The Stunning OMEGA Speedmaster Moonwatch Master Chronometer Canopus Gold™ Shines in Nick Jonas’ Latest Music Video, “Spaceman”
JAEGER-LECOULTRE UNFOLDS INFINITY IN FOUR CHAPTERS WITH THE REVERSO HYBRIS MECHANICA CALIBRE 185
Unlike anything he’s done before, “Spaceman,” a cosmic pop odyssey, launches the Grammy and Golden Globe nominated artist and actor into a new dimension of creativity. Blasting off into new territory, OMEGA shines throughout this video as the accessory of choice for the singer. In this artistic and beautiful video, whose themes touch on space exploration, the brand-new OMEGA Speedmaster Master Chronometer Canopus Gold™ is the perfect timepiece to explore the world of “Spaceman.” This watch is a perfect fit, with the Speedmaster’s rich history in space exploration, having been part of all six moon landings. Also, of note, Nick is the first celebrity to ever sport the newest iteration of this iconic timepiece in luxurious Canopus Gold™. “Spaceman” took shape throughout 2020 when the world shutdown. Following a whirlwind two years back with the Jonas Brothers, Nick intentionally unplugged from music, wrote screenplays, and dabbled in other creative projects. This time to decompress led Nick back into music and turned isolation into connection, fueling this latest single and video.

The Birth of a Cult Fragrance Dubbed the cult scent, we look into the evolution of this New Yorkbased perfumer as told in The Essence
34
Le Labo On Customized Creations
Fabrice Penot and Edouard Roschi are the creatives behind the seminal fragrance Santal 33, which opened up the world of unisex and niche fragrance to an entirely new generation. Despite the fame and fortune, these wunderkinder of the perfume industry have kept their creative vision going strong for over a decade. When Fabrice Penot and Edouard Roschi founded Le Labo in 2006 with nothing more than their own savings and a dream of creating a high-quality perfume, little did they know that they were creating one of niche perfumery’s biggest success stories. They gained so much worldwide adoration that estée Lauder acquired the company in 2014. “It is always great for creators to feel their vision validated by other people—it took time, as no one believed in it when we launched—but eventually the integrity of our work and our unwillingness to compromise resonated with clients,” Penot comments. “We never tried to convince anyone of what we were doing. We just kept showing up every day, over and over, and tried to make people happy.”
Despite the acquisition and immense growth, Penot and Roschi have managed to uphold Le Labo’s creative ethos. “We’ve always been about blurring the line—and we still are despite our success. It is not about being mass or being niche, it is about making people feel special, making their lives more beautiful. As long as we succeed in doing that, we will be a success, whatever our top line is,” he explains. Although the brand’s offerings have expanded to 18 fragrances (that’s excluding their 13 city exclusive scents), 11 candles, grooming products, and a plant-based range of body, skin, and hair care, every launch is an organic extension of their vision.

Employees hand-blend the selected perfume for customers on-site. (Photo: Le Labo)
An excerpt from Le Labo’s manifesto reads: “We believe that there are too many bottles of perfume and not enough soulful fragrances.” One such example is Santal 33 (a blend of sandalwood, papyrus, cedar, and leather created by perfumer Frank Voelkel), which went on to have an immensely profound impact on the industry when it launched in 2006, spawning a cult following and headlines galore. “Santal 33 is kind of a miracle— it has this universality to it; it is transgender, transgenerational, and transcultural. It seems that we have touched a chord with it that moves us all for the same reason. What perfume works on your mom and on your boyfriend with the same magic? That’s pretty amazing.”
35
It isn’t just their fragrances or chic, modern apothecary-style aesthetic that appeals to consumers, but also Le Labo’s retail concept. After settling on a scent of choice, a customer’s fragrance is created for them on the spot, with a bespoke label listing the location, date, and client name. While the fragrance composition itself has already been created, it is this act of customization in the final step that truly resonates with those who are seeking a perfume all their own. however, Penot is quick to stress that what’s inside the bottle still remains the most vital element. “As far as individuality and customization, I think it is a part of our success, but a very small part. At the end of the day, it is about the quality of the liquid in the bottle,” he states.
Each Le Labo scent is named after the dominant material and number of fragrance notes. (Photo: Le Labo) April, 2021
Given Le Labo’s status in the fragrance industry (with 56 stand-alone boutiques worldwide and counting), it is only natural to wonder where Penot and Roschi see themselves sitting on the niche/mass-market divide. “Now it is so busy that it feels like a niche is a new mass, for sure. But there is still a head start given to the ones who know what they are doing,” he explains. It is this unwavering dedication to their original purpose, regardless of industry speculations or specific trends, that have kept their brand on top. “The truth is, for the last 13 years, we have been focused on our craft, on making the most beautiful perfumes we can, sold in a quiet and interesting environment, resisting the confusion of comparing ourselves and positioning ourselves in a market that we don’t know anymore,” Penot says. “We have our little planet and we are determined to keep doing what we do without being bothered by the ‘cool of the day,’ even when there is our name on it.”

