theAGENDA TIFFANY & CO. LAUNCHES ELSA PERETTI CARVED STONE BONE CUFF
12
JAEGER-LECOULTRE REINFORCES THE ALLIANCE OF FINE WATCHMAKING AND HIGH JEWELLERY WITH TWO NEW 101 MODELS
Following the success of the coloured Elsa Peretti bone cuffs, Tiffany & Co. is now releasing a new bone cuff in carved stone. The carved stone style is a nod to the sublime beauty that Peretti finds in nature, featuring 18k yellow gold with green jade. Elsa’s trailblazing craftsmanship is exemplified in the way that the Bone cuff seamlessly contours to the wrist. The Bone cuff holds an empowering effect when worn, and is a symbol of strength and grace. Peretti’s aesthetic embodies the modern independent woman and her unique style sensibility. Launching this fall, the timeless design is created to celebrate the icon’s 50th anniversary. “To translate ideas is magic. It takes so long to make a curve, to make sure the curve is done well. What most delights me are the smooth contours the objects gradually acquire as they are worn through everyday use,” says Elsa Peretti.

Introducing two new High Jewellery watches for 2020, Jaeger-LeCoultre places its Calibre 101 in the spotlight again. The two entirely original designs reaffirm the unique alliance between high jewellery and fine watchmaking made possible by this exceptional mechanism. Originally conceived and developed for jewellery watches and introduced in 1929 by La Grande Maison, Calibre 101 revolutionised feminine watchmaking – its minuscule size and baguette shape offering new realms of aesthetic freedom to designers. Developed half a century before the advent of computer-aided design and production technology, Calibre 101 is a remarkable feat of miniaturisation. At 14mm long, less than 5mm wide and weighing barely one gram, the tiny, hand-wound calibre remains the smallest mechanical movement in the world. It is also one of the

world’s oldest movements that continues to be in production. For the two new diamond-set timepieces, Jaeger-LeCoultre’s in-house artistic team has taken a jewellery-led approach – first, designing the forms of the bracelets and the style of gemsetting, then integrating the cases and movements into the designs. Whereas designing a watch normally takes the opposite approach, beginning with the case and then creating bracelets or straps to complement it. Both bracelets adhere faithfully to the classical high jewellery codes and are composed of pink gold set with diamonds – using only stones classified IF to VVS. However, the designs are utterly different in both form and character, emphasising the creative freedom allowed by the diminutive Calibre 101.

16
In a time when our communities have never been more important, Coach focuses on the value and meaning of family with the launch of “Coach Family,” a global advertising campaign for the house’s Fall 2020 collection. The campaign celebrates stories of togetherness, relationships that endure, and the power of modern families—those we are born into and those we choose over time. The campaign features established Coach faces Jennifer Lopez and Michael B. Jordan and Coach ambassadors Kiko Mizuhara and Jeremy Lin, as well as individuals the cast hold close and consider family. Released as a series of unfiltered stills and films inspired by home videos, the campaign translates the house’s enduring spirit of optimism, inclusivity, and its mission to inspire audiences to be true to themselves. Over the course of the season, more portraits will be revealed, including Coach’s new female Chinese ambassador along with others, including
roommates Julia Fox and Richie Shazam to ballroom emcee, writer and producer Jack Mizrahi and his House of Gorgeous to photography collective Street Dreams Magazine, among others—with each family showcasing the bonds that endure. “At this moment, it feels important to re-examine our values,” said Coach Creative Director Stuart Vevers. “To me, fashion, at its best, has always been about community, creativity and building lasting relationships. I am proud to share stories with our Coach Family about the people that matter most in their lives—relationships that are authentic and timeless.” To launch the campaign, a series of posts asks the community to share their thoughts on family and what it means to them, exposing impactful reflections on relationships that endure, and values that extend across generations.

