THE SOUND MAKER™ CELEBRATES A DISTINGUISHED MUSICAL LEGACY
JAEGER-LECOULTRE PRESENTS LANDMARK TIMEPIECES FROM ITS HERITAGE COLLECTION
15
For Jaeger-LeCoultre, chiming watches hold a special significance and over the past 150 years, they have had a major presence in the Maison’s portfolio of complicated timepieces. Since producing its first minute repeater in 1870, the Manufacture has developed more than 200 chiming watch calibres. It has mastered all forms of chiming mechanism, from relatively simple alarm calibres to the most complex of all – the grande sonnerie and Westminster chimes. The Manufacture’s constant quest to improve both timekeeping accuracy and sound quality has resulted in multiple patents and countless innovations and, until the mid-20th century, it supplied chiming movements to many of the most exalted names in Swiss watchmaking. FROM MUSIC BOXES TO POCKET WATCHES Before Antoine LeCoultre turned to watchmaking, he and his father invented a new type of ‘keyboard’ for mechanical music boxes. Cut from a single piece of metal and shaped like a comb (peigne in French), it improved the quality of the sound, and prevented the instrument from detuning. Variations of this device became standard for almost all music boxes. Jaeger-LeCoultre’s Heritage Collection features an early example from the 1820s, fitted with a LeCoultre ‘Peigne’ mechanism and set in a finely decorated tortoise-shell box. After it was established in 1833, the LeCoultre atelier quickly gained a reputation for both inventiveness and quality and, by the 1860s, was known for its complicated watch movements, incorporating calendars, chronographs and chiming mechanisms. Around 1880, a decade after developing its first minute repeater, the Manufacture
LeCoultre created Calibre 19/20 RMS, a Minute Repeater with Three Hammers, rather than the standard two hammers and gongs. Thanks to the third hammer, it creates a unique melody, with a distinctive three-note chime for the quarters. As the Maison broadened its expertise, watchmakers also incorporated automata into chiming watches. The best-loved of these were jacquemarts – human figures with articulated limbs, set on the watch dial. Animated by the watch movement to coincide with the striking of time, they provide a visual representation of the chime. The intricate dial of an early 1890s Jacquemart Pocket Watch by LeCoultre, features a pair of jacquemarts in a romantic scene, decorated with enamel and engraving. In 1895, Jaeger-LeCoultre invented and patented the silent strike-governor, also known as the silent regulator. This eliminated the background buzz characteristic of traditional regulators, thus producing a clearer chime. Different versions of that invention have since become an industry standard in chiming watches. Among the examples in the Heritage Collection is a 1914 pocket watch powered by Calibre 19 IMCCV, which unites a mono-pusher chronograph and a minute repeater. In the early 20th century, LeCoultre was one of the few Manufactures to master triple-complication watch movements. For the 1910 Minute Repeater Triple Complication, LeCoultre Calibre 19/20IMCSQ brought together a minute repeater, a chronograph and a perpetual calendar in a classical hunter-style case.

Tell us about your education.
My first education was in Tour Management and Tourism because I loved history and travelling. My second masters degree is in sociology. I love people and try to understand their minds.
What came deejaying?
first?
Modeling
As I have noticed you are travelling a lot?
Yes, a lot! It's style of life when you always need to move. Travelling new places and meeting new people.
or
Your coolest place where you worked?
First came modeling but for a short time only. I was in a relationship and my ex-boyfriend was too nervous about. I left modeling and started to search myself in other field and I found myself in music. After we broke up I started modeling once again.
Describe me your feelings when you play music?
Tell me please how you begin with music and deejaying?
I had passion for music since childhood and I even played piano. When I was 18 years old, I visited parties and I saw DJs. I wanted to try deejaying but felt shy and I was thinking It's not for me. After few years of searching myself I finally tried it and was very happy. It started as a hobby but after few months I got a good job as a DJ and I shifted completely to music.
What were some of the main challenges and goals when starting out as a DJ and how have they changed over time?
In the beginning I didn't imagine myself that I would play at music festivals and on big stages abroad on the best clubs and restaurants. My goal was very simple. I imagined myself as a cool DJ who plays techno at my favourite club in Kiev. Because I loved this kind of music and I was too young and emotional, I got in a fight with some guy, who was in good relationship with owner of that club and I got into problems of course. I couldn't even visit that place and I was crying long time and then my friend told me why don't you come to work in another country. Same day I got offer to work aboard in very fashionable places in Asia and in Qatar. I worked with famous stars on one stage as a INNA, TYGA, Jax Jones, David Vandetta, Nicola Fasano, Jeremiah, Artbat, Pete Oak, and Tom Boxer. I started to grow up in music and played new genres. I eventually started to explore myself and believe that a positive attitude towards failure opens the way to true happiness. Nowadays, I'm thankful to God for bringing me on a new level of my life with huge goals.
Being a female deejay, how it looks like? I think it's look sexy, isn't? I'm always in attention. People see me on stage, they expect not only beautiful sexy girl but also great music. It makes them high and happy. It's a creative job. I always have to create new impressive ideas and recording new DJ mixes, produce new tracks, searching for new music, be in trend, look stunning, care about my costume and body.
November, 2020
At X lounge, Wahm, Play Boy club, Decadance House, Boudoir, and music festivals. I love them.
Em. I completely give myself to this creative process. I see people, I feel them and the music and create mood for them as I feel it and imagine it. When I see them happy and feel high.
What style of music do you play?
I play many different genres: House music (deep house, tech house, progressive house ), Commercial music, R&B and reggaton, trance, and bollywood.
Yours favourite musicians and songs? Mostly It depends on mood. If today I want to hear commercial music, reggaton and R&B then It's Maluma, Bad Bunny, JLo, Madonna. From Tech house Solomun, Peggy Gou, Armen Miran. Psytrance - Belic Boom, and Astrix, Blastoyz.
Tell us about experience?
your
modelling
Beauty is main and bigger part of my soul. For me beauty is love and feelings. Modeling is one of the way where I can show it. I worked with a lot of designers in Qatar, India, and Ukraine. Fashion shows, Print shoots, Photoshoots, Exhibitions , Runways, and Movie.
Which is your favourite modelling project? One of my favourite projects happened last year in Doha. I was one of the faces who presented new plane by Qatar Airway Executive Jet and took part in international Fashion Day. We had runway inside the plane in clothes by haute couture and without shoes. I remember they put a big glass crown full of diamonds inside on my head. That was really unique crown and impressive show with fashion blogger from New York, Milan, Paris, and Tokyo. I was really impressed with that magical day!
We know that you are also an artist? How and when did the interest in art develop? Art is inside my blood. From childhood I liked painting. specially portraits. During school time, my friends would ask me to paint them and they paid for that and it was my first money earning opportunity.
19
What materials do you use?
I mainly used acrylic colors, pencils, and cosmetics sometimes.
How would you best describe your type of art?
I call it Therapy. It's awesome when you can put on paper your ideas or your mood. For me, it's kind of a journey into myself. When I make art, I'm completely immersed into it.
What message do you like to convey through your art?
A Message? Be brave to be yourself. Honest, feel love and share positivity.
What is your future goal ALESYA?
Create more and more in everything that I love, music, pictures, ideas of art photo-shooting. Maybe I will get into interior designing also.
Your motto in life?
20
whatever happens, will pass. Have a positive attitude towards failures. They open the ways to true happiness and happiness is the key to open the heart and love. Be honest, brave, and don't think about the past. Move towards the future to your victory. But don't forget about today, stay in the presence.
Do you have for me and for readers any exclusive news at this moment?
Of course! News: soon I will making my fans happy with my new exclusive photos and soundtracks. Follow and see updates on my Instagram.

