish regular bowel movements. If you are confined to a wheelchair or bed, change position often. Also do abdominal exercises and leg raises. A physical therapist can recommend exercises that you can do. Stool softeners (such as those containing docusate sodium) may help. Bulk laxatives such as psyllium may help add fluid and bulk to the stool. Suppositories or gentle laxatives, such as milk of magnesia liquid, may help you have regular bowel movements. Enemas or stimulant laxatives should only be used in severe cases. These methods should be used only if fiber, fluids, and stool softeners do not provide enough relief. When to Contact a Medical Professional Call your doctor immediately if you have sudden constipation with abdominal cramps and you cannot pass gas or stool. Do NOT take any laxatives. Also call your doctor if you have: • Been using laxatives for several weeks or self care is not working • Blood in your stool • Constipation alternating with diarrhea • Rectal pain • Sharp or severe abdominal pain,

2014

Your doctor will perform a physical examination, which may include a rectal exam, and will ask questions such as: • How long have you had constipation? • How many days do you go between two bowel movements? • Is constipation worse when you are stressed? • What is the color, shape, and consistency of your stools? • Is there any bleeding with bowel movements? • Do you have any abdominal pain? • What surgeries or injuries have you had? • What medications do you take? • Do you drink coffee or alcohol? Do you smoke? • What other symptoms do you have?

Prevention Avoiding constipation is easier than treating it, but involves the same lifestyle measures: • Drink plenty of fluids each day (at least 8 glasses of water per day). • Eat lots of fiber. • Exercise regularly. • Go to the bathroom when you have the urge. Don’t wait. By Juan Basilio Galindo Tovar (pharmacist).

Training for the 2014-15 is well underway for Mazarron FC. At the time of writing fixtures have not been released but the season is expected to commence on Sunday 14th September. Training began on 4th August with a mixture of some players from last year and some new “hopefuls” hoping to impress in pre-season training and practice games. Mazarron took part in a three team tournament at Miranda on Saturday 9th August as part of the local fiesta activities against Miranda and CD Juvenia. Each team played each other in games of 45 minutes and Mazarron emerged as the tournament winners. They beat the host team, Miranda, 2-1 coming back from 1-0 to win with two goals from Bryan. In the second game they played CD Juvenia who defeated Mazarron twice last season but Mazarron this time came out on top with another

Away from the football, Los Amigos has a very busy social calendar with many events organised for members and friends throughout the year. Spanish league keeps growing star power Two months after Spain’s national team flopped at the World Cup, the country’s domestic league is ready to shine with even more star power. Already boasting the sport’s two biggest names in Ballon d’Or winner Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi, the Spanish league got even richer in individual talent with the addition of several players who stood out at the tournament in Brazil, including James Rodriguez and Luis Suarez.

Madrid has again flexed its monetary muscle as the world’s richest sports club

2014

and the sale of Cesc Fabregas and Alexis Sanchez.

The club spent about 115 million euros ($154 million) for Rodriguez, the Colombian who led the World Cup in scoring, Germany midfielder Toni Kroos and Costa Rica goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

“We have done well to reinforce our squad,” Luis Enrique said. “After having important departures, the club has made a big effort so that I have a one-of-a-kind team.”

“This could be the beginning of an important era because I am lucky enough to coach a fantastic squad,” said Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti, who led the team to its 10th European Cup title last season. But the most talked-about move of the off-season was Barcelona’s deal with Liverpool to add the gifted and volatile

Messi, Suarez and Neymar.

Suarez to an attack already featuring Messi and Neymar.

Besides Germany’s 7-1 win over Brazil in the semifinals, perhaps the most memorable moment of the World Cup will likely be Suarez’s ignominious bite of an Italian opponent that led to the Uruguay forward receiving his third suspension for sinking his teeth into another player. This most recent ban was softened to let him practice and play friendlies with Barcelona, but Suarez cannot play a competitive match until Oct. 25.