AKILLIS x JITROIS – ROCKING THE PLACE WITH THE NEW COLLECTION
66
Jean-Claude Jitrois, the stretchleather specialist and a longtime friend has joined forces with Caroline Gaspard the creator of AKILLIS jewelry for a one-ofa-kind collaboration: a capsule collection inspired by her recent Tattoo jewelry line, offering men and women an initiation into the world of jewelry tattoos. A send-up to tribal tattoo art that traces its origins to the Pacific islands, this collection will land close to the hearts of lovers of jewelry tattoos. The creativity of Caroline Gaspard combines with the savoir-faire and signature pieces of the Maison Jitrois. As a pair, Caroline and JeanClaude develop their shared taste for paradox and offer a collection where waves, harpoons, spirals, and arrows meld and clash in a harmony of opposites. The iconic styles of Maison Jitrois (the black-stretch-leather Nayala dress, the Rider jacket) emerge with a new look⎯elegance from a fresh, Ethno-Rock angle.

KENZO FW21 COLLECTION
74
Kenzo Takada passed away on October the 4th 2020. The news was abrupt, sudden and unexpected. Immediately the internet was inundated with tributes, messages, photos and videos of Kenzo himself, his work and life. Our acquaintance was brief, nevertheless it felt like I lost someone close to me. The following Monday I was back at work, still numb from the recent shock. Time to start working on the next collection. Where to start? How to transform the grieving into something positive, joyful, free? I knew only one thing. I did not want it to be a tribute, but rather a celebration. A celebration of the man, his work and incredible vision. Nothing new could come out of just a polite and reverential look back at Kenzo’s amazing legacy. Space must be allowed for intuition, instinct, surprises, and accidents. Nothing new can be achieved without these. I have started by watching all of the (recently restored) videos of Kenzo’s shows from 1978 until 1985. Although I already knew all the clothes and collections from the archives, photos, drawings, magazines…. To see all these great garments in movement opened a new perspective into Kenzo’s world. Suddenly his vocabulary gained a whole new palette of colours. Here, models strolled and wondered in a state of vibrant jubilation, grace and cheekiness. Everything www.theciin.com
75
seemed so organic and effortless, sensual and emotional. In a way, very much the contrary of what so much of fashion has become: formulated, safe and predictable. We selected a few pieces from the archives of Kenzo and my own. Then started a long process of trying the clothes on, photographing and studying them in movement. Collage, cut, paste, erase, draw, turn them inside out, then upside down, dissect them, pull them apart, and back together again. Sketch books were filled with collages, drawings and pictures of possibilities. Possibilities of a new narrative, a new collection, a new silhouette, new clothes, new functionalities, new sensualities. Possibilities of a new world. A world without borders, prejudices, and stereotypes. Kenzo stood for freedom, joy, diversity, love of nature and creating harmony out of contrasts. I wanted colour and print to reflect all of this. An offering to Kenzo of all things he cherished. Landscapes, hortensias, birds, chains, roses, stripes, pansies, tulips and cocktail glasses… all mixed together in an imaginary colourful feast. Although confined in Paris, between home and work, we travelled in our minds, creativity as a form of antidote to our current situation. Creation as our new elixir. Going places, always. The magic and beauty of travel, a tribute to nomad peoples and minds. The fearless, optimistic and independent wanderers of the world. They run, dance and celebrate in their lush textile armours. The joy and thrill of arriving somewhere new, unexpected and untouched. A visceral yearning for life. A visceral lust for freedom. Kenzo Takada Always. April, 2021