MKS Jewellery stunning ‘Keepsakes’ Collection
28
MKS Jewellery continues to celebrate its love for selfexpression and the value of sharing sentiment with the launch of the ‘Keepsakes’ collection. The all-new capsule is comprised of precious 18 karat gold charms and charm bases, including dainty necklaces, bracelets, earrings and rings. Drawing inspiration from the sentiment and meaning inherited through the tales recounted and photographs preserved by generations before ours, each charm in the collection is a symbolic piece of our valuable heritage. Be it a reminder of a person, a moment, a story or the most important things in life, the charms are a collection of memories that celebrate the valuable keepsakes we have collected throughout our time. “While I was discovering the stories of my great grandfathers, Baba Zayed and Al Otaiba, I came across a heritage so rich in photographs, values and traditions. The muses of this collection come from these photographs and the charms are a celebration of these stories; small trinkets that become treasures, which in turn become legacy and the wealth that our ancestors lovingly passed to us - this is what I wish to give forward
to the next generations too” - HRH Sheikha Mariam bint Khalifa bin Saif al Nahyan. Carrying the precious charms are necklaces, earrings, bracelets and rings made using a hand twisted rope design, a thoughtful detail that is meant to symbolically connect the past to the present and to the future in order to further the connection to ancestry. This handmade rope detail is amoung some of the storyline extensions from Al Otaiba which are found within the ‘Keepsakes’ collection, like ‘Little Lulu’s’ which is an extension of the much-loved ‘Lulu Hearts’ and ‘Sea Signs’, pieces adorned in sea and sunset shades of enamel and hand twisted rope details. MKS Jewellery makes it their mission to give back, which is why they have yet again partnered with Ataya, a charity exhibition organized by Emirates Red Crescent, and are allocating donations to improve the health of millions of children with congenital disorders. The ‘Keepsakes’ collection will be making its official debut at the event which takes place from March 1st to 5th, 2020 in Abu Dhabi.
www.theciin.com
Also premiering at Ataya are charity charm bracelets, symbolic 18 karat gold charms, that have been individually knotted into silk bracelets by the women and children at the UAE-Jordan run Mrajeeb Al Fhood Refugee Camp. Refugees will choose a charm and go into a story telling workshop with Afra Atiq, an award-winning spoken word artist, where they will be writing a story that they relate the charm to. “Everyone has a voice, one that is powerful and has the capacity to resonate. I hope that through these workshops we can harness that power through poetry and story telling, and give wings to words through self expression and art” – Afra Atiq. Lana Albeik, a Syrian refugee herself, shot the collection campaign with MKS Jewellery to showcase these charms and speak about the cause, “being able to be heard and be part of this campaign is a privilege in itself that we hope will make even the smallest change in the lives of people who aren’t just numbers”. The entire proceeds from the sale of the bracelets will be donated back to the refugee camp that made them, another way that MKS Jewellery is giving back to the community. November, 2020

AKILLIS CAPTURE ME IN MOTION COLLECTION
AKILLIS is reinventing an instinctive French jewellery with Capture In Motion, a new collection of moving rings for men & women
44
Like a precious revolution, two components go round in an endless sensory and addictive game. An irrepressible desire to rotate the piece under the fingers, the tactile pleasure of its furrowed design, transform the ring into a sensual and absorbing plaything. AKILLIS continues to chart its course with a vital and witty spark, once again introducing a Rock spirit into modern jewelry.
Black, white, pink: the primary colors of Capture In Motion. This thoroughly graphic piece consists of two chiseled bands that revolve separately and distinctly on their axis, each incorporating the sharp and asymmetrical triangles that have become a signature feature of the brand. They seem to open like formidable jaws, revealing a surface of glistening gold, matte black titanium or sparkling diamonds. Available in eight models - four gold and titanium, four gold with diamonds - Capture In Motion rings exhibit a striking contrast between matter and color. The white or pink gold sets off the black titanium and the white gold veneered in DLC – Diamond Like Carbon – an inalterable coating that combines the properties of carbon graphite and diamonds. In stone-set pieces, the triangles shimmer with the light of 96 black or white diamonds.
Finally, the model fully-set with 120 diamonds exhibits sober opulence with its black and white design. This distinctively rock touch, at the same time, pure and creative, brings out the wearer’s assertive persona.
The polished gold body of the ring gleams with the intense glow of black diamonds or the lively glint of white diamonds. Mix & Match A future icon of the brand, this highly distinctive collection offers a multitude of aesthetic possibilities: the rings can be worn together in any number of combinations. A self-indulgent treat or a gift denoting short-lived passion and taken back tomorrow, an edgy accessory to be collected, exchanged and exhibited in all its versatility: these precious rings remain objects of whimsy and desire. A promise of love, for now or forever.