The campaign reveals the modern “Coach Families,” including Jennifer Lopez’s mother, Guadelupe Lopez, and children Emme and Max Muñiz. Jordan is photographed with close friends and chosen family, including Chad Easterling, Leo Volcy, Jove Edmond, Sterling Brim, René Spellman, Vince Bryant, Bryce Sheldon, and Corey Calliet. Kiko Mizuhara appears alongside her sister, Yuka Mizuhara, and her cats Chiccho and Bambi.
“Togetherness and family are really important right now,” said Jordan. “For me, my family and friends are my support system. They’re what keep me going and keep me motivated to work hard, lead by example and be the best version of myself. I was thrilled to work with Coach on this campaign focused on family and relationships—because they are the things that really matter.”
“Coach has given me an opportunity to reflect on three generations of love and appreciate the blessings that I have,” said Lopez. “In a year like this year, where there is so much chaos, so much change and uncertainty just happening all around us, family is all about having a

dunhill introduces THE LOCK BAG for AW'20
24
First seen on the Autumn Winter 2020 runway in Paris, dunhill introduces the Lock Bag – a new house icon celebrating the old guard meeting the avant-garde. An interplay of House heritage and contemporary elegance, this timeless piece takes inspiration from the classic attachÊ case; a symbol of British executive style. Inherently dunhill in its DNA, a solid frame maintains the structured shape, lined with padded nylon to protect the contents inside. Produced in smooth and luxurious box calf leather, this durable material ages well over time allowing each bag to develop its own individual patina and character. Complementing the AW20 collection in a choice of black, ink or oxblood. Inspired by the textures and finishes of the iconic dunhill Rollagas lighters, as well as 1970s archive packaging, two unique metallic styles are also available in AD brass and AD silver; a collision of tradition and subversion. Produced in limited numbers and manually assembled from four laser cut panels, these exclusive metal bags showcase the signature barley and dunhill longtail logo patterns, recontextualising these motifs for a modern audience. Each style features a polished brass lock drawn from the archive; reimagined with the founding year of the House and engraved longtail logo. The perfect size to carry the largest iPhone alongside your other daily essentials, a removable shoulder strap adds flexibility as either a cross-body or pochette; utility transformed into elegance. Part of the wider Lock Collection, alternative styles include the messenger bag and attachÊ case. www.theciin.com

TIFFANY & CO. CEMENTS ITS LEADERSHIP IN DIAMOND TRACEABILITY
50
This October, Tiffany & Co. will take an unprecedented step in diamond traceability by sharing the full craftsmanship journey of its newly sourced, individually registered diamonds. Disclosing the country where each stone is crafted and set in jewelry marks an industry first. This follows the 2019 announcement that Tiffany would become the first global luxury jeweler to provide the provenance (region or countries of origin) of its individually registered diamonds. Tiffany & Co.’s Chief Sustainability Officer, Anisa Kamadoli Costa, says: “Today we advance our commitment to diamond traceability one step further, our customers deserve to know that a Tiffany diamond was sourced with the highest standards, not only in quality but also in social and environmental responsibility. We believe that diamond traceability is the best means to ensure both.” By taking transparency to a new level and sharing the full craftsmanship journey of its diamonds, Tiffany reinforces the brand’s commitment to ensuring that every step in the journey of its products contributes to the well-being of people and the planet.

BOSS x AJBXNG FW2020 capsule collection
66
Presented in an elevated shade of midnight with highlights of gold, the BOSS x AJBXNG capsule collection presents ten pieces in a seamless combination of the brand’s signature elegance and Joshua’s desire to include “the color that represents a win.” T-shirts, sweatshirts, jersey pants, knits, and a hooded jacket make up the capsule, each featuring a curved interpretation of the iconic BOSS logo in gold, either as a signature detail, or in oversized form across the chest or upper back. The T-shirts and sweatshirts are offered in an easy, relaxed fit, while the knitwear pieces and jersey
pants are cut closer to the body to create a streamlined silhouette. Every piece includes a woven label featuring motivational words from the boxer: “One more hour, one more day. Never let success get to your head, or failure to your heart.” Joshua also repeats these quotes in a campaign film showing the story behind the collection, shot in London earlier this year. “The subtlety is what I like about BOSS,” Joshua says. “The navy and the gold, I think it’s a great combination. It’s deep, it’s rich, and the navy gives it an elegant feel.”