IWC UNVEILS BIG PILOT’S WATCH SHOCK ABSORBER XPL IWC Schaffhausen has presented the Big Pilot’s Watch Shock Absorber XPL at the digital Watches and Wonders exhibition, the first watch to feature the brand’s patented new shock absorber system. Developed over eight years, the SPRIN-g PROTECT system is based on a cantilever spring that suspends the movement inside the case. Thanks to its perfect form and the use of Bulk Metallic Glass (BMG), the spring protects the movement against the g-forces generated during impacts on the watch. In impact tests conducted at the Cavendish Laboratory at the University of Cambridge, a protected movement has survived accelerations in excess of 30,000 g.
83 A PERFECT FORM AND AN ADVANCED MATERIAL The key to this performance lies in the spring’s perfect form and the material used to make it. The spring has been designed to evenly spread the stress across its length and width. Solving this challenge required advanced simulation tools and a painstaking design process. A second decisive factor is the choice of Bulk Metallic Glass (BMG) as a material. A sophisticated manufacturing process gives BMG amorphous microstructure, with the result that it is significantly more elastic than conventional metals. An ultra- lightweight titanium casing ring further reduces the mass that the shock absorber must hold. Another innovation is a unique crown system with a winding stem that allows the movement to displace independently of the case.
CUSTOM-MADE LIGHTWEIGHT MOVEMENT Reducing the mass to be protected by the spring is critical for the system’s overall performance. The IWC- manufactured 32115 calibre used for this watch is a custom-made lightweight construction. Components like the base plate are made from a high-tech aluminium alloy used in the aerospace sector, which is light and highly rigid. The bidirectional pawl winding system builds up a power reserve of 120 hours.
COMPREHENSIVELY TESTED WITH REAL IMPACTS To put the SPRIN-g PROTECT system through its paces under the most realistic conditions, IWC collaborated with the Fracture & Shock Physics group at the Cavendish Laboratory of Cambridge University in England, U.K. The scientists used laserbased measurement methods and high-speed video recording to analyse the effects that impacts show on the movement. During these comprehensive tests, protected movements have survived the extreme forces from accelerations in excess of 30,000 g.

Dellaluna Venezia reveals a Middle East exclusive handbag
90
A nod to the region and its rich history, Italian luxury brand, Dellaluna Venezia’s fine craftsmanship combined with its rich heritage come together this Ramadan to reveal an exquisite new design of the limited-edition Dogaressa, that was crafted especially for the Middle East. Named Dogaressa, after the Queen of Venice, the bag is a celebration of the harmonious collision of the Arab and Venetian worlds and their royal aesthetics. The 24-carat, gold leaf covered, leather clutch exhibits intricate designs that are inspired by a fusion of arabesque patterns and Venetian palazzo ceilings, honouring two diverse worlds that for centuries have been interconnected through art and architecture. The limited-edition Middle East exclusive bag is crafted as a piece of high jewellery, rather than a handbag. As with every Dellaluna piece, the Dogaressa is hand-made by artisans and embossed with the brand’s signature Leone e Stella in 18 carat plated gold - a historical Palazzo Dellaluna symbol that represents good luck whilst acting as a guiding figure. The limited-edition piece also flaunts three sleek chains made using hand-moulded, 18 carat plated gold that allows the bag to be worn as an elegant bracelet, or over the shoulder - a feature that is unique to the Dogaressa. A Spring Jewellery Look from Charlotte Chesnais
98
Parisian jewellery label Charlotte Chesnais are celebrating their 5 year anniversary this year and launching a new collection for Resort 2021, introducing colour for the first time in their designs. The sculpted shapes and striking colors radiate a simple look with a twist of Parisian style. Not steering away from the brands effortlessly bold designs, the Colour Collection gives you a chance to incorporate colour and simplicity. “I also liked the idea of giving a new life to our existing items by adding colour to their structure. I have wanted to use colour as a texture for a while; it is a result of my obsession with 70's lacquered objects - so shiny and inimitable. I have updated existing favourite pieces from previous collections with colour; touches of black, beige, orange, baby pink. You will find some new styles as well, to sit alongside updated classics”-Charlotte Chesnais www.theciin.com

In the chaos of life today a home needs to be a place of refuge, a solitude for the homeowners to retreat to. Built for an Italian couple, the design pays homage both to the clients' Italian heritage and that of the Toronto residential building fabric, while ensuring a sensitivity towards wellbeing, mobility, and convenience. www.theciin.com