Fabergé Launch Magical Menagerie of Animal Charms for World Animal Day 2020 In celebration of World Animal Day on 4th October, Fabergé introduces a more contemporary take on charms, with the addition of a series of 12 baby animals to the Essence collection. Celebrating Fabergé’s love for surprise and wit, each piece is crafted from either yellow, rose or white 18k gold, and each possesses its own cheeky personality traits, inspired by Fabergé’s hardstone animals. These pieces also incorporate a contemporary use of an array of different coloured gemstones set for each animal’s eyes including Gemfields’ emeralds and rubies. Peter Carl Fabergé was creating charms in the 1900s, following a Russian tradition at the time, where every Easter, Christians would offer a little egg to loved ones, thereby reaffirming their faith in the miracle of Christ’s rebirth. Fabergé was renowned for his quirky little animals, both created as charms and as ornaments in hardstone. The accentuation of specific characteristics of each subject also gave them distinctive personalities. Fabergé combined these hardstones with precious metals and gems, seamlessly integrating each with the other to create miniature works of art.
50
Each charm ranges from £1,200 to £1,320 and the collection is available to view at faberge.com. Enquiries can be directed to sales@faberge.com and will be passed on to a member of the Customer Relationships Team.

BOUCHERON FALL/WINTER 2020 EYEWEAR COLLECTION
76
The enduring legacy of Boucheron’s jewelry art inspires this new eyewear collection projecting the Parisian Maison’s emblematic codes onto sophisticated shapes with bright flourishes. Fashioned from the finest materials, with an exquisite attention to detail and the highest level of craftsmanship, these one-of-a-kind creations celebrate timeless Boucheron icons such as the Serpent Bohème and the Quatre with a fresh twist. Feminine and romantic, the Serpent Bohème Couleur theme reveals a captivating aesthetic glowing with polished enamels and mother of pearls textures, while the signature twisted chain motif stands out as a further expression of intricate beauty. A new faceted touch elevates the enamel drops set on the front frames to recall the head of the snake, as well as the sculpted gold texture echoing its elegant scales on the temples. The Quatre selection evolves with architectural shapes that are impactful and versatile at once. The elegant soft cat-eye sunglasses and the rectangular optical frame combine a dense acetate front with slim metal temples enriched with yellow and red gold finish. The chic embellishment on the end pieces evokes the cobblestones of Place Vendôme as a tribute to the legendary address where Boucheron’s fascinating world of High Jewelry began.

KARL LAGERFELD FALL 2020 WOMEN’S COLLECTION
84
The KARL LAGERFELD Fall 2020 women’s collection brings a contemporary touch to influences from historic decades and places. Styles combine references found in 18th century Europe — a time period which Karl Lagerfeld was passionate about — paired with artisanal details, ‘90s silhouettes and a sophisticated spirit. The result brings a modern-day interpretation to classic inspirations; it’s fresh, feminine and powerful for a new age of chic. One of the most illustrious figures of the century was French queen Marie Antoinette, who was renowned for her sense of fashion. KARL LAGERFELD revisits the prominent silhouettes of her era including corset shapes, peplum seam lines and ruffled trims. Shades of cotton candy pink are combined with KARL’s quintessential palette of black and white. At the same time, themes of ‘90s power dressing appear in pant suits, jackets and trousers; the signature look is tailored and modern. Statement pieces include a faux fur leopard print coat, a metallic fringed skirt, and a ‘90s-inspired shirt with a built-in corset. The Fall 2020 collection further includes a capsule inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s archive designs from the 1990s. The iconic pieces have been reimagined with new hemlines and modern fabrics, as a tribute to his resounding creativity. In accessories, new prints and colors are integrated throughout the collection, adding interest and unexpected touches of texture. The K/Ikon silhouette is reimagined in both croc and snake print effects, plus with color pops of fuchsia and graffiti prints. The range includes an oversized tote, medium top handle bag, a mini bag, a mini top handle bag and small leather goods. This season the KARL SEVEN is updated with a croc print (in black, white and thunder) and a snake print effect (in fuchsia and natural). The name KARL SEVEN was inspired by Karl’s lucky number. For festive moments, the ever-popular K/Signature family returns with dazzling glitter finishes and hot fix sparkle effects. For an unmissable fashion statement, there’s also a new range of faux fur bags that are cozy soft yet effortlessly chic. Inspired by Karl Lagerfeld’s handwritten signature, the new K/Autograph features a metal lock that mimics his original initials — exactly as he wrote them since he was young. The K/Kushion range has a voluminous silhouette created by a padded, pillowy soft, pleated material. Finally, the K/Studio is refreshed with a larger “K” pattern and new flap shapes, for an edgy look. www.theciin.com

