Tell us about your education.

I went to post-secondary for Fitness and Health Promotion. The fitness industry is ever-changing and I take pride in keeping myself knowledgeable and updated with current research. With that being said, I take about 2-4 related certifications a year.

Where do you train?

I train at GoodLife Fitness.

How long have you been into fitness and training?

My fitness journey has been a long, and interesting one. I was a dancer until the age of 14, joined my first gym at 16, hired my first trainer at 18, and the rest is history. Originally, I had very poor habits and found myself pursuing fitness because I hated my body. My motivation was driven by a poor body image, which only enabled the unhealthy behaviors I had. Regardless of what my physical self-looked like, it was my mental wellbeing that suffered. Lots of reflection and mindfulness later, I began prioritizing what made me feel good, what made me feel strong, and what made me happy. My physique happened to change more than it ever had in the past, as did my self-acceptance.

And now I work to help others feel empowered and become their happiest, healthiest selves.

If you had to define all that you do in a title, what would you say?

My official title is “Personal Trainer” but I believe “Fitness Coach” is better suited to what I do. I like to encompass all aspects of wellbeing in my work with others. I aim to change my client’s relationship with fitness, food, and their own goals in a positive way. I work WITH my clients to address mental health, nutrition, stress management, as well as movement - because what my clients do inside the gym with me is just as important as the work they do on their own.

What is the difference between working with a personal trainer than exercising alone?

There are many differences in regards to working with a trainer as opposed to on your own but I would say the biggest differences are experience, knowledge, and accountability. It is hard to sort through all the myths and misconceptions regarding fitness/ nutrition that you can so easily find online. Everyday we see somebody promoting diet culture in one way or another, which can cloud our judgement and leave us believing in things that are quite frankly – wrong.

Working with a professional give you the best chance at avoiding this. Not to mention that learning how to move and how-to train is a SKILL that needs to be taught. In my experience, no one starts with perfect form and to have that second eye to coach you will increase results and decrease your risk of injury. When I say accountability, this is a massive mental aspect to

hiring a trainer. When you have an appointment with someone who is expecting you, it is much less likely that you will “fall of track”. The trainer’s job is to hold you accountable and to make sure that you’re using your time as effectively as possible to drive the best results.

How would you describe your philosophy about being fit and healthy?

Being fit and healthy has often been thought of something purely aesthetic. Six packs, toned legs, etc.

My belief is that being fit the mental as well as the physical. One without the other has consequences.

I believe that if you are doing your best to live your happiest, healthiest life – than that can take on whatever form it does. There is no one size fits all to fitness.

What are some tips you have for people looking to get into shape?

Aside from speaking with a professional to kickstart your journey, there are some major elements you can begin implementing immediately. Move more – walk, stretch, lift! Sitting is so dangerous for our health when we do it for the majority of our day. Drink more water! Often new clients tell me they constantly have headaches and low energy ... dehydration is often one of the first areas I address. Improve your nutrition education! Improve your nutrition education, as I mentioned, it is hard to determine fad from fact nowadays. Learn the basics of nutrition – digestion, macronutrients, micronutrients, etc. Understanding WHY and WHAT your body needs is such a valuable tool.

What mistakes do people make when working out?

The most common mistake I see is incorrect form, everyone’s body is different so when we try to mimic exercises without understanding how our own body works, we put ourselves in compromising positions that could result in injury. Often, I see people over train, not allowing their bodies to rest and doing more harm than good. On the opposite end of the spectrum I see people undertrain, never working out at an intensity that demands change. As simple as “move more” sounds, there are levels upon levels of complexity. *cue the personal trainer*

What’s your favorite quote or mantra you can’t live without?

Life doesn’t get easier, you just get better.

My dad told me this when I was really young, battling a lot of my mental health struggles. This has stuck with me forever, as a reminder that personal growth is so important.

What are some of your other hobbies?

Outside of the gym, I love to spend time with my loved ones. Family dinners, hiking with my best friend, sipping sangria on a patio on some beach.. That’s my favourite way to spend my free time. When not in a pandemic, I love to travel!