The design of the Pacific project is born from the homeowners’ values and traditions where the comforts of their past are now viscerally felt within their presentday lives. The vault, in its many permutations, is one of the most common archetypes of ancient Roman architecture, characterized by its powerful modulation of light and its sense of lightness. In adopting this typology into a domestic space, the architects evolved the vault from its primary form, puncturing, cutting, and peeling it into new geometries that help to distribute light and air into key locations, respond to program organization, demarcating each with a different atmosphere, and create a sectional continuity throughout the house. In carrying sacred content from the homeowner’s past into the present they are transported into another time and place, full of stories, meaning, and memories that become their refuge. The vault geometry extends the length of the lot, informing a relationship between the façade and the interior. From the exterior, the brick vault is a subtraction from the otherwise monolithic brick frontage. This monolithic façade is created through a focus on the rich materiality of the brick coursing, and the isolated dormer which mirrors the proportions of the neighboring house. The brickwork that covers the façade and wraps the
124
ceiling and walls of the carport plays into Toronto’s history of masonry detailing. The tradition of brick in Toronto’s residential fabric dates back to the 19th century when Toronto’s stock of Victorian houses was built. In these houses, ornamental detail presents itself in single isolated moments of brick coursing located above apertures, along with corners, and at cornices. The architects took this singular moment of ornamentation and blew it up. The front of the home is reduced to a monolithic façade – where single repetitive material ornamentation, an adaptation of the Flemishbond, becomes an even but textured brickfield placing emphasis on the vaulted profile. This field of patterning emphasizes a play of light and shadow and picks up on seasonal changes. In the summer, the protrusions texture the façade with stark shadows, and in the winter the texture transforms through bricks creating shelves for the snow to fall on. As a retired couple intending to age in place, it was essential that they had access to parking on site. Wanting to refrain from the suburban folly of a garagefronted street, the decision to create a carport shaped the formal organization of the entire project. The integrated carport carves the front façade, creating a processional entryway reminiscent of the portico; an architectural feature found in roman architecture which covers and extends from the entrance often as a vault or colonnade. Vaulted porches are also a prevalent form in Toronto’s Victorian housing stock. Toronto’s residential streets are often punctuated by front porches (rather than garages) to create a transitional space between the street and the home. In the case of Pacific Residence, the carved carport creates an inverted porch, which creates an introverted presence on the street. A lightwell that cuts through the height of the building is placed at the depth of the carport, washing the deep space with light, pulling visitors towards the entry. This armored space is turned inward and perceived as private, creating an intimate entry procession.
www.theciin.com
To emphasize the project’s geometric simplicity, all circulation, services, and entry conditions are tucked into a linear bar that runs adjacent to the vault. Upon entering the house, visitors begin in a compressed service ‘bar’, which then opens into the ground floor’s expansive and airy living spaces. Throughout the length of the ground floor, the barrel vault’s persistent geometry connects these living spaces, accentuating the client’s desire for connectivity in food preparation, eating, and socializing. While the barrel vault brings these spaces together, moments of articulation and relief are found through tangential peels and cuts in the vaulted ceiling. The vault remains intact in the dining room, is cut at the length of the kitchen, becomes intact again in the living room, and then unfolds and peels into the backyard. This spatially delineates connected spaces, while also providing natural light to flood into the deep and narrow lot. Situated in the middle of a long floorplan, the kitchen opens and is flooded with natural light from a skylight above. While the ground floor remains unimpeded and connected, the second floor is sliced into rooms connected by bridges. This allows for rooms to be stacked in a narrow lot with natural daylight reaching each room and the ground floor below. On this floor, the services of the laundry room, bathroom, and stairs are also tucked into the ‘bar’, while the bedroom, study, and master suite are stacked from the front to the back of the house. The slice between the bedroom and study allows both rooms to share natural daylight brought in from the lightwell and the façade’s dormer window. The master suite is lit from both the house’s back façade and the skylight above the kitchen.