INTRODUCTION OF JAEGER-LECOULTRE POLARIS MARINER HIGH-PERFORMANCE DIVING WATCHES FOR THE JAEGER-LECOULTRE POLARIS COLLECTION
Paying homage to its distinguished diving watch legacy and drawing upon more than a century of expertise in chiming watches, the Grande Maison introduces Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner – adding two new high-performance timepieces to the sporty-elegant Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris collection. Thanks to the Manufacture’s expertise in striking movements, the Memovox has become the reference in wristwatch alarm calibres since it was introduced 70 years ago – employed in watches designed for both urban lifestyles and underwater sports.
90
Back in the fifties, scuba diving was a risky and challenging military activity. The only tool available for diving was the watch, which created a strong demand for professional diving timepieces. In 1959, Jaeger-LeCoultre responded with a unique solution, a self-winding Memovox movement, which provided an aural warning that it was time to return to the surface. This was followed in 1968 by the Memovox Polaris, with an internal rotating bezel as well as the alarm, and a triple-layer case-back for better sound transmission.
A new generation with a transparent sapphire case-back Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner draws on this diving watch heritage, presenting two new models that unite fully ISO 6425-compliant specifications with the sporty aesthetic of the contemporary Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris collection: the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner Memovox and the JaegerLeCoultre Polaris Mariner Date. The 42mm cases feature the key design codes of the JaegerLeCoultre Polaris cases with their taut lines, glass-box crystals, and dynamic mix of brushed and polished surfaces. In keeping with their purpose as a high-performance diving watches, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner cases are water-resistant to 300 metres (30 bar). Furthermore, the crown used to set the notched inner-bezel is screwed-down to avoid any unintentional movement, with the addition of an orange security band to warn divers when it is not fully screwed down. Distinguished by their rich gradient-blue colour, the JaegerLeCoultre Polaris Mariner dials also remain true to the contemporary Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris aesthetic, comprising three concentric circles finished in different textures and featuring bold trapezoid-shaped indexes and three Arabic numerals. The central disc of the dials is sunray-brushed, complementing the subtle graining of the middle ring and the opaline finish of the outer ring, which serves as the unidirectional rotating bezel. The hands, indexes and numerals are filled with SuperLumiNova® to ensure excellent legibility in low light, as required of all diving watches. However, Jaeger-LeCoultre has gone a step further, maximising divers’ safety by using different colours to distinguish the hour and minute hands. The running seconds hand is tipped in orange for daylight visibility, with a central luminescent section to avoid any possibility of confusion with the other hands. www.theciin.com
JAEGER-LECOULTRE POLARIS MARINER DATE
The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner Date offers the classic diving-watch functions of hours and minutes, with a running time indicator (seconds hand) and unidirectional inner bezel, and the addition of an instantly-jumping date display. The dual-crown configuration is typical of super compressor-type diving watch cases, with the upper crown for operating the inner bezel and the lower one for setting the time and date. Since Jaeger-LeCoultre introduced the Calibre 899, its engineers have constantly updated it to incorporate the latest performance-enhancing technology. The newgeneration version powering the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner Date is fitted with some technical improvements to guarantee a power reserve of 70 hours. True to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s guiding philosophy of uniting innovation and tradition, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner timepieces pay homage to the Maison’s past, while adding two entirely new high-performance diving watches to the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris collection.
91
JAEGER-LECOULTRE POLARIS MARINER MEMOVOX
Celebrating THE SOUND MAKER™, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner Memovox pays direct homage to Jaeger-LeCoultre’s first diving watches, with their robust capabilities and distinctive aesthetic. The self-winding movement, Calibre 956, is also a direct descendant of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s first automatic alarm watch calibres. Introduced in 2008, it has been comprehensively revised by the Manufacture’s engineers for this latest generation of alarm watches. Previously, Memovox watches had a closed case-back, to which the gong was attached; however, the JaegerLeCoultre Polaris Mariner Memovox has a transparent sapphire case-back, allowing the wearer to watch the hammer in action. This demanded a complete redesign of the striking mechanism, with the gong now attached to the case side. The open-worked heavy metal rotor ensures an unobstructed view of the strike-works, its Côtes de Genève decoration matching the fine finishing on the movement plates. One important element remains unchanged, however: the signature “school bell” sound of the alarm, which lends such charm to the Memovox. The Jaeger-LeCoultre Polaris Mariner Memovox retains the signature three-crown configuration of the earliest Memovox diving watches. The top crown controls the alarm, turning the central disc of the dial so that the triangular pointer lines up with the desired alarm time; the central crown operates the inner dive bezel and the lowest crown sets the time.

JACQUIE AICHE LAUNCHES EARTH ENERGY
Infused with inspiration from Mother Nature Rooted in admiration for precious gemstones and their power to heal, A-list jewelry designer Jacquie Aiche has launched its Earth Energy Collection, just in time for the fall season. Designed and handcrafted in Aiche's Los Angeles studio, the collection is shaped by Aiche's founding philosophy of "spreading positive energy, every day", infused with inspiration from nature.

99
Working directly with those extracting the gemstones from the earth, every precious stone is hand-selected, and honors what ‘mother nature’ has uniquely delivered. The handcrafted pieces are adorned in 14-carat gold, rose gold or silver, and studded with diamonds and precious gemstones such as Malachite, Chrysoprase, Morganite, and Opal. Crediting the brand's distinct style to the unique tapestry of Aiche's blended cultural background, Aiche says she channels her Middle Eastern and Native American roots through the sacred aesthetic of her full range of pieces, "My Native American heritage pulls me towards turquoise, fossils and precious gemstones, while my Middle Eastern roots influence the use of regional nuances such as hammered gold and the evil eye". Aiche launched the brand over a decade ago after a lifelong fascination with the healing power of stones, fuelled also by personal frustrations toward the limited styles of fine jewellery available on the market at that time. Through the Earth Energy collection, Aiche continues to translate creative expression through stones and cement her reputation as an internationally acclaimed fine jewellery label adorned by celebrities and VIPs alike. The jewellery can be bought online at www.jacquieaiche.com and in over 40 prestigious retailers across the world.