But the key to the Spanish league remaining a compelling competition will hinge on its defending champion. Atletico’s title run, as relentless as it was surprising, did much more than give the capital’s “second team” its first league title since 1996. It also was the perfect retort to criticism that the league had become a boring, perennial two-horse race. Atletico, however, has lost several key players. Striker Diego Costa, goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois and defender Filipe Luis all joined Chelsea, while David Villa left for Major League Soccer. Atletico coach Diego Simeone will now have to retool his attack around newcomers Mario Mandzukic and Antoine Griezmann. “Our reality in the league is to focus on Sevilla, Valencia and Athletic (Bilbao),” said Simeone, who, like last season, continues to relish the underdog role. Below the top three, Bilbao, Sevilla and an up-and-coming Villarreal seem set to battle for the fourth and final Champions League spot. The main goal for at least half of the 20team competition will again be staying in the top flight.

Barcelona’s distractions don’t end with Suarez. Court investigations into Messi’s alleged unpaid taxes and Neymar’s contract are ongoing, while the club is appealing a one-year transfer ban for violating rules regarding youth players. Stung by its failed quest to keep the winning run established by Pep Guardiola alive, Barcelona replaced coach Gerardo Martino with former player Luis Enrique and brought in several more players as it looks past the exit of Carles Puyol and Victor Valdes

The league will also hope to build on an entertaining finale last season, which saw Atletico Madrid clinch the title in a winner-take-all showdown at Barcelona, and its dominance of European competitions when Real Madrid beat Atletico in the all-Spanish Champions League final. E-types will be built to the exact specification of the original cars, allowing them to be used in historic racing events.

Second hand car sells for £22.84 million Next time you change your car and have a grumble at the price for the additional extras, spare a thought for the anonymous bidder who just paid the best part of £23 million (roughly 28.7 million euros) for a 52-yearold Ferrari 250 GTO Berlinetta at auctioneer Bonhams’ sale in Carmel, California. Regarded as one of the greatest Ferrari´s and one of only 39, the sale was watched by a huge crowd who broke into spontaneous applause as the auctioneer’s hammer came down on the most expensive car sale ever. The GTO was the 19th of the 39 driven off the assembly line in 1962 and had been owned by a family of motor racing enthusiasts since 1965.

absolutely delighted with today’s results.”

Jaguar reveals £1m Lightweight E-type Jaguar has unveiled the first of its reborn Lightweight E-types at the Pebble Beach concours event in California. Six units of the car will go on sale for an estimated £1 million apiece. The new examples complete the ‘Special GT E-type’ project that was started in 1963. Just 12 of the planned 18-car original run were built. The remaining six chassis numbers are set to appear on the newly created examples. Designed for racing, the Lightweight

powered the D-type to Le Mans victory in 1957. Crucial to the E-type’s design is its lightweight aluminium bodyshell, which saves 114kg over the standard E-type. Jaguar engineers have decided to eschew modern construction methods, as used on the aluminium-bodied F-type and XJ, in favour of the original techniques. Inner and outer surfaces of the car were digitally scanned, with most body panels then being reproduced at Jaguar’s Whitley engineering centre. With the bodywork complete, the cars will be mated to the engine’s subframe before being transferred to the company’s Browns Lane site to be completed.

The car was involved in a fatal accident in October 1962 when a tyre blowout at 100 mph caused the Ferrari to flip at the LinasMontlhéry autodrome, France killing driver, former Olympic ski champion Henri Oreiller. Ferrari repaired the car and new owners, the Violati family continued to race it from 1965. Bonhams’ chairman Robert Brooks said: “It’s been a genuine privilege to represent this outstanding car and we are

Property, Financial and Legal + + + + + PRESS RELEASE FROM EXPAT PENSIONS + +++ BUDGET PENSION MEASURES START TO PAN OUT........ The Chancellor’s Budget announcements on pensions in March caused not only confusion among those in retirement or nearing retirement age, They also caused a sharp intake of breath across the whole financial services industry!! Suddenly, what seemed a fairly settled landscape was in turmoil - financial advisers are starting to draw conclusions on what we can expect in the run up to the next Election and the Budget in March 2015. Don’t imagine that George Osborne’s budget proposals were driven by a preelection desire to put more money, or the prospect of more money, into your pockets. That may be an end result, but consider these factors as the more likely driving force. The national deficit, an ageing population and slow economic recovery