Sportier look and greater individualisation for the CLS Sportier look and greater individualisation for the CLS New limited-edition model from Mercedes-AMG
126
www.theciin.com
The front end in particular, with new radiator grilles and bumpers, expresses the dynamism of the four-door coupé even more strongly. At the same time, the interior has been upgraded with additional leather and trim combinations as well as a new generation of steering wheel. A strictly limited special model of the Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 4MATIC+ forms the sporty-exclusive spearhead. Thanks to a comprehensive refresh last summer with updates to the driving assistance systems, the MBUX (Mercedes-Benz User Experience) multimedia system and ENERGIZING Comfort, the CLS was already up-to-date technologically. As a coupé, the CLS, together with all roadsters and cabriolets, belongs to the category of dream cars at Mercedes-Benz. To date, more than four million examples have been sold to customers all over the world, including more than 450,000 CLS models since the launch of the first generation in 2004. China was the largest sales market for the CLS Coupé in 2020, followed by South Korea, the USA and Germany. The reason most frequently cited by customers for buying the CLS is its design: Sportiness is the true luxury in this customer segment.
127
April, 2021
128 Now the CLS shows off an even sportier look.
Greater individualisation possible with designo
If the CLS is equipped with the AMG Line Exterior, it signals its sportiness even more clearly: AMG styling components are fitted in this version. These include an AMG-specific front apron with A-wing in black, a front splitter in silver chrome, sporty, distinctive air intakes with vertical bars and aerodynamically shaped flics in high-gloss black. Other features include AMG sill trim on the side and AMG spoiler lip on the boot lid. In combination with AMG Line Exterior, two new colours can be selected for the 20-inch, high-gloss AMG multi-spoke light-alloy wheel in bi-colour look: tremolite grey or high-gloss black. All models with AVANTGARDE Exterior or AMG Line Exterior receive a new radiator grille. Special features of this grille are the Mercedes-Benz pattern (a three-dimensional star pattern with chrome-gloss surfaces), a louvre in high-gloss black with chrome inlay and the integrated Mercedes star. The new paint colour for the CLS is spectral blue metallic. In addition to the more distinctive exterior, the interior has also been enhanced. Two new trim finishes, including for the centre console, are available in open-pore brown walnut and high-gloss grey wood. The range of leather seat upholstery has also been expanded: Neva grey/magma grey and sienna brown/black are the two new colour combinations here. As part of the update, the CLS receives a redesigned multifunction steering wheel in nappa leather. The spokes are finished in highgloss black with silver chrome edging, the paddle shifters in silver chrome. With the Driving Assistance Package (optional extra), the driver is supported by Active Distance Assist DISTRONIC and Active Steering Assist. Here, the steering wheel uses the capacitive principle to detect the driver's hands. There is a twozone sensor pad in the steering wheel rim. The sensors on the front and reverse sides of the rim register whether the driver's hands are on the wheel. No steering movement is now required to inform the assistance systems that the driver is in control. This enhances user-friendliness when driving in semi-automated mode.
The 250 experts at Mercedes-Benz designo in Sindelfingen can transform the CLS into a very personal one-off if desired. The selection has also been increased for these special options: new, for example, are the special lacquers jupiter red, cashmere white magno and emerald green. These are available for all equipment versions. The two-tone designo interior with exclusive nappa leather is available in five new combinations: classic red/black, saddle brown/black, tartufo brown/black, deep white/black and yacht blue/black.
Sharpened in many details: Mercedes-AMG CLS 53 4MATIC+ Mercedes-AMG has updated the sporty top model of the model series with numerous visual highlights and attractive equipment packages. The standard innovations on the CLS 53 4MATIC+ include the redesigned front end with the sporty AMG bumper in A-wing form with black flics and visible air curtains, as well as the AMG signature grille with vertical bars. The surrounds of the windscreen frames are made of polished aluminium or, in combination with the Night Package, in high-gloss black. The exterior mirrors are painted in the colour of the vehicle. Here, too, models with the AMG Night Package or AMG Exterior II Carbon Package are an exception: The mirrors there are finished in highgloss black or have a housing made of carbon fibre. MercedesAMG drivers also steer the CLS with the latest-generation steering wheel, here in nappa leather finish and with the familiar AMG steering wheel buttons with display. In terms of optional extras, two new packages allow the coupé to be even sportier: the AMG Night Package II, available in combination with the AMG Night Package, includes the radiator grille, Mercedes star at the rear and typography in darkened chrome. www.theciin.com
129
The AMG DYNAMIC PLUS Package enhances dynamics in several respects. The red-painted brake callipers with black AMG lettering add a visual highlight to the exterior. In the interior, the AMG Performance steering wheel in nappa leather/DINAMICA microfibre or alternatively in nappa leather rounds off the package with sporty elegance. Racetrack-fit performance with a sporty emphasis can be experienced in the additional "RACE" driving mode with the Drift mode. April, 2021
Where to next? Tenerife! Step beyond the tourist spots and you’ll discover an island of extraordinary beauty and diversity, with remote mountain-ridge villages, cultured port settlements and charming ancient towns. Suft at black-sand beaches, descend vertigo-inducing gorges and eat fresh fish.