GIVENCHY SPRING-SUMMER 2021
WOMEN’S & MEN’S READY-TO-WEAR COLLECTION “You find the pieces of the puzzle for a collection, building it from symbols and signs, but never forgetting the reality of the person who will wear it and bring it to life. The women and men should be powerful and effortless, equal and joyful, a reflection of who they really are – only more so. It’s about finding the humanity in luxury.” Matthew M Williams, Creative Director, Givenchy. At Matthew M Williams’ Givenchy, ‘Hardware‘ is key. Eschewing, gendered notions of jewellery and accessories, rather it is hardware that unites the women and men of Givenchy, a symbolic nexus of utility and luxury and the place where this collection began. The Lover’s Lock is a unisex object of utility, decoration, commitment and emotion; a sincere yet playful symbol of Paris – it nods to the lost locks of Le Pont des Arts – it is an object punctuated throughout this initial collection as both decoration and fastenings. It also points to Williams’ commitment to the world of Givenchy in this first proposal as the house’s Creative Director.
120
The Spring Summer 21 collection explores Givenchy in the form of a stream of consciousness for Williams and is a ‘sampler’ of what is to come. Begun in the midst of a pandemic and completed within two months, this is a new beginning, yet is intermingled with elements of the archive and is a utilization of Givenchy’s distinct lineage, pointing to the past, present and future. Above all, there is a sense of celebration, of the people who have led Williams here and those he wants to wear the clothes. This is expressed in the images that reveals the collection, a photographic study by the creative director together with the artist Heji Shin – a photographer who also gets to the heart of who a person is as much as to the clothes they wear From Hubert de Givenchy’s swathes of looped drapery, lighter than air transparencies, linear necklines and ‘Jour’ open backs, to the McQueen horn, reborn; both the classical and radical contrasts of Givenchy are embraced and shown to have always been part of the house’s history in the collection. Ultimately, it is a feeling of elegance, playfulness and pragmatism that is key to Matthew M Williams’ vision for the house. There is a notion of evolution, both lighthearted and serious, in this play of elements past and present. From the Tryp-toe shoe and stockings, the Horn heel and hat together with a further examination of the Antigona bag, each is a play on and development of existing objects in the archive. They are joined by the new unisex Cutout bag in its many iterations, as well as the G chains, objects that are destined to add to the history of the house and are interspersed throughout Williams’ signature technical material experimentation is balanced by the traditional, natural and opulent. From the use of a cotton Ottoman for both genders in outerwear,

technical taffeta in tailoring and structured Punto di Milano jersey to evoke more pure forms in dressmaking, tradition is respected yet refined and re-contextualized. At the same time, an experiment in different densities of injected foam leads to an evolution of the slide, the ultra-comfortable Marshmallow Slide is the footwear that underpins much of the collection, quite literally providing a casual, insouciant foundation for many of the more formal looks. The study of casual archetypes continues throughout the collection, including new technical coatings of denim in both paint and resin, work that is as labour intensive as the collection’s more traditional embroideries. It is a sign of Williams’ Californian sensibility transplanted to Europe that he approaches the two sides with equal aplomb and rigour, both classicism and subversion, with a sense of ease and respect for the humanity of the wearer infusing all.

A Luxury Getaway in the Himalayas Taj Theog Resort & Spa Studio Lotus Studio Lotus’ Design for the Mountain Resort’s Public Spaces Borrows from the Vernacular and Regional History
Taj Theog is a 90-key, luxury resort that sits on a cliff on the periphery of Theog, a remote Himalayan town in the northern Indian state of Himachal Pradesh. The project marks the Taj Hotels’ first hospitality venture in Himachal Pradesh and had a clear mandate to marry the region’s rich cultural heritage with worldclass amenities to offer guests a service-oriented environment with a profound local connect. Studio Lotus was brought on board by Pradeep Sachdeva Design Associates (PSDA), the architects on the project, to design its public spaces with the aim of bringing in the distinct warmth and intimacy of a mountain home to the hospitality experience. www.theciin.com

130 Consisted of the brief, the studio has employed a light material palette of locally-sourced timber and stone to create a quiet and restrained spatial experience. Handcrafted elements from the vernacular lexicon are contemporized and incorporated to evoke traditional spatial gestures associated with hospitality and home-like warmth. For instance, the prime showcase for this approach, the hotel lobby, features rows of timber spindles suspended on metal screens to recreate the welcoming gesture of Himachali homes in a modern format, as well as to break the large expanse of space into smaller, intimate pockets. The scale of the space is further modulated through the use of locally-sourced pinewood and slate, as well as intricate geometric patterns in the tiles and wooden paneling, both of which add visual density to the interiors. The resort, spread across three levels, comprises zones characterized by specific elements to create a distinct identity. For instance, local slate and Budhpura stone are used within the all-day dining space to create a muted foil for the panoramic views of the Theog valley. In contrast, the wide floor span and low-hung roof of the bar are utilized to create a train carriagelike atmosphere, inspired by colonial-era railway dining cars. For the specialty restaurant, the sculptural expression of the wall cladding draws inspiration from Asian influences as well as the traditions of earthenware in the region. In a similar vein, leisure zones at the lower levels, including the spa, salon, and gym, feature artworks and storytelling devices to create a sense of place for each facility. A central contemplative kund-like water body greets visitors at the entrance to the zone; beyond, the corridors that lead to the treatment rooms are dotted with specially-commissioned illustrations of local flora and fauna, and display cases with pressed and preserved flowers collected from around the site. www.theciin.com
131
Moreover, the stone-and-timber vocabulary extends into the circulation spaces of the hotel; through the strategic usage of deodar wood as well as hand-carved motifs referencing the art and culture of Himachal Pradesh, the design scheme evokes a sense of continuity as guests move through the spaces. Says Ankur Choksi, Principal, about the project, “Overall, even with the narrative of the local stories woven in, the broad stance of the interior scheme is to provide a neutral, evocative backdrop for the hotel’s team to enhance the everyday experience of their clientele using their core values of service and attention to personal needs. The design intervention only attempts to substantiate this sense of luxury that gets created by the experience of being truly taken care of. November, 2020