Who or what gives you the most inspiration?

Powerful, strong, independent women. Nothing inspires me more than seeing a strong woman unapologetically rise into success. Having struggled for a long time with my mental health and body image, I have always looked up to iconic, confident women.

Who are your fitness idols?

How has the fitness scene affected by the pandemic?

This varies but I often gravitate towards a high vegetable meal with protein. This could look like a home made burrito bowl, a salad, or a stir fry!

It was so interesting to observe my peers during the gym closures. Some used the time to bring their fitness to the next level, whereas others struggled to overcome certain mental barriers. And while there was no right way to handle a global pandemic, it definitely had affects on the fitness scene. As an industry, competitions are being cancelled, virtual classes are becoming more popular, and gyms tightened up on restrictions. It’s hard to say what will happen in the future but what I’ve observed is that people have had to shift their mindset to prioritize mental wellbeing more than they ever had before.

What important thing have you learnt during the pandemic?

Having a great support system is crucial – even as someone who teaches fitness, and worked out 5-7 times a week, walking over 10 thousand steps a day, I struggled. The closures caused everyone to feel isolated and alone. I hadn’t seen my family, I wasn’t helping people in the gym, and my friends and I could only see each other from a distance (and I’m a hugger). What got me through was knowing that I had people in my corner that despite not being able to see me, continued to reach out, and supported me in whatever I needed to do to be happy.

I love carbs so I tend to have a lot of them in the evening around my workouts! Often you’ll find me eating something very similar to my lunch, just with a serving of rice/ pasta!

Snacks or sweets: I am a big snacker – you’ll see me often eating home made oat protein bars, fruits, roasted beans!

Favorite beverage: I won’t lie – I’m a sucker for a sugar free energy drink.

Tell us about some of your achievements you are proud of?

I began training at the age of 18. By the time I was 20, I was promoted into management. I am proud of this. I take a lot of pride in my work and being able to help people. Not many people are able to say that their passion is also their career, and I hope that if people take anything from me it’s that your success is a direct result of the work that you do and that anything is possible with the right attitude and grit.

If people have 10 minutes a day, what can they do?

What’s your typical meal for…

Learn something new – give yourself 10 minutes a day to read/ watch/ listen. Personal development is so important in keeping yourself educated and your mind sharp. Be in a constant pursuit of personal growth.

I drink a half liter of water every morning before eating.

This helps dramatically with digestion, hydration, and alertness.

So where can everyone keep up with you to learn more?

First thing upon waking:

Morning: I am a big believer that you should at least enjoy what you’re eating so typically in the morning I will have a home made breakfast sandwich with whatever ingredients I feel like – typically turkey bacon, egg, and cheese!

JAEGER-LECOULTRE AND MR PORTER INTRODUCE THE MASTER ULTRA THIN KINGSMAN KNIFE WATCH

Jaeger-LeCoultre and MR PORTER are pleased to announce the launch of the Master Ultra Thin KINGSMAN Knife watch, a limited edition of 100 timepieces, specially adapted for The King’s Man, the upcoming Kingsman origins film directed by Matthew Vaughn.

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife watch will be offered exclusively on MR PORTER, as a key part of The King’s Man ‘costume to collection’, from July 20th to September 6th. After that date, the watch will also be available directly from Jaeger-LeCoultre online and in selected boutiques.

The newest film in the Kingsman series links past and present, going back 100 years to the origins of the Kingsman agency. So too has Jaeger-LeCoultre drawn upon its great historic mastery of ultra thin calibres to develop a new timepiece directly inspired by the celebrated 1907 ‘Couteau’ (couteau is French for knife) pocket watch.

The Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife watch is a refined dress watch that blends tradition and modernity in a manner perfectly suited to both The King’s Man and to contemporary style.

The aesthetic roots of the new watch are unmistakably those of Jaeger-LeCoultre’s traditional pocket watches: the very broad bezel slopes gently from the sapphire crystal to the edge of the case, creating a fine profile reminiscent

of a knife blade and the winding crown, protected by its triangular bow, is placed at 12 o’clock. However, these timeless and traditional elements are brought right up to date with subtly modern details: simple index hour markers keep the dial refined and clean, while a finely drawn ring is repeated as a circular highlight on the bezel.