Tenerife is a paradisic volcanic island, sculpted over time by several eruptions. It sits in the Atlantic Ocean just off the coast of North Africa and has a great mix of rugged terrain, a sub-tropical climate with temperatures averaging 20 degrees dramatic landscapes and the varied tropical landscape yields rewarding secrets beneath the eternal sunshine. Tenerife's two main cities are the capital of Santa Cruz and the former capital La Laguna. While they're less than an hour drive apart, the landscape is dramatically different; the south is desert-like and dry, while the north is very tropical and green. 80% of visitors flock to the south, where endless golden sandy beaches await and sun is guaranteed, but the north offers a wilder experience, with black volcanic-sand beaches, many of which are only accessible on foot. Take your pick.
THE THIRD HIGHEST VOLCANO IN THE WORLD Mount Teide, a volcano that last erupted in 1909, is the highest peak in Spain and the third largest volcanic structure in the world. At 3718m, you need to apply in advance for a free permit to hike to the summit, but the lower side of the volcano is accessible or there's a cable car to take you to the Rambleta station, less than 660 feet from the summit. On a clear day, you can see up to four other islands from there; Gran Canaria, La Palma, El Hierro and La Gomera. Declared a National Park in 1954, the volcano and the surrounding area were also made a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2007. Hike the dozens of trails through the arid, desert-like landscape where unforgiving environmental conditions mean 12 endemic species unique to the island, such as gorgeous alhelí flowers, flourish here. The fairy forest of Anaga Mountains is another area worth carrying hiking boots for, as well as for descending the Masca gorge for a unique view of the cliffs of Los Gigantes.

SOAK UP THE LOCAL CULTURE IN LA LAGUNA & LA OROTAVA La Laguna is a colonial town founded in the late 15th century and one of the island's main cultural hubs. Included in the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites since 1999, La Laguna is an elegant, colourful and predominantly low-rise town where the university is located. The main streets are pedestrianised which makes it easier to explore historic buildings such as the San Miguel chapel, the cathedral, the convent of Santa Catalina de la Siena and the Nava Palace. Interestingly, the city planning of La Laguna laid the foundations for many Latin America colonial cities which were modelled on it. As you approach La Orotava along the northern motorway, you will soon begin to glimpse its lovely church steeples as a sample of the wonders that await you upon arrival. The old town is quaint and welcoming, with its maze of cobbled streets. A tour around this Historic-Artistic Site leads you to places such as the La Concepción church, the Calvario chapel, the church of San Agustín, the estate of Liceo Taoro or the former San Benito Abad monastery. A great way of discovering the other side of La Orotava is by taking the Los Molinos route, which sets off from Villa de Arriba. The route takes you to the area's nine water mills that were built in the 17th and 18th century. Some still preserve the stone channels where the water used to flow. April, 2021
GET STUCK INTO LOCAL FOOD The past few years have seen a resurgence in Tenerife's cuisine with more and more restaurants in turning their back on tourist-catered food offerings in favour of traditional regional cuisine. When browsing menus look out for local vieja or cherne fish, spicy 'mojo picón' or 'mojo verde' sauce and 'papas negras arrugadas' (wrinkled black potatoes). For desserts, opt for sweetly spiced rice pudding-like frangollo or gofio mousse made with local flour. In terms of local produce, bananas are the quintessential fruit of the island - indeed, we've never tried better, while fresh avocados and papaya are equally gorgeous. Head to the farmers' market in Tegueste to pick up some supplies for a picnic on the beach.

EXPLORE THE UNDERWORLD Europe's largest lava cave is located in the district of Icod de los Vinos, a town famous for the "Drago Milenario", an ancient dragon tree rumoured to be between 1,000 and 3,000 years old. La Cueva del Viento meaning "cave of the wind" is an underground labyrinth of over 10 miles of passages with many yet to be discovered. Guided visits are available and tickets can be bought online. The south-west coast of the Island is one of the best places in Europe to see beautiful marine mammals in their natural environment. About 20 cetacean species have been observed in the waters of the Canary Islands. It is thanks to a year-long temperature climate, warm waters and the deep seafloors which are protected against the strength of the Atlantic ocean that the islands attract so many marine mammals. Bottlenose dolphins and Pilot whales live all year lonng in the waters between La Gomera and Tenerife. Depending on the season, many other whale and dolphin species travel close to the island. If you are lucky and join a great boat crew, you may have also the chance to spot big marine mammals such as Bryde’s whales, Fin whales or even a Blue Whale! An exceptional reason to go dolphin and whale watching in Tenerife any time of the year. April, 2021