Advanced, efficient engines The new XE is available with the next generation Ingenium 2.0-litre, four-cylinder, turbocharged 204PS** diesel engine, along with the latest 250PS and 300PS petrol engines. All XE models are available with Jaguar’s eight-speed automatic transmission and rear- or all-wheel drive. The full powertrain range is: Diesel • 204PS** MHEV 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, RWD / AWD Petrol • 250PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, RWD / AWD • 300PS 2.0-litre four-cylinder turbo, eight-speed automatic, www.theciin.com
AWD The next generation 2.0-litre four-cylinder 204PS** Ingenium diesel engine features Mild Hybrid Electric Vehicle (MHEV) technology for the first time. The advanced new MHEV system uses a Belt-integrated Starter Generator (BiSG) situated in the engine bay to harvest energy usually lost when slowing and braking, which is then stored in a 48V lithium-ion battery located beneath the rear loadspace. It is able to redeploy the stored energy to assist the engine when accelerating away while also delivering a more refined and responsive stop/start system. The new engine powers the XE from 0-60mph in 6.9 seconds (0-100km/h in 7.3 seconds) and is capable of up to 58.5mpg (4.8l/100km)*** with CO2 emissions as low as 127g/km*** on the WLTP test cycle. A selection of advanced engine strategies provides added refinement and performance, including variable vane geometry turbocharger technology. At low engine speeds the turbocharger vanes rotate to narrow the opening between them, increasing exhaust gas velocity and boosting pressure, which provides rapid torque response and enhanced acceleration. At high engine speeds, the vanes open, ensuring maximum exhaust gas flow to deliver peak power while maintaining optimum efficiency. The engine now features steel pistons, with the higher strength material allowing for a more compact, lower friction design as well as increased capability to withstand higher peak pressures. Their stronger construction enables more intricate and thorough integration of cooling channels for improved thermal management. At the same time, the thermal expansion rate is closer to that of the iron cylinder liners for improved clearance control, both enhancing cooling and reducing friction for better efficiency. The new 2,500 bar piezo common-rail injection system delivers even finer control of fuel delivered into the cylinders. This reduces emissions and improves efficiency. Together with the latest variable geometry turbochargers, this ensures that the Ingenium diesel delivers the ideal
135 balance of performance, refinement and fuel economy. Colin Kirkpatrick, Chief Product Engineer, Jaguar, said: “The updated Jaguar XE features a selection of enhancements which make it an even better choice for buyers. The new MHEV diesel powertrain brings an electrified engine option to XE for the first time and delivers improved efficiency combined with refined performance. Meanwhile, cuttingedge technologies, such as our new Pivi Pro infotainment system and latest Cabin Air Ionisation technologies, provide greater connectivity, convenience and wellbeing for all for occupants.” Petrol customers can choose between the 250PS or a 300PS version of the Ingenium 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine, available at 2020 model year, which produce 365Nm and 400Nm of torque respectively. Both feature the latest engine technologies including a twin scroll turbocharger and Continuous Variable Valve Lift (CVVL), for a strong combination of refined performance and efficiency. The 250PS petrol engine delivers fuel economy of up to 35.6mpg (7.9 l/100km)***, from CO2 emissions of 179g/km*** and 0-60mph in 6.4 seconds (0-100km/h in 6.7 seconds). The powerful 300PS engine – exclusively mated to Jaguar’s intelligent all-wheel drive system - is able to propel the XE from 0-60mph in 5.6 seconds (0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds).
and a configurable layout which can show full screen navigation mapping with turn-by-turn instructions, digital dials, media, contact list or infotainment details. Working in conjunction with the latest Head-up Display technology, XE gives drivers all the information they need without distraction. The intuitive new infotainment system features Apple CarPlay® as standard and allows customers to connect two phones simultaneously via Bluetooth. Android Auto™ and Baidu CarLife are also available as standard depending on market applicability.
Latest connected technologies The XE features Jaguar’s latest Pivi Pro infotainment system, accessed through the seamlessly integrated 10-inch central touchscreen, while the 5.5-inch lower touchscreen, also powered by the new Pivi technology, combines two multifunctional LED rotary controllers for intuitive operation of key vehicle functions. BREAKFAST O’CLOCK! by travel-expert José Berrocoso
BEGIN THE DAY WITH A TRADITIONAL JAPANESE BREAKFAST
136 w w w. a m a n . c o m
Occupying the top six floors of the monumental Otemachi Tower, Aman Tokyo echoes the city’s synergy between history and modernity. Throughout the property, design features pay homage to Japanese tradition and its unique culture of hospitality – from the rock and water garden in the Lobby to washi paper doors and furo soaking tubs in the rooms. Guests are invited to enjoy daily breakfast at Arva, which, with its views over the Imperian Gardens and across to Mount Fuji, provides an unparalleled urban backdrop and an inspiring start to the day. The traditional Japanese breakfast still stands as one of the best ways of starting the morning, because of its ingredients. Japanese people feel very strongly about having a healthy breakfast to start the day off. Hence, their philosophy is to never eat anything for breakfast that you would not eat for dinner. Choose green tea or roasted tea, Nagano steamd rice or congee, a type of rice porridge. The full traditional breakfast comes with marinated seasonal vegetables, sweetened vinegar dish, Japanese rolled omelette, grated radish, baked seasonal fish, miso soup, Japanese pickles and seasonal fruit. However if you are not into new flavours, you can mix & match your own breakfast: American breakfast set, wide selection of juices and smoothies, yoghurt, cereals, scramble eggs or classic egg benedict.