GUCCI FALL WINTER 2020 EYEWEAR COLLECTION
82
A tribute to self-expression and creative elegance, the new Gucci eyewear collection is created with a mix of bold volumes, recognizable House motifs and colored accents that convey individuality. Pre-Fall glossy acetate frames are shaped with geometric contours, contrasting hues and distinct Gucci embellishments, including ornamental rivets, Interlocking G and Double G. Vintage allure from the ‘50s to the ‘80s are combined with the contemporary in fashion show styles. Thick frames are paired with tinted lenses, engraved motifs and decorations. Design details from Gucci accessories are reinterpreted on some styles, including the matelassé chevron quilted leather pattern of the Marmont handbags and Web stripe in enamel finishes on lightweight metal. Other retro-inspired models reveal the classic with the unexpected: Gucci-logoed metal plaque and colored nose pads. www.theciin.com
Givenchy Parfums Adds to Linterdit Universe THE THRILL OF ADDICTION
L’Interdit, created in 1957 by Hubert de Givenchy, was the Maison’s first bold fragrance, the Eau de Parfum launched in 2019 embodying a whole new liberating thrill. Like a talisman standing for freedom, this powerful and memorable fragrance pushes us to break the rules. In 2019, the vibrant and airy Eau de Toilette highlights the unapologetic dark side of every woman, exhilarated by an experience with the forbidden. Today, the new Eau de Parfum Intense takes the L’Interdit thrill to new heights. Deeper and darker than ever before, this new fragrance intensifies transgression and turns it into a compelling obsession. L’Interdit is no longer an invitation, but an addiction.
THE INTENSITY OF MAGNETIC BOTTLE
Cloaked in black with an enigmatic lacquered interior, the Eau de Parfum Intense bottle embodies mystery. This twist on the iconic silhouette of the franchise’s fragrances is purely hypnotic and tempts us into transgression. The bottle’s timeless, sensual and enchanting lines are highlighted by a Couture ribbon which is wrapped around the neck and sealed by the Maison’s signature silver 4G logo. The box features a sleek and straightforward design, enveloped in deep black and illuminated by the eye-catching silver L’Interdit logo. The box’s interior takes the contrast further, revealing an extremely feminine shade of scarlet red bearing Monsieur de Givenchy’s signature.
83
THE MYSTERIOUS, OPULENT FRAGRANCE
Master perfumers Dominique Ropion, Anne Flipo and Fanny Bal together have created the Eau de Parfum Intense as a tribute to the colour black, bringing a new mysterious and sensual touch to the L’Interdit franchise. The white bouquet exults, more hypnotic and textured than before. The original orange blossom welcomes a more transgressive, furiously addictive tuberose which intensifies a bewitching accord. The woody base turns oriental with smoky, underground notes from vetiver and patchouli, and reveals more voluptuous notes through a suave and intense vanilla bean, prominently flourishing in the fragrance. A cold-extraction process used on Madagascar vanilla beans ensures an exceptionally high-quality result. The leather and amber facets of this black gold hypnotise, captivating the senses. Its magnetism brings the fragrance to life, blending together with the unexpected salty notes of toasted black sesame absolute. The depth and opulence of the Eau de Parfum Intense make for an oriental, floral and woody fragrance, which is ultra-sophisticated and undeniably Couture.
A CONFIDENT AND CAPTIVATING MUSE
Just like the fragrance which seems to be held back by nothing, American actress Rooney Mara also appears increasingly more intense and captivating. She is hypnotic with her bold lips and piercing stare as she graces the new campaign shot by fashion photographer David Sims. She is dressed in a Givenchy Haute Couture gown with black lace, in contrast with the underground world of the subway. She is confident and fearless with a hint of defiance in her stare. A touch of temerity invites us to join her. Where? Where the dark shines bright, on the other side of L’Interdit. September, 2020