Every dream you’ve had of a tropical paradise comes alive at Ozen Reserve Bolifushi in the Maldives. And a gorgeous floating breakfast overlooking the Indian Ocean is just one of them. Situated in a pristine lagoon in South Malé Atoll, Ozen Reserve Bolifushi is the uber lux private island resort. Lush vegetation surrounds the intricate island pathways and beaches. Palm trees sway gently in the warm island breeze and provide shade from the equatorial sunshine. The breakfast items are carefully placed on a giant floating basket with raised edges, which is very carefully set down on the corner of the pool and gently set afloat into the water, towards the edge of the infinity pool, and yes it is intelligently designed to stop itself. A testament to colonial architecture, Bahía del Duque in Tenerife, in the Canary Islands, is a cluster of impeccable villas. Modelled like a 19th-century Spanish colonial village, each pastel-pink and honey-toned building on the resort is said to represent an architectural landmark within Spanish territory. So sublimely luxurious, you needn’t step out of the resort into the “Island Of The Eternal Spring”. At a consistent 20ºC+, this UNESCO protected plot of forests, majestic cliffs and utopic beaches cries out for exploration. However, in-resort you can relax in the reading lounge or enjoy a plethora of high-adrenaline or family-friendly activities such as relaxing on Bahía del Duque’s very own yacht, Pámpano. If you fancy discovering the appeal the hotel holds for the stars, book into one of the 'Casas Ducales' on the Playa del Duque beach; these 'ducal houses' offer their own independent reception as well as additional facilities such as butler and concierge service, private patios and sun terraces. In these villas, the renowned interior-designer Pascua Ortega has reinvented the concept of luxury, combining top-of-the-range comfort with state-of-the-art technological facilities. The property is member of The Leading Hotels of the World, a collection of authentic and uncommon luxury hotels.

SPA The volcanic rock landscape of the island and the resort’s lush gardens provide a perfect setting for the elegant spa. Under Tenerife’s brilliant blue sky Bahía del Duque is an oasis of calm flanked by elegant palms on a sugar-white beach. Set in flower-scented gardens bordered by volcanic stone, there are 20 treatment rooms and five outdoor cabanas perfectly cooled by the breeze. A cascading waterfall beckons you on in to the thalassotherapy pool with circuit of underwater jets, massage beds, ambient lighting and Atlantic minerals, while alluring signature treatments include the aloe vera ritual that soothes and revives every inch of the body. Treatments in biological medicine, naturopathy and orthomolecular nutrition are also in practice at the spa through its new nutrition and dietetic assessment service.

CULINARY EXPERIENCE The resort offers an extraordinary variety of select cuisine in its eight restaurants and 13 lounges. Our recommendation: La Brasserie by Pierre Résimont. Known as the “corner of French cuisine” and led by chef Pierre Résimont, the double awarded with Michelin stars in his restaurant L’Eau-Vive in Belgium, offer a traditional French braserie menu, characterized by the use of local and seasonal products. For those looking for an authentic gastronomic experience, Nub is your place. Travel between two worlds through the personal culinary proposals of chefs Andrea Bernardi and Fernanda FuentesCárdenas. Nub, holder of a Michelin star, offers a wonderful mix of flavours, creations and ingredients that merge perfectly to make this gastronomic experience a sensory journey between Latin America and Europe.
WHAT TO DO Explore sea caves, remote villages and geraniumlinen footpaths in the less-discovered north; mountain moonscapes of bewildering beauty at the island’s volcanic heart; and stay down south for manicured sands with more fun-having facilities than is decent. Garachico (once prosperous until a flow of lava blocked its port in 1706) has cobbled streets and traditional hillside houses; the volcanic rock pools formed at the water’s edge make this pretty coastal village perfect for promenading along the palm-fringed pathways lining Tenerife’s rugged northern coast. To the East, Puerto de la Cruz is a lively resort town that brims with authentic Spanish charm and colourful Continental cultural. And the Costa Adeje, on Tenerife’s southern coast, is home to several Blue Flag beaches, with azure waters, gentle sea breezes and volcanic vistas. April, 2021