As part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt, a collection of distinct hotels with their own narrative, Hôtel du Louvre sits in the heart of the city's Palais-Royal district, surrounded by the Musée du Louvre, the ComédieFrançaise, the Palais Garnier and Palais Royal. The 164 rooms and suites have been fully redesigned to reflect the hotel's original Parisian style, with high ceilings, elegant moldings, marble floors reminiscent of the Opéra Garnier and chic Parisian furniture. Colorful and evocative illustrations by Emmanuel Pierre lead guests from the rooms to the lobby and dining areas, which are reimagined by renowned architect, George Wong. With its charm and fascinating past, this story-worthy property will inspire guests to visit the City of Lights and create their own one-of-a-kind experience.

Originally opened in 1855 as Paris' first grand hotel, the property is a self-standing central landmark that epitomizes the effervescence of Paris during Napoleon III's empire. The Second French Empire architecture and the modern interior design provide a bold and thoughtful contrast to this extraordinary hotel. It draws inspiration from the personalities that have shaped the hotel's rich history, including Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, Victor Hugo and Sigmund Freud. The hotel's 106 sunlit rooms and 58 suites are set in typical French décor, some of which also offer balconies with views over the Opera Avenue, Comédie-Française and the Louvre Museum. Some of them are filled with remarkable stories from the past. For example, Sigmund Freud wrote his 'Leonardo da Vinci, A Memory of His Childhood' in 1910 in one of the hotel's suites. Also, Camille Pissarro found his inspiration at Hôtel du Louvre while working on eleven paintings depicting the view of the Opéra Garnier. In addition to this colorful past, Emmanuel Pierre's colorful and dreamlike illustrations greet guests as they arrive.

Brasserie du Louvre is the first Parisian 'Brasserie Bocuse' serving traditional French cuisine with recipes developed by Paul Bocuse, known as the "Chef of the Century." The restaurant is part of Bocuse's Restaurants et Brasseries de Lyon which have been embodying Lyon's gastronomy and French expertise for the past twenty-five years. The menu is just as old-school as the red banquettes and chequered floor, with plats including Lyonnaise classics such as quenelle de brochet and poulet de bresse as well as an excellent veal escalope served with a nutmeg-heavy macaroni gratin.

Four Seasons Hotel Lion Palace is located in the heart of Saint Petersburg, just 300 metres from the Dvortsovaya Square.
Sustainability’s the watchword at former Noma head chef Matt Orlando’s graffitiwalled fine-diner. The menu champions seasonal ingredients sourced locally – berries, herbs and greens come straight from Amass’s delightful kitchen garden – while the kitchen’s unrelenting ‘zerowaste’ ethos helps it concoct clever dishes like chewy beetroots with walnut pulp custard and salted blackberries.

What To Do... The State Hermitage Museum
Peter and Paul Fortress
The Hermitage Museum in St. Petersburg is not only one of the oldest (if not THE oldest) museums in the world, it is also one of the best. It is located inside the Winter Palace of Empress Catherine the great and spans more than 1,500 rooms. Leonardo da Vinci, Monet, Van Gogh, but also ancient Scythian Gold and artwork from the dawn of time – this museum will quite literally take your breath away.
Peter and Paul Fortress marks the very spot St. Petersburg was founded. It was here, Tsar Peter erected a small wooden hut in 1703 AD and oversaw the construction of the mighty fortress. The bell tower of the Peter and Paul Cathedral (122.5 meters) is still the highest building in St. Petersburg. Below lie the many sarcophagi of the Russian Tsars.
Catherine Palace
Fabergé Museum
Even a quick taxi ride through St. Petersburg will impress the sheer quantity of palaces in the city onto you. There are quite literally thousands! Perhaps the grandest of them all lies in Pushkin, some 25 kilometers outside. Catherine the Great built it to escape the many obligations at court.
The Fabergé Museum opened in 2013. But despite that short history, the privately owned museum is already one of the highlights. Here you will see 9 (!!) of the fabled Imperial Easter Eggs and some 4.000 other exhibits from Farbergé and the golden age of jewelry! You will need to get tickets in advance.