MANGO launches Idenim: A fresh & sustainable take on the staple Since its creation, denim has established itself as the most democratic fabric, and MANGO launches its new collection featuring icons that will succeed for their versatility.
90
Idenim is the MANGO campaign that gives centre stage to the most popular fabric in the history of fashion, highlighting its versatility and the ease with which it reflects the unique personality of each person. Adopting MANGO’s commitment to sustainability, this AW20 season, the women’s denim collection is 100% sustainable. Lua Balua, visual artist, Emma Chadwick, dancer and choreographer, Emily Rosser, visual director and Indira Scott, model and humanitarian are the stars of this collection and each one reveals their style and their interpretation of denim through their identity, while including elements of their work in the photos. In the men’s line, the designer Brett Robinson and the model and fashion designer Alex J Ordóñez defend two different proposals in which denim becomes essential for their everyday wear. MANGO proposes staples which strengthen the personality and help declare a unique style. With this collection, denim is a means of expression through which each one can combine the timeless statement piece in a highly versatile way, creating a complete look or pairing them with other types of fabrics for a fun and fresh look.

The Epitome of Excess Pride, along with excess, are part of Roger Dubuis’ mindset, a duality that allows unfettered exploring of new territories and the ability to demonstrate the other side of its "personality": dramatic singularity. Indeed, powered by an obsessive quest for pleasure, freedom, and hedonism, all these characteristics are inherent to its very DNA. The result is a proud lineage of over the top and utterly contemporary timepieces in which the brand that dares to be different puts technique at the service of aesthetics. In its latest demonstration of all the above, Excalibur Superbia is a stunning contemporary epitome of extravagance guaranteed to send the senses of the most hardened hyper watch aficionado into overdrive.
Mad or possessed?
98
Roger Dubuis is thus unashamedly guilty of that most serious of the seven deadly sins: Pride, known in Latin as SUPERBIA. Strongly linked to vanity and risk-taking, SUPERBIA is also regarded as having an obsessive addiction to adrenaline, just like, in fact, Roger Dubuis itself. Driven by this, along with its firm belief in living larger than life, Roger Dubuis has created Excalibur Superbia, the ultimate totem for a tribe of people who trust that life is but a game that is for making the most of. The ultimate example of the Maison’s unshakable pride and excess, Excalibur Superbia is crafted in palladium-enriched white gold and set with exactly 600 precious white diamonds and blue sapphires. This offers a truly extravagant (and ideal) housing for Roger Dubuis iconic signature calibre: a brand-new DOUBLE FLYING TOURBILLON movement, the RD108SQ, inspired by its legendary version launched in 2005, the first double-regulator calibre connected with a differential, built up in volume and adorned with a diamond-set star. For the RD108SQ, paying tribute to Roger Dubuis’ status as a forerunner in the field of this extreme complication mastered by few other watchmakers, in the RD108SQ, the double flying tourbillon is transformed into the ultimate iconic signature. Aptly demonstrated by multiple tricks embodied in this latest iteration of off-the-radar hyper horology, the devil, as Roger Dubuis knows all too well, is in the details. In the Excalibur Superbia, Roger Dubuis once again reinvents the game like no one ever has before. Sending it firmly into the hallowed halls of World Premieres, the excessiveness of the Excalibur Superbia comes neither from its alloy nor its number of stones. What makes it truly bold is that every stone set on the flange, the bezel, the case and the crown is tetrahedron shaped and assembled with an invisible setting on curved surfaces. The hardest way to set a stone, an invisible setting becomes nearly impossible when required on a curved surface.