Presented in a classically elegant 40mm size, the pink gold case is just 4.25mm thick. The ultra thin case houses Jaeger-LeCoultre’s celebrated hand-wound calibre 849. At just 1.85 millimetres thick, the movement underlines La Grande Maison’s century-old mastery of this demanding form of Haute Horlogerie: ultra thin movements require a perfect ratio between thinness and solidity, to ensure that components retain sufficient strength to ensure reliable timekeeping.

In tribute to the film’s narrative, the case-back of the Jaeger-LeCoultre Master Ultra Thin Kingsman Knife watch has been engraved with the Kingsman logo, as well as the legend “One of 100”, and is presented in a specially designed Kingsman sleevebox.

Inviting you backstage at their Autumn Winter 2020 show in Paris, dunhill announces its latest campaign, ‘The New Wave’, an exploration of new and established codes and the continued evolution of the House.

In a series of intimate reportage shots, the new campaign reflects the spirit of seminal London nightspot the Blitz Club, as seen through the lens of British photographer Homer Sykes at the start of the 1980s. Known for its clash of culture, class, and the burgeoning New Romantic scene, the Blitz Club personifies the renewed direction of the House and the multiplicity of the dunhill man.

Capturing the energy, detail and camaraderie of the dunhill AW20 show, models Aleksander, Lawrence, Daan and Paavo represent a more authentic depiction of young men. As cultivated over the past few seasons, the latest collection embraces both the old guard and the avant-garde. Luxurious leather outerwear is layered over tailoring that is both rigorous and sensuous. Pegged trousers, a further nod to the New Romantic scene, provide a more relaxed lower half.

“The man in this collection is a cross between the preppy and the new wave, the establishment and the antiestablishment – it is not about making purely singular characters. Instead, it is about taking all those elements and putting them together, reconstructing and recontextualising.”

Featuring prominently within the campaign are the House’s newest additions to footwear and leather goods. The Axis Runner combines a 1970s aesthetic with elevated detailing, whilst The Lock Bag takes inspiration from the classic British attaché case. Inherently dunhill in its DNA, this new icon is the manifestation of Creative Director Mark Weston’s vision, where House heritage and contemporary elegance is embraced at just the right tone.

Berluti’s Winter 2020 collection: a dialogue between tradition and change For Winter 2020, Berluti intensifies and abstracts its own heritage in a free-spirited proposal for our time. A dialogue between tradition and change, an exaggerated exchange between past and present, classic and contemporary, formal and sporty. The conclusion is eccentric: an electric reaction rooted in our moment in time when dress codes liquify and expressions amplify.

The discourse sets a free and light-hearted premise for the collection. As silhouettes become more casual, the established signatures of Berluti loosen up. The patina leather suit – a new trademark for the Maison – is softened and refined. In its ongoing translation from shoes into garments and bags, the colours of patina are introduced to sportier manifestations in shearling, puffer and bomber jackets. Multi-coloured patterns informed by the stained surfaces of the tables on which craftsmen hand-dye the patina shoe feature in silk shirts and pony skin outerwear. Expanding the territory, they are decolourised with a splash technique executed by hand.

The living space has been generously opened to the outside so that the kitchen can be extended under a new canopy on the rear facade facing south. This canopy has a dual function as it reduces solar gain in summer while allowing occupants to enjoy a covered space. The new openings in the existing walls allow natural light to also diffuse into the central space of the house. The fluidity of the ground floor plan is enhanced by this light as well as by the sculptural articulation of the staircase in the center of the residence.

The landscaping, in separate areas, offers owners the opportunity to enjoy the backyard while having a variety of experiences and atmospheres. An exterior sunken living room, covered with a retractable awning, allows the family to enjoy a warm space and offers a different perspective on the courtyard and on the many mature trees around the perimeter of the site.