HOROSCOPES ARIES
LIBRA
November 2020 is the time every year when your interactions with others intensify, dear Aries, as the Scorpio Sun travels in the part of your chart where you merge your energies with others on every level – psychologically, philosophically, intellectually, financially and sexually. What adds to this powerhouse energy this year is the cycle of Mars, your ruling planet also in intense, magical Scorpio after the 11th. Be prepared for the urge to merge to continue as the Scorpio New Moon on the 12th begs the question: What do you most want from your relationships and what are you willing to invest to get it?
You’re having a ball now, aren’t you, oh lover of relationships, teamwork and cooperation, with Jupiter, the planet of growth and expansion, travelling in your sign. If you’re cashing in now, it’s because you deserve it. You’re reaping what you’ve sown over the last 12 years as it appears that everyone is your raving fan. And with Venus, your guardian angel planet, in Libra until the 22nd when she flows into powerful Scorpio, people are coming out of the woodwork to support you in making your dreams come true. Yes, everything you touch can turn to gold because you believe it. Of all the signs in the zodiac, you recognize the value and the gift in all relationships and now’s the time for you to reaffirm that every match is made in heaven.
TAURUS
SCORPIO
Remember the story of Ferdinand the bull? All he wanted to do was sit under the cork tree and smell the roses – until one day he sat on a bumblebee and they thought he must be ferocious enough to fight the bull in the ring in Madrid. With the Scorpio Sun in your house of relationships, joined by Mars, the planet of passion and desire in Scorpio on the 11th and the New Moon in Scorpio on the 12th, you may feel like that bull who sat on a bumblebee. Normally, you abhor confrontation, you peace-loving bull, and it may seem that your relationships are egging you on – but the truth is that underneath that desire for peace at any price your soul wants greater intimacy and the only way to have greater intimacy is to be willing to dance in the fire.
This is your month of rebirth, healing, regeneration and maximum intensity, dear Scorpio. Whether you express the scorpion, snake or phoenix/eagle energy of Scorpio is up to you to decide. And this November 2020 is particularly powerful for you as Mars, your guardian angel planet of desire and action joins the Sun in Scorpio on the 11th. Expect things to really heat up after the 11th as you become one with your passion. And when you’re focused on your heart’s desire, there’s no one more focused, determined and relentless than you. Passion is your middle name and Mars in your sign, which only occurs every two years, just doubles the pleasure and doubles the fun.
GEMINI
146
SAGITTARIUS
As the adaptable, versatile and sometimes scattered and flighty air sign of the zodiac, you’ve been wondering what hit you as life has been fraught with power struggles lately, with Pluto, the planet of power, dancing opposite your Sun in Gemini. And you’ve been learning to surrender, haven’t you? With the Sun, Mars and the New Moon all in Scorpio on the 12th, it’s time for you to transform the day-to-day quality of your life. If this intense energy seems to be taking its toll on your health and a general sense of well-being, look at what you eat, how much sleep you get, if you exercise on a regular basis and decide to make changes in these areas so that you create a vibrant, healthy mind/body/spirit. Scorpio is the sign of transformation, magic, healing and regeneration. So plant the seeds of renewal at this Scorpio New Moon because the Universe always says YES!
There’s always the potential for lots of behind the scenes activity in November 2020, dear Archer, as the Scorpio planets flow in your 12th house of dreams, inspiration, spirituality and your unconscious. And very likely it will be easy for you to share what’s going on as Mercury, the planet of communication, cycles into your sign on the 2nd where it will be until January 10, 2021, because of its retrograde journey beginning on the 30th. Wherever you need clarity and direction in your life, ask for answers in your dreams, especially around the New Moon in Scorpio on the 12th, because while the body sleeps the soul never does. And with Jupiter, your guardian angel planet now in Libra, the sign of teamwork and cooperation, people are coming out of nowhere to support you and your process.
CANCER
CAPRICORN
It’s not easy being you, you say, dear crab? There’s no question that you’ve had to be more disciplined and responsible for your feelings and your emotional well-being. With Saturn, the planet of responsibility and discipline, in Cancer since August, you’ve had quite a lesson in self-parenting and selfnurturing – not to mention taking responsibility for EVERYTHING you feel without making it someone’s else’s fault. You know now, dear Moonchild, that you’re just as capable of abandoning you as anyone else. With Saturn retrograding on the 8th, you’ll have one more opportunity to create those internal structures that truly support who you are now. Remember, a playpen is an appropriate, safe structure to protect a child, but that same playpen is confining and restrictive to an adult. Saturn’s message is that you have what it takes to be your own mommy and daddy.
While you usually know where you’re going, your path up the mountain may not be all that clear as Saturn, your ruling planet begins its 5-month retrograde cycle on the 8th. The monthly horoscope advises you to take a long hard look at the quality of your relationships, both personal and business and if they are pulling their weight. This is a great time to set boundaries and ask for what you want. And be prepared that your partners will be letting you know, in no uncertain terms, what they need from you. In your career, which is most important to you, you may be ready for a raise, a promotion, a new job or all three as Jupiter’s expansive energy traverses your 10th house. You’re ready to step up and assume greater responsibility and if you can’t do it in your current job, you may decide to look for a new one and a new and better job may find you because you deserve it.
LEO
AQUARIUS
VIRGO
PISCES
While you are normally gregarious, fun-loving and outgoing by nature, you may be feeling more private, with-drawn, introspective and reflective, with the Sun and Mars in Scorpio cycling in the house of your physical and emotional foundations. This is the time to entertain yourself in the privacy of your home and celebrate the miracle of your inner life. It would be good to undertake a project in your home so that you have a physical outlet for the intense, powerful energy of Mars, the planet of desire and action, in Scorpio. If there is friction at home or underlying tension, try to remember when you felt similar energies as a child, because the 4th house is also your past – and if you’re willing to fearlessly face what may be up with the courage of the lion, you will create an amazing present out of that past.
You may feel like you’re waking up after a long sleep as Uranus, your guardian angel planet of awakening, breakthrough and rebellion, moves forward again on the 11th after its 5-month tailspin. It’s time for magic in your career this month as the Scorpio planets travel in your 10th house. You feel a powerful sense of mission, especially when Mars cycles into Scorpio on the 11th and the New Moon in Scorpio occurs on the 12th. You are the humanitarian of the zodiac and it’s time to express your uniqueness, originality and inventiveness in your job and move beyond all restrictions and eliminate what’s not working once Uranus moves forward. There are numerous opportunities for powerful alliances now with people where you can be of mutual benefit to each other.
What a ride you’ve had for the last year as you expanded on every level possible, perhaps even your waistline? Mercury, your guardian angel planet, leaves the focused, determined, penetrating Scorpio energy and journeys into optimistic, exuberant, enthusiastic Sagittarius on the 4th and then retrogrades on the 30th until December 20. The message of Mercury in fiery Scorpio is to lighten up on yourself, dear Virgo. Quit being so anal about everything having to be just so. You can miss the miracle of life if you’re so focused on every little detail. With all the Sagittarius planets in your 3rd house of communication and Mercury in philosophical Scorpio, you’ll find the words to see the bigger picture and communicate with greater power, meaning and purpose at the Full Moon in Gemini on the 26th.
As reported by the November 2020 horoscope, your head may be spinning as you step up to who you really are, this month. You are in a creative reawakening and are coming into your own. The dazzling planet Uranus puts you at the center of divine change which may also feel like your own personal revolution so that you can discover the real you. Reinvent yourself and revise your personal life itinerary. More than ever before, you need to be you and do what you want to do in your own unique way. Normally gentle, compassionate and self-sacrificing, it will surprise you how easy it will be to blast anyone or anything out of sight and mind that prevents you from expressing your inventiveness and individuality. And whatever you give up or lose will be replaced by a rare cosmic gift, your independence – something to treasure forever.