Where no man dares to tread Not only has no jeweller or watchmaker ever dared to set a piece in this way, certainly no one has ever been crazy or ambitious enough to do it on a masculine watch. Until now. In this masterpiece in which the complexity of the pattern surpasses any norm known to mankind, master craftsmen at the Maison’s Geneva Manufacture have thus set about creating a backbone structure to encapsulate each stone from the back, complying with the brand’s total determination to avoid any material between the stones themselves. To complicate matters further, each and every glittering stone in the Excalibur Superbia is a tetrahedron, a shape requiring boundless cutting skill as its extreme thinness greatly increases the risk of breaking.
www.theciin.com
The concept of impossible is nothing if not meaningless at Roger Dubuis where the next challenge is simply round the corner, so not only did every stone have to be tetrahedronshaped, the pattern was designed so that all 238 stones featured in the case of the Excalibur Superbia has a different shape and is thus singular. Adding insult to injury, the design also demanded that the long-suffering craftsmen of the Manufacture would at times have to deal with the points of six or seven stones meeting simultaneously in the same spot. The test of Roger Dubuis setters’ skill does not stop here, however. The final sting in the tail of the Excalibur Superbia comes with the grooving – the last step required to complete the invisible setting with the previously perfectly triangulated stones. This is so hard to do on a tetrahedron stone that it took each gemsetter an average of 30 minutes to do a single groove, corresponding to 900 hours for this operation alone on all three sides of the 600 diamonds, plus 420 hours to set the case and bezel – and that’s without even counting the stone-cutting! The entire process takes about three times longer than the same case set with baguette-cut stones. And just for good measure, reaching the very pinnacle of complexity Roger Dubuisstyle, in the Excalibur Superbia, this already painstaking, groundbreaking process has been entirely achieved on a curved surface. Simple, straight and utterly frank , the lines of this exceptional piece of artistry are strongly reminiscent of the spatial art forms favoured by interior design artist KAZ SHIRANE with whom the brand that dares to be different shares a number of characteristics – not least from a visual perspective. “I create interactive spaces that focuses on visitors. Whenever the space user enters a room filled with mirrors, there will be interaction – a reflection in mirrors - and the user can become the co-creator of this space. This mirrored space is designed to serve as a receiver and amplifier of the user’s will. The space literally reflects the mind of the visitor, enabling him/her to become an artist. The only rule imposed on visitors in my installation is to enjoy the space as freely as they want. “ Roger Dubuis and I share the same vision: we create incredible pieces that make people feel they are the protagonists. For me, the Roger Dubuis Superbia watch is like a time machine that can take us to an extraordinary world in an instant. I always want to create such space in my artworks. The elaborate craftsmanship is, of course, absolutely wonderful. But beyond that, what struck me the most is that it is a very artistic piece: its distinctive design catches the light so beautifully and can be noticed even from afar. I was honoured that my work inspired the design of their new watch. It proves that art has many facets and can open up to new possibilities. I admire Roger Dubuis as it pours its heart into making its products; the importance it attaches to quality as well as its attention to details are visible in every aspect. I am looking forward to exploring this collaboration further. My role will be to express the Roger Dubuis philosophy and enable customers to experience its one-of-a-kind world through my art” Memento mori A hyper watch for a hyper tribe, the Excalibur Superbia is the demonstration of a shared mindset focused on living life to the fullest extent and with the greatest intensity. In the grand tradition of memento mori pocket watches, and as a reminder that this time on earth is short and must be filled with the unfettered pleasure, madness and freedom, the movement of the Excalibur Superbia is secretly inscribed with the words Memento mori, a detail that will henceforth feature on each Hyperwatch created by the Maison. Because to remember you must die is to remember you must live – and is unquestionably the most exciting way to experience hyper horology. September, 2020

