Rode To Nowhere - Making Circles In The Triad

ost weekends there are More events

listed in the Cruisin’ Calendar than I can get to. They all look like a good time, but there is so much territory in the Carolinas and just not enough time! This particular weekend, there were three such events that were pretty close together, so I figured I’d give ‘em a go.

I started early and headed out to Riding High Harley-Davidson in High Point, NC. They have a free Saturday morning ride most weekends. They just pick a destination, set a time and ride. Kinda refreshing, eh? This Saturday they were heading down to Lexington. Twenty or so riders gathered and set off around 11am just in time for me to make it to my next stop in Winston-Salem. Staging at the Marketplace Mall, Wayne and Vandee Pinnix were putting on their 4th Annual Biker Trash Nation Motorcycle Awareness Ride. They always gather a big group for this free ride that is aimed at making a lot of noise and letting the cagers

know that the weather is turning warmer and there will be a lot more motorcycles on the road. I got a little hung up on my way over there but made it just in time to shoot some photos of the group leaving. Good news was that their first stop was Smokin’ Harley-Davidson in Winston-Salem and that is where I was heading next, so I knew I would catch up with ‘em!

Smokin’ had a parking lot swap meet going on, and I’m a sucker for swap meets, so I was gonna check it out. When I got to Smokin’ the parking lot was packed. They had vendors lined up under the overhang of the dealership with new and old parts and other odds and ends. I did a little shoppin’ and a lot of hangin out with my friends. When the crowd died down a little it was time to wander up the hill from Smokin’ H-D to Xtreme Wings N Things to grab a bite to eat. Xtreme was just gearing up for a big night with live music by Matt Dylan and the Honky Tonk Outlaws. I grabbed a bar stool and threw down some wings, and man, they really hit the spot.

The day was getting on, but I had one more stop in mind. I rode by the house and picked up Maggie and headed to Kernersville to Ink Lab Tattoo. Both of us were overdue for some Ink and the guys at Ink Lab really know how to lay it down. Ink Lab Tattoo is a cool house studio, with plenty of flash and talented artists to hook you up. Couple hours later, we had some new ink, had a bunch of laughs and it was time to head home. These are the days we work for all week long and when the weekend hits, it’s time to put some miles on and get out in the sunshine for a little bit. Huge thanks to Riding’ High Harley-Davidson, BTN, Smokin’ Harley-Davidson, Xtreme Wings N Things and Ink Lab Tattoo for the hospitality. Now we just gotta get through another couple days and we will get out there and do it again. Pick some destinations outta the Cruisin’ Calendar or any of the biker friendly businesses in The Carolinas’ Full Throttle Magazine and make a day of it. You can ride to nowhere, too. We will see ya out there!