Q:There was once a recluse who never left his home. The only time anyone ever visited him was when his food and supplies were delivered, but they never came inside. Then, one storm winter night when an icy gale was blowing, he had a nervous breakdown. He went upstairs, turned off all the lights and went to bed. Next morning, he had caused the deaths of several hundred people. How? Q: Acting on an anonymous phone call, the police raid a house to arrest a suspected murderer. They don’t know what he looks like but they know his name is John and that he is inside the house. The police bust in on a carpenter, a lorry driver, a mechanic and a fireman all playing poker. Without hesitation or communication of any kind, they immediately arrest the fireman. How do they know they’ve got their man? Q: A man walks into a bar and asks for a drink of water. The bartender gives the man a drink of water, but the man says the water is no good. The bartender thinks for a minute, pulls out a gun and points it at him. The man says, “Thank you,” and walks out.

After the sad news last month of Robin Williams death here are some of his Stand Up Jokes

In England, if you commit a crime, the police don’t have a gun and you don’t have a gun. If you commit a crime, the police will say Stop, or I’ll say stop again. Cocaine is God’s way of saying you’re making too much money.

Instead of “the John,” I call my toilet “the Jim.” That way it sounds better when I say I go to the Jim first thing every morning.

No Matter what people tell you, words and ideas can change the world.

I met a one-legged woman outside of a club the other day. She was a bouncer.

Comedy is acting out optimism.

There was this guy at a bar, just looking at his drink. He stays like that for a half hour. Then a big trouble making truck driver steps next to him, takes the drink from the guy, & just drinks it all down. The poor man starts crying. The truck driver says, “Come on man, I was just joking. Here, I’ll buy you another drink. I just can’t stand to see a man cry.” “No, it’s not that,” the man replies, wiping his tears, “This day is the worst of my life. First, I oversleep & I go in late to my office. My outraged boss fires me. When I leave the building to go to my car, I find out it was stolen. The police say they can do nothing. I get a cab to go home, & when I get out, I remember I left my wallet. The cab driver just drives away. I go inside my house where I find my wife in bed with the gardener. I leave my home, come to this bar, & just when I was thinking about putting an end to my life, you show up & drink my poison.”

Spring is natures way of saying ...”Lets Party”. Ahhh Yes, divorce from the Latin word meaning to rip out a man’s genitals through his wallet. If it’s the Psychic Network why do they need a phone number? If Women ran the world we wouldn’t have wars, just intense negotiations every 28 days. My God. We’ve had cloning in the South for years. It’s called cousins. “We had gay burglars the other night; they broke in and rearranged the furniture.” Why do they call it Rush Hour when nothing moves? God gave men both a penis and a brain, but unfortunately not enough blood supply to run both at the same time. Never pick a fight with an ugly person, they’ve got nothing to lose. Politics: Poli, a Latin word meaning many; and tics meaning, bloodsucking creatures.

Last month’s Suduko answers

asked me what was the best thing for sunburn and I told him, “Sit in the sun for eight hours.”

You’ll notice that Bush never speaks when Cheney is drinking water. You could talk about same-sex marriage, but people who have been married (say) ‘It’s the same sex all the time. Cricket is basically baseball on valium Q: How do astronomers organize a party? A: They planet. Three old timers at the retirement home were complaining about growing old. The first one says, “I wake up at 7:00 AM and try for a half hour to take a poop.” The second one says, “Oh yeah? I spend an hour trying to pee.” The third one says, “I take a nice poop at 7:00 AM and about 7:30 AM take a nice pee.” The other two guys look at him and ask, “What are you complaining about?” The third man explains, “I don’t wake up till 8:30 AM.” I think I killed my best friend. He

Answers to last month’s Riddles A: A temper. A: An automobile. A: He’s a barber. A: The word ‘and.’ A: He was walking. A: 9. Two twins are 2 people, three triplets are 3 people, and four quadruplets are 4 people. 2 + 3 + 4 = 9.