Its most striking asset lies in the all-gold theme running from case to bracelet and stylishly enhanced by the iconic Overseas blue. Sleek and functional style The visual journey begins on the dial, whose intense blue colour accentuates the sporty character of the watch. Its pure surface reveals a world of details, hovering between vibrant and shimmering light effects. This subtle translucent blue-lacquered composition is punctuated by gold hour-markers and hands coated in white luminescent material. A date appearing discreetly at 3 o'clock completes the picture. This elegant and functional style makes a perfect match with the pink gold of the 41 mm case, flowing into a bracelet featuring likewise pink gold links inspired by the Maltese cross.

Dubai-based model and humanitarian, Jessica Kahawaty has joined forces with her mother, Rita to create a brand new food delivery concept. Launching today, Mama Rita will be delivering healthy and delicious home-cooked meals across the city, made with love. At the very heart of the concept stands Mama Rita Kahawaty herself. Rita took to cooking naturally and was soon adding her own touches to her mother’s signature dishes. Recognising this gift, Jessica wanted the world to enjoy the flavours of her home. Such is their love for home cooking, the mother-daughter duo wanted to share this passion, and thus Mama Rita was born. Premium in quality, democratic in pricing, the Mama Rita menu has been carefully curated by Jessica and Rita to bring all three generations of heartwarming home cooking to the public, beautifully fusing Middle Eastern, Mediterranean and International cuisine. CARTIER FALL/WINTER 2020 EYEWEAR COLLECTION
138
Cartier’s savoir-faire comes to life in the new Fall/Winter 2020 Eyewear collection with a balance of materials and heritageinspired details that fuse timeless elegance and contemporary design. Geometric shapes and signed details distinguish the Santos de Cartier styles evoking the iconic watch created in 1904 for aviator Alberto Santos Dumont. The navigator and pilot designs exude a strong masculine aesthetic that is bold and instantly recognizable. Visible screws punctuate the luminous contours to recall airplane rivets, while the frames’ sharp profiles echo the emblematic cut of the Santos watchcase. Inspired by the powerful magnetism of the panther, the new Panthère de Cartier unisex sunglasses play with the distinctive twist of the feline head enriched with hand-lacquered eyes. The Maison’s passion for high refinement is expressed by the Trinity de Cartier frames inspired by the namesake ring and its signature interlaced design. A luminous mix of materials and precious finishes elevates the elegant proportions of the sunglass and optical styles, which bear a front knot detail and a miniature ring as a symbol of friendship, love and fidelity. The collection also includes a new Première de Cartier feminine optical frame with metal profiles featuring the C de Cartier detail, the Godron motif and a Cartier-logoed plaque on the temple tips. www.theciin.com
Fabergé Celebrates September’s Birthstone: Sapphire
139
Sapphires traditionally symbolises nobility, truth, and faithfulness - the word originates from the Greek word sappheiros. For centuries, these precious gemstones have adorned royalty and their extraordinary colours are the standard against which other gems—from topaz to tanzanite—are measured. September’s birthstone has featured in Fabergé’s collections for over a century. Today, Fabergé continues to champion ‘A Life in Colour’ with its contemporary jewellery creations featuring a kaleidoscope of coloured sapphires. Most recently, Fabergé has added pink and yellow hues to their sapphire offering. Yellow sapphires are exceptionally rare in very fine intense colours, and even lighter soft yellow tones in smaller sizes are not readily available. Many cultures and people believe pink sapphires hold special powers, that they symbolise trust, loyalty and sincerity - they’re also believed to carry good fortune and intense love.

The Indian Himalayas, a steep mountain landscape through which the sacred Ganges River meanders, is a nature that supersedes all human construction. For the development of the hotel complex Taj Rishikesh, it was this modesty in face of the grandiosity of the place that guided our approach. The project was developed following a trip to the Indian Himalayas, where we studied the traditional vernacular architecture developed over millennia. This architecture evolved in response to the rugged mountain topography and the locally available materials, and this established the foundation of the project.
157
September, 2020
158
The resort, located 250 km north-east of New Delhi, incorporates the main hotel block and a series of villas on a vast and steep site overlooking the Ganges River. The site layout is inspired by traditional Himalayan villages, anchored around a Darbargadh, the traditional residence of local rajas or lords. The Darbargadhs are used as a combination fortress-palacetemple, and offer at their heart a walled courtyard that ensures the protection of the villagers in times of war, and serves as a gathering place for community life in harmonious times. Created in the image of a traditional Darbargadh, the main block of the hotel overlooks the valley and provides a central location for gathering all the main services of the resort: the reception, restaurant, bar, boutique, library, and more. The villas, as in a traditional Himalayan village, are laid out as a series of pavilions built on a succession of stepped terraces kept in place by massive stone retaining walls. This stratification of the site in successive levels offers each villa a private view of the mountain panorama and the majority with framed views of the Ganges River. The architecture of the project takes advantage of the materials found locally: river stones for the retaining walls, slate for the roofs and flooring, and large wooden frames for the joinery. Traditional Himalayan construction techniques intermix stone walls with vast cantilevered cedar beams. This traditional building style called Kath-Kuni has been reinterpreted here with modern materials, with steel replacing the cedar beams that are now banned from exploitation in the Himalayas. A long sinuous central pathway unites the property, winding through the different plateaus and leading to the various buildings of the resort complex. From the national highway at the top of the site, this long ribbon gently unfolds, connecting the main hotel block on the top plateau to the villas on the intermediate terraces. The path then travels further down to the yoga and spa pavilions at a lower plateau, only to end its journey at the swimming pool and restaurants that directly overlook the beach on the banks of the Ganges. This serpentine line of light-colored gravel winds elegantly through the site, just as the Ganges meanders through the Indian Himalayas. www.theciin.com