Enhancement of original elements 124

The architect, Jad Salem, along with the owner, paid particular attention to ensuring that the transformation of the residence is respectful of its original character. Thus, each intervention has been done in such a way as to highlight certain details dating from the initial construction of the house, in 1947. The new arched openings follow the same configurations as the existing ones. The railing of the central staircase has been treated in a minimalist way in order to direct attention to the curves around the staircase as well as the rounded openings in the ceiling. The original wood floor, which incorporated careful details, has been maintained in some rooms and a precise arrangement of the colors of the new floor ensures a harmonization between the new and the existing finish.

The new cladding, on a portion of the rear facade, is soberly juxtaposed to the original stone of the house, using fine wooden elements laid vertically.

These same elements are used to serve as an openwork sidewall to offer privacy from neighbors while allowing light and vegetation to filter through.

The stones of the facade, which were replaced by the new sliding glass doors, were also kept so that they could be installed in a possible extension of the house. www.theciin.com

irst came Levante, presented in 2018, as the Granturismo philosophy in the body of an SUV with a potential speed of 302 kilometres an hour.

Now, Ghibli and Quattroporte will be available in the Trofeo version, the top of the Maserati range. The brand’s trident – performance, style and flawless handling – honed to perfection. They will boast the same distinguishing features, remaining true to their original identities – sedans according to Maserati – but in a superlative new expression. They are to the previous versions what Flash is to Barry Allen, what Batman is to Bruce Wayne or Superman to Clark Kent. No capes or lasers beaming from the headlights, however, they have the power to hit 326 kilometres an hour: the fastest factory-issued Maserati sedans ever. They represent the ultra-modern fulfilment of the brand’s racing promise, which in the 1960’s came up with the concept of a sporty luxury sedan model. Ghibli and Quattroporte Trofeo represent a further evolution of the sedan, destiny’s children sporting carbon-fibre inserts. And they are also immune to kryptonite.

Animated by a 580 horsepower V8 engine, they will speed along on 21-inch wheels, the largest sizes within this range.

The hood of the Ghibli, already considered one of the most beautiful sedans ever, will boast two supplementary air vents, which relieve the heat whilst bustling a gritty roar.

The lateral air vents, on the other hand, are bordered in red and wield the Trofeo name. The interiors are to be wrapped in full-grain Pieno Fiore natural leather and, just like the exteriors, they will boast 100% carbon-fibre inserts: Ghibli and Quattroporte in their Sunday best.

Even the infotainment is new: a processor that’s four times as powerful, screen resolution that’s ten times better and a memory with twice the capacity of the previous version.

This new system, featuring a high-resolution screen similar to a tablet, will render the user experience much more enjoyable, complete and customisable. The Italian flag will embellish the central pillar and, for their official launch, the Quattroporte model will be green, white Levante and red Ghibli. Because these superheroes are Made in Italy.

Furthermore, Levante Trofeo, has been restyled with new rear lights, a new infotainment system and new design features. The Trofeo collection is not just about innovation for Maserati; it is about surpassing preconceptions and expectations. The mosque has capacity for 30,000 worshippers in its grand white prayer hall, covered with red carpets and lit with simple chandeliers.

A complete success: The first Marc Cain digital Fashion Show The sky is the limit: This was the motto of Marc Cain’s first virtual Fashion Show, which took place yesterday, Wednesday 5th August 2020. The digital event experience was accompanied by a small streaming event in Berlin.

This time around, the new collections were premiered differently: Not as a classic Fashion Show during Berlin Fashion Week, but as a digital film streamed on YouTube Premiere. The light- flooded, ultra-modern Marc Cain headquarters at the Bodelshausen production site set the perfect architectural stage for a new form of fashion show experience.

Alongside the press and trade representatives, numerous customers also followed the live broadcast of the fashion film with great interest. All of them took an exclusive "seat" in the front row to immerse themselves in the unique fashion world of Marc Cain. For many well-known influencers the digital event experience was essential, and they posted their photos on Instagram accounts in their Marc Cain looks. Leonie Hanne, Sofie Valkiers and Viktoria Rader from vikyandthekid were very enthusiastic about the event.