MC20, A DYNAMIC SCULPTURE, HERALDING MASERATI’S ENTRANCE INTO THE NEW ERA
160
www.theciin.com
How do you become what you already are? MC20 stands for Maserati Corse 2020 and marks the Brand’s entrance into a new era, the rediscovery of its original sporty DNA, its dynamic roots and essential audacity. Maserati long known for its comfort and elegance on the road, now strikes back with ferocity on the track: a car that runs but doesn’t sweat. MC20 represents the pure form of speed, with Maserati panache: a work of sculptural engineering seemingly hewn, piece by piece, from a masterfully chiselled block of raw carbon, showing the way to the Brand’s aesthetic future. Created through a process of elimination, there are no frills and no excess: just energy. MC20 is an archetype, carved for speed, so pure one seems to hear the hallmark Maserati sound even with the engine off.
161
September, September,2020 2020
162
I
t all began back in 1926 with the legendary Tipo 26, the first race car displaying Maserati’s Trident logo. In the same way, MC20, created in 2020, will be the first car of a new Era. A design that expresses pure performance and matches it in elegance. A design that transcends the confines of mere appearance giving way to this dynamic creature. We have moved beyond sartorial costumes and coverings, and can see only raw beauty. The form of MC20, which will also be available in convertible and electric versions, is composed of a chorus of elements singing in mechanical perfection. The racing beauty of 2020. Sharp edges generate friction, a slowing action, while the sublime sinuosity of the monocoque carbon-fibre frame allows the air to flow freely across it. Side vents are present but not visible. Even the Trident, symbol of the Brand, has been reduced to its essential, archetypal truth. Remaining a perennial source of graphic inspiration: the perfect number three, with a central element and two lateral ones, also returns to adorn the rear window and wheels. The butterfly doors open dramatically, wings that unfurl upward to facilitate getting in and out for drivers and passengers, despite the low-slung attitude, revealing an eagerness to spring into action. Kerb-proof wings. The lower part of MC20, always dark, in exposed carbon fibre or black paint, is the uncontested realm of engineering. Here the process of elimination has even been applied to the question of colour: what remains is pure technology. However, in the spirit of contrast and harmony, colour comes back to capture the spirit of movement: in the new Bianco
Audace, MC20 shimmers with iridescent blue undertones when exposed to the light. The Blu Infinito tone gleams with a ceramic brilliance that only sunlight can capture. And the Grigio Mistero hue recalls the mesmerizing beauty molten metal. Then again, there are six different options that include Rosso Vincente, Giallo Genio and Nero Enigma, that showcase the distinctive features of speed, infusing them with life. Even the interiors, comfortable, luminous and luxurious, in keeping with the Brand’s image, exude a sense of dynamism. From the laser-generated textural effects to the seats in Alcantara leather, as colours appear in all their kaleidoscopic glory in one place, only to shade toward black in another. The infotainment system features a high-resolution screen similar to a tablet, providing a total user experience. The audio system is the result of a 100% Italian collaborative effort involving the craft-based Sonus faber, renowned for its meticulously engineered acoustic speakers. The heart of MC20 is a V6 twin turbo petrol engine, entirely produced at the Modena plant, the first in over twenty years and another important Maserati patent. Located at the rear of the vehicle, in keeping with traditional racing configurations, this unique engine features Formula 1 technology, propelling the Brand toward the exciting world of racing. This historical piece of engineering is called Nettuno and compresses all the energy of 630 CV into 3000 cc of displacement. A magnificent god of the sea, brandishing a trident and out to conquer new lands, will bring that sweet Maserati sound to its maximum expression on both the open road and racing circuits. www.theciin.com

Located in a beautiful secluded bay of Bodrum, the Amanruya is inspired by the local Turquish architecture to form a small village made of contemporary stoned cottages. Surrounded by old olive groves nestled on hills, and by a green forest, with the Aegean Sea in the background, the resort enjoys an enchanting setting. Accommodation is made up of 36 Pavillions, and each one is guaranteed to be as private as the next. They all have grey-green marble private pools set within large gardens, all with huge day beds and sun beds. Inside, the cottages are equally as stunning, and just as spacious. All have four poster beds, sofas, a dining table and separate traditional Turkish mangal fireplace, and there is an overall sense of calm with muted tones and airy spaces - an element of Turkish opulence is created by traditional rugs and throws from Istanbul.

Turkey’s wide variety of microclimates results in an array of fresh seasonal produce year-round. Amanruya’s multiple dining venues celebrate this abundance, with ingredients sourced from local farmers and fishermen as a matter of pride. The home-style Mediterranean menu features Amanruya’s home-baked bread, while informal meze platters make for wonderful in-suite dining or picnic options. There are three dining pavilions each focusing on a different part of the world. Try Thai, Indonesian, Western and Turkish food, and all in a different setting (all have sea views). The Beach Club is located on the hotel's pebbled beach, just a short walk down the winding hill. It is made up of small terraces with sun loungers, a jetty and an offshore swimming pontoon. Pedalos and small sailing boats are also available to hire - we highly recommend this for exploring the nearby coves. The Spa is an intimate sanctuary dedicated to holistic wellness, offering an extensive spa menu inspired by traditional Turkish wellness practices. Amanruya’s signature massage rebalances body and mind while promoting a deep sense of relaxation. Essential oils are chosen based on personal needs, ranging from harmonious cardamom to rejuvenating bergamot. The treatment combines elements of Swedish massage with reflexology and energy work. The Fitness Studio is equipped with cardio and resistance training equipment, and personal trainers are available to guide workouts. Private yoga sessions can be arranged in the Yoga Studio or outdoors overlooking the sea. Tennis equipment is available and playing partners and lessons can be arranged. www.theciin.com

What To Do... Saga Pottery
Fukuoka Canal City
There is no doubt in the Japanese minds that Saga prefecture is where ceramic pottery began to be produced. The three villages of Arita, Imari and Karatsu are the most famous for learning about the origin of pottery, with all the smaller and larger museums on the art of ceramics both in Saga City and in these villages, and also for buying original pieces. All cities show the distinctive chimneys of the many kilns used to cook the wares.
Canal City is a modern mall and shopping complex that takes the name from an artificial canal running through the complex. It is defined as a city within a city, just because one can find everything in there, from food to clothing, from entertainment to amusement, and there is even a hotel. Also, in the center of the canal there is a fountain and every hour (or maybe less) a water show with music is played, for the joy of all people small and big.
Kyushu National Museum
Kumamoto Castle
The Kyushu National Museum in Dazaifu is the fourth and the newest of all national museums in Japan and is also built in a way that it is protected for safety and disaster prevention. Also, a very modern and catchy tunnel connects the main shrine in Dazaifu with the museum. The exhibition rooms are spread over four levels, mixed with all sorts of modern facilities, such as full-access accommodations for disabled people (even for assistance dogs!), rest rooms, medical rooms, plus a cafe and museum shop.
The city of Kumamoto is full of interesting sights. One of those is the castle, which was built on a hill overlooking the city and was surrounded by thick and tall walls that made it more like a fortress. The castle, like the majority of all Japanese castles nowadays, had to be rebuilt due to fires and other disasters over the centuries, although a few turrets are still original. A visit inside is recommended, as some of the main palace rooms, opened for the occasion of the 400th anniversary, are of unique beauty. If not for the tour inside the castle, visiting the castle during cherry blossom season is a must, as about 800 trees dot the premises. www.theciin.com
